  • Krazy Ivan IV: Speedy Sings, Fracsac Frowns – from The Hammer

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…for Fracsac apparently. The man who has a folder on his phone dedicated to the Freedom Hammer was crestfallen for a second year running. Bordering on tearful, Fracsac and his Southshore breathern had to witness a spritely Speedy Gonzales hoist the Freedom Hammer in triumph after the Northshore thumped the Southshore for the Crazy Ivan IV, 257 to 153. Precision results, thoroughly vetted and audited by the governing body, are as follows:

    1. Speedy Gonzales 31:22 (6:30 average pace)-recruited years ago by Jose 10k
    2. Amnesia 33:55
    3. In Time 34:07
    3. Cowbell 34:07
    5. The Hammer 34:34
    6. Saban 35:09
    7. Kuch 35:37
    8. Steve 36:45
    9. TankedUp! 37:20
    10. RevSox 37:36
    11. Sogo 37:47
    12. Hog’s Breath 40:25
    13. Thumb War 41:30
    14. Bongo (time between 41:30 and 42:43-you should have found me afterwards Bongo!)
    15. Snooze 42:43
    16. Pelican 42:44
    17. Shooter 43:34
    18. Flea 45:16
    19. BBQ 46.35
    20. Russo 46:55
    21. Jose 10k 47:38
    22. Pai Gow 49:55
    23. Baywatch (it was raining hard, lots was happening, Hog’s Breath was talking to me…sorry Baywatch I didn’t get your time)
    24. Belloq
    25. JV (not that JV, the other one) 55:19
    26. Kenner Brah
    27. McGiver

And honorable mentions to PickAxe and Chainsaw, The Hammer’s 2.0s, who finished the first lap together in a blistering 13 minutes.

Thanks for coming out guys. You all get a trophy for participating in this unequivocally, completely stupid and utterly pointless annual competition. YHC was thoroughly impressed with the total disregard for your personal wellbeing and safety and looks forward to a repeat performance same time next year. Over and out.

  • Run Foundry Run – from Snooze

Legs were heavy for those of us that opted to join Saban a day earlier on his sadistic 8.5+ mile jaunt through the city. Soreness be damned, though, because RCR is upon us. So let’s get some more miles in…

    Warm-up

We moseyed to the track for a brief warm-up consisting of: Side Straddle Hop x 20, Windmills x 15, Grass Grabbers x 15, Imperial Walkers x 15, Arm circles x 10 (both ways), and 8 count Body Builders x 10.

    The Thang

In order to avoid any PAX (YHC included) griping about puddles on the track, we moseyed over to the covered area in front of the Children’s Museum.

25 Merkins – 1 lap down the LCH ramp, around the traffic circle, and back (approx. 1/4 mile)
    25 Merkins, 25 LBCs – 1 lap
    25 Merkins, 25 LBCs, 25 Carolina dry-docks – 1 lap
    25 Merkins, 25 LBCs, 25 Carolina dry-docks, 25 LBTs – 1 lap
    25 LBCs, 25 Carolina dry-docks, 25 LBTs – 2 laps
    25 Carolina dry-docks, 25 LBTs – 3 laps
    25 LBTs – 4 laps

This was the plan, but we had to modify and cut it short due to time. After a mosey back to the flag and COT, we logged almost 3.5 miles.

As always, thanks for the opportunity to lead.

  • No Asses in the Grasses – from Baywatch

It was a nice, balmy morning at the lakefront as 10 PAX gathered for a beatdown. The pre-run Lakeview crew arrived with a minute to spare, including Breadsticks who was apparently worried that YHC had wet and grassy ideas. After disclosures were given, we moseyed around the fountain and over to the waterfront for a warmup as I assured the PAX grass wasn’t on the menu today.

    30 SSH IC
    25 Hillbillies IC
    15 Arm circles IC F/B
    15 overhead claps IC
    15 seal claps IC
15 concrete grabbers IC (had to make sure grass was avoided)

Next, we moseyed down to the bridge. All the Pax lined up facing the water at the top of the incline. While one PAX ran across the bridge and back, everyone else did decline merkins or flutter kicks. We rotated each round between merkins and flutter kicks.

After 6 rounds we moseyed over the bridge and a little further down the water front. We then did a 10 light pole doozy. We did 5 burpees at each light pole while alternating between bear crawls and jogging to the poles. So, we bear crawled to light pole 1, did 5 burpees, ran to light pole 2, did 5 burpees and so forth until we reached light pole 10 and completed 50 burpees.

