  • Concrete Mount Suribachi – from Hogs Breath

YHC felt some coupon inspiration could take place at the A1C!

    Warm up
    SSH IC x 20
    Seal jacks x12
    Arm circles x10

Mosey to our coupons, much to the surprise of waterpick, cowbell, and Russo. “What we had coupons here!?!?!?” (For reference they are in a parking lot at the intersection of 26th ave and N Jefferson Ave, behind some ornamental bushes)

After carrying our coupons to the the corner of the parking garage, we lunge walked to the entrance, of said parking garage. At the entrance all pax beautifully performed 25 overhead presses. Then backwards walk, with coupons, up the parking ramp. At the first landing, we performed 25 derkins (seeing the trend yet?) on to an overhead carry through the garage, followed by 25 side step overs. Then YHC could not remember the name of the exercise he planned out….so cowbell jumped in with a “murder bunny” suggestion up the parking garage incline! For the record the actual exercise I was looking for is a “bear and block” however, both cause pain so this completes the goal!! At the top we completed 25 curls. And a lunge walk back to the shovel flag, thus we completed a full compliment of Mount Suribachi. BUT what goes up, must come down, So we shoulder walked the coupons down to the base floor entrance. There we performed 10 tricep extensions and began farmers walks back to return the coupons.

One more time we mosey to the shovel flag and began some Mary, of Captain Thor! One big boy sit up, then four American hammers; then increasing by two and eight respectively. We only made it through six rounds before we had to call time!
Cowbell prayed us out with thoughts for a safe weekend and allowing us to come together.

  • Amnesia lives up to his name – from Amnesia

Amnesia grabs the Q late Thursday night for me, but as Amnesia is named for his forgetfullness, he lives up to it by forgetting to write the backblast. He showed up to the A1C with his usual bike, but inside the cargo contained coupons. It was time for some circuit training. Each participant grabbed a block and performed various exercises at various counts (some 20, some 40). Like I said, it was Amnesia, and he forgets. Squat thrusts, man makers, curls, overhead presses, leg raises…it’s all a blur now on Sunday afternoon. We finished up with Mary, and named the new FNG: Indiana Jones, or Indiana for short. Nacho prayed us out, and I finally got to go to the official end of a Friday beatdown.

  • Tabata II: Electric Boogaloo – from Russo

Pax of 7 were met with humidity and mugginess at the A1C today. Undeterred and unplanned, pax gave a hastily thrown together Tabata a go to celebrate the last day of school for the year!

    – Cherry Pickers
    – Mummy Kicks

    – Imperial Walkers

    Thang
Tabata (multiple rounds, 45 seconds on, 15-ish seconds off, interspersed with laps around floor 4 of the garage)
    – Shoulder tap merkins
    – Crunchy frogs
    – Jump squats
    – Peter Parker’s
    – Derkins
    – American Hammers
    – Lunges
    – Air presses
    – Calf Raises
    – Bulgarian Split Squats
    – Urkins
    – LBCs

With a few minutes left, pax wrapped up with Mary: Hello Dollys, Leg Raises, Gas Pumps, and Penguins.

A great time was had by all!

COT, Name o’rama, announcements, and prayer closed us out.

Special mention of the Memorial Day Murph (5:15 AM Monday at the Marsh, corner of Livingston and Lamarque, coffee to follow?) and our thoughts and prayers to Jose for his knee MRI on Monday.

Thanks to all for the fellowship and fun from the fellas on a Friday.

