  • On the River with Big Freedia – The Twerk Heard Round the Swirl – from Willie

11 Pax met at the entrance to Audubon Zoo for a kettle bell work out led by yours truly. I had my bluetooth speaker in tow with a new and improved F3 playlist. My standard rules apply to the music. If any of the PAX want to skip a song, it means 5 burpees for everyone. There is only one skip at a time, so we are all stuck with the next song. Almonaster did the honor of hitting “shuffle” to begin the workout. After a short warmup, the PAX carried their bells to the banks of the Mississippi River to start the beatdown. Warm ups consisted of the following:

    Halos x 10 both directions, Self Love x 20 oyo, Grass Grabbers IC x 10, SSH IC x 20

At the river, we partnered up for a DORA 100, 200, 300… One Partner bear crawled about 20 yards then proceeded to run to the levee and back, while the other Partner did the following:

100 kettle bell pull throughs (1 is 1), 200 LBCs with the bell, 300 overhead press.

After we shook out our shoulders on a 20 count, the PAX then circled up for a Big Freedia Ring of fire.

All Pax held in Al Gore position. Pax 1 did a low slow squat with 20 pulses counting out loud to 10. At 10 the next PAX started his pulses, and so on.. This was followed by Monkey Humpers, all to the music of local hip hop artists Big Freedia, Mystikal, DJ Jubilee, and Freak Nasty.

The PAX and their bells made it back to the flag with a few minutes left on the clock for some Mary. Sandbar called for a skip making the PAX do 5 burpees at the very end of the workout. We closed Sweaty Bells with COT, then breakfast ensued at Panola Cafe.

It’s always a pleasure leading such a great group of men!

  • Making it “uncomfortable” – from Sandbar

YHC kicked off his last WPM as site Q exhorting the PAX to push themselves and step out of their “comfort” zones with their reps and runs.

Mosey to the Loyola Palm circle for the Warm up. SSH, 5 burpees, Low slow squats, Windmills, Grassgrabbers, 10 more burpees.

Mosey to the mountain. Pair up for the burpee ladder. One pax does 10 burpees while the other runs up one ramp and flat and does LBCs until the second PAX catches up and then runs past up one ramp and one flat and does 10 burpees. This added 30 more burpees.

At the top we did 10 more burpees at the far end of the garage, then moseyed back and did 10 more burpees. (running total 65). Then all PAX down the stairs and 5 more burpees. Back up the stairs and 15 burpees. Back down the stairs and 10 burpees. Back up and 5 burpees. That completed a century of burpees @Bolt!.

Back down the stairs and the PAX moseyed to ROTC pullup bars. YHC reminisced about spending 3 years next door at TLS, and smoking a cigarette with Antonin Scalia in the breezeway and sharing a beer with Ralph Nader just inside. 20 yrs goes by fast.

At the pullup bars the PAX split into 4 groups – pullups, merkins, dips and LBOs. Count was 10 pullups and we ran the cycle 4 times.

Mosey back to the flag and COT. YHC announced that after 3 1/2 years as site Q he was handing the mantle to @meatball. Thanks for the opportunity. Find ways to make yourself uncomfortable.

  • Uptown Bakers Dozen – from Fracsac

YHC was alerted to a Down Range Pax needing an Uber to a beat down. Being the hospitable type, YHC volunteered to take said Pax to the Bird Cage.

Lucky for YHC the Bird Cage needed a Q.

Arriving early, the normal well lit alley of trees was found to be dark, so no go there. Grab some cones and set up along walking path.

Not having made it uptown in awhile, new faces were seen. It’s good to move around!

At 0530 disclaimer was given followed by a mosey to the brick area at the entrance to the alley of darkness. Normal warmup, then mosey to cones.

First up – Lucky 7 BLIMPS

7 burpees at first cone, 6 at second, and so forth. After 1 burpee run the parking lot loop and back and wait for the 6. Continue with Lunges, imperial walkers, merkins, plank jacks and squats.

