  • 1/2 (Revised) Iron Pax Challenge – from Triple Shift

With a last minute notice from Mahatma that he couldn’t Q this morning due to a family vehicle mechanical problem, I called an audible and took the reigns.

    WARMUP
Head to the rock pile then to the field. The instructions were to grab a heavy rock but not everyone listened to my instructions (nothing new). Oh well, we circled up with some SSH x 20 IC, Low Slow Squat x 10, Tempo Merkins x 15, Forward Arm Circles x 10 IC, Reverse Arm Circles x 10 IC, Pretzel Arms x 10 IC, and finally, 10 Burpees IC.

    THE THANG
Due to the high humidity, the field was soaking wet, so I headed to the large oak tree on the other side of the track by the playground to do our thing. I’ve wanted to do this workout for some time and it is one I will always remember since (I believe) that was the first workout of the inaugural Iron Pax Challenge in 2017. The original workout is 50 squats, 40 Big Boy Sit-ups, 30 Merkins, 20 Bonnie Blairs (2 is 1) and 10 Burpees than run 400 meters x 4 for time. I vaguely remember that pax members in the nation were posting sub 20 minute times and I had to throw the BS flag on that!
Back to the workout. With the rock, we did 50 squats, 40 flutter kicks (2 is 1), 30 bench press, 20 Bonnie Blairs (sans rock of course), and 10 Blockees x 2. There was a great deal of chirping at the Warmup but quieted down pretty quick except when we did flutter kicks and bench presses with the abundance acorns on the ground.

    COT
Countoff, Namerama and closed with prayers for friends and loved ones dealing with significant diseases. Reminded the pax to be alert and observant for other men’s emotional and spiritual health this time of year. Let’s be providers of hope, encouragement and joy this Christmas season

  • Dejavu – from Mahatma

YHC did NOT want to get out of the sack. Yet it was on a verbal commitment to Bolt of taking the Q. Pulling up at 5:27 there was no sign of activity stirring in or around the bill pin – no last minute headlights. At 5:33 YHC made the decision OYO recovery – headed back to the house made coffee and enjoyed the quiet morning on the porch.

  • Uptowner Battle Frisburpee 11/18/2022 – from Fast Tax

Admittedly, YHC was a minute late to the AO…thanks to War Eagle for kicking things off.
Warmups were held in the middle of the field:
    Grass Grabbers
    SSH
    Hairy Rockettes
    Toy Soldiers
    Peter Parker
    Crab Merkins

To kick things off post-warmup, on this crisp Game Friday, we began with Red Barchetta.
Designed to get the heart rate up, much like the song by Rush of the same name, the Red Barchetta begins with PAX lining up on the end zone. The following can be done OYO or planking to wait for the six after each dash (we did it OYO): 100 Yard Dash then 100 SSHs, run back to start point; 75 yard dash then 75 mountain climbers, run back to start; 50 yard dash then 50 LBCs, run back to start; 25 yard dash then 25 Merkins, run back to start; 10 yard dash then 10 burpees, run back to start.

With 25 minutes left, it was Battle Frisburpee time.
Team 1 – Tiny Dancer, Fast Tax, Scantron, Triple Shift, and War Eagle
Team 2 – Bogey, Cyber Cajun, Pool Boy, PVC and War Eagle
War Eagle switched sides halfway through while Hokie and Vagabond were on injured reserve and couldn’t play.
Team 1 carried the day winning 4-3.
With game over, we headed to COT for name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.
    Thanks for the fellowship! SYITG

  • It’s Not Against the Rules – from Fast Tax

    The Uptowner 11/4/2022
After disclaimer, we headed to the field for warmups consisting of:
    Abe Vigodas
    SSH
    Hairy Rockettes
    Toy Soldiers
    Peter Parkers

To kick things off post-warmup, and since this was Game Friday, YHC thought, “Why not give PAX a little input into today’s exercises?” Turning to Clinger, YHC presented the options, Catch-Me-If-You-Can or Red Barchetta. Poor Klinger…unaware of the mechanics of either exercise, he chose Catch-Me-If-You-Can, unwittingly exposing himself to Mahatma’s derisive questioning as to why anyone would ever pick that. For Klinger and others who are not familiar, the exercise involved:
Separating into teams of 2, while PAX 2 ran backwards around the track, PAX 1 did 5 merkins and two burpees then sprinted to catch up, whereupon, PAX 2 did the exercises while PAX 1 ran backwards. This cycle was repeated until YHC made it all the way around the track.

