  • Northshore at The NOLA Mothership

With the Northshore convergence taking place, YHC wasn’t sure how many Pax would post to the Mothership.  Expecting a large presence on the NS, YHC was surprised to find 25 Pax gathered around the 4 shovel flags.  YHC was very happy to see 3 FNG’s post, keep up the EH’ing!

YHC decided it would be a good idea to dedicate the Mothership beat down to the Northshore in honor of their 2 year convergence.  Since the NS was planning a beat down that would visit each AO, YHC created one as well, with more of a virtual visit to each AO.  0630, so time for the disclaimer, then….

Mosey to the Great Lawn for the Warmup.  The Pax will begin and end at the Mothership….

    SSH IC x 31
Imp Sq Walkers IC x 10
    10 Burpees OYO

With the warmup complete, the Pax took a virtual bike ride to the first AO…

    Milestone Marsh

YHC read a BB that had Waterpik doing suicides on the basketball court, so cones were set up to resemble a court for:

    Burpee Suicides
Start at base line, sprint to first line, then back to base line for 5 Burpees
Sprint to half court and back to baseline for 5 Burpees
Sprint to 3rd line and back for 5 burpees
Sprint full court and back for 5 Burpees

The Pax mount their virtual bikes for a ride to the next AO….

    Grandmothers House

YHC read a BB where Pelican, Shooter, and Ocho did some 11’s. Using the first and last row of cones…
10 merkins first row, 1 Bobby Hurley last row
9 merkins first row, 2 Bobby Hurley last row
Continue until 1 merkin and 10 Bobby Hurleys.

The Pax mount their virtual bikes for a ride to the next AO…

    The Gipper

Turbo seems to like sprints, based upon his BB. Using the cones again….
Sprint from first row to last row, and complete 5 burpees, then slow mosey back.
Sprint from first row to third row, then some exercise, 5 merkins maybe…slow mosey back
Sprint from first row to second row, then maybe 5 squats, slow mosey back….
Sprint to last row again, and collect cones on the way back.

The Pax mount their virtual bikes for a quick ride to the next AO…

    City Hall Scramble

Apparently Bushwacker likes to do a 5k run with Burpees and merkins, according to the BB…..
The Pax did a modified 5k run, stopping near Morning Call for 10 Burpees OYO. The Pax continued to the open lawn
near NOMA where they enjoyed a round of:
Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10 (YHC had to fit them in)
Continue on to the NOMA fountain for:
    Freak Nasties IC x 20

The Pax mount their virtual bikes for a short ride to the next AO…

    Captains Cove

Captain Sparkles really likes to run…..seriously, he has a running AO named after him….that’s cool!

This AO is a 10k run, which the Pax did a modified version…
Line up in two columns on the path that goes around Lagoon Number 7 for:
    Bataan Death March!
An Indian Run where the last Pax drops for 5 Burpees, then sprints to the front. Each Pax got to do a set, which took us one lap around the lagoon.

The Pax mount their virtual bikes to ride to the final NS AO…

    The Lakefront

Steve had a BB where there was some bearcrawls and 8 Count Body Builders…nice
    8 Count Body Builders IC x 10
line up at first tree, bear crawl to third tree for 5 Burpees OYO
    Bear Crawl to 5th tree
    Merkins IC x 10 (4 count)

    Mary

    Flutter Kicks IC x 20
    Hello Dolly IC x 20
    Rosalitas IC x 20
Tins Snips aka Egg Beaters IC x 20
    American Hammer IC x 20
    LBC’s IC x 20

The Pax mount their virtual bikes and head back to the Mothership Flags, but with a 6:29 arrival, the Pax had time for a quick mosey to the Great Lawn for:
    10 Burpees OYO

    Mosey to the Flags

    COT
    Count Off, Name-O-Rama.
3 FNG’s joined us this day and were brought into the F3 Brotherhood. Welcome Mambi (He’s a hunter, said he harvested Bambi’s brother), Wolverine, an Ohio State alumni, and Recall, who does something with food and beverage.
Intentions, and closed with a prayer.

Great coffeteria was enjoyed by all that stayed.

