  • Redux of Round One

Following the honored tradition of Amnesty for Rock City, YHC did a repeat Q (not than any of the PAX had the slightest clue, since they seem to all fartsack on Sundays and are never seen at Sweaty Bells).

Warm-up: SSHs 25xIC, Hill Billies 25xIC, Arm Circles 25xIC, Squat Pulses 25xIC, Windmills 25xIC, and (with a brain infarct and thus variation from Sweaty Bells) Merkins 25xIC.

Mosey to the track for the THANG: Shoulder Presses 20xIC halos, Curls 20xIC, Squats 20xIC, Rows 20xIC, and then a mosey around the track.  Rinse and repeat, but with only 15 reps IC each time and a lap around the track in the opposite direction (lots of mumblechatter from the lemmings).  Rinse and repeat again, but with only 10 reps IC each time, and then a lap around the track in the original direction.  Finally rinse and repeat with just 5 reps IC and a final lap around the track in the opposite direction again.

Return to rock pile for a Circle of Mary:

  • Heisenburg’s Uncertainty = Catfish (Mothership 2020-01-11)

Lovely windy morning on the Mothership with 9 PAX.

Started on the Great Lawn with some windmills, grass grabbers, arm circles, and side straddle hop. On to our faces for Parker Peters, Plank Jacks, and Peter Parkers. Then on to some 8-count bodybuilders to finish the warmup.

Moseyed over to the treeline for 11s with burpees and catalinas. Faster PAX did LBCs and overhead claps while waiting for the six.

Took a quick mosey over to Cafe du Monde and then back to the peristyle. Did a merkin ring of fire (3 rounds), then 10 burpees OYO, then a squat ring of fire (hold al gore b/w squats, 3 rounds), then 10 burpees OYO, then a flutter kick ring of fire (hold legs up b/w kicks, 3 rounds), then 10 burpees.

After this, got some donkey kicks in, then moved to the benches for right leg step-ups, dips, left-leg step ups, incline merkins, then calf raises by the columns.

Another mosey to marconi and back to the peristyle. Finsished up with some 8-counts, then back to flag for COT.

  • Whoa there little buddy…margaritas must wait!

First sweaty bells of 2020, how many PAX would show to ring (bells) in the new year???  YHC was happy to see Pop-a-Lock locked and loaded to get his bells on when he pulled up.  Soon we were joined by Squeal and Jingle Vader.  Let’s get started!  Introduction and disclaimer, welcome to 2020 PAX oh wait is that Willie coming in hot???? • 200th Beatdown in 2019!

21 brave PAX joined YHC on a chilly, windy Wednesday. The temp read 40 degrees F on the dashboard, but it felt colder because of the windchill. Needless to say, it was cold! Today was YHC’s 200th F3 beatdown in 2019. After 2018, YHC set his goal to post 200 times in 2019….. looking like YHC has some room to spare with couple more weeks left in 2019.

The PAX warmed up with a lap around the parking lot by the Audubon Clubhouse to the Bandstand. In front of the Bandstand, the PAX did the following warm-up exercises in cadence:

    SSHs x 20

    Imperial Walkers x 20

    Self Love x 10

    Windmills x 10

    Peter Parkers x 15

    MCs x 15

    Parker Peters x 15

The PAX then jogged through the Oak Alley towards the track, did 10 burpees on your own and moseyed back to the shelter.

To dedicate YHC’s 200th beatdown, YHC decided to do Dora 2, 2, 2. Partnered up. While one PAX was doing the exercises, the other PAX ran from the shelter through the Oak Alley to the track and back.

    200 – steps-up

    200 – declined shoulder taps

    200 – LBCs

Upon completion – El Wire gave the PAX a 20 seconds count. Picked a different partner and did another Dora 2, 2, 2. with the following exercises:

    200 – air squats

    200 – inclined merkins

    200 – hello dolly

    Round of Mary

The Pax stayed at the shelter and did the following exercises in cadence:

    Dying Cockroach x 15

    Flutterkicks x 20

    American Hammer x 15

Moseyed back to the flag with some COT. I am very grateful to be able to workout with the PAX on a regular basis. Never take it for granted. I set my goal in December 2018 that I will try my best to participate 200 F3 workouts in 2019. Blessed with minor injuries and I was still able to achieve this goal. This is only possible because of the PAX. I could never do this on my own. I ended up posting 206 times in 2019. Thank You PAX and I hope to do this for a very long time. Happy 2020!!! SYITG.

