  • Leave no Man Behind – from Heisenberg

Leave no man behind, but leave no man where you find him

Warm up in the Peristyle – Imperial Walkers, Grass Grabbers, Abe Vigoda, Peter Parkers, Parker Peters, Arm Circles, 8 Count Body Builders.
Leave No Man Behind – We separated into three groups. Group one carried the 80lb sand medicine ball (“Aponi”), 60lb sandbag (“Sandy”), and a 40lb sandbag (I didn’t catch the name) towards the Foundry. In contrast, the other two groups moseyed a certain distance, then performed three burpees and swept back to meet the group with the coupons. This was repeated as each group took turns carrying coupons or running/Burpees/sweeping the six until we arrived at the Foundry.

Foundry – keeping our groups, we had stations of merkins, pull-ups, lunges, and the timer of running to the walking path and performing three burpees. Those looking for additional work performed the timer with sandbags. We completed three rounds.

Tool Wall – using the one group carries and two groups sweep we moved to the tool wall for some calf work.

Great Lawn –Again, alternating groups with coupons, we moved from the Tool Wall to the Great Lawn for some mary and then back to the flag with a bit of time for some burpees.

COT – Welcome down range Carpool (Northshore, now Woodlands Tx) and Chick (San Antonio, now Chicago), and FNG Clouseau, and welcome back Kotter to Kimchi.

    Notes
Aponi (as suggested by ChatGPT) – “Aponi,” which means “butterfly” and is associated with healing and transformation in several Native American cultures. The name is often given to girls with the hope that they will grow up to become healers or medicine women.

TClaps to Mahatma for performing lunges with Aponi and KimChi for his triumphant return.

  • The Star of the Pyramid – from Fracsac

YHC committed to the Star of the View as the IPC was completed Monday, and this guy had no intention of making a second go of it.

Not sure who would be present, a simple beat down was prepared. Luckily Kimchi and Mambi showed up to prevent a one Pax show.

  • Return of KimChi

Mothership is the AO where I met other PAX outside of Uptown. I miss those days where we were averaging 20 plus PAX. But because of COVID, as leaders in our community, we added new AOs to thin out the numbers of PAX at each beatdown. Well, 10 strong PAX (one FNG – Two Dollar) showed up this morning, and Bogey made sure I knew that none of my Uptown PAX showed up for my Anniversary Q. When Jingle Vader was coming in hot, I told Bogey “See, there is an Uptowner!” Bogey responded “He’s here every Saturday.”

I can write about the exercises… we did Dora, partner workout at the Great Lawn, round of Mary…. but the highlight of the day was to see KimChi back. Even better was that I was able to catch up with him during the cleanup. BTW, our area of City Park is beautiful. Well done PAX. I am extremely thankful that I am part of the F3 community. I don’t know where my mental state will be during COVID if I don’t have this. KimChi – none of us can understand what you are going through, but I hope to see you back out regularly. There is no cure for your wounds, but I hope spending an hour with your F3 brothers on a Saturday morning will bring a little joy because it certainly does for me.

  • Whooped

The View has a namesake for each day, with Wednesday being, you guessed it, Whoopie. YHC considered a Whoopie themed beat down, but just couldn’t come to terms with it. With the next best thing in mind, YHC intended to bring a good whoopin’. 4 eager Pax joined YHC for a group 5 strong on the humid shore of the Lake. A brief disclaimer, then on to it…

    Warmup

    SSH IC x 31 Abe Vigodas IC x 10 GG IC x 10 IW IC x 20 Low Slow Squats IC x 10 PP IC x 20 Shoulder Taps IC x 20 MC IC x 20 10 Burpees OYO

    COP 1

Mosey to the bench and circle up for Ring of Fire. Hold Al Gore and each Pax completes 10 Monkey Humpers, next starting at 5 count. Rinse and Repeat x 3. Shake it off with SSH IC x 10

    Dirty Mac Duece

YHC showed up early and set up some cones on both sides of the levee to make the course. Four rounds of 3 x 12 rep exercise with a lap up and over the levee and back. There were arms, legs and core on each. If you wanted to know more detail, you should have been there. It was awesome!

