  • Granny Clips Coupons

This past weekend, YHC bumped into a friend, T shirt drenched with sweat, who said he had just come from a Cross fit workout. As my friend recounted the workout to me, I realized I could recycle at least part of this cool beatdown at Granny’s on Tuesday. Or, at least that was the idea. The cross fit workout consisted of a 1 mile run, and 10 sets of the following 3 exercises. 10 thrusters with a 75lb weight., 7 burpees, then 7 pull ups. WOW! That sounds brutal.

With ISI always in the back stiff, err… the…the back of the mind, YHC added an F3 twist and lots of ISI to the beatdown and here’s what it looked like. The PAX Circled up at shovel flag, firmly planted by Shooter in the gloomy soil at the Mandeville Trailhead. After a brief warmup, it was time for some circuit training. 15 sets of the following:

5 Thrusters with Coupon (cinder block), then

run up stairs, then back down and over to bike path for…

    a 15 yard bear crawl, then…

pop up and mosey over to wooden stage area for 3 box jumps, then mosey back to shovel flag for:

    1 minute plank.

rinse and repeat, starting w/ thrusters again.

Just barely got done with all 15 sets to complete ISI for the day. For those of you stiff bastards following along with ISI, we have one more day…

Thanks guys for following my lead and thanks to Shooter for praying us out!

  • Triple coupon Tuesday!!

YHC decided to return at grandmas with coupons in hand. Upon arrival, I noticed the likes of Steve and Bushwacker chattering it up. T 👏🏻 to Steve for making his return to the PAX after a scare at the Gnarly last Wednesday.. Knowing that Cowbell had missed Monday, YHC anticipated a late arrival by Cowbell as his strict discipline of getting in at least 3 beatdowns for the week crossed my thoughts, which were realized as he rolled in right on time to join the PAX. Today’s beatdown would pay tribute to the AO leader at GMs Chewy who likes to focus more on form and technique rather than speed and rep count.. So let’s get started!

    Warmup

10IC Good mornings, Toe Touches, Imperial Walkers.

20IC SSH, Mummy kicks and 1:30 of the daily ISI Plank hold..

    Thang

PAX had 4 stations 3 involving coupons.

Station 1: 30 pound Ruck plate with 50 ft of rope..

    Station 2: Tension band

Station 3: No coupon focus on Core.

    Station 4: Jump rope

PAX rotated through a series of various exercises controlled by the plate pull.

Each PAX completed each full cycle..

Plate pull 100 feet, curls on the tension band, donkey kickoffs for the core and jump rope.

R/R plate pull, alternating shoulder press on bands, 1:00 Plank hold and R/R jump rope.

R/R plate pull, Band Squats, 1:00 Plank hold, R/R jump rope.

R/R plate pull, tricep extensions on bands, mission impossible Plank hold with most holding between 35-45 sec finishing with chill-cut to round out the 1:00, R/R jump rope.

Eliminating the jump rope we paired up at the end of the corridor. P1 did seated band pulls/plate press while P2 sprinted the corridor completed 3 Burpees and sprinted back. R/R increase to 6 Burpees.. Being the competitive souls in which they are Bushwacker and Cowbell pushed each other to there limits, while Steve graciously modified his swiftness for the YHC as to not embarrass him at his own beatdown.. Flap jacked, so that each PAX cycled through both exercises of bands and plate press twice.

With 2 mins remaining we circled the flag to close with additional planking leaving those present with only 5 mins left for the ISI on the day..

Cowbell shared the news about the NOTC hosted event tomorrow in the city and we offered intentions for Grundy as Steve prayed us out..

Thank you gentlemen for the post and making me become a better version of myself…. Without the shared interest not sure it would be possible..

Appreciate the commitment and fellowship to start another Gloom with you!!

    Till the next Gloom 👊🏻💪🏻✌🏻!!!

  • Gainfully Employed (and Forgetful)

Being on my feet over at the salon every day is no easy task and, with the Gnarly Nutria only a day away, it seemed like a good idea to give the legs a rest today.  While that may sound like YHC actually had a plan, make no mistake – this was one of those mornings where you wake up with a funny feeling that you might be the Q and, once verified, that maybe you should’ve checked that out yesterday rather than the morning of.

But YHC was in luck – it was a light crowd (thanks Cowbell for posting), and he had the fan-favorite ISI challenge of the month to fall back on. 8 minutes of the beatdown already planned for me! Shouldn’t be too difficult to scrounge together another 37 minutes…

Warmorama: seal jacks, toe touches, arm circles, hillbillies, butt kicks, SSH, all x20 IC.

ISI Plank, Part 1: 3 mins.

