  • Labor Day Murph – from Akbar

9 strong for a Labor Day Murph, followed by coffeeteria. We can go to Waffle House anytime, but it sure tastes better after a Murph.

PAX -Akbar, Bird, Hammer, Hogsbreath, Moby Dick, Russo, Shooter,
    Jose 10k, Sogo

7am start, with most arriving early to discuss LSU football among other things. Warm up consisted of SSH, Self Love, Grass Grabbers, Windmills, Cherry Pickers, Imperial Walkers, and some other things.

We ran the original Milestone Marsh route down Livingston to the wall for the runs. Then broke up to 20 sets of 5/10/15 OYO, finishing with a mile.

Tunes ranged from Zebra, Dash Rip Rock, and Rush to Big Tymers and a theme song from Avengers. SOGO was first to finish with Russo and Bird not far behind.

Count, Name, and SOGO prayed us out.

Waffle House was lively with great conversation centered around music and movies as usual. Michael Jackson was on for the first 20 minutes, Jose 10K showed us some dance moves, and we talked like high school girls. All while Moby talked to a guy in the parking lot for 30 minutes and may have bought a motorhome.

    Thanks for following the lead,

    SYITG – Akbar

  • The AARP at the A1C – from Jose10k

70 degrees to start a beatdown? It’s glorious to finally have cooler temperatures in the morning. A quintet took the red pill and showed up this morning. It was the usual group of older gentlemen. I know the splash pad likes to think of themselves as the “young guns”, and they often make small cracks about the average age of the A1C. Don’t worry, we’ve heard all of them. 1. Which underwear brand do seniors love best? It Depends.
    2. You know you’re getting old when your birthday cake is a fire hazard.
    3. Aging gracefully is a nice way of saying you’re slowly looking worse.
But perhaps one of my favorites: A wealthy old man spots an attractive lady at the grocery store and approaches her with an offer.
He says, “Ma’am, you are very beautiful, and I would love to give you $1,000.”
The woman, surprised and flattered, says, “That’s very kind of you, but what would I have to do?”
The old man says, “Just follow me home, take off all your clothes, pick the money up off the floor, and then you can get dressed and leave.”
“Wow, she says, that sounds great, but I’ll have to ask my husband if it’s okay with him first.”
*Woman calls her husband, explains the proposition and asks him what he thinks*
Husband says, “Yeah baby, we could really use the money. Just pick it up real quick, get dressed, and get out of there.”
So the lady goes back to the old man, says she’ll do it, then follows him home, strips completely naked, and starts picking up the $1,000 off the floor.
*An hour later, her husband calls her cellphone and asks what’s taking so long.*
The lady, huffing and puffing, says, “That dirty old man paid me in quarters, dimes, and nickels!”
You can make fun of the average age at the A1C all you want, but they’ll put a beatdown on you, and you’ll be sore the next day.

The warm-up: the usual exercises to get the blood flowing
The thang: The deck of death gentlemen. Normally YHC goes crazy with the Merkins, however, I was feeling a little frisky this morning. I called out nothing but wife pleasers for the clubs. Burpees for the lower numbers, various exercises for the high numbers. Reverse mountain climbers, scorpion kicks, leg lifts, squats, and then the crazy BBQ jokers. Deon Sanders back peddling, Star Jumps on every other parking line, and then the attempt to throw another Joker in the mix. These old guys tend to forget that there are only 2 Jokers in the deck. Dementia seems to be settling in. 45 minutes later, full body work out, sweat jug getting filled (look out Zoolander), and a sense of accomplishment to start the day. COT, intentions to young Phoenix who is doing better each day. 9/11 run to remember with Bushwacker on the 9th at the Gipper. Grundy has week 0 of the IronPax challenge. I heard it’s tough. So tough that Frank the Tank can’t even do it. Apparently he’s too old to even attempt it. BBQ prayed us out. Thanks for letting me lead such a great group of “young” men. Suck it splash pad. Thanks for the read y’all and Russo.

  • R.E.S.P.E.C.T find out what it means to be!! – from Shooter

All YHC can say today is that he has the utmost Respect for the PAX he was privileged to lead today!! Having the availability to post the A1c with my gym partner away fixing to crush his qualifier, it was nice to have 6 men take the red pill 💊 on this 🥵 Gloom..

    Warmup
    10IC and 15IC
Arm circles, Torso twists, Cherry Pickers,
Toe Touches, Grass Grabbers, SSH, Imperial walkers, Hillbillies and Mummy kicks..

