  • So this is what Grandma’s House looks like at 6 a.m – from Jose10k

With Thanksgiving Break upon us, YHC has the opportunity to bump Russo off the top PaxMiner Q report. Feeling whelmed, underwhelmed, or is it overwhelmed with the energy to get up early this rainy morning to lead a group of HIMS. The perfect number showed up for what I had planned. With YHC still nursing a leg injury, running was not my top priority. Trying to rest it to join JV on our annual turkey trot, so with 4 people, the deck of death was dealt. Each HIM was assigned a suit, and we did a round robin deck of death. Russo=Spades, Hammer=clubs(puppy feet), Shooter=Hearts, and myself (diamonds). There were a plethora of exercises this morning.

El Guapo : Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas? Jefe : A what? El Guapo : A *plethora*. Jefe : Oh yes, you have a plethora. Well, you told me I have a plethora. And I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has *no idea* what it means to have a plethora.
Sorry y’all, my mind got distracted by itself. Somehow 8 count body builders and burpees were a top exercise, as was Shooter’s favorite: donkey kicks. Conversations were a plenty. From Van Halen to Van Hagar, from Bill Paxton vs. Bill Pullman. Russo’s disappointment of Desi Vega’s, and how many songs have cards in the title. Y’all think about that one. Last card finished us off at exactly 6. COT and Russo prayed us out. Coffee at Waterpiks this Thursday. Turkey trot at 8 am by the courthouse in downtown Covington. YHC has the Q at the Gipper tomorrow. Thank y’all for joining me this morning/reading this backblast. Sign up to Q, come and post, get out of bed and start the day off right. Headlock your friends, headlock strangers…IF I don’t see y’all before Thursday, happy Thanksgiving everyone.

  • That’s a whole Tabata bricks – from Russo

With attendance waning, Granny regular Steve potentially out with flu-like infirmities, and regular Marsh posters completing their early week duties, YHC assumed he might be flying sad clown solo this morning. Admittedly, I thought about turning over and sacking, but I’m glad my feet hit the floor, since a pax of 5 greeted Granny for some brick work.

    Warmup – 10x IC
    – Seal jacks (eventually)
    – Toe touches
    – Imperial walkers
    – Grass grabbers
    – High knees

    Thang
    Tabata:
    – 1 minute each with bricks, 20 seconds rest, with some moseying through the columns after each of the four rounds

    Round 1
    – 8 count body builders
    – Cherry pickers
    – Overhead claps
    – Nutcrackers
    – Hallelujah squats

    Round 2
    – Tricep extensions
    – Arm curls
    – Air presses
    – Squats
    – Arm circles
    – Milk maids

Rinse and repeat rounds 1 and 2 for 3 and 4.

COT, with NOR and prayer before heading back to start a Tuesday.

Pleasant surprise seeing you all this morning. Mumblechatter was high on the entertainment scale, as movie quotes ruled the day. SYITG.

  • Special guest appearance: DJ Turkey Trot aka. Supa Spider Man) – from Russo

50 degrees to start and throughout, which YHC greatly appreciates. We’re right in the Goldilocks spot with temps, where it’s not hot and humid, but not freezing where layers or bundles would be needed (for most).

Jose used the power of plastic spiders to get a hall pass to join Steve and YHC, and T claps to him for moseying 4 miles solo before we even started. King Turkey Trot is getting his time down and averaging under 10, which deserves a round of applause and makes YHC jealous.

    Warmup – 10x IC
    Seal jacks
    Toe touches
    High knees
    Arm circles
    Imperial walkers
    Grass grabbers

    Thang
Walls of Jericho (7 count of seven exercises 7 times around the Trailhead, stopping at benches, stairs, stage, garbage cans, path, etc.)

    – Freak Nastys
    – BSSs
    – Suicide squats
    – 8 count body builders
    – Monkey humpers
    – SMCs
    – Calf raises

    Mary
Crunchy frogs, Leg raises, Box cutters during one more lap.

COT, Name-o-Rama, and prayer wrapped us up. Good chatter today and even a little sweat (for YHC).

  • Welcome Back – from Russo

Temps in the upper 60s to begin. After a week of moving nothing but my legs at a slightly inclined grade (at the most) in nothing more than a slow hiking pace (otherwise also known as YHC’s mosey pace), YHC arrived at Granny’s to see it roped up in yellow caution tape like a crime scene. There were barricades up, so there must have been a heck of a celebration before we arrived. Steve and his bike were already there, ready to go after an absence that was either from recovery or vacation, or both. Things are returning to normal.

    Warmup (all 10x IC)
    – Toe touches
    – SSHs
    – Grass grabbers
    – Cherry pickers
    – Torso twists

    Thang

Good ol’ deck of death. Rep count and exercise were based on suit and number. Deck was split into four groups below.

Between groups we moseyed over to the bus stop, among the various columns, and to the stage.

