    Louisiana Fast

YHC had dreams of a legendary AO at the Fight Club in Kenner, alas his inability to EH guys over to Kenner resulted in one too many solo workouts, so he is shifting gears and moving this Wednesday workout from LaSalle Landing to Lafreniere Park. So Metairie, Kenner, and River Ridge Pax – sign up to lead Popeyes on the Q schedule.

    Warm-up

YHC led the Pax on a mosey past the large gazebo in the middle of the park for a standard warm-up

    SSH – 25

    Annies – 20

    Plank Jacks – 20

    Inch worm – 20

    Leg Stuff

YHC led the Pax on a short mosey back to the starting location for some leg exercises on the wall.

    Channing Tatums – 20

    Box Jumps – 10

    Tatum Channings – 20

    Incline Merkins – 10

Repeat with reps at 15, 10, and 5 for the Channing Tatums while Box jumps went from 10 to 7 to 5 and merkins remained at 10

    Global Warming

The forecast called for temps of 36 degrees with windchills in the 20s. YHC assumed this would be the coldest hour of the year for New Orleans which is the right time for some Global Warming. God was good and the temps were in the low 40s, but the Pax still did two rounds of Global Warming.

Circle up with everyone in the Al Gore position. One Pax starts the round with 2 burpees and we follow in sequence. Round two was 5 merkins. Each round consisted of 3 trips around the circle. Tclaps to the Pax for clapping on the burpee jump and shouting out their merkin count.

    The Real Mountain Climbers

Popeyes is the home to fast Louisiana fried chicken and good hills for F3 workouts. YHC broke us into the hills with some real mountain climbers. Three hills are lined up in a good order or running up and down so the Pax ran up to the top of the first hill, got down on their face for a 30 count of mountain climbers, down the hill and back up the next for more mountain climbers. We went up and down 3 hills on the first round and up and down 4 hills on the second round.

    The Apparatus

Popeyes not only has good biscuits but also two sets of outdoor workout equipment. The Pax moseyed over to one set and everyone picked an apparatus to climb on for a brief workout. The Pax doing pull-ups was the count at 5 pull-ups to switch to the next apparatus. The Pax completed two rounds and moseyed back to the start for some Mary.

    Mary

    Flutterkicks – 16

    Penguins – 20

    O Dolly – 20

    The Close

Count off, Name-o-rama, announcements, and intentions. Closed in Prayer

Join us at Popeyes at Lafreniere Park on Wednesdays for a beatdown that promises to bring a good variety of exercises.

  • Bayou Barathon Warm-up

Six of F3’s finest gathered for an evening workout this Wednesday to sharpen our bodies (and livers) in preparation for the upcoming barathon.  For many of us that typically run in the morning, YHC finds it helpful to occasionally get in some runs later in the day as to be that much more ready for any night races.  Since a plain old 45 min run can often be lackluster and split up the group, YHC thought we’d mix it up a bit.  The goal was to get in at least 3 miles , broken up with some other cardio, a little mary, and maybe even down a beer or two to get ready for next Fri.  YHC informed the PAX that we’d be making some of this up on the fly since this AO has some uncharted territory and we wanted to keep the ice chest within reach.  Here’s what we did:

Quick COP for warmup: SSH x15, Windmill x15, IW x10

Then an Indian Run straight down the Lafitte Greenway to Broad St, which was 1/2 mile.  We were all able to stay with the pack and make it there in a 8:20 pace.

Burpees x10 with lots of curious onlookers driving by.

Then, a 1/2 mile run back to base at your own pace, once back, turn around and run back to sweep the six and finish up together.

From there, a mosey down the other side of LG with a pit stop in the grass for:

    • Partner Plank Slaps x50, 5 Burpees
    • Partner Plank Slaps x40, 4 Burpees
    • Partner Plank Slaps x30, 3 Burpees
    • Partner Plank Slaps x20, 2 Burpees
    • Partner Plank Slaps x10, 1 Burpee

More moseying down LG with some backpedaling thrown in for good measure.  Then back to the ice chest for a 90 second hydration break including Miller High Life and Aquafina.

From there, we headed over Bayou St. John for two loops on the paved area, totaling approx .75 miles.

Back to base again for quick hydration and a few LBCs before returning back to the LG for the finale.  YHC was thinking we’d finish up with a partner run and bear crawl circuit but quickly realized after one round that the stickers in the grass along with the hot asphalt were not conducive to an enjoyable bear crawl.  We switched gears to a run OYO down and back on the LG for the last 9 minutes to cap off the first F.  Total distance covered was approx 3.43+/- miles.

COT to seal the deal and then some good F2 on the neutral ground as we continued to hydrate.  T-claps to Heisenberg for bringing the champagne of beers.  Bayou Beer Garden was calling our name so we made our way to the back deck for some additional F2.  T-claps to Da Parish for inviting his buddy Zack and T-claps to Gabrielle for joining us to help solve all the world’s problems.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead and thanks for bearing with YHC as we got through an unconventional workout.  Hopefully those that posted will now be able to knock out 6 miles, 6 beers, and 6 bars with no problem.

  • Jackson Day Race CSAUP

The GLOOM was glorious in beautiful downtown Arabi.  7 Brave PAX traveled near and far to a new race route for the 111th Jackson Day 9K race.  This new route involved historic Arabi, comfy asphalt road as racers traveled from Arabi to Chalmette, and then a lap around the Chalmette Battlefield, Home of the Battle of New Orleans.   Some PAX improved, some PAX did not; but every PAX finished respectfully and earned their Jambalaya Girl and cold beers.  There was even a guest appearance by Belloq as he is on the Board for NOTC.  PAX results below.  Link listed for full results.  Don’t forget to update your 2018 NYR.  Apologies to Sogo & Cavalier, YHC does not know their real names.

Thanks for coming to St. Bernard, SYITG

Moleskin:  Here is a history lesson of exactly what took place on January 8, 1815.  If it were not for the Chalmations defeating the British, we’d all be speaking English.
