  • Young at Heart – from TurboTax

With a combined age approaching 300, 5 young at heart PAX kick started their Wednesday with a tough one at The Gipper. A warm up of imperial walkers, shoulder taps, side straddle hops, Peter Parkers, seal jacks, Parker Peters, merkins and toe touches got the blood flowing for our mosey to the Justice Center.

It wasn’t the same without Steve, but somehow we managed a nice set of Bulgarian split squats combining isometric holds, dynamic movements and then plyometrics. Rinse and repeat but this time with incline merkins.

Lunge walk and bear crawl to the stairs for some Wile E Coyote.

Recovery walk to the mailboxes then some Mary: Scuba Steve’s, Nolan Ryan’s, flutter kicks, Superman’s, hello Dolly’s and jackknives.

Run with burpees at every light to the flag where we circled up for curtesy squats, single leg RDLs and good mornings.

Back to the stairs for a few rounds up and around and then a nice long walk sit.

Mosey to the shovel flag for a final exercise-a back plank.

Countorama, nameorama and Einstein prayed us out. Thanks for letting me lead guys. SYITG.

  • Kamara Ingram and Moby – from TurboTax

Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram have nothing on Moby Dick. At least that’s the way it looked from my perspective at The Gipper this morning. Allow YHC to explain.

After a quick warmup of toe touches, shoulder taps, windmills, Peter Parker’s, Imperial Walkers, Parker Peters and Seal jacks, the PAX made its way to the back of the Justice Center for the Thang.

Partner up with partner 1 executing burpees while partner 2 runs up and down the stairs to relieve partner 1. 50 burpees per team. Then we combined crossover runs first with 100 45 degree lunges and second with 200 simulated jump ropes.

We then brought the show to the front of the Justice Center for the main event. YHC laid out the cones and we sprinted, backpedaled, cut, juked and otherwise ran agility drills like any other professional team. It was impressive stuff I tell you, but Moby was particularly impressive. Like I said, Alvin and Mark are lucky the Saints scouts did not post this morning, or they might both be out of a job.

Thanks for letting me lead this morning guys. Always fun.

  • Getting a Tune-up!! – from Shooter

With the final week of IPC approaching at the mothership on Saturday YHC decided to bring a tune-up of sorts out to the Gipper.. We started out with a warmup of 10IC Windmills, Grass grabbers, Good mornings, Cherry pickers, Arm circles, SSH and Imperial walkers..

PAX moseyed around Covington to different locals for called exercises while partnering up at each stop..

First stop St. Tammany school board office for P1 wall sits 3x while P2 moseyed around the building.

Second stop front of the Justice center P1 step ups while P2 bunny hopped up each step R/R 2x.

Third stop back of Justice center where P1 utilized benches for Irkins while P2 bear crawled up and crawl bear down 3x.

Fourth stop first floor of parking garage for Donkey kickoffs P1 while P2 Carioca the flat and sprint back 2x..

Returned to the flag for 2 mins of plank and alternating left/right arm high plank..

All in all we kept the heart rate up with the moseying and enjoyed the tune up for Saturdays final IPC!!

    Count, announce, COT

Thanks to Fletch for the close in prayer and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Back in Black – from TurboTax

Good to be back at The Gipper after an extended absence and while YHC actually was wearing a white t-shirt this morning, “Back in White” does not have the same cache’ as “Back in Black.” So there.

White or black didn’t matter to the substance of the beatdown though. After a warmup of SSHs, shoulder taps, toe touches, Peter Parkers, seal jacks, Parker Peters, and windmills, it was off to Bedrock to kick off the Thang.

Small boulders were identified and lifted in 90 degrees planes of motion as the PAX either re-habed or pre-habed their shoulders.

Sufficiently warm, we moseyed to the Justice Center for an animal parade of sorts, Partner 1 performing an exercise (shoulder taps, plank reach throughs, 45 degree lunges, and curtsey squats) while Partner motored about 40 yards and back (bear crawls, reverse bear crawls, ostrich walks, gorilla walks, lateral lunges, crabwalks, and giraffe walks).

Back to the shovel flag for some Mary with dynamic back and the side planks.

Countorama, nameorama and then Einstein prayed us out.

Nice to be back in the PAX. Thanks as always for letting me lead.

  • Split Q (IronPax and Cakewalk) – from Russo

78 degrees to start today, and looking for any reason for positive weather news, (1) there was no rain and (2) it was slightly less humid than it has been. Really good start to the morning for a split Q of IPC week 0 and a birthday cakewalk.

    The order:

44 High knees (2 is 1, which YHC forgot right off the bat and thought “count by 2”, so thanks to Jose for keeping me honest. Math is hard)

    29 American hammers
28 Monkey Humpers (Happy Birthday JV!)
    27 Merkins
26 Smurf jacks (where we were joined by Ms. Cute Young Jogger, who either (1) felt bad for the old guys struggling to mosey and catch their breath, (2) knew it was JV’s birthday and wanted to give him an early birthday present, (3) was on a runner’s high and wanted to be friendly on a Saturday morning, or (4) some combo of all of the above)
    25 leg raises
    24 Rosalitas

COT, name-o-rama, announcements, and prayer closed us out.

Thank you, gents, for either joining me or pushing yourself hard with IronPax. And a larger thanks to each of you for not only pushing me harder, making me better through your example, and providing friendship for 4 of my 44 years, but for being a light in your families, work, and communities.

  • Kickball Redeaux – from Akbar

21 strong at the Lakefront for a redeaux of Kickball. This time, it was simple.

    Conditions
Wet, muggy, just another day in SE Louisiana.

    Warm Up
SSH x20 IC, Grass Grabbers, Butt Kicks, Self Love, High Knees, Imperial Walkers, Mountain Climbers, Merkins – x15 -10 IC

    Thang
Mosey to the baseball field, count off 1’s and 2’s and teams were made. Regular rules apply this go round, with exercises called by QIC at random of Merkins and Sister Mary Catherines. Team 2 came out strong with a big lead, while Team 1 went 3 and out pretty quickly. A modification was made to not let all the kids kick first, and it was better. After a couple of innings, we were getting stomped. At this point, Mathlete had a suggestion that YHC implemented- Team 2 would have to Bear Crawl the bases to give us a chance. We made a short rally, but still got squashed by double digits.

We headed back to the flag a little early since we didn’t really exercise that much and YHC implemented the Red Hot Chili Pepper. A standard of Hogcycle, we did Merkins and Squats to finish out in 3 rounds. Merkins and Squats x20 IC, Merkins and Squats x15 IC, Merkins and Squats x 10IC

  • You say Tabata I say TabAta – from Mobydick

Drizzle in the gloom at the Gipper. YHC has become a fan of Tabata and encouraged by the ideas that short intense resistance is a better fat burner than cardio. I really don’t like cardio. So my Q consisted of 5 exercises with coupons in 5 rounds 1 minute each of Squats Presses Tricep curls Fore arm curls and grave diggers. Rest for 1 minute in between was a variety of stretches. Constant full body motion

BBQ and Bubba brought along a FNG so the low cardio gave us a chance to mumble chatter introduce these guys to F3.
