  • BALL BUSTER – from Fast Tax

Nine PAX braved the spooky gloom on All Hallows Eve and joined YHC at Rock City.

Warmups were a sprinkle of typical moves with a few Fast Tax favorites: Grass Grabbers, SSHs, Manatee, Swan Dives, and everyone’s favorite – Crab Merkins.

Sufficiently warmed, we picked out our medium to heavy rocks (except War Eagle) and lined up along the sidewalk for the morning’s first exercise – Hair Burners. Hair Burners is essentially the pushing of a rock ahead of you while bear crawling.

Next up in the morning’s festivities was Welsh Dragons.
Remain in plank position the whole time. Bear crawl forward 4 steps, do 1 merkin, 1 plank jack, and tap the BACK of each shoulder 1 time. Repeat adding 1 rep to each exercise each time – bear crawl forward 4 steps, do 2 merkins, 2 plank jacks, 2 sets of back of shoulder taps… etc., repeated until we passed the sidewalk.

Picking up our rocks, we circled up for Captain Thor – An ab exercise done in a 1:4 ratio OYO, 1 big boy sit up to 4 American Hammers.

Without further ado, the time that PAX had eagerly awaited had come to pass – the introduction* of BALL BUSTER.

Ball Buster (credit to Mahatma for the naming idea) is a combination of Capture the Flag and Dodge Ball, except there are no boundaries. PAX form two teams. Each side has a blue ball (referred to as the Flag), which must be positioned at a pre-identified location on each team’s base and each PAX on the team is given one non-blue ball. The object is to steal the opposing sides blue ball (i.e. their flag) and bring it back to your base. The team scored against has to do three burpees.

Similar to dodge ball, PAX can use the ball to hit or “tag” an opposing player or block an incoming ball. If you are hit, or the person you are throwing at catches the ball, you have to immediately drop your ball and do two burpees or five merkins.
PAX can only hold one ball at a time. In order to pick up the flag, you must drop the ball if you are carrying one. You can pick up a tagged PAX’s ball and throw it away, but only after dropping your own.

However, when carrying the opposing team’s flag, it can be strategically used as a regular ball to hit or tag an opposing player. If the opposing team retrieves their flag (b/c the carrier was hit and had to drop the ball), it must be brought or thrown back to base and placed in the same pre-identified spot. A player cannot just run around with the Flag in their possession (Bogey).

Halfway through the game, the teams should switch sides.
Optional Rule: A team cannot score unless their own Flag is at their base. For example, if YHC captured the opposing team’s Flag, I cannot bring it back to my base unless my Flag is already at my base, i.e. the opposing team does not have it.

Having dispensed with the game rules, play commenced.
Team 1: Bogey, Hawg Cycle, Mahatma, Hokie, Cyber Cajun
Team 2: Hand Grenada, Fast Tax, War Eagle, Tiny Dancer

Even with Team 1’s penalty for hiding the ball in Bogey’s shirt, Team 1 still carried the day winning 3 to 2.

With time running out, we headed to COT for Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.

    Thanks for the fellowship!
    SYITG

    * Technically a re-introduction since YHC debuted it a month prior to a small group of 6 PAX.

Thank you everyone for posting and for your thoughts and prayers.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”

    God Bless.

  • Burpeepalooza – from Bolt

An empty Q sheet required the site AO to take charge and ensure the PAX got their promised burpee count on this brisk Friday. Disclaimer given and mosey to the field for warmorama, Rapper’s Delight edition. The concept would be simple: musically driven burpees with various exercises between the chorus followed by various modes of movement. The execution, however, was severely hindered by War Eagle incessantly working only his jaw and Bogey—well, being Bogey. Despite the PAX’s best efforts, my iWatch said the beatdown was satisfactory and SOME of us completed 137 burpees.
Mosey to flag and circle up for “cool down” which according to SOME people was NOT: Al Gore long enough for Bogey to bitch about it followed by one minute of dying cockroaches and finish with a plank for less than a minute because War Eagle “claimed” time was up.
Proud to b part of this group and appreciate you men!

  • The return of the Yippee Bag – from Rudy

The birthday tradition is back! Finally! Reasons outside of YHC’s control kept the Yippee Bag from its traditional August date, but better late than never. 12 PAX got to experience the joys and sorrows of The Yippee Bag ™ this fine morning. That included one DR visitor (Extinguisher from JAX), one second-timer (welcome back Igor!) and one FNG (thanks Igor and Triple Shift).

Disclaimer given, mosey to the Big Lawn. Quick review of The Yippee Bag ™ Rules: Basically, there are none. Pick from the bag, the card provides instructions for what happens. Exercises 4 U. Exercises 4 the PAX. Exercises 4 the Q. Fun and Games. Its a crapshoot!

Circle Up for the warmup. Catfish kicks us off by pulling “20 Merkins for Someone”, and of course – he selects YHC. Its gonna be that kind of day. So the warm up continued in a very disjointed manner, as War Eagle also reached into the bag. In between Situps, 8 counts, Burpees – the PAX managed to get in a bit of a warmup.

Thing 1: Bear Crawl (maybe 25 yards), then 7 burpees. Crab Walk, 14 merkins, Bear Crawl, 21 Squats, Walk Crab, 28 BBSU. In between, we had LOTS of cards drawn. Everyone’s in on the game. Bogey pulls out the Bear Crawl Relay. Mahatma draws Crab Walk Red Light/Blue Light, and more and everyone is pulling out more Burpees. War Eagle has to go to the MINI to rifle carry the ANDY block.

Thing 2: Head over to grab a rock. Meanwhile, YHC has to do 10 more 8 ct body builders. 10 Overhead, Rifle carry, 10 Curl, Rifle carry, 10 Row. Return to the tree. Repeat with 9. Then 8. More and more cards. FNG gets selected for 10 Bobby Hurleys – whoa, that guy can jump. Definitely on Team Pontiff for future Ultimate games. Quick game of SPUD (oh, *thats* what the football was for). This devolved into barely controlled chaos. Keep lifting rocks. Then its time to put the rocks away.

Thing 3: Mosey to the MINI. Partner up for some Dora in the parking lot. PAX 1 – run (w/ bricks), 1 brick-pee, then return. 50 Hand-release merks, 100 Squats, 150 Situps. Klinger drew a “Sing Happy BDay to Q”. He did a great job (while YHC had to do more Burpees). Bogey won the “Hold Your Breath” contest (in his defense, YHC had just run a lap while everyone else was holding low plank).

Time ran out nearly at the same time as the Yippee Bag ran out. Back to the (Virtual) flag.

COT: Reviewed 5 principles for the FNG. Then we all know the drill. FNG named “Tesla” due to his South African background.

Thank you all for humoring me again!

  • Climbing a Mountain – from Hokie

YHC once again wants to thank F3 for the opportunity to grow. We closed with the following prayer

Our dear Heavenly Father, we stand in this Circle of Trust, arm in arm, before you as F3 New Orleans. We pray for F3 Nation pax all over the world. Help us grow to mentor men in Leadership. Protect our Board members and bind us together in purpose. Through Christ our Lord….AMEN!!!