Mosey over to the tunnel for a routine: x20 diamond merkins at the base of the tunnel, backpedal up to the top, x15 wide-armed merks, mosey back for x10 diamonds, and backpedal up for a final x5 wide-armed. Rinse and repeat, but with the following: Sister Mary K’s (IC) / monkey humpers (IC), big boy sit-ups / putins (IC).

ISI Plank, Part 2: 3 mins.

Mosey back to the trailhead for a quick round of partner suicides / squats. Then, just to make the final round of the ISI challenge a little more fun, over to the benches for a round of Freak Nasties, x20 IC.

Closed out with a Mary of flutters, Freddie’s, and Dolly’s, all Cowbell-style and all IC x20. COT with Cowbell praying us out before diving into the final two minutes of our ISI.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead and get my head back in the game!

  • Laundry list ✔️!!!

With a blast from the past planning to post this Gloom at Grandmothers House.. YHC arrived at grandmas excited about two things.. First to see Ringo who has been away for awhile taking care of his second home in Florida, serving the many patrons colored, flavored and topped pancakes as they visit the beaches on summer vacation.. If your down his way in Destin, stop on in at the “The Pancakery” and replenish those carbs you may have burned off at a recent F3 post.. Be careful though, as Dredd likes to say “You can’t out King your Queen.” Second was to complete a beatdown from a previous Q at the Gipper… With a few modifications in place the YHC planned the return of the WASHATERIA!! All though this wasn’t new to Bushwacker and Cowbell, the YHC should have given better instructions as Mr. Wacker decided to pullout his Grundyism along the way.. Halfway through as Cowbell and the Q seemed to be pulling away, Bushwacker after taking partner Ringo through some extra counts on a few of the reps decides to confirm the counts of the exercises.. Lagniappe always accepted, wether it be extra chocolate chips, Hershey drizzle or whip cream on those pancakes and Ringo gobbled up the extras like a true veteran..

Warmup consisted of all IC to 15 Toe Touches, Windmills, Mummy kicks and SSH…

    Thang

    Partnered up.

P1 does exercise P2 makes his way up the stairs around the flag pole and backdown halfway down the corridor relieving P1 and picking up the count..

    Werkins 50 (Hand release)

    American Hammers 100

    Step-ups 150

    Hip Thrust 200

    Air squats 250

    Toe Taps 250

Escalator 200 (20 Burpees, 30 Merkins, 40 Jump Squats, 50 Lunges and 60 Freak nasties)

Randy’s 150 (Reference Ralph’s brother in the Christmas story)

    Imperial Walkers 100

    Arm circles 50

With 7 mins to spare PAX took to their six for some Mary. 1 PAX would sprint the corridor and Mosey on the return while the rest of the PAX we’re completing Little Manny crunches, Wife Pleasers and Hello Dollies.. Each PAX got through 3 rounds in all to the 0600 hour of completion..

We circled up for the count off, announce and COT!!

Gave the honors to our veteran guest Ringo.. He graciously reminded us to be thankful for the many blessings we have already enjoyed and not necessarily the things we wish for…

I will include something Bushwacker shared at a previous post that has really struck the YHC..

“Go out and be KIND, not nice but KIND!”

That phrase is so intentional, and F3 starts with the intention to be ones better self, so to be better for those around us..

Appreciate the journey with you this Gloom and the Laundry is complete..

    Till the next Gloom 👍🏻👊🏻✌🏻!

  • Like a VQ

PAX arrived at Granny’s, weather warm, shovel flag limp in the breezeless gloom. Much talk of aching trapezius on account of @grundy’s Bearcrawlapalooza. Pik reminded The PAX of YHC’s much celebrated lack of attendance of late by suggesting that this was YHC’s VQ. You know, I’ve always thought that the subject of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” wasn’t really a virgin. I mean, if she was really a virgin, the song woulda just been called “Virgin”. But she wasn’t a virgin, she was just LIKE a virgin. It was kinda the same thing for my Q today.

    Warmateria

    • SSH x 25 IC
    • Seal Jacks x 20 IC
    • Imperial Walkers x 15 IC
    • ??? x 10 IC

    • Irkins x 15 IC
    • Box Jumps x 10
    • Inclined Shoulder Taps x 5 IC

Amphitheater stage for Jack Webbs, 1 to 4 ratio merkins to invisible arm presses

Next up was a failed attempt at a Movie Quote Plank/Merkin Wave. PAX circled up in plank position, went around circle, each PAX had to quote any line from Hunt for Red October, Ghostbusters, Tombstone, Goodfellas, or Big Lebowski. Cowbell has not seen any movies, ever, so the instructions were modified for him. He just had to say any complete sentence. Punishment was 5 merkins. Let’s just say this din’t work too well and leave it at that. YHC was just trying to inject a little fun, but these men are all business. Winner goes to Zoolander (or was it Waterpik??) with: “Ghostbustas, whaddaya want?!?”

