  • Out of the Shadows

Imagine Cowbell’s face when he arrived (on time, give the man credit) to the AO to find Waterpik and YHC, fresh out of Covid quarantine, as the only two pax present. Had Hog’s Breath posted (he broke his quarantine spell the day before at the Marsh), Cowbell might’ve just gotten right back in the truck and bounced. But he made it this far, and it was too cold to turn back around, so we got down to business.

Warmorama: Good mornings, toe touches, SSH, IW’s, torso twists, seal jacks, x10-20 IC.

YHC is gonna miss the Christmas lights at the trailhead, they’re downright cheerful. And heart warming! And the place is so well-lit! Anyway, the last few times YHC has Q’d, I’ve elected to stay close and enjoy the twinkling lights, and today was no different. Quick mosey around the block to warm up before launching into a long lunge walk down the length of the corridor and around the bend until we reached the stage. At every other column, we would perform 5 burpees, thereby helping Cowbell (the sole Northshore ISI participant) get some in before daybreak. By the time we hit the stage we had 55.

Once at the stage, we circled up for:

    1. Squats x20 IC
    2. Burpees x5
    3. Jump Squats x20
    4. Burpees x5
    5. Sister Mary’s x20 IC
    6. Burpees x5
    7. Monkey Humpers x20 IC
    8. Burpees x5
    9. Calf Raises x20 IC

Back to the corridor, where we bunny hopped our way back, stopping at every other column to do x10 merkins. With 110 merkins completed, we knocked out another 5 burpees.

Our favorite stair-climbing couple has been MIA lately, probably because it’s so darn cold, so we took over their stairs for alternating single-leg calf raises, x5 each step up.

YHC was ready to head over to the bus stop, my preferred location for bench work, but after spotting the knife-wielding Mr. Perkins sleeping there at the start of the beatdown, we decided to give him a wide berth and chose the benches around the splash pad instead. Time for … more legs!

    1. L leg step up, x20 IC
    2. Freak Nasties, x10 IC
    3. R leg step up, x20 IC
    4. Freak Nasties, x10 IC
    5. L leg Bulgarians, x20 IC
    6. Freak Nasties, x10 IC
    7. R leg Bulgarians, x20 IC
    8. Freak Nasties, x10 IC

And finally, some standard Mary with Jane Fonda’s mixed in to complete the legorama. Thanks to the guys for posting, when it’s as cold as it’s been lately, it is tough getting out of bed and to the AO. The whole accountability thing works, so I can’t thank you guys enough.

  • Tempo Tuesday

YHC arrived to only 2 F3 brethren ready to get after it on this Gloom. Surprisingly 1 was Hammer coming off the CSAUP of a 1000 Burpees and the ever reliable Pelican for his routine of Tuesday and Thursday posts. The morning was beautiful and YHC wanted to get warm and stay warm with a steady pace of a mixture of activities.

    warmup

20IC SSH, Imperial walkers, Toe Touches, Grass grabbers and a lap around the trailhead..

    thang

We lined up along the decorated columns. 2 PAX would complete named exercise while the odd man out would use the breezeway for called sprints, Caricoas, Hops, shuffles and stairs. Squats, Leg lunges, Merkins, Mountain climbers, Flutter kicks and WW1 sit-ups (thanks Akbar).

PAX then Moseyed Girord making 3 stops along the way with 10, 15 and 20 rep counts at each. First stop Merkins, squats and ???, second stop at lakeshore using the corner bar for Donkey kickoffs, Merkins and Shoulder taps and the third stop Burpees, Mountain climbers and jump squats.

Appreciate the Hammer for praying us out with gratitude and thankfulness..

    Till the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • All 7s can be lucky says Grandma!

YHC scooped up the lead at Grandmas and figured we would stay close to home on this brisk high 40s Gloom. With the likes of our fellow bicyclists in Steve and Russo rolling in the PAX added to others with Pelican and Zoolander as the clock struck 0515.

    Warmup

Circled the AO with a casual mosey followed by all IC15 SSH, Imperial walkers, Windmills, Cherry pickers, Self-love and Toe touches..

    thang

  • Paying tribute to a fallen officer!