    COP 2

Grab a rock and circle back up. All Pax hold the rock overhead while each Pax completes 10 curls, next starting at 5 count. Rinse and Repeat x 3. I think we did something else, but who knows. We were all sweaty.

    Triple Nickel

5 Rounds of 5 exercise at the base of the levee and 5 exercises at the top of the levee. It’s a real blast, especially when you do burpees at the base and merkins at the top. Spoiler alert, we did that. Kimchi was impressed by this point.

    COP 3

There were only a few minutes left, so Pax was instructed to grab their rocks. Papa Smurf was saddened at first, but overjoyed when he discovered we weren’t returning them yet. Circle Up and hold the rock in a squat position (Al Gore sort of). Each Pax does 10 rows, next starting at 5 count. Rinse and Repeat x 3.

Return the rocks and mosey back to the VSF for the COT. Count off, Name-O-Rama, Announcements, Intentions, and closed with a prayer to the Sky Q.

Thanks for posting with me today. It was a pleasure to lead.

  • Fueled By The Fallen and Fight Songs

Sat am @ The Muscleship, met at The Foundry for one last hurrah with Meter’s 43. Started off with a quick warmup, then payed respect to fallen Mandeville officer Capt. Vince Liberto, who we dedicated the workout to in “HERO” fashion.

IRON PAX CHALLENGE – WEEK 3

    ACCUMULATED REP SCORING

    10 PULL UPS

    15 BURPEE BLOCK JUMP OVERS

    20 BLOCK CURLS

    25 BLOCK SQUAT THRUSTER

    30 GAS PUMPS (REVERSE CRUNCH)

RINSE AND REPEAT FOR 43 MINUTES

Finished with some stretching, yoga-like stuff, and planking. COT, BOM, with prayer courtesy of War Eagle.

One week left, let’s finish strong!

  • Thank you USMC Joey Bovia!

    Introduction to USMC Joey Bovia

Sgt. Joseph “Joey” Bovia, USMC, was a native of Metairie, Louisiana.  He served in the Marine Corps for six years.  Sgt. Bovia volunteered for two deployments to Iraq and his last deployment to Afghanistan.  He was the leader of a combat engineering platoon and was building an outpost to protect an elementary school in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when his unit was attacked by insurgents.  Sgt.  Bovia was killed in action on August 31, 2010, in the name of freedom and protection.

On August 31, 2019, 10 men of F3 (including FNG Complicated) converged at Muscleship to pay tribute to this hometown hero through a workout, on the 9th anniversary of his sacrifice, created by Sgt. Bovia’s fellow Marines. Sgt. Bovia’s mom was notified of the F3 tribute and she sent her deepest gratitude to the men of F3.  Sgt. Bovia’s mom was assured Joey’s sacrifice would not be forgotten. She expressed her greatest fear is people forgetting Joey.

    Warm up

After an introduction to USMC Joey Bovia, we left the flag and took a slow mosey over to The Foundry to warm up.

Once there, Hokie Pokey solicited assistance from @SOGO for Warm Ups as SOGO has not held his VQ yet.

31 SSH, 8 Merkins, 8 Hill Billies and 8 Arm Circles Forward and Backward for the Warm up

The Tribute ~ 8 stations 31 reps “plus bonus burpees ;-)” in teams of 2 split between 5 stations and then rotating through the 8 stations

    • Hand Release Merkins
    • Low Slow Squats
    • Pull ups with FULL extension at bottom
    • Alabama Ass Kickers
    • Floyd Mayweathers
    • Dips ensuring you get DEEP into the dip
    • Lunges (stepping way out front and getting the back knee down)
    • Mule Kicks (possibly being renamed Sunday Mornings)
    • PLUS we started and ended with 5 burpees and 3 burpees at each transition … 7 transitions x 3 = 21 +5 +5 = 31

There was leftover time so we added some bonuses of planks while our partner ran to the track and back. We concluded by moseying back to the fountain in front of NOMA for step ups and then closing with a circle of 8 minutes of Mary

Thank you Joey Bovia & COT

We closed with our Circle of Trust and once again lifting up RED (Remembering Everyone Deployed) and giving special thanks to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. We also lifted up @Bell Hop and @Rudy’s Dad and all those dealing with cancer! We also lifted up all those dealing with Hurricane Dorian and those traveling this weekend.

