  • The Cindy Crawford – from High Rise

On a lovely humid warm morning the brace men of F3 arrived for my first official Q in quite a while as I had been nursing a mild injury. I was limiting my F3 attendance to avoid further injury but I also had planned on this particular beatdown as a way to test out my injury and also push the men of F3 as we are all prone to do. Disclaimer was given and off we went.

Warm up: Mosey around part of the track while performing high knees, butt kicks, and karaoke while on our way to The Foundry.

Tha Thang: As everyone gathered at The Foundry I explained the workout for today. 30 minutes AMRAP of a full body exercise routine: 5 pullups, 10 merkins, 15 squats, 20 LBCs (1 is 1), and 25 calf raises. Thanks to the Exicon for helping me find this routine called the Cindy Crawford.

After 30 minutes we moseyed back down Roosevelt Mall to the flag where we cooled down with some stretching. It was a pleasure as always to lead the men of F3 and I was glad to report that no further aggravation of nagging injury occurred.

  • The Few and the Proud – from Baywatch

2 PAX held down the fort this morning. Pop Tart and Baywatch.

Warmup (all IC): 20 SSH; 15 grass grabbers; 15 hillbillies; 10 arm circles (forward and backward).

Moseyed to the bottom of Wisner Mountain. Did the 3 total treks back and forth across the mountain with 7 8-count body builders at each end and 14 walking lunges on each trek at the top.

After that, we split 50 burpees, 100 LBCs, 150 squats, 200 penguins, and 250 plank shoulder touches. One PAX ran up the bridge to the third light pole while the other PAX did the exercises and then switched until all completed.

Moseyed back to the flag. Thanks to Pop Tart for suffering well with me on this Good Friday!

    Announcements, intentions, and prayer.

-YHC saw an opening at Swolefest and took the Q! What a great group of Pax! Sign up and bring some heat! YHC brought some simple stuff, yet none of it was easy!
-It’s great to travel to various AO’s and see other Pax! We even had a surprise visit from Pop Tart while out moseying with the dog. He stopped for some merkins and then disappeared into the gloom….
-Coffeteria at the newly reopened PJ’s on Metry Road with Pax from the View.

Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of this awesome brotherhood!

  • Leg-Free Bad Boy Day – from Rudy

Looking for ideas, YHC was stunned to realize that April 30th was the 60th birthday of the original Bad Boy: Isaiah Thomas of the Detroit Pistons. This definitely made me feel old. How can he be 60 already? Surely I cannot really be that old? But alas, things are what they are. But to remember the 60 year old “Bad Boys”, YHC decided on a 6-6-6 workout.

5:30: Disclaimer, then mosey to the rock pile to find a friend. YHC has been dealing with hip pain, so this was going to very very heavy on upper body. Choose wisely. Head to the field.

Warm Up: SSH, Plank-o-rama, some stretching.

The Thang: 6 Exercises. 6 Sets. 6 Reps. Starting at Tree 0 – Rifle carry your rock to Tree 1 for the first set. Then on to Tree 2. Tree 3. Back to Tree 2. Tree 1. Finish up at Tree 0 with your 6th set. Plank. No really, none of this lolly-gagging and catching your breath when you finish. Plank. Active recovery. There will be time for real recovery when the 6 arrives.

The exercises. All are Compound Movements (Thinking of you Milkman…)

    * Rock Burpees.
    * Curls: Up, Down, Straight arm Up, Down
    * Bench Press: lie down. Over your head. Straight up, down to chest, back up, back to overhead.
    * Elf on a Shelf
    * Row to Deadlift
    * Big Boy Situps

That took much longer than anticipated, so we had time to return the rocks (rifle carry back to the pit) and head back to the flag.

Thank you all for the opportunity to lead. Thanks to Boo Boo for the reminder the night before that I had the Q! And Happy Birthday to Bad Boy Thomas (# 11), as well as Happy Birthday to the great state of Louisiana.

  • Al Gore is an idiot

YHC was up for his second consecutive Q in City Park. Following the fill-in Q at The Stomp and seeing that the forecast for this morning was for a chilly 34 degrees, I opted to include more running than I typically would include in a Foundry beatdown in order to keep our bodies moving and stay warm. Thankfully there was negligible wind so today actually felt warmer than yesterday. With that said, Al Gore doesn’t know anything about “global warming” when New Orleans is in a near freeze in the middle of November. 11 PAX gathered at the mythical shovelflag, disclaimer was given, and off we went.

    Warm up:

With the weather being what it was I opted for a slightly longer warm up so we moseyed from the flag and made a full lap around the practice track. After that circle up.

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • Windmills x 10 IC
    • Grass grabbers x 15 IC
    • Arm circles fwd/rev x 10 each
    • Self love x 15 IC

    Thang #1:

I chose for a more run based routine and found the Merkin Mile on the exicon. Run a lap (1/4 mile) then perform 25 merkins. Rinse and repeat 4 times. Total = 1 mile and 100 merkins. I also wanted to keep everyone together as much as possible so I added that once everyone’s lap and merkins were complete we would hold the aforementioned Al Gore until the 6 had completed the round.