  • Get in gear for the new year with 400 reps

On Tuesday evening, December 31st, YHC put out a brief message: Get some rest tomorrow, because Thursday will feature the 400 at Okwata. This was done for several reasons:

    • First and foremost, the 400 is hard. It’s a great aerobic/anaerobic mix, and I at least tend to get winded pretty quickly.
    • Second, if YHC knew that was coming, the thought, at least, was that YHC would be more responsible on New Year’s Eve knowing that he would be sweating out every drop of vodka. And publicly committing to it was the best way to assure it would actually go down.
    • Finally though, the 400 is a good test of where we all are. When you finish it, there is a sense of accomplishment. It’s a benchmark you can revisit and track progress, and progress is something we should never stop striving for, in whatever form it may come.

What is the 400? I had last done it courtesy of a Triple Shift Q, and struggled mightily through it, but I believe it goes back to the early days of Okwata. The 400 is

    • 10 trips over the levee and back
    • stopping at the top of the levee, then the neighborhood side of the levee, then back to the top of the levee, then back to where you started for….
    • 10 reps of a particular exercise

    So a typical round is:

    • run up the levee for 10 merkins (for example)
    • run down to the other side for 10 merkins
    • run back up the levee for 10 merkins
    • run back down to where you started for 10 merkins

    Today we did

    1. SSH 50% effort for a warm-up. (YHC had done an abbreviated warmup because last time, we’d used almost the entire 45 minutes to complete it, so we used this as part of the warmup)
    2. Merkins
    3. Burpees
    4. Squats
    5. Carolina dry docks
    6. Bonnie Blairs (3 count, 1,2,3 1; 1,2,3 2)
    7. J-Lo’s (3 count)
    8. LBC’s (3 count)
    9. Monkey Humpers (3 count)
    10. At this point, we still had some time, so YHC decided we would redo the SSH at 100% so as not to short ourselves. So SSH (3 count)
    11. Final exercise, only one choice (and a very popular one judging by the groans and mumblechatter). More burpees!

Some stretching led by High Rise, prayers for one our pax who has a child going through some challenges, and something I wanted to share with the group from a friend who recently died from brain cancer. Several months before his death, having lived with the cancer for a few years, he remarked:

“While I’ve lost nearly everything, physically, financially, emotionally, materially, Never, not once, have I lost hope, belief, faith.”

I know of no better way to live.

I also know of no better group of men than this one, and for that, I thank all of you. Here’s to a great 2020. – Kuch

  • Hokie Pokey’s 60th Birthday Party

    Hokie Pokey’s 60th Birthday Party

    Warm Up

After a brief welcome and disclaimer and pointing out two FNG’s we moseyed over the great lawn for 15 SSH (some jeering the Q was already winded and thus we stopped), 10 Arm Cirlces and 10 Abe Vigoda’s we the explained today’s 6oth birthday celebration.

    The celebration of 60

We divided into 6 groups (Four groups of 4 and two groups of 5) and established 6 starting positions around the great lawn (the 4 corners and the two “midfields”). Each group would perform 10 reps at each station for a total of 60 reps in each round.

After each round, the fittest of the fit would run to Café du Monde and then to the Peristyle Pavilion where Catfish would lead them in 60 reps of his cardio intensity choice while waiting on the six.

We the returned to our starting points at the great lawn to start the next round.

    Round one ~ Burpess

Round two ~ Lunges ( 2 is one)

Round three ~ Imperial Walkers (2 is one)

Round four ~ Merkins (Hand Release)

Round five ~ Plank Jacks (4 count)

Round six ~ was performed while staying under the Peristyle Pavilion as we were running tight on our 60 minute time cap.

    COT

Countarama, Name-o-rama, naming two FNG’s (Hokie’s son-in-law from DC is Beardo and Hokie’s brother from PA is CoatTails), announcements and prayer intentions.

Rudy was kind enough to then close us out in prayer!

    Gratitude

I am humbled to be able to call my F3 NOLA guys my brothers in Christ and friends. I am also appreciative of Catfish moving his Muscleship Q to Mothership and Co-Qing this 60th birthday celebration. To each of you, please know I am honored to be in your presence and have you pushing me to grow physically and spiritually. To each of you, RESPECT RESPECT to you!

