  • Football is Life – from Fracsac

5 pax, including 1 FNG, arrived at the Scrum looking to try out for the USF3L. One could smell the scent of competition hanging heavy in the air, sort of like rotting crawfish shells.
With the Shovel flag planted, a disclaimer was given, then a short mosey to a nice grassy area near the outdoor gym.

Warmup consisted of the usual stuff, skipping the unnecessary stuff. But we did do MNC and dancing was encouraged!

    Mosey to the open field:

Most of the world calls it football, but it’s soccer. We did a few different styles of offense vs defense and it was both fun and beneficial. We also knocked out 80 burpees. YHC was likely the worst player on the field.

Return to the warmup spot for a minute of stretching followed by a mosey to the flag for the COT.

Hawgcycle, Kennah Brah, YHC, Heisenberg and FNG Cyber Cajun all made the team! It was adult recess!!

  • Almost a Visit to Granny’s – from Akbar

YHC’s plan was to mosey to Granny’s for the main thang, but a backup plan was made after a peek at the weather last night. Unsure that anyone would arrive – with Pik still camping and JV announcing the fartsack at coffeeteria Saturday – YHC was pleasantly surprised when 3 cars pulled up at 5:14. Arriving to a dude with a flashlight and 2 bikes, with stuff strewn all over the aluminum picnic tables – where the back up beatdown would ensue – the backup plan was initiated and modified. Confirmed by Jose 10k, saying “I hope you don’t plan on going anywhere today.” We stayed at the courts and got down to business.

PAX: Akbar, Jose 10k, Speedy, Vagabond

Wu – SSH, Toe Touches, High Knees, Butt Kicks, Arm Circles (F/B), Self-Love, IW, Hillbillies

    7’s pull ups and squats

11’s Benches: Freak Nasty, karaoke half court, then run – Renegade Row Merkin

    Recovery walk

7’s Benches: Peter Parker with feet on bench, backward run half court/run, Tuck Jumps (modification jump squat or squat). Modification was taken by all but Speedy, who seemed to be the only one that could get his knees up that high:)

    11’s Stone Mountain, run, Squat

    Mary – LBC’s x 10

Count Name, and YHC prayed us out.

    Announcements: Zoorich Classic Saturday

    Moleskin:

Always good to have a backup plan in place. It wasn’t exactly what I pictured, but it worked.

Wasn’t sure if anyone would actually show, so I brought a cinder block and some dumbells for a secondary workout if I was alone.

Lots of legs today, and Speedy said his track coach was going to kill him with Districts tomorrow. After which Jose had my back saying how good it was to do other sports complementing track.

  • Holy Monday- Picking Figs and Cleansing Temples – from Paradox

YHC wanted to crank the intensity diving into Holy Week so when 3 Pax gathered at the stage a disclaimer was given that we would be following Holy Mondays scriptures and YHC would read these Gospel excerpts during a deep squat hold. (Deep Squat Disclaimers TM)

Once a traditional Goose warmup – (SSH, IW, AC, WM, buttkicks, high knees) with bumper mosey was complete, we got started.

    THANG 1
Authority of Jesus Questioned (Mathew 21: 23-27)
Numerous times in the Gospel the Pharisees approach Jesus and attempt to paint him into a corner and he ties their brain into a pretzel.

Played the Switchfoot classic “Dare you to Move” and completed step ups at the pavilion during whole song with burpees on – “dare you to move”

    THANG 2
We grabbed Ole Hickory (heavy bar) and gave Yankee Joe the full history of Ole Hickory dating back to the Civil War. Took OH for a deep mosey and stopped at first light of Rich Mans loop for our second reading.
Jesus Curses the Fig Tree ( Mathew 21: 18-22 )

One man took ole hickory for a one lightpole journey with hickory in shoulder position and lunges for the entirety. Remaining pax went ahead to next light and started Fig Pickers (cherry pickers with squats). Reflections were made on how far the goal of the next light looked when starting with this burden but in contrast how close the approaching man looked on the other side.
Two rounds of this and we returned to the flag.

    THANG 3
    Jesus Cleanses the temple(Mathew 21:12-17)

Table Flippers- 1 man takes ole hickory and completes 5 Hickory Squats then on the 5th tosses it as far as he can. Remaining pax complete a mix of big boy situps, LBCs, wife pleasers and penguins.