    Thang #2:

After that we recover walked over to the starting line on the back side of the track. Here we would do 40s. This consisted of performing 2 exercises in which you perform 30 reps of exercise 1, run the 100m, perform 10 reps of exercise 2, and run back to the start for round 1. With each round the reps would change by 5 reps. 25/15, 20/20, 15/25, and 10/30. Since we went heavy with arms/chest previously I thought a good leg burn would go over well. Exercise 1 was squat jumps and exercise 2 was single leg wife pleasers (bridges). Plank and wait for 6 when complete.

    Thang #3:

Recover walk back over to the warm up area of the track for The Gross. I found this one on the exicon a few weeks ago and since I had some time left over (and the list of exercises still saved on my phone) I went back to the well with a slight adjustment from my previous go round. 12 reps of 12 exercises. I once again tried to even it out with 4 leg, 4 arm, and 4 core exercises.

    • Low slow squats IC
    • Jumping/Bouncing IC (don’t let heels hit the ground)
    • R side lunges
    • L side lunges
    • Floyd Mayweathers
    • Carolina dry docks
    • Diamond merkins
    • Air shoulder press
    • Flutter kicks
    • Hello dollies
    • Box cutters
    • Freddy Mercury’s

Mosey back to the flag and plank for ~1 minute until the clock struck 6:15. Count off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and sweaty ball of man. I once again challenged the PAX to think of something to be thankful for every day as Thanksgiving is approaching. As always it was a pleasure to lead.

  • All Hail Sir Shuffles! or the 7th Running of the H8

All Hail Sir Shuffles! or the 7th Running of the H8

On a windy Thursday by the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, history was made in F3 New Orleans.

Triple Shift and Kuch kicked off the festivities for the H8 VII! They split the Pax up into two groups due to the great showing of 33 men to take on the challenge. Little did anyone know that someone was about the conquer the H8 as never seen before.

YHC was the first and only one to bow out early due to struggles with his shoulder. The rest of the pack ran hard, bear crawled hard, and burpeed with everything they had through 40 minutes of pain and exhaustion. These are the men YHC is not ashamed to call his brothers.

Then what men said could never be done……….. it happened.

They said no one could run 100m in less than 9.6 seconds and on August 12, 2009 Bolt became the fastest man in the world at 9.58.

They said no one could run a marathon in under 2 hours and on Saturday, October 12, 2019 Eliud Kipchoge ran a marathon in 1:59:40.

They said no one could run 9 laps on the H8 and on Thursday, October 17, 2019 Shuffles ran 9 laps of the H8 with 30 seconds before the 40 minute mark.

Tclaps to Shuffles for 9 and Tclaps to all of our finishers for setting the bar and giving the rest of us something to strive for. Your Fall 2019 H8 finishers: Shuffles, Breadsticks, Mahatma, Sogo, Rudy, Tua, Col Mustard, Quarterpipe, Screwtop, and Tanner.

The Pax counted off, Name-O-Rama, Welcome to FNG Crackles, Intentions, and Prayer for the Pax

  • 5 year CONVERGENCE!

Well – 5 years later we are still going STRONG! I remember when we started thinking I don’t have time in my life for this group. After a week of beatdowns I knew that we had to commit to growing this group – it had already begun to change my life and they way I interact with people everyday. I know after a nasty 530am beatdown – that I can handle anything the day throws at me. Thanks to all the guys here in NOLA that keep things running so that we can continue to be a group. Thanks to OBT for taking time out of his life to get us going in the GLOOM! Looking forward to 5 more years of F3 in NOLA.

Today the pre-run started with about 20 PAX for a run down BAYOU ST JOHN. Beautiful weather, cool air and a crisp breeze. We ran 12 min out and 12 min back so that we could arrive in time for the fun.

KUCH – has a been a great EH’er and a nice addition to F3 NOLA. Kuch started the party off with a WARM UP circle. SSH, Imp Walkers, Arm Circles, Peter Parkers, Merks.

Then we divided up by 5 count into teams. We did 5 burpees, 5 Lunges, 5 Merkins, 5 Squats, 5 Plank Jacks. Bear Crawl across the lawn. Run back. KUCH did an excellent job getting the teams set quickly

5 reps. We ran out of time and had to call it after 3 reps. No team won due to the shortened KUCH set. Kuch represented NOLA well – with a pretty gnarly start to a celebratory event.

2nd set with DURACELL – FROM BATON ROUGE

Duracell brought out 2 coupons. 40lb cinderblocks. 2 PAX ran to the center and did 3 thrusters. We went two different directions. A slow starter but once the PAX got the hang out this one – this was a solid beatdown. Duracell had to do about 15 exercises in cadence to 20. Exercises ranged from a regular plank, to shoulder taps, to merk variations to squat/lunge variations. The highlight of this section was Mathlete’s 2.0-Bear getting that cinderblock in the right position and up. Duracell represented the RED STICK well.

