  • 200th Beatdown in 2019!

21 brave PAX joined YHC on a chilly, windy Wednesday. The temp read 40 degrees F on the dashboard, but it felt colder because of the windchill. Needless to say, it was cold! Today was YHC’s 200th F3 beatdown in 2019. After 2018, YHC set his goal to post 200 times in 2019….. looking like YHC has some room to spare with couple more weeks left in 2019.

The PAX warmed up with a lap around the parking lot by the Audubon Clubhouse to the Bandstand. In front of the Bandstand, the PAX did the following warm-up exercises in cadence:

    SSHs x 20

    Imperial Walkers x 20

    Self Love x 10

    Windmills x 10

    Peter Parkers x 15

    MCs x 15

    Parker Peters x 15

The PAX then jogged through the Oak Alley towards the track, did 10 burpees on your own and moseyed back to the shelter.

To dedicate YHC’s 200th beatdown, YHC decided to do Dora 2, 2, 2. Partnered up. While one PAX was doing the exercises, the other PAX ran from the shelter through the Oak Alley to the track and back.

    200 – steps-up

    200 – declined shoulder taps

    200 – LBCs

Upon completion – El Wire gave the PAX a 20 seconds count. Picked a different partner and did another Dora 2, 2, 2. with the following exercises:

    200 – air squats

    200 – inclined merkins

    200 – hello dolly

    Round of Mary

The Pax stayed at the shelter and did the following exercises in cadence:

    Dying Cockroach x 15

    Flutterkicks x 20

    American Hammer x 15

Moseyed back to the flag with some COT. I am very grateful to be able to workout with the PAX on a regular basis. Never take it for granted. I set my goal in December 2018 that I will try my best to participate 200 F3 workouts in 2019. Blessed with minor injuries and I was still able to achieve this goal. This is only possible because of the PAX. I could never do this on my own. I ended up posting 206 times in 2019. Thank You PAX and I hope to do this for a very long time. Happy 2020!!! SYITG.

  • Bye Bye 2019

I saw the Q sheet was empty and I had a rare opportunity to post on a Tuesday – so I hustled over to Audubon Park and got ready for my Q.

6 HIM posted for a running based beatdown.

We ran to the top of WPM. At the top we did a basic warm up COP.

SSH, Round the clock lunges, Roaches, Round the Clock Merks.

    Ran down WPM.

Ran to base of Little WPM.

Ran to the top of Little WPM.

There we did Russian Twists while one guy went down and up the stairs. FLip FLop.

Then we ran down the Little WPM and back to WPM.

Ran to the top of WPM.

At the top we did a around the horn of core:

Flutter, Hello Dolly, LB Twist, Penguins, Russian Twists, Freddies and we finished with 10 hip dips each side.

    Ran back to the finish.

We started 3 min late due to me fussing with my watch. So we finished 3 min late.

Bad Moon was the fastest feet award.

We logged a solid 3.3 miles for the day – a 5k to finish off the year.

    Happy New Year.

    Accelerate those relationships!

  • Do I look like the kind of guy that can read a spreadsheet?

In my old age I find my bedtime has moved back dramatically. That being said I was well asleep when Yankee texted me at 9:03 alerting me to my Q at The Skinny in the morning. I awoke around 10 and glanced at the phone and rolled back to sleep while visions of beatdowns danced in my head.

Mosey to some grass in the park for warmups.

    • SSH X30
    • AC’s X10 forward and reverse
    • GG’s X20
    • PP X20
    • PP X20
    • MC X20

Line up and head to Row Bear station Indian style.

    • 4 Groups break up for burpees, plank jacks, squats and rows.
    • Burpees sets the pace. Rinse and repeat.

Line back up and head to grass up by the ole ginkgo tree. Circle up for some ring of fire merks. Do ten and person to your left starts at your 5, Rinse and repeat. Lots of whining here. Lots of kneeling.

Back to track. At first running man 5 burpees than run hard past 1 to next running man. 5 burpees and repeat till you reach the fountain.

Once at the fountian we roll right into incline merks, no break or counting to 20 until 6 rolls in. Once six arrived we started right leg step ups fast. then dips fast. then left leg step ups fast. Then dips fast. Tried to keep pace up to keep heart rates up.

