  • Some are twice the men of others at the Gipper!

QIC arrived at the AO with the welcoming of 2 PAX. Turbo and Einstein who are just as loyal as the Ronald Reagan statue, which stands at attention welcoming all who journey to the home we call the Gipper on Wednesday gloom’s.. The sound of gravel and the closing of doors soon produce 3 more men. Low and behold it’s the Ocho arriving with an (FNG), soon to be named twice the man of his own stature. Welcome to the PAX Sweet Sixteen. Not sure how the Maverick times it out so perfectly, maybe he has an app for the timing of the row of lights on 190 that always seem to slow the QIC for his arrival. The high humidity would soon be assisting on this beatdown with perspiration to make the QIC look like a fitness guru.. Enough rambling, quick disclaimer so let’s get after it..

    warmarama

Next we sprint up as a PAX to the first ramp and Caricoa across the flats sprint up the second and Caricoa across the top flat rotating legs of course for a balance of sorts. • Super Bowl Saturday

A little foreplay, a short disclaimer and then off to the races this morning on Super Bowl Saturday.

52 reps of Seal Jacks, Mountain Climbers and Imperial Walkers, all in cadence, for a warmup.

Mosey to the first COP for:

10 count Al Gore, 10 copperhead squats, and 10 vertical jumps.

10 count Mission Impossible, 10 slow Merkins, and 10 Northshore (plyo) Merkins.

10 count balance on right leg, 10 slow pistol squats right leg, and 10 right leg hops.  Rinse and repeat on the left leg.

10 count isometric lunge with the right foot forward, 10 slow lunges, and 10 half Sister Mary Katherines.  Rinse and repeat with the left leg forward.

    Mosey to the Main Event:

The PAX set up a field approximately 30 yards x 30 yards and then separated into two teams, one donning wifebeaters left over from the Krazy Ivan.  Two teams, one football and an old fashioned game of keep away that reminded us all of our 12 year old selves.  Liberal sprinkling of Merkins, burpees, vertical jumps and star jumps every incomplete pass.  Not exactly Eagles v Patriots although some previously undisclosed skills were revealed by the wheezing PAX.

Mosey back to the Shovel Flag for Mary:

Scuba Steves, plank right leg pulses, plank left leg pulses, flutter kicks, and dynamic side planks both sides all 52x IC.

Countorama, nameorama, and Chewy prayed us out on our way to the coffeeteria.

Fun time this morning guys.  Thanks for being such great sports and letting me lead.

    Moleskin

T claps to the 10 Northshore PAX participating in the Run Ranger Run February challenge.  As of this writing, Team Northshore sits in 21st place on the national leaderboard with 83 running miles logged since Tuesday.  Let’s keep up the momentum men.

  • Back to the Farm

This morning’s beat down was never going to compete with yesterday’s star studded event.  Reading Steve’s BB on his way out the door to the Gipper, YHC grudgingly conceded to himself that the likes of Choppa, Ocho, and Nacho Libre could not be expected to rise out of their fartsacks for two consecutive mornings.  It could have happened, YHC guesses, if Turtle had committed to back to back Qs.  Lacking the draw of a rock star Q like Turtle, however, YHC could only hope that he wouldn’t be posting alone. Fortunately there were a few PAX out there unaware of yesterday’s celebrity meetup, but YHC wasn’t too off in his prediction as Gipper regular Tanked Up regrettably decided he would not post with the rank and file this morning.  Et tu, Tanked Up?

So it was to be a working man’s beat down this morning, strictly meat and potatoes.

15 minutes or so of dynamic stretches on the train platform then a short mosey to pick up a couple of half filled sand bags for the main event:

AMRAP for 20 minutes:  35 yards farmer’s walk with both sand bags, 35 yards run, and then 35 yards backpedal making up one round.  Shooter carried his sand bags like bean bags, and the rest of us struggled.  Good thing we all have office jobs…except for Bushwacker I guess but he is in lawn care management.

Back to the Trailhead for Mary:  scorpions, swan preps, jackknives, and flutter Freddy Mercury’s, all IC.

Countorama, nameorama, and Moby prayed us out.

Thanks for letting me lead men.  I always look forward to Wednesday morning at the Gipper with you.

  • A Mild Morning at the Mothership

T-Claps to Butt Splice for continuing to bring out the FNG’s – producing not one, but two on this balmy 41° morning.  And in turn, t-claps to FNG The Clap for convincing fellow FNG Phooey that he was attending some sort of outdoor bible study group in workout clothes.  Hey, whatever it takes.

Now you know that things have warmed up around here when everyone goes back to ordering iced coffees at coffeteria.  The cold front that brought temperatures down to a record 16° at The Gipper on Wednesday have hardened our PAX, and typical winter Louisiana weather now seems downright cozy.  So off with the knit caps and the Driving Miss Daisy gloves (Tanked Up!), and down to business:

Warm Up: SSH, Seal Jacks, Windmills, IW’s, Good Mornings, Mummy Kicks, High Knees, Butt Kicks. Then mosey East to circle up for…

COP: Holding plank, the PAX performed: Mountain Climbers, Peter Parkers, MC’s, Shoulder Taps, MC’s, all 20x IC, followed by 10x Merkins OYO.  Quick rest, before:

Round 2: MC’s, Parker Peters, MC’s, Plank Jacks, 20x IC, followed by 20x Merkins OYO.  Recover and mosey to the Lakefront Playground for….