The next exercise was Go Fetch.
YHC threw the Frisbee and all PAX sprint in that direction until the Frisbee lands. When it lands, all PAX stop and then lunge-walk until they get to the Frisbee. First PAX to the Frisbee gets to throw it. Rinse and repeat except change out lunge-walk with bear crawl, then the crab-walk, apparently not Mahatma’s favorite…then crab-walk again because someone who will remain nameless threw it only a few feet hoping to skip crabwalks and move on to something else.

With 25 minutes left, it was Battle Frisburpee time.
Team 1 – Boo-Boo, Fast Tax, Mahatma, Triple Shift, and Rudy
Team 2 – Bogey (aka Whiner), Klinger, Cyber Cajun, Pool Boy, and Rudy
[Clarifying note: Rudy switched to Team 1 with only eight minutes left.]
Team 1 led early, suffered a Saints moment, then rallied and prevailed, with a final score of 5-4.

Though YHC has heard many “creative” renditions of various aspects of the game, after consulting with the impartial referee, YHC determined that no rules were broken, () only Team 2’s spirits. Though there was some incidental albeit unintentional contact, it is YHC’s belief that such accidental collisions and inadvertent kicking of the Frisbee were more likely caused by the grass being slick.

However, to be fair, Team 2 did have a disproportionate share of rookies and there was a minor rule clarification – see below.
Rule clarifications aside, it was apparent to the referee that several PAX continue to ignore the rule on 3 burpees after your Frisbee goes out or hits the ground, etc.

With game over, we headed to COT for name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, some whining, and prayer.
    Thanks for the fellowship! SYITG

    Rule Clarification:
For strategic purposes, the team kicking off can elect to short throw the Frisbee, provided it lands beyond the halfway mark. If it fails to go beyond halfway, it is treated as a turnover (i.e. the opposing team throws it in from the sideline at the point it went out).

  • Not going to follow the rules – from Mambi

Met at the normal meeting place.
Gave the disclaimer and instructed PAX to head to the middle of the football field at Pontiff.

Hokie and Belloq separated from the group for a recovery workout.

A line from Fracsac’s BB, “Warmup with the regular stuff.”

Mosey to the nearest bench area. For Left step-ups, dips, and right leg step-ups. 16,12,8,4 reps.
Mosey to the front of the Gym (or back side) calf raises 3 different ways, merkins, 3 different ways. 16,12,8,4 reps.
Mosey to the next bench area. Deconstructed Burpee 3 different parts, Mary, 3 different exercises. 16,12,8,4 reps.
Mosey back to football field. Finished with suicides and a long sprint the length of the football field.
    COT

Thank you everyone for posting and for your thoughts and prayers.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”

    God Bless.

  • Burpeepalooza – from Bolt

An empty Q sheet required the site AO to take charge and ensure the PAX got their promised burpee count on this brisk Friday. Disclaimer given and mosey to the field for warmorama, Rapper’s Delight edition. The concept would be simple: musically driven burpees with various exercises between the chorus followed by various modes of movement. The execution, however, was severely hindered by War Eagle incessantly working only his jaw and Bogey—well, being Bogey. Despite the PAX’s best efforts, my iWatch said the beatdown was satisfactory and SOME of us completed 137 burpees.
Mosey to flag and circle up for “cool down” which according to SOME people was NOT: Al Gore long enough for Bogey to bitch about it followed by one minute of dying cockroaches and finish with a plank for less than a minute because War Eagle “claimed” time was up.
Proud to b part of this group and appreciate you men!