We also welcomed our FNG, Steven Arthur with the F3 name of Complicated which is way to complicated for me to explain here.

As always, I thank my F3 brothers for the opportunity to push myself and hopefully aid in each of you pushing yourselves through my attempt to challenge you at your fitness level while still being able to Q.

Thank you USMC Joey Bovia (RIP 08.31.10)
The tribute with 8 stations and 31 reps at each station
  • Jumpin’ Jack Flash

    (Belated Post from 7.12.2019)

We worked out in a crossfire (almost) hurricane. The PAX howled in the drivin’ rain (sprinkle). But it’s all right now…

    Warm Up

Micro mosey over to Grass Sticker Field.

    SSH x 20
    Mountain Climbers x 20
    Imperial Walkers x 20
    Grass Grabbers x 20
    LBCs x 20
    Self Love x 10

    Bear Crawlathon ‘19

Mosey to the power station along the Uptowner track. The mission was to complete a Bear Crawl Indian Run back to the rock pile (wash, rinse, repeat for approx. 1/8 mile) including the following exercises:

    Merkins x 10
    Russian Twist x 10
    Shoulder Taps x 10
    Hello Dolly x 10
    Plank Jacks x 10

Micro mosey back to the flag
    COT
    Numberama
    Namearama
    Announcements
    Prayer

This being YHC’s very first Q, there was a desire not to disappoint. And judging by all of the grumbling, the beatdown at the Uptowner was an unqualified success.

  • Co-Q 12

Earlier in the week Mahatma asked if we could swap Muscleship Q’s. Once I got the clearance from my M on our schedule I gladly swapped. I was then quickly contacted by this week’s Mothership Q and resident LVCC member Kuch. He proposed for a portion of the beatdown we perform some type of competition between PAX. After some back-and-forth on the details, the trash talking began on mumblechatter.

Saturday morning came and 11 men gathered with me at our usual spot, including 1 FNG who came in town from Lake Charles. The resistance bands that would be used were distributed to everyone, the disclaimer was given, and off we ran for a lap around NOMA.

    Warm-up:

    • SSH IC x 20
    • Windmills IC x 10
    • Self love IC x 10
    • Arm circles x 10 fwd, x 10 reverse
    • Imperial squats walkers IC x 15

    Tha Thang #1:

During my last Muscleship Q I had the PAX perform a Tabata routine of shoulder exercises with resistance bands. So back by popular demand we busted out the Tabata with a playlist hand-picked by the Q to avoid any recurrence of DMB or Goo Goo Dolls finding its way in. All exercises performed for 20 sec with 10 sec rest.

    • Single arm shoulder flexion, R then L
    • Airplanes/T’s
    • Bilateral shoulder external rotation
    • Single arm shoulder lateral raises, R then L
    • Biceps curls, R then L
    • Triceps extension, R then L

    Tha Thang #2

After everyone’s shoulders were burning we walked about 5 ft into the grass surrounding the fountain outside NOMA and spread out for planks. Each plank held for 30 seconds.

    • Plank on elbows
    • L side plank
    • R side plank
    • Reverse plank

Unfortunately while we were planking Pearl Jam was almost done playing “Alive” when my bluetooth speaker proved to be dead. So we only made it through 2 of the songs on the playlist. Oh well. Next time I’ll be better prepared.

Next we moved back to the cement and grabbed our bands again.

    • Lateral step with squat IC x 10 reps each leg, band tied around ankles
    • Plank clocks performed in 6-count cadence x 10 reps each arm, band tied around wrists
    • Crunchy planks IC x 10 reps each way; exercise is performed in plank position when you bring your L elbow to your R knee then repeat with R elbow to L knee (exercise inspired by local musician Master P’s hip hop classic “Freak Hoes”)

    Tha Thang #3:

At that point it was time to toss bands in Screw Top’s truck and mosey over to the Foundry for the meet up with the Mothership. Instructions were given, including written instructions courtesy of Kuch. Mothership won the coin toss and chose to run first while Mothership performed the group of exercises.

