  • Pop goes the Beatdown – from Hogs Breath

Pass Interference expressed interest in another beatdown, and he said he wanted to build muscle. So, YHC planned a “pop up” beatdown with coupons and no running.
    Warm Up
SSH, Garth Brooks, Mountain Man Poopers, Flamingo stretch

    The Thang
Four rounds of 30 on / 30 off
Over head press; Bent over Row; Squats; and Coupon Dips.

During this YHC turned on some music, this was “My Soundtrack” playlist off Amazon Music, so it was a nice mixture of all the music played from all of the devices that YHC family shares. A very eclectic compilation of 90’s Pop, 2000’s Hard Rock, Christian Praise band music, Children’s songs, and some 80’s Pop music!
After the four iterations, we then mosey’d with our coupons to the old train station “Scoogin Corner” were we preformed a set of 11’s with Curls on one side, lunge walk through the station, and Derkins on the other side.
We ended with a new exercise of “Grip, Rip, and Roll” pulled form the exicon.
Of note this was the second beatdown for Murdock. I think we got a full fledge EH on this pax!

    Ended with COT and Coffeteria

  • Bob the Builder – from Hogs Breath

During Mardi Gras Break YHC took a trip to Akron Ohio and posted with the Copley AO. This beatdown was completely stolen from Akron F3.
After a quick warm up. Both pax grabbed a coupon from the trunk of Hogs Breath car, and a rock coupon. The move was simple, one pax would mosey with the coupon across the field, then sprint back to the staring line. While the other pax rested, upon the return of the sprinting pax, the second would begin their coupon mosey, drop off the coupon on the far side and sprint back.
In between the sets, each pax preformed 10 OH press, 10 squats, 10 chest presses.
Second round was the same; pax 1 coupon mosey to drop off the coupon, sprint back. Pax 2 would rinse and repeat.
15 OH press, 10 squats, 15 chest presses
Third round of coupon mosey and sprints.
20 OH press, 20 squats, 20 chest presses
All pax then returned the rock coupons and preformed 25 sets of each coupon exercise.

The morning mumblechatter from Pass Interference went something like “I don’t care what F3 Akron does, I hate sprinting with coupons!”
    Ended with COT and Coffeteria.

  • Sexual Healing to the milestones of Hogs Breath life! – from Hogs Breath

So the Superbowl must of set some pax back….. probably nursing there hangovers, and even though YHC valiantly tried to pre-blast and exclaim that this was the kickoff to his birthday (the following day) celebration, only two pax showed in the gloom.

    Warm Up:
Being that it was Valentine’s Day YHC began with a loving beatdown set to the classic romantic tune “Sexual Healing” by Marvin Gaye! The two pax faced each other in plank position and gazed into each other’s eyes, only to be interrupted each time Marvin sweetly crooned out “baby” and the pax would preform a Merkin. When the soothing sounds of “Sexual Healing” where whispered the pax would then preform a burpee. After 4:06, upon the songs conclusion, both pax coldly and tiredly looked at each other in the same manner that a couple looks upon each other right before they head into divorce court…..
    YHC then transitioned into the birthday story of YHC life, after-all this was the day before his 38 birthday;
Each milestone was associated with an exercise, then like the passing of the years, the pax took a lap around the circle sidewalk.
YHC was born in Ohio in 1984, so the pax performed 1 lap; 9 merkins; 8 squats; 4 v-ups.
    lap
The next milestone was at the age of 3 moving to upstate New York. So 3 Newtons Cradles.
    lap
At age 6 YHC moved to Detroit MI. So the corresponding exercise was 6 Derkins.
    lap
At age 12, there was a move back to Ohio. So 12 lunges, there was a reason that it was lunges, but in my advanced age, I’m having trouble remembering the reason….I hate lunges……
    lap
At 18 YHC joined the Navy. The first assignment was attending training to become an Interior Communication Electrician. So like any good Electrician, we avoided getting ‘shocked’ by ‘jumping’ out of the way with 18 SSH! Then YHC attending Special Warfare School, were many flutter kicks were preformed, so thus 18 flutter kicks!
    Lap
At 19, YHC became a father, and he set himself in that predicament by preforming a series of moves, sooooo this milestone exercise mimicked the event that allowed him to be a father; 19 monkey HUMPERS.
    Lap
Sadly, YHC first marriage ended in a divorce, so this round was a backwards sprint to the stage, much like being set back in life. But it’s okay, he turned himself around, so at the stage the pax turned around and sprinted towards a new…well a new exercise!
At 24 he met his ‘solid’ mate, so much like her being the ‘core strength’ of his life, the pax planked for 24 seconds.
At 27 he married this strong women, so to symbolize her strength the pax bear crawled around the shovel flag 3 times. No, its not because his M has a morning attitude worthy of a gumpy bear, parish that tought!
    For the next two milestone events, the births of his youngest daughters he asked his 3.0’s what their favorite exercises where;
At 30 YHC welcomed Addy, aka “Doctor Barbie” (at least in the FIA circles) and she gladly exclaimed “Squat Thrusts” so 30 squat thrusts it was!
At 33 YHC welcomed Lorelle, the third 3.0, and a true wild card. When YHC asked her what her favorite exercise was, she simply ran over to a brick in the flowerbed and began to pick up this coupon in a manner that resembled an upright row, so 33 coupon rows it was!
The last exercise, was the last day of being 37 years old, so AC/DC “Thunderstruck” was turned on, and both pax preformed 37 Burpee’s.
Ended with a COT and Coffeteria at Front Street Starbucks.

