  • It Was A Painful Morning – from Fast Tax

    Saturday, March 5, 2022
It had been almost a year since YHC Q’d Mothership so I was rather looking forward to it…at least Friday evening. After a long night entertaining the relatives and drinking waaayyyy too much wine, I finally hit the bed sometime around 1 or 2am. Needless to say, when the alarm went off at 6:00, I knew it was going to be a very painful morning. Nevertheless, Tax Credit and I managed to get there just in time.

After disclaimer was given, 8 Pax moseyed to the parking lot for some warmups consisting of SSH, Abe Vigodas, Nancy Kerrigans, and Hairy Rockettes. YHC’s inability to do the left side of the Nancy Kerrigans did not escape the attention/commentary of those in attendance…

Unwilling to jump right into the highly anticipated main event, YHC kicked things off with 50 ish yards of Welsh Dragons.
Welsh Dragons: While remaining in plank position, PAX bear crawls forward 5 yds, does 1 merkin, 1 plank jack, and tap the BACK of each shoulder 1 time. Repeat adding 1 rep to each exercise each 5 yds – bear crawl forward 5 yds, do 2 merkins, 2 plank jacks, 2 sets of back of shoulder taps… etc. We continued until we got to 10 reps each (I think), holding plank for rest of PAX to finish.

Next bit of fun was the Indian Crab Walk Snake with a crabby wife pleaser twist at the end.
Indian Crab Walk Snake: While lined up on your six doing LBCs, the guy in the back crabwalks to the front, weaving in and out of the PAX as he makes his way to the front where he performs two crabby wife pleaser merkins. As each PAX makes it to the front, the guy in back starts, at least in theory…It seems this proved too difficult b/c when YHC got to the front and looked back, there were at least three crabs heading his way.

With time to spare, YHC thought Indian Rabbit Hop , sure, why not…
Indian Rabbit Hop: PAX lines up, face down in plank position, all facing left with 2-3 feet between PAX. Last man broad-jumps over the planking PAX to the head of the line, Indian Run style. We continued cycling through until Q said stop.
After retrieving his balls and cones, and dishing out a few penalty burpees, we headed to the Great Lawn for BATTLE FRISBURPEE.
After a quick recap of the rules for PAX in attendance, we divvied up into teams and began to battle.

Team 1 (black shirts): Almonaster, Tax Credit, Willie, War Eagle
    Team 2 (non-black shirts): Boo-Boo, Fast Tax, King-Kong, Mahatma

The battle was hard fought and close…ish. Several PAX took advantage of the “last one touched” rule to strategically hit members of the opposing team that guarded too closely (mostly YHC), forcing them to stop and do 3 burpees. Almonaster learned (repeatedly) that you can be hit by the Baller even if you aren’t holding the Frisbee. Meanwhile, more than once, War Eagle’s demonstration of full-contact Frisburpee in a prior game was revisited on him and his teammates.

Even though YHC’s referee skills maintained a fair and level playing field, Team 2’s victory was decisive with a final score of 6 to 2.

With game over we headed to COT for name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.
Breakfast at Café Navarre followed for most.

    Thanks for the fellowship!

  • Mountain Grinder – from Mahatma

5 gathered on a cool morning the early conversation from Beloq was how he was beatdown by a……girl! Doing some sort of stretching so after a disclaimer and comfort zone encouragement we began with the “Scantron” for warm up X 2! Then
    Cherry Pickers x 10
    SSH X 20
    Side Lung Stretch

After that we slow moseyed to the base of the Wisner – 30 sec of Mnt climbers ascended 1/2 30 of sqt jumps ascended to the top 30 sec of wall sit with air presses – descended 1/2 way 30 of alt lunges descended to the bottom 30 sec of Carolina dry docks

Then down to choose a block for 3 rounds of AMRAP:
    #1 arms
    X 20 ea
    TriCep
    Curls
    Kettle Bell Swing
Then run quarter way up the bridge
    Most finished 2 rounds plus
    #2 chest
    5 Burpees
    20 push ups
    20 front raises
    Run
Again everyone finished atleast 2 rounds
    #3 core all with block
    X 20
    V Ups
    American Hammer
    LBC

Rtn blocks then start back with 6 stops similar to the route out ea with 30 sec exercise. Push ups, plank rotation low to high, wall sit with air press.

At the bottom mosey as s group back to the flag.

    Then COT

    Great to lead!