  • Patriotic Friday – from Jose10k

While nursing a bum knee, YHC decided to focus on chest exercises. Getting there early, I completed 200 merkins before the PAX showed up. Moby, Cowbell, Einstein and myself made a great group to work out on a windy Friday morning. After a brief warm-up, we moseyed to do 4 corners. 7 wide merkins at each corner, 14 t merkins, 21 hand release merkins, followed by 28 merkins at each corner. Then a quick 20 to make it an even 300 merkins. After I ducked out to go to work, Cowbell lead the PAX rounds of exercises, adding to each. 5 burpees, 5 burpees, 10 squats: 5 b, 10 s, 15 lbc: 5, 10, 15, then 20 lunges: then 5, 10, 15, 20, adding 25 plank jacks, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, then adding 30 sec plank, the decreasing and working the exercises backwards. Mary: 15 hammer, 15 penguins, 15 crunchy frogs. Einstein prayed them out. Thanks for joining me and allowing me to lead. Thanks for Cowbell taking over for me.

  • Time will tell – from Shooter

In a selfish attempt to slow multiple PAX down for the upcoming H8, YHC will need to wait 24 hours to see if his evil plan plays to his favor.. Then again all the men that posted on this wonderfully cool gloom at the A1c have proven time and time again that they won’t be denied when it comes to a challenge.. Wether it be Einstein continuing an amazing streak of 38 years at the CCC T👏🏼, or Russo’s transformation of shredding lbs and becoming a runner through this last year of COVID, perhaps most importantly Cowbell breaking his record this week of being on time for the start of every beatdown 😬 (Alexis aka Brains for loaning the Audi)🤪 that must be the reason? Maybe it’s Jose10k and the past 60 plus streak of beatdowns I believe it was with inspiration of course from Zoolander with the sweat gallon challenge 🤢… My skin still itches for you Zoo!! However considering your one armed modified Merks or your Murphs in true form with a ruck sack I am sure your armor repelled the acid filled jug with ease… I look forward to seeing you guys crush the H8 in the Gloom, as I know my evil wish will NOT deter any of you from showing up or showing out or perhaps showing off as we meet at the Lakefront tomorrow for a Turbocharged Turbo tax Q!!

    Brief warmup
All 10IC Grass grabbers, Torso twists, Cherry pickers, Toe touches, Imperial walkers and Seal Jacks.

Moseyed over to the front or rear Tax payor funded fortress of a Justice center to Qs parked car. Retrieved our coupons with the perfect number of six.
    Instructions simple
“Ring of Fire” check out the Exicon for details.

    Short order alternating Blocks/Cardio
Squat thrusters, Bench box jumps, Shoulder press, Sister Mary’s, Curls, Apollo Onos, Chest press, Jumping Knee tucks, Block clean and jerks, Sprint up stairs and return to R/R 2 full rounds of all 10 and pressed for time we got back to the first 4 for the final round.. 24 sets of AMRAP with time blocks of 1 min…

Returned to the top of the garage right on time to count-off, announce and YHC closed out the COT with intentions of awareness of Mental health Month for May..

Always enjoy the Gloom with you men and appreciate the accountability!!

    PAX
    Cowbell, Einstein, Jose10k, Russo, Zoolander

  • Last day – from Shooter

With a 2 week break from the A1c I arrived at the top of the Justice center garage with 2 fellow PAX ripping out knerkins to reach the last day goal set by Zoolander at 3100. YHC although not part of this months ISI decided to pick a workout that would help his brethren obtain the remaining 600 reps. With Jose 10k clearly adding to his chest circumference from this challenge and not wanting to get him started with the usual grumbling I decided to only mention the notice here in the backblast 🤪🤪.. Great work Jose10k. T👏🏼 to Hammer for the commitment as well as the rest of the ISIers out there who accepted the challenge midway through April..

    Warmup
15IC Grass grabbers, Windmills, SSH, Imperial walkers and Torso twists.

    Work
PAX grabbed a coupon to take down a level for use of modification or intensification. Learning that the ledge on the 2 level needed for one of the exercises was still to high for even our tallest PAX of the day we dropped the base level to begin..

