  • Angie’s List will check you for Ticks – from Sandbar

YHC has been in a constructive state of mind as of late and bricks seemed to be just the thing. Bonus is having my 2.0s leave the the comfort of the AC for 10 minutes to load my truck the night before.

Warmup – 10 grass grabbers IC. That’s it.

Mosey to the truck to pickup bricks. Mosey with the bricks to the levee.

Recent rain had kept the levee board from mowing, or the inspection guy has been on vacation. Grass was high and wet. Much grousing among the PAX re: snakes, rats and ticks. Angie’s List was particularly interested in the ticks and where they might end up.

We did 7’s. Brickbys at the bottom and squat thrusters at the top. Each PAX had to blaze a trail through the tall grass to the top of the levee and back down and apparently stuck to their trail after it was made. When we finished, there were these neat lines up and down the levee like a crop circle bar code. Well done gentlemen!

Mosey with the bricks back to the zoo. Pair up for Dora – 100 merkins, 200 floyd maywethers (with bricks), 300 LBCs (with bricks).

After, we had a few minutes left for people’s chair wonderbras and dodo birds on the wall of the zoo, with the bricks.

Mosey back to the flag for COT.

  • Better Late Than Never – from King Kong

I Q’ed almost a month ago and was too lazy to write a backblast. On June 26, I decided to write this…..

We moseyed behind Tulane Gibson Hall and did some warm-ups. Then moseyed to PJs under the wind tunnel with more warm-ups. Then arrived to Tulane Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, which is named after El Wire’s grandfather.

Here we did Dora 1, 2, 3. While one partner ran a loop around the parking lot, the other partner was doing 100 step ups, 200 shoulder taps, and 300 American Hammers. Flap-jack until the exercises were completed.

After Dora, we ran to the baby Loyola garage. At the first ramp, we bear crawled to the next level. At the second ramp, we lunge walked to the next level. At the third ramp, we bear crawled backwards to the next level. Once we got to the top, we Native American ran down to the base of the mountain.

We then moseyed to the Palm Court to finish it out with a round of Mary’s with some good form merkins.

Back to the flag with COT.

  • Road Trip – from Mahatma

The decision was made the evening before while sitting on the porch checking out the Q Sheet……no commitment for the birdcage so why not. YHC new the trek would require some planning: 1. Rise 15 minutes early 2. Pack a snack as its a long drive 3. Route around road construction 4. Don’t suck bring the beatdown.
Well if it wasn’t for luck in crossing King Kong’s path YHC wouldn’t have had a shot at #4…..it was God’s plan!
Arrive exactly at 5:30 – YHC busted out with “boom” box ready to rock…..only to find a crowd of 12-15 pax standing around. Quick disclaimer and we were off to the lighted alley you’d expect to find in Audubon (Metry ain’t got such nice things).
    Music On!
Quick Warm up of AbVagodas, Mnt Man Poopers, Good Mornings, SSH, and Side Lunges

    Work 1
    1771
Line Up on Light Pole 1, Speaker at Light Pole 2, transition at Light Pole 3
For 1771 – each end always adds to 8 – flip flop exercise at either end V-Ups and Jump Squats
2 Merkins in the middle in one direction and 2 Burpees in the middle coming back
When finished circle up for Mary – Sandbar lead us in LBCs
    Work2
Le’ 14 (I honestly think there were some chuckles as to the idea of how easy this was going to be).
13 double under and 1 merkin
12 double under and 2 merkins
    so on…….
YHC has never been able to go past 8 without a break and today was no different. All Pax stood to recover for 1m and 15sec
    Restart
7 double under and 7 merkins
    so on…..
YHC made a mental strain error at 4 as we continued to 10 double under then 10 merkins at this point YHC was modifying merkins from his knees.
We completed through 1 DU and 13 Merkins –

    Work 3
    In The Air Tonight
Hold plank throughout the song – merkins during the best part YHC counted out 20

    Work 4
    AC/DC Thunderstruck
1 Burpee everytime the title was said we counted somewhere between 30-32 – it appeared some of the pax hated the music as much as the burpees

    Warm Down with Mary
X Factor – Gas Pumpers – WWII SitUps

COT – welcome 2 new Pax – “Higgins” and “Royal w/Cheese”. No doubt Peaches was probably correct more “creative” names may have had been bestowed with the help of
    Angie’s List!

All said it was good to see “most” of the pax…..lol just kidding. I can honestly say the “uptowners” do a great job showing up and continuing to EH. Solid!

    COT
-Author BJ Fogg (Tiny Habits) says we can transform ourselves via the formation and deconstruction of good and bad habits in our lives. I heard an interview with him where he says the most powerful habit anyone can pick up is to simply say the phrase “It’s going to be a great day” upon waking up each morning. I’m going to try it and encourage the HIMs of F3 to do so as well.

  • FORTY FOUR – from King Kong

April 26, 2022 is my 44th birthday. Since my birthday falls on a Tuesday this year (that’s my M’s workout day), I signed up to Q The Skinny months ago. I dedicated this beatdown with 44 reps.

We did Dora 44. Partnered up. While one partner ran to the stop sign and back, the other was doing the following exercises:

    44 x Hurpees

44 x Shoulder taps and toe taps (4 is 1)

Moseyed back to the flag for COT.

I look forward every morning in the gloom with the PAX. I love to surround myself with leaders in our community, and this is why I bought into F3. I am always grateful to have the mental and physical strength to workout on a regular basis. I hope to lead many more birthday beatdowns in the future. SYITG.

  • Extra Skinny – from Tinkles

Keeping the skinny fresh isn’t easy. The pax seemed up for minor wrinkle so I went for it. The pace was a bit quicker and the Indian lines were never even but in the end it was a good workout.

