Competition Saturday on the Northshore – from TruCoat

The Saturday North Shore beat down include two parts, an individual endurance test and then another grueling round in the flicker ball series on Pontchartrain Field.

In the first part of the workout, those assembled completed a multi-stage individual test of stamina. The event included (1) up to 12 sets of 10 x T-merkins, (2) up to 12 sets of 10 x squats + 1 big boy sit-up, and (3) up to 12 sets of 10 x lung-busting burpees. The challenge proceeded on a course of 12 cones arranged in a circle as a counting aid, and 7-minute rounds with the goal to complete as many of the 12 possible sets each round. After a 30-second rest, the clock reset, and the next round ensued for a total of 21 minutes. At the completion, each person calculated their total number of sets and gauged themselves on the achievement scale:
Batman level, 20 – 27 sets,
Superman level, 28-32 sets, and
Tank level, 33-36 sets.

Most achieved greatness, somewhere at the Batman and Superman level. Without the presence of Tank to motivate others to his level, the “Tank level” remained unclaimed, though Grundy with his weighted vest was ever so close.

The group transitioned to the Flicker ball field for a match of early year birthdays (Jan – Aug) versus later year birthdays (late Aug – Dec). It seemed the preceding workout and stifling heat were major factors, depleting many of their championship form. As expected, Zoolander pulled out his Beckham-like moves and Bushwhacker ensured his presence was felt with some well-time body checks. With time winding down, Wicket led out the charge involving a swift pass from Hammer to streaking Cowbell who bowled a perfect ball for the only score. Shooter came so close, hitting the pipe of the goal, though the ball bounced unfavorably to the side, possibly due to spirited southerly winds off the lake. As time expired, yet to be named new guy and avid tennis player, we will call him “ballz boy” for now, made a final push and at Steph Curry range made a strong shot that sailed just wide. Congrats to all for another hard-fought game in the series!