Prayers for the beginning of Holy Week and that God will help us put or own temples in His order.

COT and Yankee Joe prayed us out.

**Due to his effort and several recent posts, Yankee Joe graduated from YHC calling him “Cactus Jack” today. A momentous occasion.

Awesome effort on those Hickory Lunges fellas. Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

  • Holy Thursday–Plenty of Material to Work With – from Goose

4 PAX gathered in the gloom of an ominous Holy Thursday morning. Lightning flashed and rain threatened throughout, but off in the distance, there were breaks in the clouds that promised a hopeful future. But, until then, there was much to endure:
Warmup: SSH, AC, Cherry Pickers, Chinooks (gonna be using those shoulders today), IW, SL

Thang 1: Passover Prep and Darkness Prowling
Partner 1 prepped for Passover while Partner 2 prowled in the darkness for three rounds.

-Round 1: Partner 1–Colt 45’s with coupon (15 curls from waist to chest, 15 curls from thighs to waist, and 15 curls from thighs to chest); Partner 2–Block and bear across the field and back (bear crawl while dragging block forward from between legs/arms).

-Round 2: Partner 1–Bolt 45’s (15 squats with coupon from upright to halfway down, 15 from halfway down to all the way down, and 15 from all the way down to all the way up); Parter 2–Murder Bunnies w/coupon across the field and back.

-Round 3: Partner 1–Kettle bell swings until partner 2 returns; Partner 2–rifle carry (overhead) across the field, 10 squat thrusters, and rifle carry back.

Thang 2: 4 Corners = 4 stages of Holy Thursday night–2 rounds of each

Washing of the Feet–“If I do not wash you, you have no part in me.” (Jn 13:8)
15 Absolutions (8-count ab killer; look it up). Round 1 was called in cadence; round 2 was not, because YHC needed to breathe.

Last Supper–“And he took a chalice, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.” (Mk 14: 23).
15 Goblet squats (squats with coupon held vertically under the chin).

Judas’s Betrayal–” ‘It is he to whom I shall give this morsel when I have dipped it.’….So, after receiving the morsel, he immediately went out; and it was night.” (Jn 13: 26, 30)
    15 Dips, 15 right leg step-ups, 15 dips, 15 left leg step-ups

Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane–“Father, if you are willing, remove this chalice from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done.”
Mission Impossible plank (hold one inch off the ground)–PAX counted around in a circle up to 50.

After Round 1 of this, it was about 6:15, which is our 45 minute stop time, but for some reason, YHC had 6:30 locked in, so after Round 2 began, Enron and Paradox began to mumble on their bench: “Is he going over time? Is there some deeper meaning to this? Did we do something wrong? Did he secretly tell our wives we’d be later than usual?” Then, as we moved into round 2 of the Agony planks, YHC made a joke about “keeping watch for one hour”, which sealed the deal in the PAX’s mind that it we were purposefully going the whole hour, though YHC meant it only as a joke that we’d be planking for an hour if we really loved Jesus. And, just like Peter at the last supper, they were afraid to ask the Q directly, and hoped Kilo, who shared a bench with YHC, would ask. But, Kilo was blissfully without a watch and had no idea he would be late for work today.
So, we ended with a long sprint, a long carioca, and a long nur, to connect us to the apostles who all fled. And, we completed 6 minutes of Mary.
Just FYI, going over time, especially 15 minutes over, when the agreed time is 45 minutes is disrespectful to the PAX, and YHC would never purposefully surprise the men with such a move. My deepest apologies! And, thanks for your patience this morning, gents!
    SYITG,
    Goose

  • Clean and clear – from Shooter

After a cleansing rain over night 4 PAX posted at the Scramble. With Easter break upon us we had a Northern guest in Jose 10k join us on this mild gloom. YHC arrived with he and Zoolander waiting in the darkness.. Planted flag and commenced with a warmup of 10IC Windmills, Grass grabbers, Torso twists, Cherry pickers, Touch touches and as Cowbell arrived we grabbed a tree for some leg swings forward /back and side to side OYO. Lizard 🦎 stretch and down dawg before Moseying our normal route through Mandeville adding an additional loop. Jose 10k with EarPods in tow moseyed about at his own pace, while the remainder of the PAX cruised at a modest pace. Returned and closed with down dawg stretch and another Lizard 🦎 stretch.

