  • Mr. Anderson’s On the Clock

With a high of 59, 20% chance of rain and breezy, the forecast promised an invigorating and intense Saturday beat down. But instead, morning rain, still, humid air and Jose 10K helped deliver and invigorating and intense Saturday beat down!

    PRE THANG

The usual pre-thang suspects gathered at the usual pre-thang time to run the usual pre-thang 2 miles. T-claps to to Waterpik for taking the pre-thang red pill, despite a scheduling conflict for the beat down proper.

    WARM O RAMA

    x20 IC:

    SSH

    Imperial Walkers

    Butt Kicks

    Slow Squats

    Cherry Pickers

    Arm Circles (10>, 10<)

    THANG

The newly spoken-for King of the Pre-Thang and this month’s current ISI crusader Jose` 10K joined YHC for his VQ, and the baton was now passed his way. The PAX mosied to the Marsh for 10K’s very own On the Clock. 12 stations were set up in a circle, including merkins, jump squats, LBCs, putins, shoulder taps, lateral jumps over cones, soccer ball taps (rocky balboas), peter parkers, plank jacks, and 3 others. moving from station to station, round 1 was 41 seconds each, round 2 was 30 seconds each.

Pax mosied down Larmarque back to the lakefront where we split into 2 teams for 4 rounds of sloppy tug-of-war. Winners got to pick from 2 options for the losers’ penalty exercise while they planked. There was a “HALF-assed” 100 yard bear crawls, 25 burpees, 50 mountain climbers, and 100 LBCs.

After the last round, we mosied back to the flag all holding on to the battle rope for the last 2 minutes.

    MARY

With 2 minutes to spare, Jose lead the PAX in a quick round of righ and left side jane fondas.

    COT

Count off and name-o-rama, before Pastor Grundy prayed us out. Congrats to Jose 10K for poppin’ his cherry! It was a great beatdown, and we look forwards to more opportunities to experience his leadership.

    POST SCRIPT

Of course, a proper back blast would not be complete without special mentions of Zoolander’s kilt…will it make another appearance tonight?

    THE WARM UP

All exercises done IC, or in cadence-ish. YHC’s counts were so far off, it was a miracle the assembled PAX didn’t disband then and there.

    • Seal jacks X15
    • Toe touches X10
    • Abe Vigodas X10
    • Copper Head squats X10
    • Steve Earles Copper head squat finished with hill billy X 10

THE THANG PART 1: 3/4 Dab

Pax moseyed around the block and returned to the bus stop to get to work. Daylight savings time had Q’s thoughts muddled so YHC picked a nice simple beatdown to use for this circumstance. We ran through a modified version of the Dab a.k.a. series of 10 burpees done EMOM style. At the risk of getting monotonous with all 4 rounds total burpees, YHC trimmed the sequence to a nice compact, block of 150 burpees.

THE THANG PART 2: One leg at a time

    -Marios
    -Single leg wife pleases
    -Single leg split squats
    -Reverse table tops
    -Ham string bridge

Thanks F3-bros, for the fellowship, the beatdowns and for being willing to follow my lead.

  • Runners of the Scramble

With recent Scrambles producing mixed groups of eight in a half, some nine min milers and the occasional quarter to ten/ten min milers this Gloom showed out a heap of runners.. 5 PAX assembled at the flag for the start of this day.. Mild mid 40s gave the PAX a spring in their step or is it the fact that day light savings time will soon be gone as we spring forward in time this weekend… The gazelles of this Gloom included the likes of the regular Garfield who always pushes his younger counter parts, along with Chewy and Water Pic as the Q held back another of the gazelles in Zoolander striking conversation early as to not be left behind… Even though the intention was in my favor the PAX pushed YHC from the comforts of his mid 9 min mile to log a respectable mid 8 pace.. Proving one of the many reasons I enjoy posting with this group of brothers to get the King relevant in my own life…

    Warmarama

Good mornings 10 IC, Toe Touches 10 IC, Annie alternating right/left, Hairy Rockettes 10 IC and SSH 10 IC…

    Thang

Assumed positions around the newly acquired workout stations with the fresh aroma of Astro turf rubber filling our nostrils as we took to plank. Each PAX required to complete 10% of the ISI challenge of a 30 sec hold while the rest of us completed Nolan Ryan’s right and left, mission impossible, LMCs (LittleMannyCrunches) and Flutter kicks. Closed with the PAX completing scorpion kicks 15 IC, Ws 3sec hold to 15, a little sprinkle of yoga down dawg stretch and mixing in left/right leg forward inner groin and hip stretches…

Circled up for count off, announcements, COT…

Much appreciation to Water Pic for closing us out with the daily prayer!!