Partner Routine 1: P1 does 20x Big Boy Sit-ups followed by 20x Merkins continuously while…

P2 starts at Pad 1 with 20x LBC’s, then crab walks to Pad 2 for 20x Plank Jacks, bear crawls to Pad 3 for 20x Squat Jumps, then bunny hops to the start.  Partners flapjack until each has done 3 rounds.

Partner Routine 2: P1 does Lt. Dans down the stretch, sprints back, while P2 does Burpees.  Switcheroo.  If you need instructions on the lunge-to-squat ratio for Lt. Dans, ask Maverick, I think he went to a fancy New Orleans school.  And if you need to know why shots of Cuervo the night before an F3 workout might not be a great idea, ask Phooey.  (Though to his credit, he was unaware of what he was getting into this morning, and was somehow able to finish without splashing merlot.  An impressive feat.)

Then a Double Applesauce Bataan Death March back to the flag for…

Mary: Putins 25x IC, Leg Raises 15x IC, Crunchy Frogs 12x IC.

Countdown, nameorama, naming of the FNG’s, and…. hey, who shows up, but EiEi – just in time for free coffee and to plug his event, The Krazy Ivan.  Tanked Up sent us out to coffeteria with a great prayer.   Thanks gents for a great start to the weekend, it’s always a pleasure to lead this group.  And hey, wash your tank tops, dust off that ushanka, do what you need to do, but whatever you do – show up tonight.  The Ivan is finally here and our honor rests in your hands.

  • Return at the Gipper

Returning to the Gipper on this Gloom without the beanies and mittens also produced the return of Grundy and Moby from IR. Welcome back F3 brothers. While the PAX on the the Northshore have many AOs to choose, if your QIC had a choice of only (1) F3 beatdown  by far the Gipper would be the selection.., As hard as the QIC try’s to tax these men when he leads, it never fails that his mission seems incomplete as the men always impress and crave more of what they came for..

    Warmarama

    15IC GM, WM, IW

    30 IC SSH, BK

10 IC Arm circles (forward/reverse), Overhead claps

    The thang

Moseyed  to the Taj Mahal for our first bit of action. Circled the flag pole with the PAX holding blank while each man journeyed up the steps dropped for 2 Burpees and returned. Covered regular plank as well as left and right plank until complete. Next each PAX bear crawled to the flag pole and after the ringing of the qong was sounded each PAX would complete 2 Merkins. The QIC doubled the Merkins halfway through.. Wrapped up and then moseyed to the garage top. Partnered up for the first round of suicides half and full distance while the other did LBCs. Next was Caricoas half left and half right and the same back while the other man did Bicycles, and finally we did back pedal half and turn and sprint while the others did flutter kicks..  Mixed in a few 10 counts as the QIC noticed he may have winded a few men, which on this day is a proud moment for anyone Qing this group… Next on to Tabata (American style) as one stated standard Tabata as 20 sec of work and 10 sec rest. The Q implemented 30 sec work and 10 sec rest for 2 rounds. Round 1 Merikins/Plankjacks and Round 2 Squats/Imperial walkers.. If one ever thinks 30 sec of Work can’t get you pumped or have the sweat flowing, I challenge you to a series of Tabata and promise there will be no disappointment.. With 3 mins to spare moseyed back to AO for countarama, annoucarama, COT.

Much respect for the men working through injuries and pain on this Gloom. Shows the dedication and determination, which inspires me to work harder at each beatdown.. 👊👊

Special thanks to Grundy for praying us out..

  • 7 COOL DUDES

“temperature wise that is, not demeanor”

6 Pax showed up on time
1 Pax showed up late AGAIN. I won’t mention his name. But he likes to sidle-up.

I was reminded of my university P.E. class, taught by the basketball coach. The DIV I basketball players would always straggle in late.
The coach would admonish them, “three tardies equal one absence, and one absence equals a tardy.”
As a “C” student, I could only look around, to see if anyone else was confused by that, shrug my shoulders, and wonder how different things would be if I were 6 foot, eleven.

Anyways…time to jump on the Polar Express. To the best of my recall, here is how it went

    short disclaimer …

    warmup
all 20xIC; side straddle hops, good-mornings, windmills, imperial walkers, toe touches, butt-kicks, hillbillies, arm circles, single leg lunges, squats, mummy kicks

mosey to Bedrock; pick up a 10 pound, coarse crystalline texture, gray, limited porosity and permeability, limestone boulder.
all 20xIC; curls, overhead presses, rows, outward presses

mosey to the front of the Taj Mahal for the MERKIN HONOR ROLL
here we have lots of brick pavers, each with a name and date, honoring former St.Tammany Parish school board employees.
circle up at the flagpole outer ring
one pax, at a time, bearcrawls in toward the flagpole to a brick, reads the name and from the last two digits of the date, chooses the higher number and this dictates the number of merkins for the PAX to do.
for example if the brick reads “Joe Joblotz 1930-1967.” We call out Joblotz,Joblotz,… while doing 7 merkins. That pax bearcrawls out. The next pax bearcrawls in, reads the stats off his brick and we merkin to the stat, repeat with each pax taking a turn.
We got in a lot of merkins, bear crawling, and planking, to keep us warm.

mosey to the St.Tammany Parish Courthouse promenade
In forward motion; One Burpee, Two Burpees, Three Burpees, Four Burpees, then up the steps, down the ramp, down the block and around. Repeat four times.
Then to the benches for 20xIC dips, 20xIC step-ups

Indian Run back to the trail head

    mary
    20xIC flutter kicks
    20xIC Jane Fondas

count-o-rama, prayer led by THE MANNY

Thanks guys, for showing up on this cold day!
