  • Where ever there are two or more – from Mobydick

    After a x20 series of stretches ssh arm circles self love windmills and a mosey around the roof the two of us Jose 10k and I did a host of exercises. All sorts of merkins x20 with a back peddle and karaoke trip around the roof . Then core work with 100 lbc. 100 leg lifts. And another trip around the roof only lunging and squats. There was more but I’m old and I forget. The A1c is alive and well.

  • Tulips at the Renaissance – from Fracsac

    YHC was way off mission for a couple weeks and knew the best way to kick off the get right campaign was by taking the Q at the Reni.

    Vagabond, Hokie, Heisenberg and MacGyver joined YHC just to see what was in store….but they knew…

    With the Tulips in bloom, this was the ideal opportunity to share some fun facts about these highly sought after perennials.

    Warmup was typical stuff, like SSH, AV, GG, and AC. Threw some IW in too. Finished with 10 x 8 count Body builders.

    Mosey to the Tulips. 10 burpees OYO.
    Fun fact, tulips only bloom for 3 to 7 days, so we did 3 minutes of embrace the suck:
    7 SSH, 7 Merkins and 7 jump squats (AMRAP)

    If you ever run out of onions, use a turnip bulb. It’s edible. That was a very useless fact….
    EMOM 10 Burpees x 5 minutes

    Mosey a little further down. Tulips come from Central Asia (not Holland) and the word comes from the Turkish word for “turban.” I guess the tulip looks like a turban. Another Embrace the suck x 3 minutes.

    Mosey to the singing oak.
    EMOM 10 Burpees x 5 minutes
    If you ever need color in your dish, use tulip petals. They’re edible.

    Mosey back to the Tulips. How many petals on a Tulip? There are 3. It looks like 6 because the sepals are very similar to the petals.
    EMOM 10 Burpees x 3 minutes.

    There are approximately 150 species of tulips, and we completed 150 burpees total….

    Head toward the back of NOMA. What’s the only color of the rainbow that does not truly exist in Tulips? MacGyver guessed blue and he was right!

    3 minutes of Sunday Mornings.

    Back to VSF for COT.

    100% attended Coffeteria!

  • Mountain Grinder – from Mahatma

    5 gathered on a cool morning the early conversation from Beloq was how he was beatdown by a……girl! Doing some sort of stretching so after a disclaimer and comfort zone encouragement we began with the “Scantron” for warm up X 2! Then
    Cherry Pickers x 10
    SSH X 20
    Side Lung Stretch

    After that we slow moseyed to the base of the Wisner – 30 sec of Mnt climbers ascended 1/2 30 of sqt jumps ascended to the top 30 sec of wall sit with air presses – descended 1/2 way 30 of alt lunges descended to the bottom 30 sec of Carolina dry docks

    Then down to choose a block for 3 rounds of AMRAP:
    #1 arms
    X 20 ea
    TriCep
    Curls
    Kettle Bell Swing
    Then run quarter way up the bridge
    Most finished 2 rounds plus
    #2 chest
    5 Burpees
    20 push ups
    20 front raises
    Run
    Again everyone finished atleast 2 rounds
    #3 core all with block
    X 20
    V Ups
    American Hammer
    LBC

    Rtn blocks then start back with 6 stops similar to the route out ea with 30 sec exercise. Push ups, plank rotation low to high, wall sit with air press.

    At the bottom mosey as s group back to the flag.

    Then COT

    Great to lead!

  • The Reality of Weakness – from Goose

    A solid nine PAX gathered at the Peltch despite having six regulars out due to sickness or travel. An FNG showed early and was almost spooked by what at first seemed only to be a pile of kids wrestling around a flag. It was only YHC’s three 2.0’s, and it didn’t take long for the rest of the PAX to pull in and make it clear that there were plenty of out-of-shape adults to play with, too. The FNG (Jacob Broussard) was EH’d by Tighty Whitey, and is an awesome addition to the Thibodaux crew!

    Warmup was led by Coyote, whose cadence count was adequate, and consisted of: SSH, Windmills, high knees, butt kicks, Arm Circles, IW, and Self-love
    Moseyed to the Diamond for…

    Thang 1: Duck Jousting
    The infield was the ring, and with arms folded across the chest (most of the time), duck-walking PAX tried to knock each other down. Last man standing won while those who fell did exercises while they waited: squats for the first round, lunges for the second, and heel raises for the third. There may have been some elbows, arm hooks, and very tall ducks here and there, but even without performance enhancing tactics, rounds were short, and the FNG proved himself a sturdy duck.

    Thang 2: All Around the Thunderdome
    Moseyed to the Thunderdome and circled in the center while YHC explained that the PAX would do an exercise for the length of time it took for one of us to run the sidewalk around the dome and the adjacent community center building (approx. 400 meters). While each took a turn running, the rest completed one of the following exercises while yearning to catch a glimpse of the runner coming around the final corner from behind the building:
    * Mission Impossible plank
    * Heel raises
    * J-Lo’s
    * Donkey kicks
    * Diamond Merkins
    * Heels to Heaven
    * Bonnie Blairs
    * Chill cut plank
    * Merkins

    Thang 3: The Ground is Lava
    Moseyed to the playground where YHC revealed the lesson of the day, particularly as it related to Thang 2 and 3:

    There’s only so much we can do at any particular moment about the fact that we have weaknesses, and those weaknesses will affect other people in a negative way whether we like it or not. And, we will be affected in a negative way by the weaknesses of others, whether we like it or not. What reveals the true greatness in man (and the image of the Maker in man), however, is our ability to choose how we respond when affected by another’s weakness. Our true greatness is shown clearest when we choose to allow ourselves to be affected by the weakness of another so that he’s not left alone in it. “No man left behind” is most deeply and fruitfully fulfilled when we’re willing to suffer with another man even if we have the ability to avoid that suffering ourselves. “Catching the six” is the most obvious example of this in F3, but so is “The Ground is Lava”:

