I have no hope for the Saints this season.

  • Back in the Saddle – from Rudy

Been a while since YHC has been Q’ing regularly. Time to get started again, and what better place than one of YHC’s favorite locations – Okwata. Even dug the flag out of the shed and shoved it in the back of the mini. And with that, 4 PAX started off in the morning gloom.

Thang 1 (after a brief warmup): 11s with Bobby Hurleys (along the water). Mode of transportation is the bear crawl. Lots of griping – but Hawg, I’m doing what I can to help the PAX prep for the great 2023 bear crawl.

Thang 2: Up and over the levee at Canal St. Hand Release merks at the bottom, Situps at the top, Slow Squats on the bottom of the other side. Cross over and repeat. Got about 2.5 cycles in.

Thang 3: Mosey along the levee to the crawfish-laden-House-of-Pain. 2 PAX head down to get 5 Pull Ups, then Bernie Sanders back up to the top. The other PAX head down the other side for 5 Big Boys, then Bernie back up – LBC waiting on the pull-er-upp-ers. Rinse, repeat. Everyone got 2 rounds in. YHC quads were definitely burning.

Back to the flag, made it in time for a 90 second low plank to get us to the full 45 minutes. I did not want to short change anyone.

Thanks for joining me in the gloom. Cheers to Okwata, especially when its dry!

  • We Only Lost One – from MANCHOVY

We started simply enough with 24 PAX and a mosey to the field in front of the zoo for a warm-o-rama which included SSH x 20, arm circles forward and backwards x 12 each, Windmills x 15, Peter Parkers and Parker Peters x 15. Then it was over to the Audubon statue for BLIMPS.

Following the BLIMPS it was over to the levee for 7s with squat jumps at the bottom and Jack Webbs at the top of the levee. Afterwards we planked on the railroad while the PAX on the end did 5 merkins, ran to the end of the line, and re-planked. After two rounds it was back to the statue for right and left leg step ups, dips and a round Mary. We lost one PAX sometime during the above.

We returned to the flag for count-o-rama with 23 PAX, the name-o-rama and welcomed FNG #Slow Poke .

  • Where are the MAINE-IACS? – from Reluctant Yankee

17 PAX answered the CALL to be part of the PACK at Wolfpack MTN
Ran straight to base of WPM
At WPM – we started with a warm up COP
SSH, Imp Walker squats, Roaches, Merks x 20

Immediately up the stairs to the top of the MTN – and we prepped for a
    DIRTY MACDEUCE
    4 exercises times x 12 – quick
    LAP 1:
Squats – Wide Merks – Flutter – LBT
Then we ran a loop down the stairs – and then up the other stairwell
**Modification was to remove a few floors if you need to
    LAP 2:
Lunges – JLO – Hello Dolly – Rosalita
Then we ran the stair loop
    LAP 3:
Back lunge – Shoulder Taps – Peter Parker – Parker Peter
Then we ran the stair loop
    LAP 4:
Side Lunge – Oblique Crunch Right – Oblique Crunch Left – Plank Jacks
    Then ran the loop

As soon as we got to the top – we ran back down to the benches.
Dips, Left/Right Power ups x 20, 10- Decline Merks on your own

    Back to the FLAG
Today is 9/9 but I wanted the guys to think about 9/11 and the stairs – every time we run them I think of men who ran towards danger instead of to personal safety. I prayed for us to men of action in all situations.

    Random mumblechatter:
Where are the MAINE-IACS? Bunch of PAX on a “retreat” at Douilles house in Maine
Angie’s List had his total workout coffee clatch- dude does not stop talking unless we do 50 burpees in a row
El Wire was obsessed with Gump looking like the Villain from Kindergarden Cop
Quincy made it back out to the GLOOM
Double Dutch kind enough to join us from OUT OF UPTOWN

  • Special Teams – from Tinkles

The pax was still mentally numb from watching LSU put the special in special teams late into Skinny Eve. Despite that, 15 strong showed up at 5:30 on Labor Day for a great start to the day. The game chatter at least helped pass the time and good beat down was had by all.

Warm up: arm circles forward and back, SSH, IW, Mountain Climbers, Squats

Beatdown: ran around the loop mixing Indian runs with individual tempo work. Swept the 6 and stopped for merkin ring of fire, bench work, some Mary, and lastly 10 burpees.

Back at the flag with some time to spare and plank work.

Count off, namorama, intentions. Well done fellas!