Next, we moseyed back to the bridge for 4 more rounds of alternating merkins (inclined this time) and flutter kicks. Then it was back to the warmup spot for 25 step-ups, 20 shoulder taps, 15 dips, 10 squats, and 5 8-count bodybuilders.

To close it out, we did 20 dying cockroaches, 20 wife pleasers, and 20 leg raises. Then back to the flag for CoT.

  • Dough Nguyener Beatdown of the week – from Hokie

The slacker Q was moving slow and arrived at 6:31 and was grateful to Catfish for not cheating the Pax out of any of their workout

The warmup included 8 count body builders, SSH, grass grabbers, Imperial Walkers & Ascending Testicles

    1st round of the workout
10 burpees, run from pavilion to RR tracks & back
100 SSH, run from pavilion to RR tracks & back and circle the six

During round 1 the Q notices two pax were unable to participate in the runs so a quick modification was made. For all the following rounds, the non-runners would mosey the great lawn and the runs to RR tracks for remaining Pax were changed as follows

    Round 2
10 burpees, run from pavilion to Cafe du Monde & back
100 imperial walkers , run from pavilion to Cafe du Monde & back and circle the six

    Round 3
10 burpees, run backwards across great lawn & back
100 lunges , run backwards across great lawn & back and circle the six

    Round 4
10 burpees, run around great lawn & back
100 Merkins , run around great lawn & back and circle the six

    Round 5
10 burpees, run around great lawn stopping for 10 burpees in each corner

    Return to flag for COT

    CRAZY IVAN
    RUN CAJUN RUN

Prayers – Frac’s brother in law passed away at 45 after a stroke. Keep Frac’s sister, Jo, in our prayers.

After 7 Pax for the workout, we had 8 at Cafe Navarre for Dough Nguyener, Thumb War’s in-laws, King Cake

Thank you for opportunity to lead, sorry for being a slacker … reminder I was 1 minute late for the start … Q’s should post 15 minutes early! I apologize

  • 36 degrees, 36 reps – from Rudy

Brrr.. It was chilly this morning. There’s only one way to stay warm. That’s right – break out the Lucky Bear. That’ll keep YHC warm! But it definitely prompted some strange looks from the other folks getting an early workout under the shelter. BUT I WAS WARM.

The LVCC was apparently chilly, so Snooze, Mama’s Pride and Kuch waited as long as possible before emerging for the workout. Frac, confused by a large green fuzzy thing, joined the OTHER PAX for his pre-thang burpees. Baywatch, wearing 17 layers, looked almost as warm as YHC. And then Saban. Brave Saban wearing his shorts. What’s he thinking…

At 5:28, Mahatma decided that it was time for the workout to get started. Patience, big chief! At 5:30, YHC issued the disclaimer. And we were off.

Warm Up: some stretching, then SSH x36 (one rep for each degree that the Mini reported this am).

Thing #1: Lucky 7s. 7 minutes. Each minute, 7 burpees then finish out the minute with exercise that YHC names. Kuch was strangely quiet, after griping that his heart rate wasn’t moving during the warm up. FInish with 1 more burpee for an even 50.

Thing #2: Grab some bricks from the Mini, and lets head to the mountain. Going up and over, we’ll stop at the half-way, top, 3-quarter and bottom. At each stop, the PAX will do 36 reps. But… If you finish early, keep rep’ing until the 6 finishes the 36 reps. YHC won’t point fingers, but a certain jolly green figure was usually leading up the rear. Situps, Squats, Twists, American Hammer, Calf Raises, Carolina Dry Docks, Shoulder Taps and Newton Cradles.

OK, I GREATLY underestimated how hard 36 Newton Cradles (2 is 1) would be. That took a while, and several pauses. Yikes.

Mosey back to the shelter for 2 rounds of 18x Wonder Bras in the peoples chair.

COT: Prayers of comfort for Frac’s sister, having just lost her husband at too early of an age. Thanks, PAX, for dragging yourselves out of the warm comfort of your beds to start the day pushing me to be a better man.

  • All Day Baby……#2 – from Mahatma

All Day Baby…..(it may take that long to read this thing)
There is so much diversity in our Pax that if you stick around long enough you’ll learn something not only about various beatdowns but yourself as well!

This leads us to the gloom of today…..
YHC had an idea for incorporating a recent Rudy based beatdown and lore from recent grow rucks (and past military experiences) all designed to make a physically and mentally uncomfortable environment while pushing beyond a comfort zone.

Short disclaimer then mosey to the great lawn circle up for a quick warm up of SSH, windmills, grass grabers, side lunges and self love.

Then line up for craw-daddy’s where you start in a plank position bar crawl approx 10 yds perform 2 merkins and 2 double unders bear crawl another 10 yds then 4 and 4, bc then 6 and 6, bc then 8 and 8 now hold plank for the 6.