Enjoyed the journey gentlemen ✌🏻 till the next Gloom!!

  • Throw Grandma something, would ya!!

Grandmas house looking for some throws on this Mardi Gras Gloom. Q decided to throw some new trinkets on this day for the dedicated men who decided to post… With a cold 34 degrees and a north wind 💨 YHC arrived to a ghost town at the Trailhead. Not knowing if anyone would post, Qs hopes were quickly lifted as the sight of headlights started rolling in from all directions. PAX quickly swelled to 6 with the late arrival of one masked Bushwacker with only eyes and lips showing..

Circled under the breezeway for the warmup, which consisted of some new exercises not demonstrated by any other PAX to the Qs knowledge. Started with the traditional SSH IC 20, Hillbillies IC 20, Imperial Stormkickers (could not get the cadence) OYO to around 15, Febreze (2:10,4:20,6:30,8:40,10:50) first number big boy sit-up followed by feet 6 inches off the ground with second number air presses, concluded with Donkey Kick-offs (Plank position with kicks to 5 on the pillars with a 5 sec hold, R/R 10 kicks 10 sec hold, 15 kicks 15 sec hold) plenty warm by this point..

    Thang

PAX assembled on Girard street for Four corners Escalator. C-1 10 Burpees, Mosey C-2 10 Burpees 20 Merkins, Mosey C-3 10 Burpees 20 Merkins 30 Mountain Climbers, Mosey C-4 10 Burpees 20 Merkins 30 Mountain Climbers 40 Shoulder taps.. With the sounds of grunts and groans replacing what would surly be the rumbling of tubas and trumpets as if marching down St Charles, Q calls for (2) 10 counts by Steve and Bushwacker.. Having destroyed the upper half, we turned and de-escalated to grind out the bottom half. Moseyed. C-1 10 Jump Squats, Moseyed C-2 10 Jump Squats 20 Lunges, Moseyed C-3 10 Jump Squats 20 Lunges 30 Squats, Moseyed C-4 10 Jump Squats 20 Lunges 30 Squats 40 Sumo Squats.. With the PAX finishing faster then anticipated, YHC had to react with quick thoughts to finish this carnival ride. Q moseyed the PAX back to the breezeway for the close. Partnered up, P1 did core work while P2 sprinted half of the breezeway up the steps and around the tower flap jacking. Core consisted of Plank, Right arm high/Left arm high, Chillcut, Misson Impossible, LBCs, Hello Dollies and Rosalitas..

    Circled for count, announce, COT.

Water Pic returning from a guest post in Tallahassee shared that the PAX recites the Pledge at their AOs. We installed the same at Grandmas House on this Gloom.

Appreciate The HAMMER for praying out the PAX!!!

All 6 PAX gathered at the Waffe House for some F2 and reminiscing about the 80s and 90s programming. Talks of “Revenge of the Nerds 2” some “SNL” chatter and how Eddie Murphy saves the day.. But one that clearly stood out to the Q, The HAMMER mentioned the radio station WTIX and how they use to play 50s and 60s, but a recent tune in revealed that “Jesse’s girl” is now considered an oldie.. Whoa!!!

The PAX all allowed that to sink in for a moment, then we continued some great F2.

Appreciate the recommendation Water Pic of some coffateria after our beatdown on this local holiday. YHC enjoys the time shared with positive men looking to become better physically but ultimately better internally as stated on a recent 43 feet podcast with Dredd…

Thank you for the chance to lead and ✌🏻 till the next Gloom!!

  • Full Effort Is Full Victory

We cranked up the morning with a 2 mile run. Tanked Up shared a quote from a book he had on his shelf. The quote stressed when we work our butt off in the streets of Mandeville, or wherever you may be, the satisfaction of that workout lies in the “effort” you give. Full effort is Full victory. Something tells me most of us gave full effort this glorious morning.