Once done back to track quick for 2 line Indian run to the flag. Apparantly everyone was not down for some over the top cardio this morning. We survived a muntiny mid way back and modified with a “just get back to the flag” run. I circled back for 6 twice and racked up some pretty nice extra mileage doing so.

We all made it back roughly on time. Fitbit indicated 2.4 miles for the workout.

Count off, Name O Rama, Announcements, Intentions and SBOM.

Remember the Christmas party is Monday at Urban South. Potluck. We need food! HNJ Men’s Club is selling trees starting Friday. If you visit our website you can pre order. Ther was some other stuff mentioned, read the email.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Welcome Blue Suede from Omaha

Woke up with time to spare on this very humid 75 degree pre-Thanksgiving day. I posted full of gratitude for this group that gets me up and moving in the GLOOM. Blue Suede who is from Omaha but eats turkey in Mississippi drove an hour to post with us so that crazy dude woke up at 4am! Tclaps.

Ran to the big field across from the zoo for COP 1:

9 lives has a jacked up back so I took his Q last night. Started with SSH, Imp Squats, Plank Walk, Mtn Climbers, and Monkey Humpers x 20

Ran to the FLY. At the curbs we did Merks around the CLOCK – counterclockwise. x 10 Had to stop before the hill – the soupy gloom made me worried that I would lose the 6.

    Ran to the Hill

At the hill we did 20 shoulder taps, over hill 18 plank jacks, 16 taps, 14 jacks until the first PAX (BLUE SUEDE) finished. That dude can hustle.

Ran to the FLY beach and did a quick Q school.

Popalock did SSH, Tender did IMP walkers, Bacchus did Hillbillies, and False Start did arm circles. We let Seaman finish us off with backwards arm circles.

Ran to the Audubon statue. Did a loop, flutter kicks for the six, ran a second loop did plank jacks for the 6.

Moseyed to the field for some MARY. We did LOW COUNTRY CRAB, NOLAN RYANS, Plank Toe Taps and YTWs. Moseyed back to the FLAG. At the FLAG we did Monkey Humpers for a minute to finish off the beatdown!

COT: Prayed for something for which we are grateful. Each pax named something.

  • Terrain Race Motheusceship Q on the fly. Exit thru the gift shop.

Tanner graciously offered to Q the Terrain Race Saturday beatdown at City Park then graciously stayed in bed once I offered to Q. It was my Mothership/ Muscleship VQ.

7 men opted out of the terrain race and assembled near NOMA for a Saturday morning beatdown. Q eyed the group and deeming them runners all took off for the grass across from the Peristyle cause I am a Mothership man.

    Circled up Warmed up

Prolly did SSH, GG, PP, PP, MC, AC forward and reverse, Merks,

Decided to do some travelling BLIMPS with burpees starting at 10 and each following exercise increasing by 10. We meandered throughout City Park with random stops to do the L, I, M, P, S etc.

After the first set of lunges I was talking smack to Rudy and Douille whence I prompty tweaked my back which hurts to this day FYI.

Hit the baby foundry and did some excercises in 3 groups. Pullups, Decline Merks and Dips?

Made our way to the front of the Childrens Museum and did some peoples choice mary. I promised each PAX would get to pick ONE thing from the gift shop. Rudy threw a tantrum over a $65 stuffed unicorn so all bets were off. Nobody gets anything!

Rinsed and repeated at some point on the traveling blimps show. Just picked random spots to bang out another letter.

With 8 minutes left we made a quick lap around the pond to finish up in front of NOMA.

Pretty sure we finished up with a solid 3+ miles for the day.

