YHC and Heisenberg completed a 25 mile ruck Saturday and warmed up with a 1 hour pre Renaissance ruck. The 50 mile Star course is only 2 weeks away. We’re gonna kill it!
YHC felt the need to share the 100 burpees in 10 minutes again. Spreading it around to various AO’s is a must!
join us Monday at the View to get IPC week 3 out of the way
8 PAX got themselves out of bed on a Sunday morning to battle through the heat and humidity to start their week off right with a beatdown. We even had an FNG show up to see why other PAX left their AC’d houses for the discomfort of City Park. YHC gave the disclaimer and we moseyed to the steps of NOMA to warmup.
WARMUP- SSH IC x20 AV IC x 20 Arm circles IC x 20 Dying cockroaches IC x 20 Peter Parkers IC x 20 Parker Peters IC x 20
I had heard the Iron Pax Challenge was going to be stationary this week, so to honor the Iron Pax, I decided to lead the PAX in an Indian Run over to the Great Lawn for:
Suicide 11’s- Big Boy Situps and 8 Count Bodybuilders I had 8 counts planned for Catfish, but apparently he had to run across 2 more states that morning. For this beatdown we started at the top of the Great Lawn facing North with 1 Big Boy Situp, running to the first swing and performing 10 8-count bodybuilders. We then continued running to the electrical box, and then to the second swing for the farthest sprint.
Running suicides as part of 11s definitely took more time, but I looked at my watch and knew we were in the clear to Indian Run to Roosevelt Mall for:
Route 66– Jump Squats Taking advantage of the concrete benches on Roosevelt Mall, PAX ran up one side of Roosevelt Mall with Jump Squats until the 11th Bench, PAX then crossed Roosevelt Mall for: Route 66 – Dips There was some grumbling among the PAX regarding time, for Sunday Mornings (a Renaissance signature exercise). Again, I looked at my watch and knew we were good on time.
After completing descending Dips and Moseying to the back of NOMA, we took a 20 count and I noticed Hokey Pokey was already waiting, and questioned why we were taking so long. I looked at my watch again, said, “It’s 7:23 we’ve got 7 minutes, that’s plenty of time for Sunday Mornings. “Renaissance is 45min, not 60.” Well, YHC was quite surprised and embarrassed. One of the PAX said, “60 is the new 45”. We laughed and I learned a new word- LAGNIAPPE: Something extra the Q makes you do when you don’t want to (nailed it!). As we were over time, I cut our final exercise down from 5 rounds to 3:
Sunday Mornings
10 Air Presses in the peoples chair, followed by 5 donkey kicks, on the 5th donkey kick up to Balls to the Wall with one merkin/shoulder press. That’s one.
COT This was a particularly memorable beatdown, not only for the extra time, but also as we got to welcome FNG- Full Count into F3. As we start the Iron Pax Challenge there’s always a bit of rubbernecking and chatter about times/scores, I reminded the PAX about this quote from Hemingway, “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” Just by coming out to post each one of us is better than we were yesterday. I’m very thankful that we can come out, post and motivate each other to be better than our former selves.
A great start to the week and a fun time at coffeteria. SYITG.
Even at 0630 the heat and the humidity were present, but 7 men committed to give it their all and push through it. A brief disclaimer was given, followed by a short mosey to the NOMA steps for a warmup:

This was Door Dash’s first visit to The Renaissance, he’s a solid The View guy. Glad to see him make it out.
Iron Pax Challenge is coming up in September, so sign up and help NOLA show The Nation how awesome we are.
Both of my recent Q’s (Friday and Sunday) The Suck has made an appearance. If you need to work on increasing one’s endurance, this is the one to bring! That Bat Wing thing came back too, it’s great to prep the arms for a work out.
What a great way to start the week, followed by our regular awesome coffeteria!
5 Patriots arrived at City Park for a RED Friday workout. The real disclaimer today is that the workout was devised by @Boo-Boo, and we just completed it at City Park. Thank you for the workout @Boo-Boo, and reminding us to remember and honor our servicemen and servicewomen around the world.
And welcome back, Ya Mom’n’Dem!
The workout today is in honor of 9 men and women who died in a military training exercise on 7/27/20. 9 exercises for 9 fallen soldiers, 27 reps each. The Thang 1
Flora 1-2-3, aka Blockora 1-2-3, aka Dora with blocks 1-2-3. High Rise introduced this last week during Swole Fest 3, and it was so much fun I brought it back for another round. All Pax partner up with blocks. 100 Merkins: P1 does Merkins with each hand on a block, P2 does squats, flapjack after 20 Merkins. 200 Power Cleans: P1 does Power Cleans with block, P2 does side lunges, flapjack after 20 Power Cleans. This one was quite tiring. 300 LBC’s: P1 does LBC’s with block on chest, P2 does block hops, flapjack after 30 LBC’s.