  • How 007 AO was born, and no it was not assassination!!!!! – from Pass Interference

To fully give credit Q was both Pass Interference and Hogs Breath

This BackBlast is like my wifes period (after 3 kids and a vasectomy) it’s better late than never! Trying to “accurately” record the short history of this newly minted AO.
A Balmy high 40ish, several pax made the trek down to Slidell AO. Unfortunately the railroad track directly in front of Heritage Park was being resurfaced, so YHC tried to send out a last min text and warn all pax that they would have to circumnavigate to the backside of Heritage, and still the Co-Q Pass Interfernce was nearly late while he adjusted his cerebral compass to find the shovel-flag.
Still this was the innagural Slidell AO flag planting, only 2+ years in the making!
    Warm Up
Hogs Breath lead pax in a rousing warm-up consisting of some Hairy Rockettes, Mountain Man Poopers, Self Love and some other stuff…..
    The Thang
Hogs Breath began by not being able to find his Deck o’ Death, so he improvised and made a quick adjustment using a gladware container and strips of paper. First pax would begin a sprint around the circle sidewalk, while the other pax would draw a slip of paper and preform said exercise. When pax one returned, all would take a break until the 90 second mark, then rinse lather and repeat.
The Q was then handed over to Pass Interfernce, who led all in a complete confidence of sprints from shovelflag to the auditorium stage, some sprints and some exercises where involved!
While during a mosey run, all pax began to think of Names, one of the CO-Q pointed out that Bayou Bonfouca, the waterway that Heritage Park rests against, was a filming location of a James Bond boat chase scene in “Live and Let Die”. The name “007” was thrown out and all pax stamped the idea. Thus 007 AO was christened!
    Ended with a COT.

  • Ten by Ten – from Waterpik

Warmup at the marsh then mosey to the trailhead. Stop at each block along a circuitous route for 10 reps of 10 exercises at each block. The exercises were merkins, sister mary Katherine’s (2 ct), Superman’s, crunchy frogs, leg raises, monkey humpers, hello dolly’s, smurf Jack’s.

  • Kill 2 Birds With 1 Backblast – from Steve

That’s right, YHC is incredibly lazy and, were it not for this group of upstanding men, I can only imagine how much lazier I might be. Not only is this a few days late, but we’re also gonna just roll Tuesday and Wednesday’s beatdowns into one BB.

First up, Granny’s, 3/1 – Mardi Gras Tuesday.

Russo was gonna throw us a party, but ended up unable to Q so YHC stepped in with a not-nearly-as-clever (and certainly not nearly as fun) beatdown. It was almost a solo outing (Shooter unfortunately experienced this the day before at the Marsh), had our new ultra runner not shown up. I had been scratching off names of all the out-of-town pax (no Waterpik, no Zoolander, no JV…), letting myself dream about potentially getting back to bed, when Cowbell rolled in. We wearily (and warily) eyed each other (“Are we really gonna do this?”) and then got down to it before either of us could back out. Usual warmorama, then into a tough ladder:

10 burpees, mosey up the stairs and back, then 10 burpees, 20 freak nasties, mosey up the stairs in back. You get the idea. The full ladder would look like:

    10 burpees
    20 freak nasties
    30 merkins
    40 mountain climbers
    50 big boys
    60 squats
    70 ssh’s
    80 IW’s
    90 Apollo Ohno’s
    100 LBCs

We only made it through 7 rounds because anything that consistently begins with 10 burpees is gonna eventually slow down. COT, nameorama, YHC prayed us out and we went on our way.

    Gipper, 3/2

Again, usual warmorama and then a quick set of 20 merkins, 20 squats, 20 LBCs. Lap around the train depot so everyone knew the route, then started a partner, cinderblock routine. P1 laps the depot while P2 starts on the following exercises:

    Squirrels (curls + squats)
    Chest presses
    Windshield Wipers
    Alpos
    Squat Thrusters
    Kettlebell swings

And then I believe it was nearing time, so we did another 20 merkins, 20 squats, 20 lbcs before returning the blocks and circling up for COT. Jose prayed us out, with gratefulness for this group and for these men. YHC seconds that – thanks for the opportunity to lead and get better with you gents.

