  • Did someone ask for sprints? – from Shooter

The Scramble had a great showing today of regulars.. There was also hopes of an FNG on this Gloom, however we will need to wait and see if he decides to eventually take the Redpill..With remembrance of Chewy from long ago post bringing out the HIT type of runs YHC incorporated some sprint action at the corner of Monroe/Massena.. PAX started with some 10IC Windmills, Toe Touches, Imperial walkers, Grass grabbers, High knees, Butt kicks and 10 OYO slow squats. Then 6 PAX ran out the standard route making 1 loop and then met up with our 2 Ruckers.. We split into 2 groups about 100yds apart group 1 held mission impossible while group 2 sprinted then yelled to release and assumed Al Gores R/R 4 rounds.. PAX then added some distance where we back pedaled then turned and sprinted added some more distance R/R. Added more distance for 2 rounds of 25, 50, 75 and 100%.. Ruckers returned to Rucking and runners completed another loop and returned.. Graciously Waterpik hung back with the ole sluggers as we headed back. Arrived right on time to close with count, announce and COT..

Appreciate the great show of support for my Q and until the next Gloom šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼āœŒšŸ¼!!!

  • Did someone ask for Cilantro? – from Shooter

Well, I know if you’re reading this you might be wondering what on earth does Cilantro have to do with a beatdown? Simply put, Rucking allows for us Bigger guys, often called pumpkins šŸŽƒ or other nicknames depending on who may post to discuss many topics…
So, the topic for the day of course was included with the question. What is Cilantro good on? The obvious being Mexican food.. Tacos, salsas, marinades, etc. However, with the recent opening of Mandeville drive thru crawfish recently, Qs taste buds are trying to pin point the secret ingredient used and believes this to be in fact Cilantro.. If any outsiders have the scoop on the above, please share.. YHC may have convinced JV to give it a shot this weekend in one of his boils, as a our mud bug season is officially off and running…
If you have not tried the drive thru crawfish, I certainly suggest giving it a shot as myself and Russo both agree they are consistent and delicious even if Cilantro is not apart of the recipe… Waterpik and Bushwacker seem to have a more balanced conversation as they were still chattering upon the Ruckers return..

    Warmup
    5 Navy seal Burpees
10 IC Imperial walkers, grass grabbers, Abe Vogadas, bridges, wife pleasers and monkey Humpers..

Ruckers rucked and runners ran for about 30 mins and then we returned for 5 more Navy seal burpees and equipment work controlled by pull-ups of 10 each PAX, sit-ups, chest press, freak nasties and leg ups.. Finished core with 15IC flutter kicks, hello Dollie’s and Rosalitas..

    Count, announce and COT

Thanks to Russo for taking us out and until the next Gloom šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼āœŒšŸ¼!!!

  • The Nightmare “After” Christmas – from Grundy

Twas 14 nights AFTER Christmas, and though a baby delayed, the Nightmare debt from ’22 was repaid.

This workout tests one’s fortitude, for none participating can hope to elude; the pain derived from such a foolish endeavor, the fullness of which takes days to discover. Every inch of your back will ache once you’re through, your shoulders destroyed, and your core won’t work too. And what, might you ask, is the reward for this pain? A $5 beer from the man you ā€œdisdainā€.

This year was Hogs breath, Jose, and JV. The lone first-timer True Coat and your host, Grundy

What we completed can be hard to comprehend, here’s the list of what we did by the end…

    150 burpees
    2 miles of running
    150 man-makers
    2 miles of rucking
    100 Merkins
    100 Sit-ups
    100 Squats
    100 4 count SSHs
    100 4 count mountain climbers
    100 4 count flutter kicks
    100 Ruck Presses
100 2 count Ruck twists (American Hammers)
    100 Ruck Pull Throughs

Jose intensified this workout yet again; it makes me think that when he’s cut, he pours on it cayenne. In years past Jose ran miles beforehand, this year he did burpees on his knuckles, drawing pity for his poor hands. And yet, it’s just another crazy thing he’s done throughout the years; Jose’s intensity has always earned respect from his F3 peers.