The Thang 2
Block-o-round. Each Pax stood 15 feet apart with block. Exercises with blocks x 20 in cadence, then animal crawl counterclockwise to the next block for the next exercise. Curls, Right leg lunges, Rows, Left leg lunges, Dips, Block raises, Curls, Bus-drivers.
We ended with 8-count cinnamon twist crunch, explained and led by Belloq. Very nice exercise!
COT: count-off, name-o-rama, intentions, and a prayer. We plan to continue Swole Fest for most of the summer, Mondays at City Park. Please come and join us. Thanks for letting me lead.
High Rise coined the term Flannel Friday during Covid for Friday City Park workouts with 90’s grunge tunes. We kept the theme going today at NOMA. Today was a simple Tabata theme with no running. We have many F3 brothers recovering from leg injuries at City Park. The disclaimer was given reminding of physical distancing and off we go.
A slow mosey around NOMA and the warm-up COP: SSH x 20 IC, IW x 20 IC, Grass grabbers x 10 IC, Windmills x 10 IC, Arm circles 10 forwards 10 backwards, Michael Phelps x 10 IC.
The Thang: Tabata at the NOMA fountain. 10 stations, 10 exercises, 45 seconds of exercise, 15 seconds rest. 3 rounds. 2 minutes of rest in-between with Mary.
The exercises: Broad jump up steps, Dips, Mountain-climbers, Shoulder press with cinder block, Parker-peters, Power-ups, Shoulder taps, Burpees, Curls with 20# dumbbells, Merkins.
The tunes: 90’s grunge and rap.
3 minute cool-down with stretching. COT: name-o-rama, intentions, and a prayer. The work-out was reminiscent of a JV leap-year beat down on leap-day where JV led 29 exercises in one spot without ever leaving the circle. Beautiful. Thanks for letting me lead.
Rarajipari is a running game played by the Tarahumara people of the Copper Canyons region in Chihuahua, Mexico. Two teams of four or more run and kick a baseball-sized ball. The goal is to win, and not step on the ball and bite it in the process. I was first introduced to Rarajipari by Yankee at Wolfpack Mountain, and Hawg at the Mothership. We decided to bring it back to City Park.
7 men met at NOMA. Disclaimer given reminding of physical distancing. We ran a warm-up lap around NOMA.
Warm-up COP: SSH x 20 IC, Hill-billies x 20 IC, Grass-grabbers x 10 IC, Arm circles 10 forwards 10 backwards IC.
Next we moseyed to Wisner Mountain, stopping at several spots along the way. COP #1: LL step-ups x 15 IC, Dips x 15 IC, RL step-ups x 15 IC, Dips x 15 IC. COP #2: Peter-parker x 15 IC, Shoulder taps x 15 IC, Parker-peter x 15 IC, Merkins x 15 IC.
Wisner Mountain. At the bottom: Incline merkins x 10 IC, Dips x 10 IC. Sprint to the top of the mountain. At the top: Decline merkins x 10 IC. Rarajipari through City Park. After a disclaimer to be careful and not step on the ball or twist an ankle, YHC proceeded to step on the ball and almost bust my a$$. Luckily no one got hurt. We split into 2 teams, with Rarajipari back to NOMA. We took a short tour of City Park, running past Pan Am stadium, down Zachary Taylor drive, turning to go under the 610 underpass, pausing for calf-raises x 20 IC and monkey-jumpers x 20 IC, and continuing down Henry Thomas drive back to NOMA.
COT: Count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and a prayer. Thanks for allowing me to lead.
Something has been going on in the last couple months that just doesn’t seem right. I haven’t had proper care for much longer than that, but at least I have good company every week, that is until sometime mid-March. You see, there is this awesome group of Men that make me feel like I have purpose. They don’t just sit on me or leave trash all over me. They really care. Not like that so called “groundskeeper” that doesn’t know anything about grass. I’m only about 10 years old, so I’m still trying to figure things out.
I’m sorry, let me introduce myself! I’m the Great Lawn, and I was shown some serious Respect this last Saturday, 16 May. It’s been rare to see these fine Men gather here as of late, except for F3 Fest, which was a total blast by the way! That guy Tool really knows how to throw a party….
The one they call Fracsac gave a disclaimer, had the men count off and remember the numbers, and then brought all 12 Men to my domain Saturday morning in what he referred to as a Phase 1 celebration. I guess that means F3 is back, which is awesome. I missed these Men. Well most of them anyways. I try not to play favorites, but have you met that Rudy guy? But I digress……
There was a warmup:
SSH IC x 50 – wait a minute….Why more than 31? I’m confused
IW x 20 IC
GG IC x 10
AC IC x 20
PP IC x 20
Then they moseyed to one side of me for the first Routine:
Blimps – Starting on one side, do an exercise, run to the other side of me, do the next exercise, then run back. You get it, right?