  • Where ever there are two or more – from Mobydick

After a x20 series of stretches ssh arm circles self love windmills and a mosey around the roof the two of us Jose 10k and I did a host of exercises. All sorts of merkins x20 with a back peddle and karaoke trip around the roof . Then core work with 100 lbc. 100 leg lifts. And another trip around the roof only lunging and squats. There was more but I’m old and I forget. The A1c is alive and well.

  • 1 out of 2 ain’t that bad!! – from Shooter

With carnival week being full of festivities for some and vacations for others YHC picked up 2 Qs for the week.. Monday being a solo appearance, this Gloom started out with that same possibility as I arrived to the AO with no one in sight… And then there was lights, as the reliable Waterpik turned the corner to make sure today would not be another solo…
Began our chatter and catching up from his recent journey West.. Q was so excited to have his brother back I started the warmup without any count or directions just started SSH to an imaginary number… Then the REAL Cowbell showed up a few mins late but YHC will give credit as the previous day he was at the Gipper earlier than anyone else.. After completing some Grass grabbers, Imperial walkers and front and back and side to side leg swings..
PAX journeyed through Mandeville for a 30 min mosey and returned for some core LBCs, left elbow to right knee, right elbow to left knee..

Appreciate the post fellas till the Next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Challenge accepted and completed BBQ!! – from Shooter

It was nice to get back out in the Gloom with my brethren a little further toward the North.. Plan initially was to Q the Gipper this week, but with a change to YHC plans Bubba graciously stepped up and covered, so seeing the Q sheet open for the A1c I simply shifted days.. Knowing the location in Covington always has coupons, I planned the beatdown with that in mind… From past backblasts post I knew to grab 4 coupons and that should be good as my interest were to partner up and share the coupons for today’s challenge.. PAX quickly swelled to 6 after my arrival at the 2nd level with Moby, Sonny and Jose 10k awaiting. I intended on heading to the top, but the softies of Covington like to meet under the covered portion when there is a little sprinkle 🌧 🥶! Just kidding of course because if it’s not necessary to get wet in low 50 degree weather than why should we… As for the other challenge of getting this BB completed, top this BBQ 2 hours following the beatdown.. “Anything you can do, I can do better!” 😬

    Warmup
    20IC SSH, Cherry Pickers
    10IC Windmills, Grass grabbers
20IC Hillbillies, Imperial walkers, Butt kicks

P1 did called exercise while P2 Carioca down and back.
    100 Curls for the girls
P1 did called exercise while P2 Back pedaled up the incline ramp then sprinted down..

    Each group cycled through all.

Second round (cut short on time only completed 2 stations) however BBQ did grab a rep after it was called on the alternating block Merkin..
    25, 50 and 75

    25 Alternating block Merkins.
P1 called exercise while P2 Bear crawled 2 parking spaces, bunny hopped 2 parking spaces and crab walked 2 parking spaces. R/R

P1 called exercise while P2 Bunny hopped 4 parking spaces and Bear Crawled 4 parking spaces returned with a Mosey…

Ran short of time to cycle all groups through the 2nd round..

Count, announce, COT with Moby taking us out!!!

👏🏼👏🏼 To getting in the work gentlemen and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Runners, Ruckers with Cowbell ahead of schedule and somewhere in between Bushwacker!!! – from Shooter

Last 2 weeks YHC has decided to strap up with a Ruck sack instead of Mosey at the Scramble.. Although the distance is far less for logging RunCajunRun mileage the mumble chatter is far easier and the change of pace for the Q is welcomed at the present.. Acceleration is a key component of F3, whether in Faith, Fitness or Fellowship (preferably in all 3 categories) YHC has enjoyed the latter with Akbar and JV on the recent Rucks… Sharing the likes of history and traditions enjoyed by my fellow brethren is always interesting.

    Warmup
10IC Grass grabbers and Merkins along with 20IC Butt kicks, lmperial walkers and SSH..

    Thang
The traditional route for the runners adding a 2nd loop and the Ruckers 17 mins out and returning. Arrived back at the AO with some of the PAX taking in extra loops for mileage. Rounded up the PAX to finish with some core all 25IC Mountain climbers, Flutter kicks, LBCs, Mountain climbers and Hello Dollies. Offered up intentions for the family who unfortunately lost a child in Slidell yesterday. As well as prayed for PAX safe travels and those celebrating the carnival season. YHC also prayed for the PAX to spread Mercy to those in our communities, workplaces and also those that cross our paths daily, most importantly (personal experience) having Mercy in our own homes..

Appreciate such a great showing at the Scramble this Gloom from the PAX (9+Q) and welcome any takers for my lead at the A1c tomorrow..

    Till the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!