Back to amphitheater for a quick series of 6’s: 1 box jump on wooden platform, down the “hill” hop up on stage and 5 merks, etc etc.

Back to flag for more than 7 minutes of mary:

    • LBC x 30 IC
    • 5 burpees (PAX experienced shock and awe.)
    • Crunchy Frogs x 20 IC
    • Freddie Mercury x 15 IC
    • 5 burpees (More shock and awe. At this point, someone shoulda said “This aggression will not stand, man.” Missed opportunity men, missed opportunity.)
    • Fondas each leg x 20 IC (with the pulse)
    • Nolan Ryan’s each side x 10 IC

    Countateria, Prayerateria

  • Make Grandmothers Great Again

Without Coconuts or Ringo to provide the kind of steady care that Granny needs, she has been on her last gasps for a few months now.  We won’t go too far with the dying grandmother imagery (because that’s just tasteless), but let’s just say it’s been pretty bad here on Tuesday mornings.  Four men, however, posted on this particularly gloomy morning to provide a little resuscitation.  (Yes, this included Ei on his second consecutive post and third post of the month – don’t worry, Ei, no one’s keeping track.)  And, with the promise of Chewy returning from his triathlon and Cowbell firmly locked in, things should hopefully be looking up this summer for our dear Granny.

So the intent of today’s workout was not to… take it easy, per se… but after Shooter’s brutal whipping yesterday at the Marsh, a lighter load might not be such a bad thing.  So we started with…

Warmorama: Abe Vigodas x10 IC, good mornings x10 IC, arm circles… at this point Ei interrupted to note that this was actually exactly how Shooter began yesterday’s beatdown.

    Exactly?

Oh well. On to reverse arm circles x20 IC, seal jacks x20 IC, and we’re off on a mosey to the tunnel.

    The Thang:

First up, a set of 11’s:  starting at the base of the tunnel with x1 burpee, backpedal up the largest hill in Mandeville and, with no Wacker in sight to complain, perform Sister Mary K’s x10 IC.  With such a light crowd we did the 11’s together, and there was more chatter about The Dawn Wall (where we discovered that Cowbell was also a huge fan and had read the book), until the lack of moving air and burpees finally set in.

Mosey back toward the trailhead with a quick stop at the benches for Freak Nasties, x10 IC.

Onward, with Cowbell showing off his athleticism with a few cow-gongs, and then we were at the amphitheater stage for some Rochamburpees.  Partners were Zoo and Ei, Cowbell and YHC.  Chillcut plank, rock-paper-scissors, winner takes the merkins and loser takes the burpees.  Count starts at 1 and play was up to 10.  Losing in the beginning is pretty inconsequential, but a loss on the final two is just brutal.  YHC was not sure what was going on with Zoo and Ei, as it looked like Ei was just laying on the ground watching Zoo do a bunch of burpees. Maybe he’s just that good at rock-paper-scissors?

Finally, back at the flag for a simple Mary of flutter kicks, x40 IC.

COT and Zoo prayed us out.  Thank you guys for posting in this ideal weather, and giving me the opportunity to lead.  SYITG.

  • Granny’s House: Into the Multiverse

It was as if the LIGO super collider had been activated and, through some rip in the space time continuum, produced three Q’s instead of the usual one for Tuesday’s beatdown.  Either that or no one signed up to Q Granny and we did a Round Robin.   Dimensional warping or no, though, the varied leadership produced a worthy beatdown.  Here’s the gist:

Warmorama (Steve): cherry pickers, arm circles (forward and back), imperial walkers, SSHs, high knees.  All x20 IC.

    The Thang:

Part 1: (Steve) Over to the marsh for an AMRAP set of 5 pull-ups, 10 merkins, and 15 squats.  With a very-probable Murph coming up for Memorial Day (mark your calendar, gents), it seemed a good idea to start getting some reps in.  PAX did 50 pull-ups, 100 merkins, and 150 squats.

Part 2: (Zoolander) Back to Granny’s for some corridor action.   Since many of us were denied the pleasure of finishing the Zoorich Classic and thus denied the broad jump burpee finale, Zoo decided we should get another chance and this time he doubled down on the pain.  PAX would broad jump burpee to the first column, then bear crawl back to start, broad jump burpee to the second column, bear crawl back, and so on.  After a few of these excruciating suicides, we partnered up for…

Part 3: (Zoolander, with a suggestion from Cowbell) Modified BLIMPS: Partner 1 begins with the burpees, while partner 2 runs the corridor, up and down the stairs and back to relieve P1.  With time constraints, we nixed the cumulative count and simply each did one round of the following: burpees, lunges, imperial walkers, merkins, plank jacks, squats.