    Hearts – freak nastys
    Diamonds – step ups
    Spades – durkins
    Clubs – BSSs

Hearts – shoulder tap plank jacks
    Diamonds – lunges (2 is 1)
    Spades – Monkey humpers
    Clubs – donkey kicks

    Hearts – ballerina squats
    Diamonds – SMCs
    Spades – imperial squat walkers
    Clubs – Star jumps

    Hearts – leg raises
    Diamonds – crunches
    Spades – Gas pumps
    Clubs – Crunchy frogs

COT, Name-o-Rama, and prayer to close.

Welcome relief to see Steve back, and I want to be able to say that about all of our brethren. Good mumble around horror movies, vacation spots, hiking, work, etc.

  • Saints hangover – from Russo

YHC was not moving swiftly to let his feet hit the floor this morning, but as always, glad they did, because we finally made it into only the upper 60s for a clown beatdown. There’s nothing sad when we have a break from stifling humidity and local sports teams were victorious.

    Thang

Good ol’ deck of death. Rep count and exercise were based on suit and number. Deck was split into four groups below.

Between groups YHC moseyed among the various columns like one of those obstacle course dogs. They do it better.

    Hearts – freak nastys
    Diamonds – step ups
    Spades – durkins
    Clubs – BSSs

Hearts – shoulder tap plank jacks
    Diamonds – lunges (2 is 1)
    Spades – Monkey humpers
    Clubs – donkey kicks

    Hearts – ballerina squats
    Diamonds – SMCs
    Spades – imperial squat walkers
    Clubs – Star jumps

    Hearts – leg raises
    Diamonds – V ups
    Spades – Gas pumps
    Clubs – Crunchy frogs

  • Granny’s 9-12-23 – from Russo

Plans for a twin/duo/partner workout were put on hold this morning, but Granny still had a visitor.

No real warmup to speak of (it was 74, we’re plenty warm), so YHC jumped into it with a slalom around the columns, then used the five benches to perform 10 reps at each bench of:

    Freak Nastys
    Durkins
    Step ups
    BSS
    Calf raises
    Crunches
    Urkins
    Crunchy frogs

Between each set of 5, YHC slalomed the columns for around 2.5 miles total.

Quick prayer to give thanks for the arrival of Cowbell’s sons, and thanks for continued blessings.

  • Tuesdays with Granny – from Chewy

YHC wanted to share with you about a fantastic morning with the Pax at the Mandeville Trailhead. The session was invigorating, starting with a 15-minute yoga session with a vinyasa flow. The energy remained high as they moved on to step-ups supersetted with incline push-ups and step-ups supersetted with shoulder taps.

The group’s dedication was truly inspiring as they tackled a series of stair climbs followed by squat jumps, starting from 11 reps and working their way down to 1 rep. A round of stop-motion lunges and single-leg Romanian deadlifts kept the momentum going, pushing their limits further.

The session concluded with gluteal bridges and side planks, leaving everyone feeling accomplished and motivated. The sense of community and shared determination among the PAC made this morning one to remember. Looking forward to more empowering sessions like these!

  • The Whipping Post – from Steve

That was the first song up on the playlist this Tuesday morning and it really hit the nail on the head. “Good lord I feel like I’m dying,” hasn’t rang more true than it did on this mild morning at Granny’s (82* with 90% humidity), with the cinderblocks awaiting us at the stage.

Now unlike Wacker, YHC enjoys the block beatdowns every now and then. I mean, sure, there’s never been a time when I’ve thought, “Hey, Murder Bunnies would be perfect this morning!” But a few curls, overhead presses, kb swings – why not?

YHC made a verbal commitment to Cowbell at caffeteria that this beatdown would have little to no running and that promise was (mostly) kept. We did run to the pilot house between sets, but the boot-legged Cowbell modified and simply meandered amongst the columns for his rest.

    The Circuit:

    Curls x 40
    Squat Thrusters x30
    Dead Lifts x20
    Merkins x 10
    Burpee Block Jump Overs x5

    Flutter Kicks (2:1) x40
    Shoulder Press x 30
    Bent Over Rows x20
    Merkins x 10
    Burpee Block Jump Overs x5

    Chest Press x40
    KB Swings x30
    Merkins x20
    Crunchy Frogs x10
    Burpee Block Jump Overs x5

    Block Windshield Wipers (2:1) x40
    Alt Block Merkins x30
    Goblet Squats x20
Elf on the Shelf x10 (5 ea. side)
    Burpee Block Jump Overs x5

The unofficial poll scrawled into the stage wall that revealed just how important a man’s height (among… *ahem*… other things) is to women was thankfully painted over months ago. And, there were no bat attacks today. So we were all able to leave the stage with our dignity somewhat in tact. As always, thanks for the opportunity – not just to lead – but simply to be out there pushing to be better with you guys.