YHC has been pulling workouts from the Exicon for the last few Qs. This particular routine caught my attention and I felt the need to bring attention too it at Granny’s House on this beautifully mild Gloom. With tensions on all fronts and from both sides as the media focuses on separating us as a Human race with the election drawing to a close. YHC figured it fitting to remember one of the many fallen hero’s around our communities, which seem to draw less attention in our times of division. This young officer with a calling of service as illustrated in the above clipping shows what so many men and women in Blue face on every routine call. It’s the unknown as he/she responds to a scene from a call to dispatch that could very well be their last. As stated in the beatdown “The Hightower” Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers as they shall be called sons of God.”

    warmup

    10IC

Grass grabbers, Self-love, Arm circles, Cherry pickers.

    15IC

    SSH, Imperial walkers, Hillbilly’s

    thang

Upon completion we returned back to the AO for 20IC Freddie Mercury’s and Little Manny crunches..

Great to see Ringo making the post again through his recovery and t-👏🏼 to Hogsbreath for his commitment to post having to leave early from Slidell to meet our 0515 start time..

YHC prayed us out reflecting on Matthew 5:9 and how we as men need to be those Peacemakers in our homes, communities and workplaces..

Appreciate you men following my lead and Till the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Return to Granny’s playhouse!

It has been awhile since YHC has posted at Granny’s so missing things like the memorable “Bus Stop” and the “Tunnel of pain” motivated the Q to taste both. Arrived as Russo came out of the darkness soon followed by Steve. Started on time with chatter of the possibility of Cowbell’s always right on time or slightly late entry, but this gloom would provide the PAX with a new late arrival in Big Cat..

    Warmup

IC varying from 10-15 SSH, Imperial walkers, Hillbillies, Windmills, Toe touches, and arm circles..

    thang

First stop the “Bus Stop” brief IC10 Irkins, left step ups OYO to 10, Freak Nasties IC10 and finished with right step ups OYO to 10. Hit the trailhead for a Mosey over to the “Tunnel of Pain.”Along the way proved difficult in the week of a New moon 🌙 casting illumination with little through the trees, but thankfully as we approached the halfway point a recumbent bike lit the path to get is to our destination.

Partnered up for 50 burpees, 100 Merkins and 150 squats. P1 moseyed down, Carioca across the flat and back then backpedaled up picking up the count of P2. Upon completion took to the street with some lighting for our return stopping along the way for some Parker Peters and Peter Parker’s IC10. Arrived back at the flag for wrap up Mary consisting of Little Manny Crunches IC20, Hello Dolly IC20, Jane Fonda’s each leg 10IC including pulses and knee taps (EiEi) special. We miss you at Granny’s EiEi oh? Closed with Freddy Mercuries 20IC.

Appreciate your 2nd post Big Cat and look for to your return!!

cot and YHC closed the PAX in prayer!!

Always enjoy the post gentlemen see you in the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!

  • Grumble Grumble No Mas!

Feels like 76 degrees? Yes please! Like a water-less version of adult Marco Polo, YHC called out upon arrival, “Grumble…. ?Grumble…?” Alas, with the 1st day of St. Tammany school upon us, Jose’s streak had come to an end, and he was a fish out of water. But still the Cowley Cones were back for another appearance, Debo was creepin’ down the dimly lit trace on his bike, and making certain the sweaty coast was clear, Zoolander popped up with hopeful talk of a potential stay of execution via a “double down” popostion. Hmmmm???

    WARMORAMA

    x10 IC:

Torso Twist, Windmills, Fire Hydrants, Scorpion Kicks

    THANG

They say three’s company, and so it made for good rounds of convo when 2 men did LBC’s, Freddy Mercury’s, or any other core exercise that came to mind while the third man bear crawled along the columns doing 5 (then 4,3,2,1) merkins at each of 5 cones placed along the way and ran back.

Rotate each man for each round until complete.

Then, with another set of 6 or so cones set up along the trace, thePAX lined up at the Lafitte end and ran some extended suicdes to let the lungs in on the action.

    COT

Ending at 6:00, there was enough time for a short and sharp count and name off before YHC took us out with some short n sweet sentiments.

Thanks for coming out, guys. See y’all in the gloom!

T claps to Jose 10K aka The Shadow, aka Grumble Grumble, aka A1C, aka, Soundtrack, aka Early Bird, aka Sweat Jug, aka The Streak for 57 (I hope I’ve got that number right) consecutive beatdowns, showing his love for F3 and men we call brothers, his tenacity, dedication and incredible good fortune at having not injured himself! Well done sir.

And lest we forget that this Saturday is sure to provide the dramatic culmination of the funky accrual of Anderson DNA in the acidic, ordoriferous swill that may (or may NOT be) poured all over Zoo’s head.

You may have to turn away, but it’s not to be missed!