During Lucky 7s O’doul’s pulled me aside and told me I needed to step things up and that my workout was weak. I pretended that I couldn’t hear him, deafness is a great crutch at times. He hung back with me to push me, tempting me with next seasons fig harvest. Better step it up! This guy is a beast!

    Next up, suicide burpee 11s.

Do a burpee, run back to start line. Run up to 2nd cone for two burpees, run back to start line. Continue until 11 burpees.

    Times up, thank goodness.

    COT

    NMM

YHC had to get Chew Toy back to his hotel, so coffee was missed with the Uptown crew. I’ll be back!

Unfortunately we only got to 94 burpees, but pax were told to feel free to do the additional 6 on their own….

Joking aside, O’Doul’s really is becoming a beast. He pushed hard and never quit. Brown Bag is raising a solid young man and I’m honored to have had the opportunity to lead.

  • Better Late Than Never – from King Kong

I Q’ed almost a month ago and was too lazy to write a backblast. On June 26, I decided to write this…..

We moseyed behind Tulane Gibson Hall and did some warm-ups. Then moseyed to PJs under the wind tunnel with more warm-ups. Then arrived to Tulane Howard-Tilton Memorial Library, which is named after El Wire’s grandfather.

Here we did Dora 1, 2, 3. While one partner ran a loop around the parking lot, the other partner was doing 100 step ups, 200 shoulder taps, and 300 American Hammers. Flap-jack until the exercises were completed.

After Dora, we ran to the baby Loyola garage. At the first ramp, we bear crawled to the next level. At the second ramp, we lunge walked to the next level. At the third ramp, we bear crawled backwards to the next level. Once we got to the top, we Native American ran down to the base of the mountain.

We then moseyed to the Palm Court to finish it out with a round of Mary’s with some good form merkins.

Back to the flag with COT.

  • Simple Yet Effective – from Tinkles

Light crowd even for a Monday. Jazz Fest? Personally dealing with a gimp shoulder, I wanted to offer a lower body focused beatdown with the option to modify the pace. The pax seemed to dig it and a good sweat was had by all.

Warm Up: SSH IC x 30, Forward Arm Circles x 20, Reverse Arm Circles x 20, Imperial Walkers x 20.

Beat Down: Simple circuit starting at the flag and run to shelter/benches for 20 step ups with each leg, continue down the gravel path past the band stand to the main loop for 30 LBCs, continue loop back to flag for 10 lunges with each leg. 20 step ups per leg were a source of debate with the leaders of the pack questioning the diligence of some of the other pax for their attention to counting. They did take a disproportionate amount of time. Most got at least 1.5 miles in.

Count off, namorama, and intentions. For their efforts, the Pax were rewarded with a voluntold Q spot in the coming weeks!

44 x Shoulder taps and toe taps (4 is 1)

Moseyed back to the flag for COT.

I look forward every morning in the gloom with the PAX. I love to surround myself with leaders in our community, and this is why I bought into F3. I am always grateful to have the mental and physical strength to workout on a regular basis. I hope to lead many more birthday beatdowns in the future. SYITG.

  • Extra Skinny – from Tinkles

Keeping the skinny fresh isn’t easy. The pax seemed up for minor wrinkle so I went for it. The pace was a bit quicker and the Indian lines were never even but in the end it was a good workout.

Warm up: SSH, Arm circles forward and back, Grass grabbers.

Indian run to the bridge with an ab break for the 6 to catch up. Jog sprint alternating to the U drive in front of Tulane.

Partner up for partner Dora. 100 burpees, 200 Floyd Mayweathers, 300 squats. Called early for time.

Alternate forward and backward run to grassy knoll for some more Mary.

3/4 mile Indian Run back to the flag.

Count off, nameorama, intentions. Thanks to Landing Strip for picking up the next Skinny Q. Sorry if you posted and I didn’t record you. If you read this and let me know, I’ll buy you a beer!

  • An Uptown Backbalst – from Tinkles

We ran a loop with a little extra. It was Valentine’s Day.