While Mothership ran 1 loop around the Festival Grounds, each Muscleship PAX performed 25 pulls ups, 50 burpees, and 100 jump lunges (1 is 1). All members of the PAX had to complete said exercises before leaving to run. Once all members completed the routine we proceeded with our run arounf the Festival Grounds. As we ran, Mothership stayed at the Foundry and completed said group of exercises. Sadly Mothership prevailed as they were able to have all members complete the run and exercises before Muscleship. I smell a re-match in the future.

Mosey back to the flag for some static hamstring, figure-4 piriformis, and quad stretching x 15 sec each leg. Count-off, name-o-rama, annoucements, intentions, sweaty ball of man. Welcome FNG Madoff from Lake Charles! As usual it was a pleasure to lead everyone and will look forward to my next Q.

  • Becoming a cone-oisseur

    Becoming a cone-oisseur

YHC hasn’t been posting nearly as much as he should, and there may have been a chance for a fartsack this day as well, except that Mambi was on IR, and unable to Q his long awaited One Year Maniversary Epic Beatdown! When YHC was asked if he would take the Q, seeing as YHC was the Q for Mambi’s first post, it sealed the deal. What did the Mothership beat down comprise of this day you ask? Read on…..

YHC arrived a few minutes early and prepared the parking lot for a fine tasting beat down with a few cones.

12 veteran men of F3 were prepared to make a downPAINment on improving this day, so YHC provided a brief disclaimer at 0630, stating that he hoped to make Mambi proud, followed by lots of mumblechatter, which would have been far worse with Rudy present, followed by a short mosey to the Great Lawn……..

    Warmup

    SSH IC x 31
    IW IC x 20
    Abe Vigodas IC x 10
    Grass Grabbers IC x 10
    Arm Circles IC x 20 (10 fwd, 10 back)
    Peter Parkers IC x 20
    Mountain Climbers IC x 20
    Parker Peters IC x 20
    'Merkins IC x 20

Short mosey to the parking lot with the cones for Suicides! Set up like a Basket Ball court:

Sprint to quarter line and back, 5 Burpees
Sprint to half line and back, 5 Burpees
Sprint to 3/4 line and back, 5 Burpees
Sprint full court and back, 5 Burpees
Repeato with Squats for round two, followed by Bobby Hurley's
    for Round three.

YHC had the men count off. Instead of choosing partners, YHC had 1 partner with 3, 2 with 4, 5 with 7, etc, for a little Dora 123….

    50 Burpees
    150 'Merkins
    300 LBC's
Partner 1 starts the exercise, while partner 2 runs suicides
(just like above with no exercise).
    Flapjack and keep cumulative.
Once your team finishes, partner 1 continues with suicides
while partner 2 does Burpees, waiting for the six.
No easy plank and wait today.....

Mosey to the fountain at NOMA, Freak Nasties IC x 20.

Mosey to the Trail around the Big Lagoon for Bataan Death March! It’s an Indian Run where the last man drops for 5 Burpees and sprints to the front. It was during this time The Mothership crew spotted the men of the Muscleship! But our crew was busy with a beat down, no time to stand around in a circle and chat as they were……

Upon completion of the Bataan Death March, mosey back to the tree line near NOMA, near the Muscleship flags for some Burpees and Bear Crawls….

Starting at the first tree, bear crawl to second tree, 5 Burpees,
bear crawl back to first tree, 5 Burpees.  Rinse and Repeat.

About the time The Mothership crew were finishing up this latest evolution, sweating profusely from the solid beat down, the Muscleship crew arrived. It was no Burr vs Hamilton, or the likes of Westside Story. But YHC took the opportunity to face away from their circle, and in a line with sixes toward the Muscleship crew, completed Monkey Humpers IC x 15. It was pretty Epic…….

Before departing the Muscleship Crew, a couple minutes of Mary:

    Dying Cockroach IC x 20
    Crunchy Frog IC x 10

Mosey back to the Great Lawn

    Just enough time for:
    10 Burpees OYO
Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10

Mosey back to the flag for the COT

Count off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and closed with a prayer to the Sky Q.

Thanks for posting with me today, and for allowing me to be one of you. Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery, Mambi!

Enjoyed coffeteria, where Hawgcycle made an appearance with Mike from Morning Call! Good times!!!