Started with “Jackass Burpee Web” consists Burpees to 10 followed by 2 Donkey kicks off the wall.. Suggestion accepted from Cowbell to descend rather than ascend was gratefully welcomed by the Q.
    10 Burpees 2 kickoffs, 9 Burpees 2 kickoffs, 8 Burpees 2 kickoffs………………to 1 and 2..
Cardio definitely kicked off by this point. Appreciate you Tanked up for the slow…. 10 count needed for the YHC. PAX assumed position by the hanging ledge for the “Cindy Crawford” 5 pull-ups or block presses, 10 Merkins (block or not),15 squats (block or not), 20 LBCs and 25 Toe raises.. AMRAP for what’s supposed to be 30 mins or 20 rounds for completion.. We only had time for 23 mins in which most PAX reached 10-11 rounds within the allotted time.. YHC has no doubt had the challenge been issued to complete this group of men would have surly gone Beast mode but instead it was consistent movement with chatter of the future GoRuck on 11/12/21 and before long time had expired. Returned to the top with our coupons and closed with alternating right elbow left knee F/J and one hundred 100s..

    Count, announce, COT

    Appreciate #tankedup, #franky “C” 👋🏼#wolverine, #punisher, #gladiator, #100miler, #futureGoRucker 😬😬 for the close out in prayer..

Thanks for following my lead gentlemen and till the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Squat, Lunge, Squat – from Einstein

I posted this backblast last Friday, but it was rejected.
I’m guessing too many swear words were in the original version, and it was rejected. (probably rejected from that guy who went to Notre Dame)
I’ve been binge-watching “Trailor Park Boys,” and have developed what my Dad used to refer to as a “bankrupt vocabulary.”

Anyways, here is how it went:
    Short disclaimer …
    Warmup:
all 20xIC: SSHops, TTouch, WMills, IWalkers, HBillys, SJacks, GMornings, SLove, CPickers, BKicks

Partner up for; 100 jump squats, 200 right foot in front of left foot lunge, then left foot in front of right foot lunge, 300 wide angle squats.
While one partner was squatting, the other partner sprinted half the distance of the parking garage deck, jogged the other half, then back-peddled the whole distance back.
Then the partners flip-flopped, keeping the count total going.

Two minutes of Mary; included flutter kicks, and crunches

Count-o-rama, MobyDick leads us out with a prayer.

Thanks guys for letting me lead today.

  • Watch your step? – from Shooter

Ailing all week with the potential diagnosis of a broken foot YHC got the news Thursday he needed too go ahead and shed the boot 🥾 he had worn the previous 3 days.. Only problem now is the arrival and center stage monkey humper position of “Turbo Dawg” to lay out a Hershey squirt right in the center of the PAX. Which for whatever reason would find the PAX once again circling up around the damaged section of concrete for count and call and the addition of him emptying his bladder as if his territory was not marked up enough. “Watch your step!” Zoolander. YHC must have known the gloom would have presented these moments as Jose 10k arrived mentioning the fact of how his week started with a deranged axe 🪓 yielding fellow swinging it above head as the school week began. Be sure to ask him the next time you see him. As for the rest of us on top the parking garage we couldn’t resist the mention of #Floridaman by Russo to start reminiscing of the days of W&J broadcasting on B97 as Hammer recalls. The enormous “B” inflatable could be seen around town at car dealerships and on site broadcast events all around the Metro NOLA area and if there are still any 10% out there check them out on the 99.5 weekday mornings..

Alright enough mumbling we can save for F2 at the Waffle House where the rest of the #floridamen meet before getting there assignments.. No judgement here just something I heard mentioned worthy of noting….

    Warmup
All IC 10 Arm circles F/J, Cherry pickers, Toe touches, SSH, Windmills and Torso twists.