    PAX lined up at the long-ish monkey bars to traverse, hand over hand, without touching the ground. If any appendage so much as brushed the ground, all PAX dropped for 10 burpees. Same rules applied for two other areas of the playground–mostly requiring upper body strength, balance, and perseverance. Most of the elements were chosen knowing that one or two guys might struggle, but the burpees were done with willing camaraderie, and there was no room for shame or isolation.
    What seemed like it might have a childish feel on paper ended up feeling more like a joint challenge, and the shouting of encouraging words and guidance were a constant.
    The only thing YHC might have changed was the use of the slides at the end. These suckers came down long and steep from the second story, and they were wet. There were three next to each other, the middle one straight and the other two bending sharply, one to the right and the other to the left at the very end. Percleator was the first down the middle, and he almost had his pretty grill knocked out as he was thrown dangerously close to the perimeter boundary at about 30 mph. Paradox chose the one to the right, and YHC wished he would have caught the violent, body-tossing action on camera as he was jarred sideways at the hip air after slipping a reportedly “six-times faster” than he expected through the bend at the bottom. He landed hard on his side after barrel rolling in the air once or twice, but he’s a medical professional, so he was able to reset all dislocated joints before we could even ask if he was ok. The rest used the shoe brake method, but the fire-pole may have been the better call.

    Indian Run around the park before a final sprint to the flag for three long minutes of Mary: all IC–Alphabet (with feet in leg raise position), LBC’s, Wife Pleasers, Crunchy Frogs.

    Welcome Pledge! Way to stick with it!

    COT and Percleator prayed us out.

    Awesome morning, and so grateful to you men for posting and pushing hard!
    See You in the Gloom,
    Goose

  • 1 out of 2 ain’t that bad!! – from Shooter

    With carnival week being full of festivities for some and vacations for others YHC picked up 2 Qs for the week.. Monday being a solo appearance, this Gloom started out with that same possibility as I arrived to the AO with no one in sight… And then there was lights, as the reliable Waterpik turned the corner to make sure today would not be another solo…
    Began our chatter and catching up from his recent journey West.. Q was so excited to have his brother back I started the warmup without any count or directions just started SSH to an imaginary number… Then the REAL Cowbell showed up a few mins late but YHC will give credit as the previous day he was at the Gipper earlier than anyone else.. After completing some Grass grabbers, Imperial walkers and front and back and side to side leg swings..
    PAX journeyed through Mandeville for a 30 min mosey and returned for some core LBCs, left elbow to right knee, right elbow to left knee..

    Appreciate the post fellas till the Next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Please no more mileage – Day 2 of No Run Cajun Run – from Reluctant Yankee

    A pretty warm day. Beautiful sunrise after the beatdown.
    I had the Ash Wednesday Q.
    Pleasantly surprised to see our team effort EH of Cherry Koch aka Chicken Hawk – make it to his first beatdown. Welcome to NOLA!
    Warm Up COP – SSH, Imp Walker Squats, Merks, Dying Roaches
    Willie had a mid-workout King Cake induced MOOP – so I modified for a second to an exercise that would keep us in the area.
    Ran the OAK ALLEY with a BLIMPS by the bandstand.
    Luckily Willie (who used the women’s room!) returned quickly with both socks (right JV) and we only had 5 burpees and one lap.
    Ran to the Labyrinth
    In the maze we did:
    x 20, step ups Right, Dips, Step ups Left, Bench supported wife pleasers (plus whatever it was that Angie did – he doesn’t follow directions well) x decline merks, Bulgarian split left, shoulder taps, Bulgarian split right
    Quick Mary with Freddies, Ukraine twist, LBC, LBT, and LBO L/R (little baby obliques)

    Ran back to Shelter – shout out the Tulane frat hazing ritual – all the guys were at it working hard on ASH Wednesday

    At the shelter we repeated the same cycle of the Labyrinth. x 16
    Then we started the cycle again but just did step ups and dips x 12 but then it was time

    At the flag we did left arm and right arm plank.

    Prayed for Ukraine – prayed to better our selves with some real intent during Lent.

  • Trench Run #7 – Mardi Gras 2022 – from Reluctant Yankee

    Thoth Sunday? MidCity Sunday? Bacchus Sunday? We don’t care – we just love to run the St Charles route early on Sunday am. 2nd to last day of Run Cajun Run.
    We met at Superior Seafood – for a very crowded route run.
    Ran out the door to check on my parade gear at the neutral ground – spot was mostly intact just had some new neighbors on either side of my gear.
    A light drizzle was in effect but the temp was warm!
    Angie’s List was happy to see the same lady from last year guarding her spot in front of the restaurant. King Kong was psyched to get his first Trench Run.
    We angered a bunch of route dwellers with our display of speed – lots of Boos.
    We were joined by Almonaster a bit late – he missed the flurry of the evening texts that changed the start time from 7am to 630am. Worth noting that typically we start the trench run at 6 but this year we opted into a little late sleeping.
    We ran down to Canal.
    We ran back to Napoleon/St Charles.
    We saw the trophy and pancake guys again.
    Chiquita dropped out of the run to join 6 dudes on bikes pulling a pirate ship.
    Willie dropped out to check on his parade spot.
    A final sprint for the last two blocks made for some entertainment for the parade people.
    Nice to get out and burn off some parade beers from Saturday or premeditated for Sunday.
    Let’s hope that Thoth gets its route back next year!

  • Day One of Lent – from Boo-Boo