Burpees x 10
Lunges x 10
IW x 15
‘mericans x 20
Plank Jacks x 25
Squats x 30
Then he had then split up by even and odd numbers, using the count off from the disclaimer. It was a real disaster, but so was the Routine:
Start at each corner…..it was so bad, we’ll just say they did Burpees x 10, and 8 count body builders IC x 10. Probably something else too, but we just need to get past this one. I thought this Q was educated……
Mosey back to one of the corners for next Awesome Routine:
DirtyMacDeuce!
Round 1
‘mericans x 12
Squats x 12
Bigboi situps x 12
Run a lap around me
Round 2
Shoulder Taps x 12
LBC’s x 12
Lunges x 12
Run a lap around me
Round 3
Floyd Mayweathers x 12
Bonnie Blairs x 12
Freddie Mercury x 12
Run a lap
Round 4
Cataline wine mixers x 12
Jump squats x 12
LBT’s x 12
Run a lap
The next Routine was a test of mental fortitude:
Spoiler alert, it didn’t go well
The Q would ask for 2 numbers from the pax. One was for the number of SSH IC, the other was for SSH in silence, ending in unison with the Q. A failure would result in a penalty.
After 4 rounds of 10 penalty burpees, the Q called it. But on the bright side, the Pax got to do 40 more burpees! Good times!
Finished with some Mary.
Ended with a COT
I overheard some new Respect from the Pax, apparently the one they call Fracsac turned 50! Wow, how did that happen?
That must have been a real downer to turn 50 during a pandemic. As it turns out, that guy had a pretty awesome day. After enjoying some coffeteria at the re-opened Café Navarre, several of the Pax surprised him with a drive by birthday and visit! What an awesome organization F3 is! I wish I could get up and join them. Maybe someone will put some good grass on me……

Back in January, I have already heard about the Coronavirus because of my family living in Hong Kong. My father, who is still currently stuck in Hong Kong due to the travel restriction, had informed me how bad this thing is and how many people had already died in China. I knew it was somewhat serious, but I never expect it to be THIS bad where it will affect everyone of us for a very long time. Particularly, I remember my parents were in Hong Kong when SARs broke out in 2003. Because Hong Kong did a great job containing SARs, I never thought a similar highly contagious respiratory infection would hit us all the way to NOLA.
Before City and Statewide stay-at-home mandate, we get a chance for one last Saturday beatdown. 20 PAX showed up on a beautiful morning. I gave my standard disclaimer and off we went!
We started off with a lap around the great lawn and back to the Peristyle for our warmups in cadence:
SSHs x 20
Forward & Backward Arm Circles x 10 each
Windmills x 10
Grassgrabber x 10
Hill Billies x 20
Peter Parker x 15
Mountain Climbers x 15
Parker Peter x 15
Part 1
Picked a column at the Peristyle. In plank position, each Pax did hands on the wall x 20. Then did 20 right leg step ups. Then back to a column and did another 20 hands on the wall in plank position. Then back to the bench to finish with 20 left leg step ups.
Part 2
Walked across the street to the Great Lawn. We were using palm trees on the right as our markers. At the first tree, we started off with 1 lunge (Two is One). At the second tree, we did 2 lunges (Two is One), at the third tree, ….. all the way to the eighth tree. Then sprinted back to the very first tree and planked / waited for the Six. Then we added another layer of exercise. At the first tree, we started off with 1 lunge (Two is One) and 1 big boy sit-up. At the second tree, we did 2 lunges (Two is one) and 2 big boy sit-ups. At the third tree…. all the way to the eighth tree then sprinted back to the beginning and waited for the Six again. Final layer of exercise we added on was everyone’s favorite: burpees. At the first tree, we did 1 lunge, 1 big boy sit-up, and 1 burpee….. all the way to the eighth tree again. So in total, each PAX ponied up 108 lunges (2 is 1), 72 big boy sit-ups, and 36 burpees.
Part 3
We moseyed to the fountain in front of NOMA. We picked a partner and did DORA 1, 2, 3. The exercises were 100 leg raises, 200 inclined merkins, and 300 LBCs. While one pax was doing the exercise, the other partner was burpee broad-jumping towards NOMA on the flat surface and bunny hopped on the steps. Then ran back to flapjack with the partner.
We ran back to the flag for COT. We went overtime by a minute or so. At every COT, I always mention how grateful I am able to do this with the PAX on a regular basis. F3 is a big part of my life. I do this 4 to 5 times a week. I enjoy the F2 part the most. We had our last Cafe Navarre breakfast together. Now, I still workout with few PAX in a smaller group and keeping our social distance. I’ve been running into other smaller F3 groups here and there in the gloom. I cannot wait till we can all get back together with 30 plus PAX at the WPM, Mothership, Rock City, The Skinny, Chamber of Horrors, 610 Stomps, Tsunami, The Birdcage, Foundry, Popeyes, Okwata, Stiffler’s Mom, Master Melvin, Wally Run, Uptowner, Sweaty Bells, and Renaissance. Until then, stay safe!