  • Less Than or Equal to One Man Left Behind – from Tinkles

Last week we had some aggressive workouts. Llama is still somewhere on the golf course. We think he will be back. With that in mind we stayed centered on the flag but were still able to get some quality time in!

    Warm Up:
    SSH x 30, IW x 20, FAC x 20, RAC x 20, Mountain Climber x 20.

    Beat down:

1/2 mile loop with station for 30 LBCs, 20 Squats, 10 Merkins. Pax covered a range of 2-3 miles.

Count off, Namorama (Welcome FNG Wilson!), Intentions, Prayer.

  • Mini Murph Mountain Misogi – from Sandbar

YHC was so impressed with and envious of the 55K Pax (way to go @Rudy!) that I started thinking how we could reach for something strenuous in the 45 minutes of WPM. A ‘misogi’ is a pop exercise physiology term for an physical endeavor that is intended to extremely challenging and perspective changing. I think the 55K was exactly that. Two rules with misogi: they should have maybe a 50% chance of success, and nobody should die. Check out Michael Easter’s book, “The Comfort Crisis” for a great piece on this.

On August 23, 2019, YHC introduced The 5 Mountains to WPM, with ‘mixed’ results. The PAX have revisited that path several times over the last 3 years, but the opportunity was there to expand on that base. Given the 8/23/2019 experience, YHC urged the PAX to pre-hydrate and buckle up.

We gathered in the gloom and YHC insisted the PAX organize in groups of 4 of similar speed – one to run for help and two to carry the body.

YHC laid out the route between the 5 mountains, but with 10 burpees at the bottom and top of each mountain. That’s a burpee century if your counting @bolt ! Then YHC added some lagniappe – a stop off at the ROTC pullup bars for a quarter Murph (with no vests, but about 3.25 miles running). 25 pullups, 50 merks, 75 squats. YHC also urged the PAX to stays in groups and modify as needed.

I had no idea if this was possible in 45 minutes.

YHC set off with @couch, @king kong, and @meatball. The other PAX were close on our heels. After the first 2 mountains, we checked our time and decided to go for the Murph as well. At mountain #3 (Reilly garage) YHC started to feel a little woozy near the top. By the 4th mountain, merlot was tickling my tonsils. After the ascending burpees at Mountain #5, it was just about putting one foot in front of the other to get up the stairs. By then there was a welcome pouring rain to cool us off.

And back to the flag. 44 minutes and 30 seconds. We did it. Thanks to the PAX for accepting a friday morning CSAUP challenge.

COT and @king kong asked everyone to send birthday wishes to his wife. Man is he going to regret that one. Btw, shout out to our PAX @Lulu, who is one of the engineers at Boeing working on the Space Launch System for NASA -Michoud. Looks like they will send a rocket to the moon this week. Sometimes it IS rocket science.

  • Fore! – from Landing Strip

I thought I was dusting off an oldie-but-goodie with a morning run/workout through Audubon Golf Course, but low and behold MacGyver beat me to it a week or so ago. Nevertheless, we persevered…

    Warmup
We moseyed over to in front of the clubhouse for the following exercises:
    -20 x SSH
    -15 x Forward Arm Circles
    -15 x Self Love

    Tha Thang
We then moseyed through the course, hole-by-hole. Each hole was accompanied by an exercise, with reps to match the # of the hole. But we waited for the 6 to finish that # of exercises before moving on. Make sense? Yeah, it was kind of confusing out there as well.

    Here were the exercises:
    1. Burpee(s)
    2. Diamond Merkins
    3. Mountain Climbers
    4. Wide Arm Merkins
    5. Peter Parker
    6. Incline Merkins
    7. Parker Peter
    8. Decline Merkins
    9. Air Presses
    10. LBCs
    11. Flutter Kicks
    12. LBTs
    13. Hello Dollies
    14. J-Los
    15. High Planks (didn’t get to these)
    16. Low Planks (didn’t get to these)
    17. Mission Impossible (didn’t get to these)
    18. Big Boy Situps

We were a few minutes late back to the flag, and there were some stragglers / bathroom breakers, but all in all, a solid workout wherein 5k+ was covered!

  • 55k Pregame – from Landing Strip

The goal this morning was to meander the AO through the park on the way to meet Rudy and his 55k krewe…so that’s what we did!

    -20 x SSH
    -15 x Self Love

    -15 x Hillbillies

Then we moseyed across the track to the Drew Brees Playground for a station workout with the following activities:
    -Pull-Ups