  • Sayonara Fujiwhara

Granny’s House was supposed to be a wash out this morning.  70% when I checked last night.  And as much as YHC appreciates a good wet beatdown, after the Marsh’s Week Zero IPC beatdown yesterday, it seemed like maybe some shelter was in order.

Of course, there was no rain. But we remained sheltered regardless!

Warmorama: Good mornings, windmills, torso twists, seal jacks, IWs, and SSHs.

    Thang:

Starting at the trailhead stairs, we’d bear crawl to every 4th column in the corridor and then perform an exercise.  (The guys were probably dismayed to discover these columns just kept going and going…)

    Exercises were:

    • 60 Squats
    • 50 LBC’s
    • 40 Merkins
    • 30 Flutter Kicks IC
    • 20 Donkey Kicks
    • 10 Burpees

And then, of course, head back to the start:

    • 60 Dollies
    • 50 Scorpion Kicks
    • 40 Staggered Merks (20 ea. side)
    • 30 Jump Squats
    • 20 Groiners

    What, no 10 burpees? Well…

Coconuts was on the brain after talking about him at coffee Monday, so I thought we should bring back one Coconut classics, The Dab:

10 burpees EMOM for 5 minutes, followed by a 300 yard run.  Rinse and repeat! (This seemed brutal, but then I just kept thinking about the time that Maverick began a beatdown with 100 straight burpees.)

Normally YHC would search for a GIF to insert here and make the Coconuts tribute complete, but I gotta get to bed for Goose’s final Q tomorrow.

Mary: Dying cockroaches, leg raises, Freddie Mercs, Rosalitas, something else?

Countdown, nameorama, Chewy prayed us out, and Jose filled the sweat jug.  Thank you guys for the push this morning, it was one of those mornings that I really was not feeling, I definitely needed you men out there to get ‘er done! 👊

  • Audibles at Granny’s (I’m not a Professional)

As YHC pulled up to Granny’s, there was an unusually large group of F3 men ready to start the day off right. With the incessant soreness from Cowbell’s ISI pull-up challenge and Bushwacker’s consistent weekly prodding for some yoga infused workouts, we got started with some power flow, sun salutation, warrior 1, 2, 3, 4, half moon, whatever, whatever…I’m not a professional!

Mosey to the bus stop. Not a lot of mumble chatter here, and Cowbell even kept his shirt on.

    – Bulgarian split squats (IC),

    – Box Jumps (OYO)

    – Burpee Box Jumps (OYO)

    – Irkins (IC)

    – Dirkins (IC)

    – Freak Nasties (IC)

    – Balls to the Wall Burpees aka Decline Burpees (Durpees?) OYO.

Mosey to the tunnel, where, according to Jose, nothing good ever happens (including QIC’s cadence counting).

    – Top of the tunnel – 10 Jump Squats IC

    – ½ way down the incline – Merkins, I think

    – ½ way through the tunnel – 12 count body building, mounting climbing, shoulder tapping, squat jumping, burpees (IC). QIC was just calling audibles at this point. I’m not a professional!

    – Sprint to the top of the tunnel for some cool down Imperial Walkers

    – ½ way down the incline – hand rail dirkins, I think

    – ½ way through the tunnel – We did something. It’s a blur after the earlier 12 counts.

    – ½ way up the incline – slow Peter Parker/Parker Peter (there’s a yoga term for this, I’m sure…Bird said we were “flying”…I guess that’s what birds do.)

    – Top of the tunnel – 20 Sister Mary Katherines

Mosey back to the trailhead, bunny hop up the stairs and reconvene at the shovel flags. Jose, did you notice we had two this morning?

Closed out with Cowbell Crunchy Frogs and Goose-led Nolan Ryan’s.

QIC prayed us out into the day. Thanks for posting in numbers today and following my lead, men. SYITG.

  • You Go This Way, I’ll Go That Way

Apologies in advance for just about the weakest back blast by yours truly, or anyone this side of the lake (Although I seem to recall one by Chewy that was pretty close).

We 5 gathered and warmed up with a number of exercises to loosen the joints and muscles.

After mosying to the bus stop, the trek began. Jose, P Shooter and Pelican did core exercises while Waterpik and YHC ran west on the trace stopping at carol and adair for 5 burpees each. Then the hardcore trio ran east to the fire station stopping at 2 designated spots for 5 burpees each. Continue the core while the runners continued 4, 3, 2 burpees before time ran out.

Pelican and his hair prayed us out

I swear I’ll do better next time!