  • It’s Too Slippery…that’s what she said – from Fast Tax

    El Diablo – 2/16/22

Given the amount of unflattering commentary aimed in the Q’s direction prior to disclaimer, YHC knew it was going to be a day for penalty burpees. With disclaimer said, we moseyed out of the gate toward the rock pile. After the first stop for penalty burpees (Rudy), YHC called an audible and dispersed the warmups throughout the mosey to the rock pile: Abe Vigodas, mosey, Happy Jacks, punitive burpees (Hokie), mosey, Hairy Rockettes, final mosey to rock pile.

After medium to heavy rock selection, we headed to the football field for the first exercise of the morning and a Fast Tax favorite, Field of Dreams.

FOD: Partner up, PAX 1 begins to traverse the field as follows: lunge with rock to 25yd line, drop rock, do 10 merkins, bear-crawl to 75 yd. line, do 10 Crab Merkins (aka extended wife pleaser merkins, i.e. pushups while holding the crab position), lunge remaining 25 yds and do 50 BBS at goal line, repeat back. Meanwhile, PAX 2 does 15 rows, 15 curls, and 15 O/H press then runs to switch with PAX 1 (without bringing rock) who runs back and does the rows, curls, etc. Cycle repeats until they are back at the starting point.

William Wallace on the tennis courts, previously known as Rock the Court, was the next event, this time without rocks to avoid the wrath of the tennis pros.

WW: Divide into 4 teams, one at each corner. One PAX member from each team runs to the center and performs 10 reps of the first of five selected exercises (Burpees, Crab-Merkins, Plank Jacks, Floyd Mayweathers, and Absolutions) while the rest of the Pax are in a low plank (or other variations of plank). When he returns to his corner and low-planks, the next teammate runs to the center and does 10 of the same exercise. This repeats until all PAX on the team has had a turn, then the cycle repeats for the next exercise, and so on, until all five are complete.

With time to spare, we headed to the playground for the Playground Scramble , another chance for YHC to deny his 50 years by proving he could still act like a child.

The Playground Scramble went something like this: All PAX start in plank while first PAX soldier crawls up the spiraled tubular slide, down the ramp, through the small tunnel, then arm over arm across the monkey bars, across the balance beam, arm over arm across the next two overhead bar things then side scramble across the rock wall, all while not touching the ground. Anyone touching the ground had to do 20 burpees. Next PAX can start up the slide after the PAX ahead of him exits the slide at the top. PAX waiting at the beginning or the end had to do continuous BBS or plank until everyone made it through…at least that was how it was supposed to go.
I think only two or three PAX, including yours truly, actually made it up the slide, the rest complained about it being too slippery [that’s what she said] and that YHC only made it b/c he was scrawny, and other lame excuses… Needless to say, there were a lot of burpees being done.

As the last PAX completed the course, time was running out, so to the rock pile we headed, followed by a quick mosey to the flag for name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer. Coffeteria at PJs followed.

Thanks for the fellowship and the opportunity to lead!

  • Monday Audible – from Mahatma

After a disappointing Super Bowl game where Go-Devil lead another Rams team to a victory influenced by ref throwing yellow flags this time I was so looking forward to throwing rocks at RC. Yet for some strange reason just before hitting the I-10 ramp there was a thought to check the Q schedule (as I very seldom check emails on Sunday or early Monday, if in fact reminders are still sent) as to who was leading…….damn an Audible was just called as I see Mahatma was signed up to Q the scrum! Mindset changed now I had to floor it to make that journey to the “rough” side of Metry!
Burning rubber I enter the stadium parking lot to see 3 silhouettes standing in the wet grass scratching their head as if to be wondering if they had to call an audible for Qing amongst themselves yet as my truck comes to a stop and my shoes hit the deck……game on!

Quick disclaimer and a short mosey to the play set a short warm up ensued:
    25 SSH
    10 Mnt Man Poopers
    10 Side Lunge
    10 Imperial Walkers
10 Peter Parker / Parker Peters
All got on the parallel dip bar – 5 count
Same for the monkey bars – 5 pull ups

Mosey to the Performing Arts Bldg
Ascend to the “skybox” and pair up for a mini DORA:
    50 Merkins
    100 jump sqts
    150 dips
    Flip / Flop
Timer was to run down the ramp to the street and around to ascend the stairs back to the sky box. Max reps 25 then hold plank to wait – until we got to dips max out reps while partner was running.
Once complete we moseyed back down to the benches in front of the PA center 2 rounds of box jumps, decline , incline merkins , step up dips and split sqts.
Mosey to the parking lot for 5/11 (1 less then 66). 5 merkins at each lamp post X 11 with some form of made up animal movement between each post. When completed we moseyed back to the start. YHC grabbed his phone (hey this is Metry – NOT NOLA so leaving your phone on the curb is not a risk)!