    Thang
YHC parked his certainly Manly and always roomy Honda FIT a floor below with coupons for the beatdown. Stations were set with the dice of doom, jump rope, Ruck plate, the Black mystery bag, a wagon and a selection of light and heavy cylinder blocks..
2 men alternate turns wheeling there fellow brethren up the ramp in the wagon completing a burpee at the top and returning for their pull back up. Rest of the PAX alternate through the station’s completing one arm plate swings, rolling your own destiny with the dice of doom, jumping rope, curls for the girls, squat thrusters, Tri-extensions and bag carries up and down the stairs.. Every man made it through each station and we finished with 3 mins to return the coupons to the FIT.

We assembled back up top for countarama, namarama and COT with Russo closing us out in prayer.. Not quite sure why the PAX assembled back where we did, however I appreciate that we did because it certainly assisted with the naming of this backblast.

Thanks for following my lead and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Try to Make It Better, Keep Learning from Your Mistakes – from Bushwacker

Last week YHC picked up the Q at the A1C after a long absence. The iron was present, the core was tested, and QIC walked away happy, yet unsatisfied. So with building upon that success in mind, it was time to double down! Same iron, same core, more exercises plus cones. But sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men go awry.

    WARMORAMA

x10 IC: Windmills, T Stretches, Torso Twists, Hairy Rockettes, Imperial Walkers

    THANG

What was SUPPOSED to happen: With 5 cones spread out across the length of the parking garage and a pair of 20lb dumbbells, 45lb dumbbells, a 25lb plate and a 45lb plate at one end. Each man would walk/run the length with a designated weight while the rest of the PAX did various core exercises. At each cone on separate turns(there AND back) would be: 5 Burpees, 10 Merkins, 10 Squats, 10 Sister Mary Katherines, 10 Torso Twists, 10 Mountain Climbers, 10 Squat Thrusters, and 10 Kettle Bell Swings.(See, could’ve been worse, huh guys?)

What ACTUALLY happened: With such a strong showing It took us nearly 30 minutes just to get through the 1st exercise! QIC didn’t audible soon enough, but when I did two men went at a time, it went from 5 to 4 to 1 cone, and it was exercise on the way there and walk/run back. With these changes we still only got through the Burpees, Merkins and Squats before time experied.

    COT
With no time for Mary, the COT capped by Einstein’s prayer was all we could fit in. From what was SUPPOSED to happen you can see YHC had intended some strenuous coupon work, but for the best of reasons it simply was not quite to be. Regardless, the attendance and effort are both appreciated and applauded. Well done gentlemen!

  • A la Moby – from Bushwacker

It’s been too long…I’ll be missing a lot of F3 in the next few months…Jose’s a nagger. Take your pick, but YHC felt it was high time he made an appearance at the A1C (2nd of the year?) and as Q at that! Now there has been frequent talk and use of “coupons” lately. So much so, in fact, that the warning to “bring Gloves” has simply become assumed. The problem is that Q is NOT a fan of cinder blocks. They scrape forearms and lead to poor form – simply not ergonomic enough for a former weight lifter (yea yea boohoo). So, Inspired by a favorite beatdown, “Moby’s heavy-ass chain”, YHC brought a 50lb &30lb pair of doumbbells, as well as x2 25lb, 35lb, & 45lb plates!

    WARMORAMA

This time inspired by Turbo Dog, we started off with (IC x10): Squats (sans poop), High Knees, T-Stretches, Torso Twists, Air presses, and Self Love.

    THANG

With the plates on one end of the garage roof and the dumbbells at the other end, the PAX split up to either side. One man would carry any weights of his choice, so long as each hand was gripping metal, and move from one end to the other in any fashion he found sufficiently challenging. Meanwhile the rest would be doing a core exercise, changing each time someone returned with weights. There was walking and running, while doing shoulder presses, shrugs, flies, arm swings, or just carrying. While on the ground, you name it, someone did it. There were even games of keep away and fetch thrown in for good measure!

    MARY
We finished with 2 minutes to spare, and the PAX were kind enough to grab the weights and return them to the back of my truck.

    COT
BBQ prayed us out and all was right in the world! Thank you guys for rising to meet my ergonomic challenge and start the day out right.