YHC hopes you enjoyed this tribute to our NS brethren. YHC will make it back up there before long.

Thanks for posting with me today, and for pushing me.

It’s the little things that matter. After the 8 Count Body Builders at the Lakefront AO, YHC was about wiped out. Walleye apparently noticed, and he gave YHC some words of encouragement that proved enough to take it to the finish line. We push each other to improve and to succeed, taking our bodies farther than we thought they could go. That’s F3.
Remember, F3 is an organization of leaders, not an organization with leaders. If you haven’t signed up to Q yet, get your name on the signup sheet.

  • R.E.D Friday – The Collin Hero WOD

    Conditions:  Overcast and 61.

Perfect morning to get some work in.  I showed up about 12 minutes early to find Hand Grenada had beaten me to the AO.  He helped me set up the “equipment” for today’s Hero WOD.  (Thanks to Triple Shift for the buckets of water he stashed by the pumps and thanks to Jefferson Parish for not removing said buckets).

In all, 8 men posted this morning to pay tribute to our service men and women deployed around the world.  We were honored to have two Veterans with us – Mahatama and Kimchi.  Thank you for your service.

    Warm-up

    SSH x 31; Peter Parker x 31; Windmills x 15; Forward Arm Circles x 15; Morocan Night Club (sans squat) x 15; Backward Arm Circles x 15

The Thang – Collin Hero WOD

The goal is 6 rounds in 35 minutes.  Push yourself to do more than that.

    • 400 meter Rock Carry – Use a rock between 20 and 30 pounds
    • 12 Push Press – Use a rock between 40 and 60 pounds
    • 12 Box Jumps – Can be modified to step ups
    • 12 Sumo Deadlift Hi-Pulls – Use Bucket full of water

Impressive performances all around.  Mahatma, the unofficial king of R.E.D Friday workouts, got in 8 rounds.  Kimchi and YHC got in 7, All others got in 6 more or less.

    • T-claps to Abacus for wearing Red to R.E.D. Friday.  The man gets it.
    • T-claps to HVAC for not only getting in some running before the workout, but timing his pre-thang run so that it ended exactly at 0530
    • T-claps to Hand Grenada for posting consistently since Walley EH’d him (and for not parking illegally).
    • T-claps to Kimchi for coming out on his day off – he’s worked 14 straight 12 hour days or 12 straight 14 hour days…I’m not sure, but either way it’s hard.
    • T-claps to Abacus, Two Yutes, and Rev Sox.  Their consistency and growth is impressive.
    • And T-claps to Mahatma for being a beast and pushing us all.  When I grow up I want to be like him.

  • Double Dir-TAYY Mac Deuce

Pre-Thang:  Weather was awesome 70-ish with the temp, a little humid but nothing crazy.  Ground was wet from Friday rains – perfect for something on your six.

My first workout ever with OBT was a Dirty MacDeuce.  It makes me happy every time.  Happy in an I hate you but I love you kind of way.  So on past Saturdays I have often done a regular old Dirty MacDeuce.  I have done other things — Rounds with Tyson, 11’s, the Route 66, the baseball diamond, deck of death, etc but I have always loved the total body workout given by a MacDeuce.  So I wanted to one up it – and I Q’d a Double Dirty Mac.

The Thang:  Mosey to the big Quad.  Here we did a SSH x 20, Merks x 20, Imperial Walker Squats x 20, Low SLow Squats x 20.

LOOOONG Mosey to the track.  Through some puddles.  Tried to go around then at some point it was too much so we just went through the muck.

Once at the track we did some LBCs just to rest from the long Mosey.  Then we went straight into the DMac.

Lap with backwards run at the end — Circle we did:  Staggered Merks, Roaches, Reg Squats x 12

Lap with kerioke at the end —  Circle we did:  Staggered Merks – Right, Freddie Merks, Lunge x 12

Lap with butt kicks at the end — Circle we did:  Diamond Merks, Iron Cross, Lunges to the side x 12

Lap with high skips at the end — Circle we did:  Plank Walk, Pickle Pounders, Lunge backwards x 12

Started to worry about time so the 2nd mac deuce we had to double up all exercises.

