  • Brickathon – from Rudy

Loaded up the Mini with enough bricks for the expected Wolfpack Mountain crowd. Had to dig up a few extra pavers from the driveway just to make sure (and had to replace them quickly before the M saw them missing…). 530 rolls around – so lets get started.

Circle up in front of Tulane for a real quick warmup. Some SSH, some forgetfullness (oh yeah, Imperial Walkers). Then gather round the Mini and start unloading the bricks – grab yourself 2 and head to the foot of the mountain. Fair warning to the PAX who were listening: the pavers were definitely heavier than the bricks. That would become more and more evident as the workout went on.

At the mountain, lets start the WFT run up the mountain. Lots of chatter about “bricks” and “car windows”. Oh yeah, I guess that’s kind of a thing around the uptown parts. I did not explicitly mention “dont throw bricks at cars” in the Disclaimer. Perhaps I should have.

Stopping at the halfway point, we planked for the 6. THen some Peter Parkers (quick 5 OYO burpees for Angie, who apparently never shuts the h**k up..), Then some shoulder taps (with bricks). Then WFT run the rest of the way up.

    At the top, partner up.

1st round: PAX1 hand release brick-merkins, PAX2 bear crawl down the ramp a ways, then mosey back up. “A ways down” seemed imprecise enough for the PAX. And YHC, without glasses, was unable to distinguish light posts from other posts. So everyone just make the best of it.

2nd round: PAX1 dying cockroaches (w/ bricks). PAX2: Mosey down, then Crab Walk up. El Wire insisted on more precise instructions again. So we’ll do 2 rounds each: Crab Walk up once, Walk Crab the other time (though YHC is still not sure which way is which).

Might (or might not) have been a 3rd round. Alas, I don’t recall.

Now time for groups of 3. Once again, YHC is reminded at how hard simple instructions can be for PAX during a workout. But eventually, everyone managed to get into appropriately sized groups. PAX1: run down the ramp and start Situps at the bottom. PAX2: Start Floyd Mayweathers (w/ bricks). PAX3: Run down the ramp (w/ bricks). Keep trading out, running up and down (as a team). Keep going for a while. Here’s where YHC lost out on the sooth, light bricks, and was stuck with the gritty heavy paver. That DEFINITELY made a difference for poor little ol’ YHC.

Then – head to the Touchdown Jesus lawn.

A few rounds of Bones (Wait, no Bieber) keeping time: 7 burpees on the minute, finish the minute with an exercise. Wanted to get through 7 rounds of this – but PAX started grumbling about being late. So had to call it off. Reload the Mini (I’ll give the Uptown PAX credit – they did a DARN NICE job of neatly restacking the bricks!).

COT: 29 PAX. Lots of running stuff coming up. Call out our intentions, remember our victories, thanks and needs in a moment of silence, and finish up with a prayer.

Thanks for letting me lead through a typically disfunctional Rudy workout!

  • end of time – from Jingle Vader

warm up, up the mountain with blimps, benches, touchdown jesus, etc

  • Lawn Dart for Pinwheels – from Reluctant Yankee

I took Squeal’s scheduled beatdown. We welcomed Stuart Hill aka Lawn Dart for his first beatdown.
I wanted to bring the tooth fairy and the pinwheel to WPM.
Started with a longish mosey to Tulane near McAllister.
COP1: SSH IMP walker-squats, Dying Roaches
Mosey’d to the Field at Yulman
COP2: Tooth Fairy – pushups up the stairs while partner did low country crab
COP 3: PINWHEELs on the Field at Yulman – Plank Jacks – maybe we should make this a new AO one day a week? Just a thought.
COP 4: Headed over to Little WPM – 20 Russian Twists every floor to the top
down the stairs and over to WPM
RUN TO THE TOP OF WPM at each level we did 10 merks
Down the stairs and back to the FLAG. We had to hustle! arrived 30 secs late.

  • Saints / Packers Beatdown Commemoration – from Landing Strip

In honor of the thing of beauty that was yesterday’s Saints “home opener” vs. the Packers, the PAX performed a game-themed workout with high efficiency. The cadence of each exercise was tied to a key stat.