Warmup–SSH, windmills, arm circles, flutter kicks, low ssh,

    The Thang–

Ab work- circle up in a plank position. Rotate right, stop, merkins, rotate merkins, rotate merkins. Let’s throw in Peter Parkers, Parker Peters and some Up/Downs.. Tanked Up challenged Brother Martin nemesis , Turbo and soccer pal, Jose 10k to some face to face up/downs. Raider Pride.😁

20 minute challenge-4 exercises merkins, crunches, ssh, squats, 25 reps then run 300 yards. Repeat for 20 minutes.. Zoolander decided to come out guns blazing!

To the sea wall– 2 exercises by the wall. Derkins Burpees 5,4,3,2,1 reps followed by ascending order 1,2,3,4,5

Over to the flag for more AB work led by Bushwacker, could not tell you the exercises due to fatigue!

Circle up for close out. Prayer led by Steve! Coffee and cake for one of the older men in the club.

Enjoyed the morning with some of the best of the northshore..

  • The Grundy-mobile

The PAX knew something was up when YHC walked up to the flag from the backside. When asked about the reason for the strange entrance, a simple “you’ll find out” would suffice.

With the PAX aware of something looming, we began to warmup.

    • 30 Seal Jacks IC
    • 10 Forward Lunges IC
    • 10 Merkins OYO
    • Shoulder warmup series

    THE THANG

Unaware of what the Q had in store, the PAX began moseying down the trace toward the tunnel of love with the men almost anticipating something to jump out at them. As we were approaching the final intersection of the trace before the tunnel of love, an object started to come into view… A shadowy object that was first identified by Coconuts… It was the Grundy-mobile!!!

The Grundy-Mobile with my girlfriend Sandy

It was only then that the PAX fully realized what I had in store. It was where the Q left his girlfriend Sandy… Don’t be rude guys, she’s a little self conscious because she put on at least 10 pounds since you saw her last. I don’t mind. It’s just more to love.

After we picked her up, we finished our Mosey to the Tunnel for the main event.

    • Tunnel of Love in the Tunnel of Love. The PAX lined up in a plank and pulled Sandy up the ramp through the plank tunnel. When a PAX finished pulling her through they would get up and go to the front of the line. Rinse and repeat with the opposite arm.
    • Next the PAX did a core exercise while one PAX took Sandy and backpedalled the ramp and ran back. Rinsed and repeat until everyone had gone. Core exercises included: LBCs, flutter kicks, leg raises, hello dolly’s, plank, plank left, and plank right.

After completing that we went back to the bus stop to finish up (dropping off Sandy at the Grundy-mobile on the way back).

We finished with what Steve appropriately called crazy eights. It basically is 11’s but with 8 instead of 11. The only difference is the distance between the two points. Point A was the bus stop and point B was the top of the trailhead stairs under the American Flag. Bushwacker said he didn’t want to play anymore. I don’t blame him.

The two exercises were freak nasties and sister mary katherines. We went until the time expired.

Circled up at the flag where we went through the typical F3 closing ceremonies and Ringo closed us out.

It was an honor to lead you gentlemen. Until next time.

    Grundy and Sandy

  • HardCORE in the Foggy Dew

RunRangerRun is 50% complete, and according to northshore team 1 captain, Steve, we are in 7th place for runners nation-wide! The maverick machine, Amnesia, has taken sole ownership of team 2, and chugging along! With all of that in mind, YHC pulled in this gloom just in time to jump into the 2 mile pre-thang along with the other pre-thangers, as well as the pre-pre-thangers. With Butt Splice in the mix, there would indeed be a competitive pace man to chase.

The rest of the Saturday warriors were eagerly assembled in the hazy morning around the flag in anticipation of the beatdown in store for them. With the House of Steve under quarantine, Captain Core stepped in to cover Q.

  • The Extra Mile Is Never Crowded

Unless, of course, you’re running in Old Mandeville, where there are always other running crews hitting the pavement before 0500.

First off, t-claps to Coconuts for showing up with some reflective running schwag, instantly making the pax both safer and giving us that “seasoned runner” look (so that when the group of women doing a 6-minute pace passed us, they knew they were passing some serious men).

Secondly, t-claps to Waterpik, who has posted to more than a few beatdowns while he rehabs his ankle.  He got YHC thinking this morning: would I show up if I couldn’t run?  Probably not.  Maybe the first week, but then the temptation of an extra hour of sleep (maybe 2 for an outta work hairdresser?) would be too much.  Pik leads by example and character like his is one of the biggest reasons why I’ve made F3 such an integral part of my life.