  • Code of Ethics – 5 Principles for Auditors – from King Kong

Today is the 2nd Friday of Accountability. 23 Pax showed up on a beautiful morning in the upper 40’s with no wind. Perfect condition to add on miles for RCR. At the same time, the PAX had no idea they will get something educational out of this workout. We started off with some stretches.

    1) to the first stop (PJ’s on Tulane Campus) – once we got there, we did some arm circles and self love. When people say “accounting,” most think of tax returns, financial accounting…. but many never thought about auditing. And this is our focus today – Audit.

Why is auditing important? If Sandbar asks you to invest in his Left Bank company, the first thing you would ask for… his financial statements so that you can make a wise decision whether or not to invest in his delicious company. Sandbar seems like a nice guy, but how do I know his financials are accurate? How do we know he’s not inflating his revenue and net profit? If his financial statements were audited by an independent firm or accountant, you have more confident that his financial statements are free from material misstatements.

2.) 2nd stop (field by UC) – There are 5 Code of Ethics Principles for auditors. First one is Integrity.

Integrity – Audits are performed with diligence, honesty, and responsibility. Keeping yourself honest so that you can provide quality work for your clients and peers.

We kept ourselves honest by doing 10 perfect form inclined merkins in cadence.

3.) 3rd Stop (Turf Field by Tulane Garage) – While we were doing LBTs, we were discussing the 2nd principle, which is Objectivity.

Objectivity – Auditors remain unbiased or fair in all their dealings.

Like Angie’s said – “have to see both sides.”

4.) 4th stop (Indian run to the top of Tulane garage) – at the top, we talked about the 3rd principle, which is Professional Competence and Due Care, while we were doing shoulder taps.

Competence – keep up your knowledge and skill while providing service to your client. Apply due care based on the importance of tasks and on the confidence given to you by a client.

5.) 5th stop (Indian run to the top of Loyola “mini” garage) – at the top, we brought up the 4th principle, which is Confidentiality, while we were in people’s chair position with overhead presses.

Confidentiality – Practice discretion and protection of information when auditing. Never use audit information for personal gain or in harmful way to legitimize the interests of an audit.

6.) 6th stop (Indian run to the top of WPM)

7.) final stop – back to the flag to finish off with the final principle, which is Professional Behavior.

Professional Behavior – follow the law and regulations.

At the COT, I quizzed the PAX and see if they were paying attention on the 5 principles. Angie’s List was dialed in and aced the quiz.

Thanks for allowing me to lead and lets keep each other accountable!!!

  • Squeaker at The Skinny – from MacGyver

18 PAX and YHC turned up for a brisk morning at the Skinny, disclaimer was raised then we promptly moseyed over to the field across the street for a warm up –

    Side straddle hops-30
    Abe vigotas slow-10
    Imperial walkers -15
    Peter Parker’s-15
    Parker peters -15
    LBC’s-20
    Flutter kicks-25

After the warm up we recovered and moseyed to the levee for BLIMPS, running back and forth using the power poles for progressively farther turn around points,

After (2) 20 count breathers, the PAX moseyed over to the top of the levee for down and back Bear crawls(x2) then sets on the top of the levee

    American Hammer x10
    LBC’s X30
    merkins x20
    Flutter kicks x25
    Wife non-pleasers x10
    Penguins. X15
    Dying cockroaches x20
All were in 2 or 4 count cadence

Now that we were rested, we moseyed off the levee to the front of Audubon for 20x dips, and 15 setups. We then moseyed back to COT for echo count stretches, and 20 merkins to round out our morning. Count off, NoR, intentions, and a prayer. Then all the over achievers made a victory lap of Audubon for RCR.

Somewhere towards the end, Q lost his breath and started squeaking like a pre pubescent teenage girl, but we won’t talk about that. What happens at the The Skinny, stays at The Skinny

PS; I believe a certain PAX still owes us an explanation of what a “19 year old pleaser” is. It remains to be seen if that mystery will ever be solved……

PPS; Also YHC can’t remember the names of 5 of the PAX who attended, sorry for that but your not forgotten. T-claps for those HIM’s

    Until next Q-

    MacGyver.