Line up for an Indian run back to the play set finisher 2 rounds of 5 dead hang pull ups (assisted if needed) then 5 parallel bar dips.

    5 minutes of Mary:
    Gas Pumpers
    Big Boy Sit Ups
    Baby T’s
    And real scuba kicks

Back to the flag for COT

  • I Think We Needed Our Heads Examined – from Fast Tax

Six of F3 Nola’s finest displayed their true grit and stalwart character when they braved the subarctic temperatures and gale force winds to participate in another round of Battle Frisburpee at the Uptowner on Friday. Okay, maybe not gale-force winds and sub-arctic temperatures but it was 36F with light rain and a wind chill of 28.

After a hasty disclaimer, we moseyed to the driest part of the field for warmups, each of us quietly thinking to ourselves that we should have our head examined…

    Warmups:
Grass Grabbers, SSH, Bat Wings with MNC. YHC ditched the Swan Dives b/c that would involve getting wetter than we needed to.

Unwilling to jump right into the highly anticipated main event but trying to keep us warm, YHC kicked things off with Catch Me If You Can:
PAX partner up. Partner 1 performs 10 Merkins and then sprints to catch the Partner 2, who has been running backwards. Partner 2 now does Merkins while partner 1 runs backwards. The cycle continued until we finished a lap with YHC switching from Merkins to Crab Merkins.

Wanting to give the PAX some practice throwing the frisbee in the gale force winds, YHC selected Go Fetch as the next thang:
One pax throws a frisbee. All PAX sprint in that direction until frisbee lands. When it lands, all PAX stop and then lunge-walk until they get to the frisbee. First PAXD there gets to throw the Frisbee, rinse and repeat except change out lunge-walk with bear crawl, then back to lunge walk b/c it is too frickin wet and cold for bear crawls.

With 25 minutes to go, it was time for BATTLE FRISBURPEE.
Team 1: Fast Tax, Hand Grenada, Charmin
    Team 2: Bogie, Mahatma, Disclaimer

After a recitation of the rules for those PAX who were new to the game, we commenced. The battle was intense, in part because there was a lot more running with only 3 people per team and a lot more burpees were required due to the wind catching the Frisbee and PAXs’ hands being too frozen to function very well.

The game was tied with 3 minutes to go as the rain started to come down again. Marshaling their reserves, Team 1 (primarily Charmin & Hand Grenada b/c YHC was done in by that point) adroitly and tactically moved the Frisbee down the field to score the final point, winning the game 2-1.

With game over we headed to COT for name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.
    Followed by Coffeteria at PJs.
    Thanks for the fellowship! SYITG

  • Hawg and the Dummies – from Rev Sox

The Wally Run began at 5:15 with Hawg, Two Yutes, and YHC. Two dummies and the Captain of Who Dat? Hot and Spicy (or something like that). The dummies and hog ran 1.25 miles by 5:30 when the remainder of the Pax arrived.

The rest of the Pax started the run at 5:30 with numbers leaning heavily in favor of the Dummy Runners. Good showing team. It’s the Wally, so everyone ran until 6:15 followed by the count-off, name-O-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.

  • Bricks & Bats but without the bat – from Hokie

It was a very pleasant 62 degrees this AM upon our arrival to Bringing the wood except we had NO WOOD with @Fast Tax choosing to blow off YHC’s Q.

Thank you to the seven Pax who did show up and special thanks to Rudy for bringing a trunkload of bricks in his transport vehicle.

The disclaimer was followed with instructions for each Pax top grab two bricks and not let them go for the entire 45 minutes of fun

Moroccan night club, in cadence, x10

    Bob n weave (upper cuts) x 10

we then took a mosey to the track where we moseyed WITH Bricks in tow, from this goal line, through the end zone to the other goal line…. then ran backwards to the 50, mosey forward to the goal line, through the end zone and to the other goal line then sprint to the 50 and mosey to the starting point (1/4 mile loop)

Each time we finish the quarter mile loop, shoulder taps waiting on the six

That is 2.25 miles for Run Cajun Run participants

Circle of Trust where we named our FNG Charmin and lifeted up all those dealing with illness and especially those battling cancer.

As we started our mosey to the car, Fast Tax showed up and brought the wood and apologized for Benadryl and snoozing through alarms.

Thanks for the honor to lead

  • We ran – from Rev Sox

Some ran, some walked, it was the Wally Run. I have nothing else to add.