True Coat hails from the state of Minnesota, he smiles so often that you may think he does so to fill a quota. He squats deeper than most and always seems to do things the right way; every workout puts his grit, strength, and character on display. I feel that True Coat’s shown what working hard in life will getcha; respect, friendships, and the only right way to say ā€œYou betcha!ā€

Hogs Breath shared a tale from when away in a foreign land, a tale that I’ll keep cryptic here (once you’re older I can expand). To keep it rated G, I’ll share it like the story of the Grinch, a task one might find difficult, I can manage in a cinch. So ā€œwhat was the tale?ā€ Well, in F3 circles they will say – that the Hogs breath’s small ā€œheartā€ grew three sizes when away.

JV’s future might take off literally to the sky, and if he’s ever ā€œtop gunā€ someday, I won’t need to wonder why. The ā€˜Stache we’ve seen before from him allows one of two careers, let’s pray to God he flies a plane, the other would make moms tear. But looks aside, the reason he’ll ā€œlandā€ in places one would envy, is that when you need a friend (or help), you can always count on JV.

The pain is high, and the reward seems lacking, but most who were there knew what they were attacking. The men (minus True Coat) knew what was in store, for all had completed this workout before. So, if you’ve never done this workout, please add it to your wish list, for all finishers come to love the Nightmare “After” Christmas.

See you all in December of 23’!

  • A whole lot of Rucking going on! – from Shooter

This beautiful gloom provided more Ruckers than Runners. Heck we even added a Slinger to the group for good measure.. There was plenty of mumble chatter before the PAX got underway, but the most notable was the fact that Speedy was fresh off a Personal best performance over the weekend finishing his marathon at 3:15.00.. This young HIM has literally taken HUGE strides over these past few years… So much so that when YHC shares gym time with Tanked up that’s all he talks about.. Glad to have you amongst us Speedy and to watch you grow in many ways.. Keep pushing!!

    Warmup
Mix of 10-15 IC of Cherry Pickers, self love, Toe Touches, SSH, Windmills, Scorpion kicks, and Superman’s. Finished with Al Gore pose around for 10sec count..

    Thang
Speedy and Waterpik took to the streets journeying through Mandeville coming up Girod street.. Probably logged close to 4.5 on the Gloom and I am most certain there was some great Mumble chatter shared with the always motivated and enthusiastic Waterpik..

The 3 Ruckers and 1 slinger logged a little over 2 miles and we returned over the time. So we had a quick count, announce and COT..

Always enjoy the Gloom with you HIMs and until the next šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼āœŒšŸ¼!!!

  • Ramble at the Scramble – from Russo

Mid 60s and overcast this morning, but no rain to speak of as a Pax of 9 gathered to run or ruck. Some things become old hat, which denotes old fashioned, predictable, uninspired, but to me its connotation is comfortable, stable, and reliable. Maybe not the best for pushing ourselves each and every week, but it will do well on a Thursday morning.

Warmup (all 10x -15x IC, except for Whacker who’s on IR)
    – SSH
    – Self love
    – Toe touches
    – Grass grabbers
    – High Knees
    – Butt Kicks
    – Imperial squat walkers

    Thang

5 runners (Bird, Pik, Speedy, Steve, Zoo) and 4 Ruckers (JV, Shooter, Whacker, YHC) took to the streets for ā€œnormalā€, classic, traditional routes with maybe a twist or two thrown in.

Rucker conversation included casinos, Metairie traffic, fabric softener, LA looks hair products, Mardi Gras, and Italian food, in addition to making continued progress on solving all of the world’s problems.

COT, Count, Name-O-Rama, Announcements, and Prayer closed us out.

Special intention to F3 Knoxville on the passing of Cardinal and a reminder to us all to keep an eye out for each other.

Gents, thank you for reading and joining. My goal is to Q each of the AOs this year (maybe not the Au Lait with the Sabbath and all), so 2 down, 5 to go.

  • Nutcrackers part II: it’s new to you! – from Russo

Right at 67 degrees and muggy for our first trip to Granny’s in the new year, where we welcomed the returns of JV and MeatSweats, as well as semi-regular Chewy and Site Q Steve.

