  • Summer is here!

The air was thick from the celebration of our nations birthday!  Happy Birthday Nation!  BBQ and beer mixed with the dense humidity to say “Purification through sweat awaits!”  Oh yes it was hot and sticky, the kind of sticky a 5 year old gets when they play with BBQ’d ribs covered in sauce!

8 Pax gathered around the flag for the Q to arrive in the nick of time!

We pushed off into the gloom circling up for standard warm up

    SSH x 36

    IW x 28

    Peter Parker x 15

The air began to grow thicker and the spanish moss reminded me of Yoda’s home on Dagobah so we  moseyed to the shelter, where we did our 5 mins of BTW with some Baby Crunches in between.  There was no try only Do!

We then proceeded to Oak Alley where we did a series of wind sprints and high knees to the track and repeat.  We did  6 or 8 lengths time is all relative when on Dagobah.

Pairing up we did Dips followed by Parker Peters, followed by Squats while our partners ran to the pull up bars by the flag to do 10 pull ups.

Back to the shelter we did a meandering snake of right leg and left leg power ups, followed by a real quick session of Mary where we did Real Freddie Mercury, The Putins, and Box Cutters.

With time and creativity spent we called it a morning as the sun rose!

  • Rising Sun Brings Crowds to the Birdcage!

The Birdcage is getting crowded for a cool morning and an earlier rising sun.
A euphoric feeling of exhaustion, coffee, and determination to drive the masses to exercise.

We began with the obligatory mosey and warm up circle
    SSH x20
    Imperial Walker Squats X20
    Forward Arm Circle X20
Reverse Arm Cricles X20 (thank you Quick Draw for counting correctly!)

We then moseyed to Oak Alley for alternating lunges and butt kicks.

At the track we run Burpee Me If You Can out and back total 10 Burpees

Back up Oak Ally alternating lunges and high knees.

At the bandstand we partnered up for Dora 100 Mericans, 200 Dips, and 300 Declined Parker Peters, while partner rant to track and back.

Lastly we moseyed to Oak Alley for alternating lunges and wind sprints to the flag!

  • Winter is coming

It is clear I know nothing about Q’ing! Thank you to Duey for volunteering me on the darkest and coldest morning while he lay fast asleep in his warm bed nursing a spaztic calf muscle.

We left with 11 pax and headed towards old man river, passing the hens of Audubon Zoo paying for their time in the gloom.

    We began with:
    20 SSH
    20 IW squats
    20 Inclined Parker Peters

We moseyed on towards the fly, to the soccer fields. At the field we modified a BLIMPS
Bear Crawl over and backwards on the termite mound. Beware the grass was a little slippery
    Lunges across the soccer field
    15 IW
    20 Mericans
    25 PJ
    30 Squats

As a train was coming we sent one ahead, Quick Draw, to reserve our spot at The Labrynth. As we tried to catch Quick Draw, L-wired assured the pack that it was only an engine and we didn’t need worry about being trapped on the fly. As we approached the road by Children’s Hospital we realized the folly of ways. The engine was pulling many unseen flat cars. So we waited on the incline for the cars to pass. We spent this time doing
    20 inclined LBCs
20 inclined Ivankas (Inclined Trumps / Putins / Russian Twist)
    20 inclined LBTs
    20 RFM

after the train finally passed we reached the Labrynth where we had no sign of Quick Draw. We did a little more Mary with:
    20 LBCs
    20 Dying Cockroaches
    10 Doctor Ws.

The pax headed off with an Indian Run to find Quick Draw who was waiting at The Bandstand.

  • Black Friday Gut Buster Queue

The morning was dark with a crescent moon and Jupiter trailing in ascension. My belly was full with gallopavo, stuffing, and beer! Saban greeted me saying I wouldn’t have to Queue alone. As we arrived we thought we might have a Metairie workout, as no one else was at the Flag, or at least where the flag should be. According to legend Roots lost it during yesterday’s Turkey Trot. That is at least what I was told because Roots didn’t show up to defend his honor. As we walked up to the Post out of the gloom came Nip Tuck, Duey, Bartman, and Spool. OH YEA!!! We are going to have a beat down!!

Started with a warm up jog to Gibson Quad at Tulane. Asked if it was fast enough most said “It’s okay..but certainly faster than ‘The Metairie’”. We did a circle of side straddle hops, arm cirlces (fwd/bck), and mountain climbers. Asked if everyone was warmed up and limbered up and the reply came back “It’s okay..but certainly more limber than ‘The Metairie’”.

We moseyed over to the Navy Building for some Pull Ups and LBCs. Breaking up into 2 groups we did 30 P/Us as the count. After a quick repetition we hustled over to WolfPack Mountain, up to the 2nd deck. From there we would push each other to new heights! We started with a modified Jack Webb doing 5 mericans w/ 10 air presses. We lunged our way up the incline and jogged over to the next incline where we increased the Jack Webbs to 10/20 followed by more lunges up the incline. We repeated this going up to 20/40. For the final incline we thought it best to bear crawl up the last part of WolfPack mountain. When asked the queue if this was hard they said “It’s okay…but its harder than ‘The Metairie’”. So we circled up for something about Mary where we went from LBC’s, to Pickle Pounders, to LBTs, to PutTrumpins, back to Pickle Pounders, to flutter kicks, and Hello Dolly’s!

As the sun was rising we hustled down the stairs and over the the fountain benches by the post were we went through a series of Dips, Shoulder Slaps, and Kossak Dips. When asked if this was hard, the group said “Yea it was hard…too hard for ‘The Metairie’”!

  • VQ – Special Mission

On a gloomy morning last week, I received word, while I sat on the can, that I would be Q’ing, so it would start rolling down from there.  I’m not sure what the V in VQ stood for.  In Naval Aviation it is a special mission squadron so I thought I had to be all secret squirrel with the glooms events.

Started with light mosey and warm up

    20 – SSH

    20- Windmills

    20- Imperial Walkers

    20- Shoulder Slaps.

We sashay, shanted over to Audubon for a little Dora 1-2-3

In the first wave we did Jack Webbs 1:2 while the second group ran around the island.  We did this x3

After Roots complained about his the bricks bothering his knees, we moved to the island grass where his 6 would enjoy three rounds of Thors (Full Crunch with Twists on the end) we did this x3

The final round of Dora was 1 leg lifts alternating legs every 10 while the running group lunged to the end of the island and jogged back.  We did this once as it hurt….a lot!

Oh and we had an FNG (Fiddler New Guy) whom we named Stradivarius with little deliberation.

Before we left Audubon we did 20 Declined Parker Peters and 20 Dips.  From there we sashay, shanted back to the flag.  With time remaining we did Burppees in honor of those who EH’d me into F3 (Roots, Newhart, Cavalier, Reddit, and Duey)