Warm up: SSH, Arm circles forward and back, Grass grabbers.

Indian run to the bridge with an ab break for the 6 to catch up. Jog sprint alternating to the U drive in front of Tulane.

Partner up for partner Dora. 100 burpees, 200 Floyd Mayweathers, 300 squats. Called early for time.

Alternate forward and backward run to grassy knoll for some more Mary.

3/4 mile Indian Run back to the flag.

Count off, nameorama, intentions. Thanks to Landing Strip for picking up the next Skinny Q. Sorry if you posted and I didn’t record you. If you read this and let me know, I’ll buy you a beer!

  • Meh – from Tinkles

It started out well, got bogged down in the middle, and finished ok. I blame the train and the wind but really was probably poor directions for the modified 11’s at the levee. It’s too complicated to explain here which means it probably won’t work in the gloom! If you got it, you had a solid workout. If you didn’t, you got some extra ab work in. Better luck next time!

  • Please no more mileage – Day 2 of No Run Cajun Run – from Reluctant Yankee

A pretty warm day. Beautiful sunrise after the beatdown.
I had the Ash Wednesday Q.
Pleasantly surprised to see our team effort EH of Cherry Koch aka Chicken Hawk – make it to his first beatdown. Welcome to NOLA!
Warm Up COP – SSH, Imp Walker Squats, Merks, Dying Roaches
Willie had a mid-workout King Cake induced MOOP – so I modified for a second to an exercise that would keep us in the area.
Ran the OAK ALLEY with a BLIMPS by the bandstand.
Luckily Willie (who used the women’s room!) returned quickly with both socks (right JV) and we only had 5 burpees and one lap.
    Ran to the Labyrinth
    In the maze we did:
x 20, step ups Right, Dips, Step ups Left, Bench supported wife pleasers (plus whatever it was that Angie did – he doesn’t follow directions well) x decline merks, Bulgarian split left, shoulder taps, Bulgarian split right
Quick Mary with Freddies, Ukraine twist, LBC, LBT, and LBO L/R (little baby obliques)

Ran back to Shelter – shout out the Tulane frat hazing ritual – all the guys were at it working hard on ASH Wednesday

At the shelter we repeated the same cycle of the Labyrinth. x 16
Then we started the cycle again but just did step ups and dips x 12 but then it was time

At the flag we did left arm and right arm plank.

Prayed for Ukraine – prayed to better our selves with some real intent during Lent.

  • Tit Rex Run – from Tinkles

6 Pax shook off their Thoth Sunday hangover to get a glimpse of Tuesday’s Rex Run course. It will be a technical layout that will require you to run counter clockwise for 1.8 miles. Get ready! Other than that we did some warm ups, upper body work, and some ab work. Got over 3 miles in so a good way to finish up Run Cajun Run. Be safe finishing up Mardi Gras.

  • WAIT…The Mountain Is The Other Way! – from Fast Tax

It was a brisk morning at Wolfpack Mountain. As YHC walked up to the circle, it was apparent that many of the PAX assembled were stretching out for an anticipated run to the Mountain…little did they know that was not to occur. As the clock ticked toward 5:30 we were joined by 2 FNG’s and welcomed two PAX from out of state: Roadhouse (F3 Omaha) and Chazz (F3 Naperville).

After disclaimer, we moseyed off into the park, confusion/consternation evident on the face of some of the PAX as the Q clearly was going the wrong way…the mountain was the other way. I could almost hear the thoughts emanating from those in the back, “does he know this is WPM? Should we tell him we usually head the other way?” Nope, not today.
We moseyed all of about 25 yards and circled up for warmups, which began with the ordinary and then a couple of more creative items thrown in: Abe Vigodas, SSH, Nancy Kerrigans, Hairy Rockettes.

Warmups completed, we moseyed through the park until YHC found 3 trees suitable for the next event – Bearmuda Triangle. It turns out the event was aptly named since we mysteriously lost a couple of PAX along the way…
Three trees, ~30yds apart in shape of a triangle. PAX performs one burpee at first tree and bear crawls to 2nd tree, 2 burpees and bear crawls to 3rd tree, 3 burpees and bear crawl back to 1st marker. Rinse and Repeat except 3,6,9 Crab Merkins (which were apparently new to Uptown). Rinse and repeat 9,12,15 Burpees. Add in navigating through the dog crap…Priceless.

Captain Thor followed, a 1:4 ratio of BBS to American Hammer, performed OYO, increasing by 1:4 each rep, 10 reps. For those who like to avoid math, the total effort was 55 BBS and 220 Amer Hammers.

Still not facing a mutiny from the dirty hands and lack of running, YHC called out the next exercise, Welsh Dragons.
While remaining in plank position, PAX bear crawls forward 5 yds, does 1 merkin, 1 plank jack, and tap the BACK of each shoulder 1 time. Repeat adding 1 rep to each exercise each 5 yds – bear crawl forward 5 yds, do 2 merkins, 2 plank jacks, 2 sets of back of shoulder taps… etc. We continued until we got to 10 reps each (50 yds), holding plank for rest of PAX to finish.

With time to spare, YHC thought Indian Crab Walk, sure, why not…

We wrapped up the day’s events circled up around the fountain for tricep dips and the manatee, an over-the-back shoulder-leg stretchy thing starting from the superman position. Yes, it looks as funny as it sounds.

As 6:15 came upon us, we headed back to the virtual flag for COT, welcoming our new FNGs, Prairie Dog and Carpetbagger. Followed by Coffeteria at PJs.
PS, It wasn’t until later that YHC realized (or was reminded) that PAX were likely hoping to get a lot of running in for RunCajunRun…Sorry.

Thanks for the fellowship and the chance to lead at WPM!