First lap Indian Run.  Second lap on your own.

We did x 24 Mat Jumps (had to make up 4 at the end), Russian Twists, and Shoulder Taps

2 full laps – at your own pace

We did x 24 Hip Dips, x 24 Nolan Ryans, x 24 Low Country Crab

We did it!  With 5 min to the buzzer and mumblechatter holding my feet to the fire about the “time email”  we walked to the street and ran to the flag.

We arrived at exactly 730am.  Good job men.   We logged 3.6 miles.

Rudy arrived from his LONG run just in time for the Circle

Immediately after I couldn’t stay for coffee – I had to hustle to the 504k race.

COT:  For Splash.  For friends who are sick.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • Welcome to 2018 and an ND victory

2018 arrived at 5:30 am with a brisk wind and below freezing temps.  Lovely start to the new year.  YHC arrived early to make sure his Notre Dame banners were hung with bride, to welcome the LSU faithful to the new year.  First hulking shadow figure to appear, dressed in full Marlin-cold-weather gear was Kim Chi sporting an outer layer LSU sweatshirt.  Then Triple Shift, wearing neutral colors.  Finally 2 more LSU fans showed up – welcome Amnesty and Heisenberg.  Everyone decked in the finest winder wonderland gear.  A disclaimer, then lets get started.

    Burpees and Body Builders

Notre Dame has won 6, LSU has won 5.  Start by going through each of the 11 games, with a ladder: adding 1 burpee for each ND victory (1970, 1981, 1984, 1997, 1998, 2013) and 1 8-count-body-builder for each LSU victory (1971, 1985, 1986, 1997, 2007).  The 6 Burpee vs 5 8-Count will show up again….

    Warm Up

Mosey to the normal spot by the rocks for our warm-up

    • SSH x25
    • Windmill x15
    • IW x25
    • 6 Burpees, 5 8-Count

    Then plank-time:

    • PP x25
    • FM x25
    • PP x25
    • ST x25

Go find a rock, and mosey to the football field.  YHC noted that Triple Shift seems to look for a larger rock each Monday.

    BLIMPS

Start at the goal line for BLIMPS.  Since its a Burpee exercise, lets stick with the “6 Burpees for Notre Dame Victory” theme:

    • 6 Burpees, 12 Lunges, 18 IW, 24 Merkins, 30 PlankJacks, 36 Squats (all con-rocca), advancing 20 yards for each exercise

Al Gore for the 6 (unnamed PAX who chose to carry Gibraltar)

Now we’re at the far end of the field.  Lets BLIMPS back, using the “5 8-Counts for LSU Victory” theme:

    • 5 8-Count, 10 Lunges, 15 IW, 20 Merkins, 25 PJs, 30 Squats (all con-rocca)

Plan for the 6 (left to the reader to ponder which PAX was the 6)

    Playground

Head to the playground where all PAX got to enjoy YHC’s new Christmas present, courtesy of the in-laws: Battle Rope.  5 Stations, 1 for each PAX

    • Burpees (15 of ’em, the count)
    • Toss-the-rocks over the fence
    • Crunches
    • Pull Ups
    • Battle Ropes!!!

Time to get through one complete round.  Mosey back to the rock pile to dispose of our friends.  Then Mosey back to the flag for a quick round of Mary:

    • FK x25
    • Penguin x25
    • Cockroach x25

Close with 6 Burpees and 5 8-Count (for a total of 54 burpees and 30 8-Count).  Heisenberg chose to close with 6 8-Counts presuming a victory later today.  YHC chose to close with a 7th burpee.

Close with Countoff (5 brave PAX standing strong against the wind and cold), Name-o-rama (Amnesty and Heisenberg gunning for the big Respect in 2018), and close with prayers.

Yesterday, the homily at mass was about family: celebrate the importance of it, and remind us all to respect, love and cherish our family.  YHC is thankful for the many families he is a part of: his own, his Ms, the F3 family, and others.

Finished off with coffee at Morning Call with Mike – and some very enjoyable conversation and F2 with the PAX.  Thanks for a great start to 2018!