Mary: (Shooter) Shooter, fresh off a trip to Grand Isle which found him… on the opposite end of rested, continued the pain with a round of crunchy frogs, LBC’s, wife pleasers, and Freddie Mercs, all around 20x IC.

COT and Shooter prayed us out.  Thanks to the PAX for posting and leading – it was brutal and, as always, somehow fun. 👊

  • Dropping Like Flies

Small crew at Granny’s House this morning.  With Coconuts on IR, Ringo beachside until the fall, Bushwacker taking on a Spring Break adventure (or at least attempting to), and Chewy… wait, where has Chewy been? … Well, anyway, it was up to Shooter, Pik and YHC to hold down the fort.  And Pik, relieved of carpool duty this morning, pulled a Shooter and ran to the AO, so his warm up was accounted for.  But there’s a format to this thing and by golly we’re sticking to it.  Soooo…

Warmorama: Arm circles (forward & back), SSH, toe touches, IW’s, seal jacks, and butt kicks, all at or around 20x IC.

    The Thang:

Mosey to the tunnel but, en route and surrounded by the darkness of Granny’s woods and a few lone fireflies, YHC decided to stop for an impromptu minute-and-a-half plank.  This hopefully gave us some time to take in our quiet surroundings, think about the day to come, and contemplate just how insane that running crew would find us if they happened upon us huddled on the pavement in the middle of the pitch black woods.  But alas, a minute and a half passes and not a soul in sight.

Onward to the tunnel, and once at the base, we started a Burpback Mountain (one pair running backwards up the ramp while the other starts the burpee count), up to a cumulative x60 burpees.

Having got what we came for, we head back through the woods to the bus stop.  Is this even a bus stop?  I’ve never actually caught a bus at this location, and I live on this street.  Either way, it’s been money well spent for our crew, and we stop for some derkins, step ups, hip slappers (legs up on the benches), Bulgarians, jump overs, and freak nasties.  All about 15x IC.

Next up, an AMRAP routine at one end of the corridor: merkins x5, squats x10, wide-armed merkins x15, LBC’s x20, then run the corridor, up the stairs and back down, sprint 100% to the start to rinse and repeat.  After YHC’s arms couldn’t muster another round of wide-armed merks, I called it and we moved on to a true 6-minute Mary.

It must’ve been a while since YHC has done a full 6 minutes of Mary because this one seemed to last an eternity.  PAX knocked out crunchy frogs, Putins, flutter kicks, leg raises, 100’s, and LBC’s (all around x15-20 IC) before calling it for the COT, where we discussed Wacker’s status as the CSAUP king and then Pik prayed us out. Thank you men for the post, the push, the lead – nothing beats starting the day with guys like you two.

  • Grandma says come as you are, slippers and and all!!

With aching legs still lingering from Ragnar YHC planned on an upper body tear down of sorts.. Arriving to the sites of 1 fellow brethren being Zoolander illuminating the inside of his vehicle secretly watching video of Bushwacker closing out our Ragnar event in his loaned out kilt.. No worries Zoolander the representation was successful, as well as welcomed by all.. However, there was an exception of an ole timer of sorts wearing one and coming over prompted by Ocho to remind Wacker simply that “His kilt was not as real as his own..” Zoolander being the trendsetter proved consistent in posting with his slippers.. Although some may have put limits to what can be done with those slippers there was no modification on this Gloom..

    Warmup

All IC 15 SSH, Toe Touches, Windmills, Butt kicks, Arm circles and wrapped up with a recently learned favorite Donkey kickoffs. Q was a little aggressive wanting to complete 5 rounds increasing the counts by 5 with equal hold times.. Had to modify at 20 (YHC was gassed)..

    Thang

Moseyed over to the Marsh to utilize the play ground. 3,6,9 Pull-ups, Merkins and Jump Squats.. R/R (5).

Moseyed back to the Trailhead where we completed 50, 100, 150, 200 cumulative. Burpees, Merkins, Squats and Plank Jacks.. One completed exercise while the other moseyed the corridor to the steps returning with sprints picking up count..

Finished with Plank holds, little MANNY crunches 20 IC, Freddie Mercury’s 20 IC and Hello Dollies 20 IC..

Appreciate the post Zoolander and you following my lead!!

    YHC prayed us out!!

    Till the next Gloom 👊🏻👍🏻✌🏻!!