Thanks to the 26 PAX who were able to celebrate my birthday with me

  • “The 12 Days of Christmas” or maybe “The 12 Exercises of Christmas”

YHC was relaxing at home after a calm and quiet Christmas day with the family, when he received a reminder text for his Q at Okwata tomorrow morning.   So, after a few minutes of thought I had a basic workout prepared and was ready for the next morning.    As I dozed off to sleep, I was inspired by the Christmas spirit, hopped out of bed, and scribbled some notes on a random piece of paper.    YHC had to incorporate a Christmas theme to the workout

11 PAX (JV coming in hot) met at the flag at Okwata the morning after Christmas and moseyed to the intersection of Canal Blvd and Lakeshore Drive for warmup.   Warmups consisted of SSH x 26, Imperial Walkers x 15, Grass grabbers x 10, Shoulder taps x 30, Arm circles x 10, and self-love.

The PAX remained in our circle and counted off.  We did one round of the following exercises at the count / number of reps next to the exercise.

    1. 8 Count body builders
    2. Jack Webbs
    3. American Hammers
    4. Squats
    5. BURPEES
    6. Penguins
    7. Merkins
    8. Monkey Humpers
    9. Hillbillies
    10. Bonnie Blairs / Lunges
    11. Big Boy Sit Ups
    12. Flutter Kicks

After the first round – PAX were ready to go again.    This time to the theme of the Christmas classic – The 12 Days of Christmas”. Shuffles started us out with “On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me – 1 8 ct. body builder. After the first 2-3 rounds of the song, the PAX got the hang of it.  Each PAX enthusiastically called out their exercise and we were able to complete the entire song with a few minutes to spare.

In the remaining time, PAX did two laps of Bernie Sanders (run backwards up the hill and forward back down the hill).   Mosey back to the flag for finish at 6:15.

COT, announcements, intentions, and gratefulness for the Christmas holiday.  YHC is thankful for the opportunity to lead and for the participation of the PAX in the post-Christmas workout.

  • Ba Humbug!

    Ba Humbug!

Six Pax plus the QIC were able to slip out of their festive homes to sneak in a Christmas morning workout. Pop-a-lock wanted to co-Q to prepare for his VQ and  birthday Q on January 8th at the Birdcage. After the standard disclaimer the Pax mosyed around the parking lot and circled up in front of the Grand Stage. The following Warm up exercises commenced led by Pop-a-lock and QIC.

    SSH x20

    Windmills x20

    Self Love x12

    Arm Circles F/B x12

    Grass Grabbers x12

As a tribute to the Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, the Pax performed Imperial Walker Squats from the front of the stage to the track… and the Pax thought they were going to get a brake on Christmas morning.

After a mosey to the field in front of the zoo, the Pax paired up into Naughty and Nice Pax. The Naughty Pax Reindeer crawled 25 yards sprinted to the end of the field, Reindeer crawled another 25 yards back, then ran backwards to the Nice Pax, and flap jacked the following exercises.

Elf on the Shelf (Al Gore’s)

    Shiny Bicycles (Freddie Mercury’s)

Chimney Climbers (Mountain Climbers) Name credit to Pop-a-lock!

Next up was a Christmas Wreath of Fire. 4 rounds, one for each week of Advent.

Once complete the Pax made their way to Santa’s Workshop (the Shelter) for the following exercises led by Pop-a-lock in cadence:

    Left leg step ups x15

    Right leg step ups x15

    Dips x 15

    Incline Merks x20

The Pax rounded out the Christmas morning workout with a quick circle of MARY, complete with a little coal for the stocking, if you know what I mean…

    Little Baby Elves x20

    Hello Santas x20

The Pax mosyed back to the flag for COT, nameorama, announcements, and a closing prayer. We attempted to EH a passer by. He took our picture, but I know he thought we were crazy because we all EHed him at the same time! That is an area of oppotunity in 2020.

Lest not forget, He is the reason for the Season!

  • Tony Little’s haircut

Gentlemen, it was a brisk morning on the Lakefront today; which got me thinking about how working out indoors might be nice; which then got me thinking about which exercises I would do if I were in the gym; which then got me thinking about the different gym equipment I could use; which then got me thinking about the elliptical machine; which then got me thinking about the ‘Gazelle Freestyle’ machine; which then got me thinking about Tony Little’s haircut. But I digress.

T-claps to Jingle Vader for showing up in shorts & a sleeveless shirt this morning. Most of the other PAX came bundled up in winter gear.
