  • Solving the Fitness Function – from Steve

Long before he was counting cards in the Deck of Death, before he was hosting Cinco de Mayo or Pi Day numeric-themed beatdowns, and way back before we all knew him as the only man who could’ve filled Jose’s sweat bucket more quickly than Jose himself, there was a young Russo who competed at the highest levels of high school academia as… that’s right, a Mathlete. YHC got to hear Russo’s origin story, that rare formative experience that, dare I say, altered something in his brain, changing the trajectory of his life and sending him on his destined path as the greatest mathematical mind of the Northshore F3 Pax. (Ok, Grundy may want to challenge you there, Russo….especially if an award is being handed out.)

Anyway, that story and others were told as Russo and YHC did a Tabata-style Block Party, 45 seconds on, 15 seconds rest. This was another interesting experiment in time dilation (the first being Chewy’s 8-year anniversary beatdown which, with its three exercises repeated ad nauseam, somehow felt longer than last year’s 12 hour anniversary beatdown). Here, the clock slowed to a crawl for the 45 seconds of work, and then miraculously went into overdrive for the 15 seconds of rest. We did 4-45 second sets of each of the following exercises (with a trip up the stairs between):

    – Curls
    – Squat Thrusters
    – Flutter Kicks (holding block up)
    – Goblet Squats
    – Bent over rows
    – Chest Presses

COT with Russo praying us out. Thanks Russo for the post and the opportunity to lead!

  • Four Corners of The Apocalypse – from Steve

Well, I’d hardly call it an “apocalyptic” beatdown. Nor was it truly a “four corners” (more like 6). But hey, sometimes you need a title just to get these things off the ground.

Marsh-style beatdown on this humid Tuesday (delayed bb here, so this was before out little cool front), moseying to the lake with a stop at each intersection for 15x merkins, 15x lunges, 15x flutter kicks IC. You know you’re firmly middle-aged when conversations yo-yo between healthcare costs and the financial viability of art galleries with wine bars. Other, more fun topics were surely mused over, but hey, YHC is 45 – I can’t remember what happened a week and a half ago.

Once at the lake, we headed to the Rip’s staircase for calf raises x5 each step. Chewy, Russo, and YHC were there for (and very likely contributed to) the demise of the previous set of stairs at Rips, so it’s good to see that these fairly new ones are still holding up. Then it was over to the wall for some step ups, freaks, step downs, freaks, Bulgarians, freaks, all x12 IC. And back to Rip’s for more calf raises.

With time closing in, we headed back, this time foregoing the merkins and lunges at each intersection, but stopping once at the midway point and knocking out the flutter kicks all in one go. Once back, COT, nameorama, and Chewy prayed us out. Thank you gents for the camaraderie, and for posting regularly – it pushes me to do the same.

  • Wild Q seems fitting!! – from Shooter

Granny proved to be not only Wild with the weather but also Wild with the dice. Knowing this weather will not remain much longer, YHC was still able to provide some general perspiration with his beatdown this morning for the PAX.. As Chewy stated at the end of our morning the one shirt beatdowns are soon to be done and over for sometime..Our full blown summer and humidity will be here to stay, so it was quite pleasant to enjoy this Gloom with its unusual coolness under the breezeway of the trailhead..

Felt like a good balanced routine and beatdown and until the next gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Here comes the humidity!! – from Shooter

With summertime approaching, the Scramble proved to bring out the perspiration. Although the temperature was in the 70s the humidity had to be between 90-100… & PAX posted and made the most it.. After a brief warmup of Hillbillies, Windmills, good mornings, grass grabbers and a Al Gore hold circle with a jump squat around the PAX to 100.. 2 Ruckers set out for 20 out and back while the remaining 6 moseyed the sidewalk route. Runners returned first and completed some Core WW1 sit-ups, flutter kicks and wife pleasers. A scramble would not be complete without a 20 count OYO of Merkins..

Glad to be back and appreciate the post gentlemen. Until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • North shore’s 8th anniversary – from Chewy

This weekend marked the eighth anniversary of F3 North Shore, a milestone that reminds us of the incredible journey we’ve been on together. From humble beginnings to becoming a pillar of support and growth for men in our community, F3 North Shore has truly made a difference in many lives.

Since its inception , F3 North Shore has been more than just a workout group. It’s a place where men of all backgrounds come together to break out of their comfort zones, forge meaningful friendships, and support each other through life’s challenges. In a time when maintaining close relationships outside of family can be challenging, F3 North Shore has been a beacon of camaraderie and support.

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for F3 North Shore and the core group of men who consistently show up each week. Your dedication goes beyond just exercise; it’s about building each other up, pushing boundaries, and creating a positive impact on each other’s lives.