    Announce, count, COT

Thanks for the post gentlemen and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • Real Simple – from Mobydick

Couldn’t get much simpler. Three old guys and the kid drag the chain up and down the garage ramp for 45 min. Actually it was a Tabata like sprint drag. The Pax each took hold of the ends of the doubled chain and a third grabbed the middle. Then the ends sprint dragged past the middle til all their chain was stretched out. Then the middle sprint dragged between them till the chain pulled taught. Then repeat. It took 4 alternating drag tests each to get to the top. The odd man out lunged or sprinted to the top where all rotated and repeated to the bottom Ritate and back to the top. After 45 minutes of that mission declared accomplished

  • The Turtle – from Fracsac

The last time YHC posted at the Foundry is unknown. It could likely be found, but what’s the point? It was long ago….too long. YHC saw the Q sheet open and made the commitment to return.
Saban, Jesus Juice, Tool, Sandberg, and BayWatch made it clear they were ready!
We did a little warmup, with MNC and dancing included! End with 10 burpees OYO
Mosey to the Foundry via the LCM bridge, stopping at the benches so Saban could attempt to murder a turtle. Luckily the turtle saw him coming and dashed out of the way….
Step ups and Dips completed, then continue the mosey to the Foundry.
    EMOM x 5 minutes for 50 burpees
    Stations:
    Jump the Green Snake AMRAP
Pull ups or 90 degree hang
Run to track, 3 burpees, run back – timer
    Rinse and Repeat
    EMOM x 5 minutes for 50 burpees
Church bells ring. Apparently it’s a tradition to do 6 burpees at 6 am. So, 6 more burpees. The pax were very pleased.

    Embrace the Suck:
    7 x SSH
    7 x Merkins
    7 x jump squats
Continue for 3 minutes. If any pax can hit 8 rounds, no more burpees.
    Saban hit 8 rounds….well done!!

Mosey back to flag for Mary and COT

    That’s 122 burpees for the morning. T-Claps!

  • Stations of the Cross (seriously…) – from Rudy

YHC recycled the basic Holy Week Stations of the Cross workout. 8 other PAX appeared in the gloom to join him. One of those PAX decided it was a good idea to bring a 10 foot cross tie. He was right.

Circle Up for the Warm up: Abe Vigoda x5. That’s enough. All we’ve got time for, as we have a lot of work to be done.

A few minutes to explain the drill. Each of the Station is a 3 minute cycle:
+ Lunge Walk half way across the football field (about 25 yards, seems to take 60-75 seconds)
+ Exercise until the 2:30 mark
    + Plank

During the Plank, YHC will announce the next station and the exercise that goes with it.

9 PAX will each take a turn with the cross tie, dragging it for the lunge walk (which makes it take a LOT longer…). At the 10th station, pair up and carry the cross tie (still lunge walking). So everyone got two rounds with the tie.

Station 1: Jesus sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate. Peter – Parker – Peters
Station 2: Jesus takes up his cross. Hand release Merkins
Station 3: Jesus falls the first time. Burpees (fall down, get back up)
Station 4: Jesus meets his mother Mary. BBSU (what else goes with Mary???)
Station 5: Simon helps Jesus. Slow Squats (this isn’t a race. Get parallel…)
Station 6: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus. V-Ups
Station 7: Jesus falls the second time. Burpees
Station 8: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem. Hello Dolly
Station 9: Jesus falls the 3rd time. Burpees
Station 10: Jesus stripped of his garments. Squat Jumps (quads are definitely burning)
Station 11: Jesus nailed to the cross. T-Merkins
Station 12: Jesus dies on the cross. Genuflects (I thought my quads were burning before!)
Station 13: Jesus taken down from the cross. Carolina Dry Docks
Station 14: Jesus placed in the tomb. Low Plank

“Spy Day”. The day Judas betrays Jesus. Jesus knew that it was coming. He knew it when he chose Judas as an apostle. He knew it when Judas came to the last supper. He knew it all along, and he still chose Judas. One recent reading (alas, YHC cannot recall the source): “Judas’ biggest failure was not making it to Easter Sunday – when even HE would have been forgiven”.

No matter our sins, no matter our failures. Jesus welcomes us back to the fold. Let us always accept that forgiveness.