COT. Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Delayed Mountain Time

Apologies for the delay but from way back on Friday at Wolfpack Mountain: Pax took off from the North end of Audubon Park at 0530 headed west along St Charles wrapping back around and ending up at the great circle courtyard for quick warmup:

    – Sidestradlehops; Self Love; Imperial Walkers; Peter Parkers

Straight away to the mountain-garage – Pax headed up the mountain after some BLIMPS-planation: 5-10-15-20-25 with alternating Bear Crawl and Backward Jog up the parking garage

    – Rinse and Repeat the rest of the way up to the top Some Mary and an extra set of Side Stradlehops during another amazing NOLA sunrise

Back down the stairs for a set of Dips on the benches Finally mosey back the circle…No not that circle the other circle…Mass confusion was averted as the flock made it back to the flag(less) pole in time for a final round of Bob Dole Tree Hugging and Smurf-Jacks (because why have thighs if you can’t make them burn).

Counted off 30 strong with 1 FNG: Welcome Bobby Walsh; Just passing through aptly named ‘Layover’ Wrapped up with a thoroughly beatdown ball-o-man and then off to Coffe-teria at PJs

Thanks for the great work gents!

  • Born in the Shadows

    9/16/19 – Mothership

Another Saturday morning, another Friday Night decision to choose the gloom over old habits.

A warm and inviting morning of about 40deg met the pax and everyone loved it. Greetings and disclaimer, mosey to the peristyle for warmups.

    WARMUP

Mix of arm circles, grass grabbers, squats, round robin merkins (all pax holds plank while each pumps out 10 merkins in succession, complete the circle).

    THE THANG

Mosey to the base of Roosevelt Mall. Using the concrete benches – 10 box jumps, run to next, 10 incline merkins, all the way up mall. Plank for 6 at the practice track.

Practice Track – Partner up. Catch me if you can, one lap.
Keep your partner – double up with another set of pax partners. (we had 10 total pax, evenly split to two lines of 5, do not recommend going over 5) The exercise is Bear Crawl Inch worm. Make two lines in plank position, hands lining up behind feet of pax in front of you.  Pax at rear bear crawls to front of line, holds plank, next pax at rear bear crawls to front, holds plank… keep going. Half the football field. Cause why not.

Count to 20 for a breather (quickly). Back to your original partner. 200 squats. Set of 20 while partner holds a tree (Al Gore).

Mosey, listen to the mumblechatter, recalibrate, make a democratic decision to take the long way. All will celebrate. Back to the great lawn.  Tclaps to Triple shift who led some mary while six was swept.

Great lawn for 11s.  LBCs and Bonnie blairs across the lawn. Finished exactly on time. Mosey to flag, circle up.

Thanks to whoever tracked, we ran 3.6 miles with the workout. Tclaps to all. I didn’t exactly intend on it being quite so long… oops. We did some serious work. So for those who completed all the above… Respect.

    THE NOTE

A special huge shout out to F3 Kansas City!

YHC was out in Kansas City for work this week and it’s worth mentioning how re-energizing it is to visit another outfit.  When I reached out, their lead, Blistex, went out of his way to organize with other pax.  Someone went out of their way to give me a ride from the hotel to beatdown, and some one else covered me for the ride back – every morning!  Just awesome that the beatdown means so much and the spirit of F3 would connect people to go so out of their way, for a stranger, to workout on a freezing cold morning, in the gloom. I mean how totally weird, and awesome is that?? I hope we NOLA Pax are representing ourselves and treating our visiting brothers even half as well.

Our F3 brothers founded their pax just in April of this year and they are already big enough to be holding steady AO’s 6 days a week.  Their push and their attitude was great to see and a solid reminder of just how needed, beneficial, and empowering F3 nation is. You’re not just showing up for yourself, even though that’s how it starts.  Once your life vest is on and you’re hooked, you’re showing up for the next man. For your neighbor. For some one who needs this just as much as you, but hasn’t started yet.

Speaking with one of the KC founders – Tapps (a great example of the F3 spirit) – he talked about how just like when you’re born in the hospital, you don’t get to chose your name, when you’re born in F3 you don’t get to chose your name.  You earn it by showing up and going through the pain of birth (or beatdown) and getting named by your new F3 family. So we are all born in the shadows, in the gloom. That’s the start of the new us, committed to being a little bit better, every day.

Thanks for the F3 community. Thanks for letting me lead. Thanks to the gloom.

  • Ice Cold Tabata

16 PAX joined in despite NOLA being 31 degrees. After a quick disclaimer we got right to it.