Back when network TV was still somewhat of a thing, I remember NBC ran a series of commercials touting their popular shows that were in reruns with the tag line ā€œIf you haven’t seen it, it’s new to YOU!ā€

What a brilliant way to market warmed up leftovers, so I stole that thought today with a ā€œIf you haven’t done it yet, it’s new to youā€ beatdown incorporating bricks.

    Warmup (all 10-15x IC)
    – Seal jacks
    – SSHs
    – Toe touches
    – Grass grabbers
    – High knees
    – Self love
    – Imperial walkers

    Thang

Tabata: 1 minute each with bricks, 30 seconds rest, 2 rounds, with some moseying before each one.

    -Arm curls
    -Cherry pickers
    -Hallelujah squats
    -Arm circles
    -Triceps extensions
    -Milk maids

Nut crackers down the columns (where Chewy decided to break out his best ā€œHULK SMASHā€ impersonation and crush one of his with his bare hands), followed by 11s: Crunchy Frogs and Merkins with the bricks.

COT, Name-o-Rama, and prayer closed us out. Remember Grundy’s Nightmare looks to be scheduled for this Sunday around 1. Check Slack for confirmation or more info.

    Until the next time, SYITG.

  • Finally the clock rolled back for someone!! – from Shooter

As I turned into the parking lot at the AO, YHC almost had to pause as the sight of an F150 idling with its lights on sat. It was almost like seeing some atmospheric event in my lifetime as there is no way this could be Cowbell.. But to my surprise and the surprise of the rest of the PAX it indeed was Cowbell.. Only conclusion that could be drawn was he finally rolled back his clock for daylight savings..

    Warmup
15IC Seal Jacks, Butt kicks, SSH, Toe Touches, Windmills, Grass grabbers and alternating leg swings front/back side/side..

    Thang
2 runners and 3 Ruckers set out with a pause on Messina for 10 OYO worse merkins ever and 20 jump squats then resumed.
Returned for some core 10IC right elbow left knee F/J 20IC Flutter kicks and LBCs..

JV closed us out in prayer and until the next Gloom šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼āœŒšŸ¼!!!

  • Return to routine, including Bushwacker!! – from Shooter

6 PAX decided to post the Gloom at The Scramble for the return of routine.. No JV we will not meet at Messina and Monroe this time but may very well in the future, so resist killing the leg workouts at the gym till after Thursday’s.. YHC decided to instruct the sprinters in Waterpik and Bushwacker to make two loops will Chewy and I did one and the Ruckers to the gate and back…
Everything was routine, including Bushwacker running straight to the bathroom upon our return as the rest of us closed out with some stretching…

Appreciate the post gentlemen, including you Bushwacker šŸ˜and Chewy closed us out with COT..

    Until the next Gloom šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼āœŒšŸ¼!!!

Thank you for indulging me in part I of the Halloween fun, with part II on Friday, especially if you weren’t feeling 100% physically or mentally. That’s what makes you a HIM.

  • Smack talking at the Scramble!!! – from Shooter

5 PAX embraced the chill of a 2nd morning in the low 50s, however the hot air coming from the chatter quickly had to be put in pause, so YHC could get things started… This morning would consist of two groups. Cowbell and Waterpik ad the runners and JV, Russo and self were the Ruckers… If the conversation between Waterpik (TIGAS) and Cowbell (Hiddy Tiddy) was half as entertaining as Russo (TIGA) and JV (Fighting ā˜˜ļø) then I would say Steve missed out on an opportunity to come out and create a possible Netflix series… The name that comes to mind would be ā€œFan Fairā€ and it would run along side the college football season… Appreciate the entertainment and chatter gentlemen.

Warmup 15IC SSH, Grass grabbers, Toe Touches, Hillbillies and Butt kicks.
Runners did standard route as the Ruckers went out 18 min and doubled back.
Returned for some Mary Left and Right Elbow to knee, bridges, hello dollies, Rosalitas and Crawl 3-4 arm lengths out and return to plank.

Appreciate Waterpik praying us out with intentions for Zoolander and thoughts for Steve’s grandmother…

    Till the next Gloom šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘ŠšŸ¼āœŒšŸ¼!!