Personally, I may not have been consistent throughout the years, but I always find comfort in knowing that I can come back to the PAx and that the core group is always there, ready to welcome me with open arms.

Here’s to celebrating eight years of F3 North Shore and to many more years of growth, friendship, and support.

  • McGruff the crime dog – from Waterpik

There was a visitor today at the Scramble. It was a larger than life statue of McGruff the crime dog, recently erected behind Mamdeville city hall. As in, are you kidding me???? At about 10 feet tall, this statue is larger than life, with its placard attributing McGruffs creation dating back to 1980. All kidding aside, I felt very safe out there this morning because he was there. Haha.

Anyway, there was some working out that took place also. Instead of the normal scramble route, we ran straight to the tunnel where we ran down the tunnel, across the flat part and then sprinted up the far side for 10 reps. After 10 reps we headed back to McGruffs house to close out. With 5 minutes to spare we did 20 merkins, hello Dollie’s, flutter kicks, Rosalitas, Peter Parker’s.

  • If Steve writes one, I have to too – from Russo

Mid 50s, beautiful morning today to hop back on the ‘Pad. Worried sick for two days that Steve had to fly solo at Granny’s, on the off chance he was going to post, I had to also post. He was not the only one YHC has let down recently. The other was Pelican, so of course it was nice being back in a routine with these two fine folks.

After a little back and forth over who was going to Q (think: Night at the Roxbury “Me? You? You? No, me? Him? Him? Me?) we were off.

Chatter included movie editing, how to avoid Hot Springs at all costs, eclipses, king cake knives, and big mistakes. Huge.

    Warmup
    All 10x IC:
    – SSHs
    – Arm circles
    – Imperial walkers
    – Self love
    – Toe touches
    – High knees

    Thang

Mosey down to the tunnel, where it was 11s: merkins in one side, traverse, shoulder tap plank jacks on the other.

Mosey back and we hit 6:00 on the nose.

COT, with Count, NOR, Announcements, Prayer.

Remember tomorrow if you post, do so at the Marsh for some madness.

  • The Double Deuce – from Steve

One AO you never have to worry about posting solo to is the Scramble. But with Shooter kitesurfing the China Walls of Oahu and Waterpik waiting in a very long line to ride the Tron lightcycle at Magic Kingdom, well… I’ll just say that maybe I was a little nervous this morning.

Those fears were assuaged when Hammer and BD rolled in just before the start time.

YHC keeps thinking we’re done with the cool weather and yet we just keep getting more. It was another near-perfect morning, and there was some fun mumblechatter about the recent Road House remake, science fiction masterpieces, and the brilliance of Michael Crichton.

I kept thinking back to Choppa, an OG scrambler who had a funny penchant for telling you a full synopsis for a movie if you hadn’t seen it. And I mean FULL – a 45 minute play by play, scenes acted out with quotes, taking up the entirety of the run. It was kinda incredible. Wonder where that dude is?

Anyway, T-claps to BD, who usually rucks with Chewy but today easily kept pace with Hammer and me. Also, this was his third (fourth?) consecutive post. 👏👏👏

Quick Mary and 20x merkins (as has become customary thanks to El Dentisto), and COT with Hammer praying us out. Thank you gents for the camaraderie and entertainment this morning, always enjoy being out there with you guys.

  • If A Tree Falls …. – from Steve

… in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

And of course, the age old question: if there’s a Block Party at Granny’s and only one Pax posts, is it still considered a party?

To answer that, I pose to you another question: does a bear $#@! In the woods? Is the glass half full, or half empty? Why did the chicken cross the road?

Sorry, too much caffeine this morning. Yes, it was a solo post at Granny’s this morning, but the party raged on regardless (though the coupons stayed in the car). Sensing that YHC would likely be without company this morning, I started before the bell rang with 20 merkins and 5x calf raises up each step of the pilot house. Another 20x merkins. Step ups, step downs, Bulgarians, x12 IC each. 20x merkins. 5x calf raises up each step again.

At this point, it was clear there’d be no late-comers, so YHC headed to the Marsh for half Murph: 1 mile run to Lakefront and back (passed Garfield’s crew, who are still out there pounding the pavement), then over to the newly padded playground for 50x pull ups, 100x merkins, 150x squats. Finished up with another set of step ups, step downs, Bulgarians, and freak nasties, x12 IC. Then one final set of 20x merkins.

Reminder that Zoolander’s annual Marsh Madness is this Saturday.

And one last one: if a vampire bites a zombie, does the zombie become a vampire or does the vampire become a zombie?