    Warmup
First we moseyed to the front of Tulane’s campus and did SSHs (50 – O/U) and burpees (3 – spread (to GB)).

    Tha Thing
We then moseyed to the base of the Loyola Rec Plex garage where we Cleveland Guardian-ran to the top. Finding our usual stairwells filled with HVAC tubing, we ran up and down a spacious, brick-paved and fully air conditioned stairwell after performing each one of the following exercises:
-LBCs (171 – rushing yards (modified to 100))
    -Merkins (22 – first downs)
-Dying roaches (60 – total plays)
    -Burpees (3 – turnovers)

We then moseyed to the base of WPM and again Guardian-ran to the top. From there, we did more exercises and up-downs, this time in smelly, cramped, un-air conditioned stairs:
-Shoulder taps (39 – total rushes)
    -J-Los (34 – time of possession)
    -8 count body builders (2 – INTs)
    -Burpees (2 – sacks)

We then moseyed back to the flag for a final set of 20 low country crabs, in honor of starting QB Jameis WInston’s feast on a W yesterday!

  • Glorious Return to WPM – from Fracsac

26 Pax made a choice to take the DRP on their journey to get right and posted to The Legendary Wolf Pack Mountain to see what YHC had on the beat down menu. With a shovel flag planted, disclaimer was given, then:

Mosey over to the Rosy Palm Court and circle up for a warmup:

    IW IC x 15
    Abe Vigodas x 10
    Grass Grabbers x 10
Bat wings AC, SC, OH, MNC (dancing encouraged)
Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10

Count off and pax instructed to remember their number. Then count 1,2,1,2….

    Mosey to the mountain…

Two columns, hence the 1 and 2 count. Run to the top of the mountain with last pax sprinting to front all the way up.

Once on top, take the stairs back down to level 4.

Burpee broad jump the short side of level 4, then bear crawl the long way.

Head back up the mountain, with quadraphilia on the inclines and sprints on the straight aways, all OYO.

Circle up on the top for a mental test. The Q has the pax recall their number, then combines the numbers in some fashion for SSH. The instructions are clear: execute SSH IC up to the first number followed by SSH in silence and completing together, with the Q being the cadence to follow. Failure to follow instructions results in a penalty.
    Spoiler alert: there were penalties.
    Penalty 1 – Heisenberg Seal burpees x 10 (burpee with 2 Merkins)
    Penalty 2 – Heisenberg Seal burpees x 15
Penalty 3 – Sprint to far wall and back and do 10 burpees.
The 4th time the Pax got it, sort of.
Time for one set of Tin Snips IC x 20.

Return to the flag for COT

    NMM

    – YHC hasn’t done WPM in a while, and wow! What a rockin’ AO!
    – The uptown crowd was surprisingly quiet today, minimal Mumblechatter going on.
    – There’s a rumor going around about doing burpees even if the pax were in perfect sync. I cannot confirm nor deny this rumor, except to encourage the pax to continue to reach for perfection.
    – Coffeteria was awesome and well attended.
    – Thanks for allowing me to be part of such an incredible group of men, and for gifting me the opportunity to lead.

  • Summer Sweat is Back – from Tinkles

The days are starting to get a bit more humid and what was recently tolerable seems to be getting tougher. Today seemed that way, and I was happy when the workout was over.
    Warm Up:
    • Mosey around a bit and settle at the Tulane lawn
    • SSH IC x 30, Imperial Walker IC x 20, Forward arm circle IC x 20, Reverse arm circle IC x 20.

    First Thing:
    • 10 Burpees EMOM for 10 minutes- sorry about the lack of music, will do better next time!
    • Recover with some penguins IC x 20, and LBCs IC x 30

    Second Thing:
    • Mosey over to the garage, backwards run up the inclines and forward run the flats to the top
    • Down the stairs to the bottom and then back up the other staircase
o To illustrate the lack of ventilation in the stairwell, someone’s weed lingered in the air adding to the sweat
    • Back down again

    Third Thing:
    • To the benches for right leg power up IC x 10, Decline merkins IC x 10, left leg power up IC x 10
    • Mosey back to the flag for some time killing wife pleasers

    • Count off, namorama
    • Welcomed FNG. Previous run-in with Pop o’ Lock or friends yields ‘Perp’. Welcome Perp!