We are getting warm now! Oh look hear 5 blocks set up in a line – all pax line up in plank position shoulder to shoulder on the left of the blocks now side step plank across and over until the last pax completes the line HOLD plank once complete we went back the other direction!

Now warmed up the morning mission is given out pax divided into 4 groups 3 of 3 and 1 of 4 (Diddy Kong was the muscle of this group). Each group was to carry a block overhead at all time – if for any reason the block was lowered below eye level then the that team of pax had to do 3 burpees with instructions given we headed out for our objective – YHC left some additional blocks by the Stomp’s starting point to be retrieved – along the way YHC would have the groups stop for some varied exercises (blocks must be maintained in the overhead position). See a need for some change at some point YHC had PAX circle up and instructed that the blocks over head could be lowered yet there was some hesitancy by a few pax that thoughts this might be some evil trick to have them do burpees – not the case yet Rudy even requested YHC to make some ridiculous statement “Simon Says”. It was left up to his judgement to follow or not. From here we were close to a 1/2 point – so we pushed on – Once at the Stomp teams now retrieved 2 additional blocks that had to be farmer carried back with 1 Pax still keeping the other block over head. YHC realized he under estimated the strength of Vagabond and his gang as they seemingly toyed with their overhead block holding it with one hand while the rest of us grunted and mentally pushed through YET karma had her way when during an exchange their block dropped and so did they giving 3 punish burpees.

As we were 1/2 way back Snooze all of as sudden remembered he had leave 15 minutes early putting his team of YHC and Frac to ponder the thought of carrying the blocks solo! Well YHC being selfish attempted to push the pace apparently giving the impression he was looking past his teammate Frac but with all the chirping from the normal suspects of Bogy and Rudy (maybe War Eagle too but he often got sidetracked as many millennials do looking at text on his phone while he was supposed to be working). Anyway YHC knew Fracs strength to carry on!

Back at the great lawn we finished the adventure with some individual block exercises (and complaining) closing with some more block over block plank trains and 10 man makers.

As we returned to the flag YHC requested the blocks be returned to his truck where Rudy was defiant until he he heard “Simon Says”.

COT – prayers of gratitude and humility for serving others. Also recognizing the strength of joy in others as Tool is prepping for an 18 year birthday celebration for Speed-Racer.

    God Bless

  • Cold and Windy Tabata – from Snooze

Nine PAX decided to test out the adage that one can’t get cold while lifting cinder blocks. While I believe this still to be true, this adage clearly does not account for howling winds along with frigid temperatures. Despite lots and lots of coupon lifting, it was cold. Very, very cold.

    Warm (sorta) Up:

    SSH x 20
    Windmills x 10
    8 Count BBs x 10
    Self-love OYO

    The Thang

    TABATA!!

40 seconds of work; 12 seconds of rest; 4 rounds.

    1. Alternating Hand Block Merkins
    2. Goblet Squats
    3. Curl Presses
    4. Heavy Freddies
    5. Blockees
    6. Block Swings
    7. Overhead Press
    8. Block Flutter Kicks
    9. Block Merkins
    10. Block Lunges
    11. Block Rows
    12. Windshield Wipers

This took us right on into COT. As always, thanks for the opportunity to lead.

  • Closing the Year Out in Stylish Misery – from Baywatch

As most of the Lakeview crew knows, Baywatch loves his bear crawls. So, I was searching through the Exicon Tuesday night for something memorable (and miserable) and I found the No Mercy Mile. 2021 was merciless on many folks so I thought it appropriate to be the same for my last Q of the year.

5 PAX joined me in the gloom. We headed over to the track for the warmup:

    SSH 20 IC
    Imperial Walkers 21 IC
    Hillbillies 20 IC
    Low Slow Squat 22 IC

    The Thang—No Mercy Mile

We began at the mid point of front stretch on the track. Jog to turn 1: bear crawl to turn 2. Jog to mid point on back stretch. Do 25 merkins. Jog to turn 3: lunge to turn 4. Jog to starting point perform 25 squats. R & R three more times. At completion, we had bear crawled 400 yards, lunged 400 yards, performed 100 merkins and squats all while completing 1 mile.

We all finished the mile with a few minutes to spare so we circled up for 3 minutes of stretching. To finish it off and in honor of our fearless Nantan, Fracsac, we closed it out with 5 burpees.

Happy New Year! Thanks to you all for pushing me this year!

  • Foundered It! (Foundry 2021-12-22) – from Catfish

    Conditions – Rather Chilly

    The Thang