The Thang: Once our new reflective bands had been properly secured, YHC warned the pax that we’d be skipping our usual warm-up in lieu of a little more distance: 4 miles rather than our usual 3.2.

    Today’s route:

Back in time for a few flutters (30x IC) and a few merkins (20), before COT with Chewy praying us out.  Thanks for going the extra distance today guys, appreciate it!

  • NOLA No Call Beatdown – Northshore Edition

It was great seeing the South Shore on the North Shore. I am sure they were happy it was not at 7pm, in tank tops, and 30 degrees!!!! Thanks for making the trip across the bridge to take part of our beatdown. Let’s get this thing going!

Warmarama: Toe Touches – 15 IC, Windmills – 15 IC, IWs- 15 IC, SS Hops- 15 IC, Seal Jacks 15 – IC, High Knees 15 – IC, Butt Kicks 15 – IC, Eight Count Body Builders 10 – IC

    Mosey….

11’s : Start at the seawall by doing 1 step with each leg. Bear crawl to the street, and do 10 plank jacks. Lunge walk back to the sea wall. Rinse and repeat, increasing the step ups until you get to 10 and decreasing the plank jacks until you get to 1.

    Mosey….

With it being the eve of Superbowl 51, where our beloved Saints received the shaft, I thought it would be fitting to incorporate a part of our beatdown dedicated to the Black and Gold. All pacs were asked trivia questions regarding The Saints. An exercise was performed that was coinciding with the answers. The knowledge of the pacs regarding out team was quite impressive.

    1. How long was Garret Bartley’s field goal that sent the Saints to the super bowl in 2009? Answer: 40 yards, Exercise: 40 Jump Squats OYO
    2. In what year did the Saints play their first season in the Super Dome? Answer: 1975, Exercise: 75 Air Presses OYO
    3. What is the most touchdowns that a Saints player has scored in a season? Answer: 18, The original exercise was 18 burpees. Due to The Channel Mullet knowing that the Saints player who scored these 18 touchdowns was Dalton Hillard, we only had to do 17 burpees, IC. Thank You Channel Mullet!!!!
    4. What team did the Saints give their first victory after starting 0 and 26? Answer: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Exercise: 26 Merkins
    5. On what date did the Saints beat the Rams for their first playoff win? Answer: Dec 30, 2000, Exercise: 30 American Hammers IC

Merkin Wave – with a twist

All pacs take the plank position, starting with THE Manny, do one Merkin. Going in a clockwise direction, each pac does one Merkin while all other pacs hold plank position. Rinse and repeat this 4 times. In between each wave, all pacs move a 1/4 turn to the right in a plank position. This is Butt Splice’s absolutely favorite exercise on the F3 website.

    Mosey …..

Mary- LBCs – 20 IC, Freddie Mercuries – 10 IC, Flutter Kicks – 10 IC, Leg Lifts- 10 IC, Crunchie Frogs – 10 IC

Break into 4 groups of 6, each group sprints back to flag after giving the group in front of them about a 40 yard head start.

Welcome to the 3 FNGs that joined the F3 Nation today, Celtic Warrior, Hogie, and Shrimp Boots. Glad I could Q your first of many beatdowns.

Circle of Trust -Butt Splice prayed us out

    Great F2 at coffeterria afterwards.

  • Dodging balls

The pax met up last Saturday on the lakefront and quickly moseyed to Lamarque st playground. (Almost to quickly as the sun wasn’t quite all the way up yet…so a warm up ensued to let the day break a little more). The pax the divided up into two teams to play a version of dodgeball called “pinball.” Pinball is a game that originated in the 6 the grade PE class of YHC. The object of the game is to try and knock the opposing teams pin (cone) over. Some F3 modifications were made to keep the game in constant motion and the recommended HR above 160. If one is tagged out with a ball, 25 SSH, 10 merkins, and 5 burpees were performed to allow re-entry into the game. Also, a team exercise is of choice was performed if the cone is knocked over…

The precise rules of the game were somewhat hazy, as the last time YHC played this game, he was wearing tight rolled jeans, a hyper colored shirt, and the new Bo Jackson sneakers from Nike.

The cone is supposed to be in the paint? You can’t guard the cone? You have to knock the cone over, not just hit the cone? Oh well, who cares… let’s just play…

A good time was had by all. The pax then moseyed back to the lakefront for COT, name o Rama and prayer.

Special prayers for mathlete and his family, especially for his younger brother as they heal from the loss of their father.