  • Along the lazy river under the pale moonlight – from Mariah

6 pax for the usual route along the levee. We ran through Audubon Park, up to the levee at Magazine and then followed the river up to Oak Street. Across Oak to Broadway and into and through Tulane. Freret to Palmer, and then back to the virtual flag on St Charles. 5.2miles, 7:50 pace. Welcome to F3 Flapjack, visiting our fine city on spring break from Chapel Hill, NC.

  • Time to use our arms again – from Mariah

Large crowd for the first Wolfpack of March, and after a quick disclaimer we moseyed across St Charles to Loyola’s Palm Court for a Warm up. Like many, I’ve been wearing out the miles all of February for Run Cajun Run, and while I can now run fast and far, I can barely open a jar…time for a bit of upper body work.

Warm up (all 15 ct in cadence):
SSH, Peter Parker, Windmills, Carolina Drydock, Parker Peter

Mosey over to the base of the mountain, at which point it was clear our numbers were problematic…we split into two waves and proceeded up the ramp for 2 rounds of BLIMPS with exercises at each landing.
Burpees > Lunges > Imperial Walkers > Merkins > Plankjacks > Squats….repeato until the top.

Large oval/ring of fire on the roof: merkins/wide arms/ diamonds

Mary in cadence (15 ct): flutters, dollys, Russian twist, dying cockroach
15 merkins OYO, then back down the ramps and out to the…

Benches for the following (again 15ct in cadence):
    Dips >
    RL step ups >
    Incline merkins >
    LL step ups…
..OH SWEET JESUS, WHAT IS THAT SMELL?? Evacuate and hot mosey away from the truck pumping out the septic tank…. regroup at Palm Court and resume…
    LL step ups >
    Dips >
    RL Power-ups >
    LL Power-ups >
    All Ya Got Derkins.

Mosey back to the flag for COT.

33 pax for the workout, and welcome to FNG Will Jones from Son of a Saint, known now as The Beast.

We gathered for a group Run Cajun Run photo with oversized check for over $6700 which we presented to Will and SoaS, which is amazing. I know I speak for many in being incredibly proud of both the financial support we are able to give, but also the fact that 200 of us and our NOLA friends stepped up to participate in Run Cajun Run and demonstrate our support for SoaS last month. Our support will surely have a direct impact on many young men in our community, providing hope, mentorship and a positive path.

As always Thank You for the daily accountability and for the opportunity to lead.

    Until next time
    Xoxo,
    Mariah

  • Tsunami Mile Trial #3 – from Bieber

Today marked our third mile trial at the Uptown Tsunami AO since we decided to copycat (sort of) the Wally Sprint. Perhaps in a time when COVID isn’t as rampant we can do a joint time trial with our cross-town brothers. On this Tuesday, however, the uptown usual suspects gathered at the starting line for 45 minutes that would see their heart rates peak early, and from there it was a task just to hang on.

The Thang: .5 mile warm up followed by some light stretching, high knees, butt kicks, shuffles, and a sprint.

1 mile at your best. Times ranged between 5:50 and 7:30 for the 7 runners.

Next, we used the “Running Man” markers on the track at the park to fuel the rest of the workout, progressively speed up for 5 running men, jog for 5. That got us another lap around, followed by a .5 mile cool down.

4.something miles total (depending on your watch)

Excellent effort by all. Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

  • I see a Bad Moon a rising! – from Bieber

Four Pax embraced the final gloom of 2020 for a jaunt through the French Quarter. @Bad Moon joined us for the first time at this AO, and we launched into a 5.5 mile trek at sub 8 minute pace.
The cool fog rolled off the river, and the usual suspects greeted us along the way. This run always goes by so quickly…so much to see.
Thank you for the opportunity to lead.
I hope 2021 helps me set my roots further with F3 and provides ample inspiration to continue striving to be the best version of myself. Wishing us all a great 2021.