THIGHS FROM THE WANK- 3rd quarter. We started with a solid mosey over the to the lawn in by the museum. Upon arrival we see that Thighs has organized with some printed out signs a 15 min beatdown that is going to suck. At each sign there was an exercise- PAX had to complete 20 reps the first time through, 15 reps the 2nd time through. (Possible 3rd time for the fastest pax members). Exercises were:

    1. Bonnie Blaires
    2. Diamond Merks
    3. Reverse Crunches aka Gaspumps
    4. Bobby Hurleys
    5. Merkin Toe Touches (need to incorporate this more in my Qs)
    6. Freddie Mercs

RUN back to the start line and do this again. Thighs had the teams organized in a way by street names. Due to 75 PAX that didn’t quite workout but Thighs quickly modified and let the teams fall where they were. A good quick call. Thighs demonstrated that there is nothing easy about the WANK. Those guys are tough! Great turnout by the WB.

STEVE FROM THE NORTHSHORE- FINISHED OFF The PAX back on the great lawn. Each pax got a partner.

You had to do your partners age in burpees, your partners weight in LBCS, and your partners months in F3 in Freddies.

Steve had a few minutes left so he finished with some Peter parkers, and some American Hammer.

After a 75 PAX NAME O RAMA, NUMBERRAMA – Hokey POkey finished us off with an awesome prayer!

After the whole beatdown we gathered at Cafe Du Monde for a 5 year celebration party. Tclaps to Rudy, Tool and Gabrielle for making that happen. There were eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, biscuits, beignets and plenty of coffee!

Thanks to our awesome Qs! IT is NOT easy to Q 75 PAX!

So blessed to be a part of this group- cheers to 5 more years of F3 NOLA!

  • H8 Prep

A typical summer (in October?) morning with an atypical lack of a breeze coming off the lake led to a lovely humid morning in the gloom. 13 PAX joined me for a little prep workout for the upcoming H8 in 2 weeks. Disclaimer was given and off we went around the fountain.

PAX #2 stays behind to perform 5 pull-up, 10 hand-release merkins, and 15 squats. Plank and wait for your partner to finish their respective round. Flapjack. Perform 4 rounds.

My apologies to anyone that was eaten alive by ants. I heard people saying there were ants while we were exercising. It wasn’t until after the beatdown that I learned that Tugboat (possibly others) who were bitten at least a dozen times. I fully understand why Screw Top doesn’t like the grass.

    Tha Thang #2:

Mosey over to the large open area by the lake where we would circle up for some randomness.

    • 8 count Absolution x 10 IC
    • Merkin into a side plank x 8 IC (Q couldn’t make it to 10 reps)
    • Al Gore x 30 seconds x 3 trials
    • R single leg wife pleaser x 15 (1 is 1)
    • L single leg wife pleaser x 15 (1 is 1)

    • Dying Cockroaches
    • LBCs
    • Freddy Mercury’s
    • American Hammers
    • Box cutters

Mosey back to the flag where we wrapped it all up with 10 burpees OYO. Countoff, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and sweaty ball of man. Once again it was a pleasure to lead. And once again I sincerely apologize to anyone who was bitten by ants.

  • Lending a Helping Hand

A couple weeks ago I helped out my fellow LVCC member Screw Top and we swapped Q’s. Unfortunately Screw Top went and had a minor setback and was not ready to return for his Q so I once again helped him out and took over my original Q slot. On a typical muggy morning 14 PAX, including 2 FNG’s, joined me in the gloom. Disclaimer was given and off we moseyed to the practice track.

    Warm up:

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • Windmills x 10 IC
    • Arm circles fwx and rev x 10 each IC
    • Grass grabbers x 15 IC
    • Self love x 15 IC

    Tha Thang #1:

For the first portion of the beatdown we stayed in the circle for a routine I created a couple weeks ago. It was time for the second attempt of Red Light/Green Light. All red light exercises would be static and all green light exercises would be dynamic. Exercises were called out by the Q and we would immediately change exercises once the randomized timer called out red light or green light.

    Red light exercises:

    • Al Gore
    • High plank
    • L side plank
    • R side plank
    • Low plank
    • R leg lunge hold
    • L leg lunge hold
    • Supine leg hold
    • Reverse plank
    • Calf raise hold

    Green light exercises:

    • Mountain climbers
    • LBCs
    • Merkins
    • Lateral/cross-over lunges
    • High knees
    • R single leg wife pleasers
    • L single leg wife pleasers
    • Penguins
    • Crunchy frog
    • Freddy Mercury’s

After this we moseyed to Roosevelt Mall where PAX splint into 2 groups for an Indian Run to the steps in front of NOMA.

    Tha Thang #2:

At that time we partnered up for some Dora 1,2,3. Combined total of 100 merkins, 200 squats, and 300 LBCs. While PAX #1 performed the exercise, PAX #2 bunny hopped the steps and performed 3 burpees at the top of the steps. I may have overshot this one as I know my group only got halfway through the LBCs before it was time to mosey back to the flag. Although I know multiple groups were able to complete all reps so T-claps to you guys.

Circle up for countoff, name-o-rama, annoucement, named our 2 FNG’s, intentions, and COT. Welcome Blazing Saddles (had a tough time coming up with that name but props to Amnesty for nailing it) and Choppa. Can’t wait to lead again.