    Thang
PAX moseyed to the Northside parking lot. Instructions were simple 5 burpee, 10 Merkins, 15 Jump squats, 20 Flutter kicks 2:1, 25 leg raises and 30 Mountain climbers 2:1.
Each station we added the exercise but also started with each of the previous. So the rep counts accumulated and some heavy breathing occurred. The hot 🥵 asphalt intensified the sweat, so much so that Jose10k rang out his shirt multiple times along the way mentioning the old sweat jug challenge and how he could have filled half the jug potentially just this morning 🤢.
Once finished we moseyed around the parking garage a found the hottest little corner with no circulation of air. There we located a barricade for the next instruction of overhead presses 25 OYO, while the PAX utilized the wall for JackWeb Burpees 1 burp 2 donkey kickoffs.
Moseyed to the opposite corner of the garage with another barricade available. Partners for curls with the barricade, while the PAX moseyed down and backpedaled back..
Moseyed back to the flag and wrapped up with count, announce and COT provided by Jose10k..

Appreciate you men following my lead and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Hot and Sweaty – from Mobydick

The thang was a 1min work 1 min rest tabata. Starting with presses then rows. Next on our sticks for crunchs and chest presses followed by squats and kettles. Time allowed 2 1/2 rounds tgen finished iff with rifle carry coupons back to the pile. Countarama and COT and we are done. Didnt count reps but it felt like a lot.

  • Red Barchetta – from Akbar

The 4 Milestone Marsh regulars woke up to take the Red Pill this morning, on a seemingly cooler morning temp of 79 with 93% humidity. Which felt fine, until we starting moving.

We celebrated the Red Barchetta today, a Red Ferrari V12 that left the Maranello factory in 1947 built for racing. Also, the classic Rush song, which gets your heart rate up like you’re speeding on country roads. The song was based on a short story about a time in the future when there were motor laws, making it illegal to joy ride. A young man gets his uncles Barchetta out from storage in a barn and heads out on the open road. Another example of songs that aren’t made like that anymore.

  • It only takes one – from Mobydick

A beautiful cloudless morning. Jose10k checked in from the fart sack and the usuals on the road traveling. Didn’t matter Turbodog and YHC kept the faith with 10 minute warmup of SSH CP WM GG AC ANKLE CIRCLES no count just til enough. Then the thang

Setup for 1min work 1 min rest Tabata of 3 sets of Burpees/Squats/Crunches/Merkins/Side Straddle Hop. Finish with 2min cooldown walk. POT and prayer for guidance and inspiration And done

  • It Only Take Two – from Mobydick

Apparently the usual PAX really like hot and sweaty. An amazing cool and breezy morning graces the AO this AM. Fletch and Mobydick kicked off our workout with a good solid stretch session of about 10 minutes GG, CP, AC, SSH, IW, WM etc etc
After a good loosing up came a plain old thing. We each secured a coupon and proceeded to complete 5 Sets of Presses/Curls/Rows/Kettles/Squats x10. Not the most brutal workout but it worked a sweat in the otherwise cool and breezy morning.
    Count and COT to closeout

  • Recover – from Akbar

1 month since YHC’s last post. It was great to be back out in the gloom again despite the weather. Waterpik returned as well to the gloom to a heavy modified beatdown – meaning no upper body – running one of the regular routes down to the Lakefront wall, Rips, and back.

Nothing better to start the week than a run with Monday morning Mumblechatter.

Warm Up – SSH, IW, Grass Grabbers, Self Love, continuing warm up on the jog to the
Lakefront stopping for 20 Merkins and 20 Squats mixed in with other stuff.

Lakefront Wall: x20 IC – Freak Nasty, Dirkin, Squat, Step Ups, 1-2 sets

Lungewalk to Rips for 3 rounds of 1 exercise at the bottom, run the stairs, 1 exercise at the other side. Merkins, Squats, Rocky Balboa’s, Shoulder Taps, and something else.

This is when we saw a sea of cars heading toward the Lakefront. We have seen some strange things at the Marsh over the years, but this was something different. Turned out to be a FHS get together before the first day of school.

Head back to the Marsh, stopping again for 20x Merkins, Squats, and other stuff.

Returning to Moby Dick and Turbo Dog at the Marsh. Realizing with the short warm up, we missed Moby by a minute. He stayed and did 5, 10,, 15 reps on the pull up bars paired with squats and abs waiting upon our return.

Backward lunge walk to the other side of the court, front lunge walk to return.

Circle up for Mary of Little Manny Crunches, LBC’s, Hello Dolly, Rosalita, and time was called.

    Announcements –
    Pickaxe bday Q this Saturday

    COT
YHC prayed us out with thoughts for Pixie Stix heading off to LSU, Grover to Montana, Pickaxe and Chainsaw and all the rest as school gets back in session, the Bigler family on continued good news as well.

    Great to be back. SYITG,

    Akbar

  • Campfire Sing Along at The Gipper – from Einstein

Well, it was more of a fart-along with Moby farting to the tune of “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple.
The Pax arrived to the A1C in total darkness – with the usual parking lot lighting not in operating order. And with the almost new moon, it was just plain dark.

Luckily, eagle scout Jose10K just happened to have a lantern in his car, so with that, we circled around the light, whipped out the trusty deck-of doom and we were off.
So, warm up (as if we needed to be warmer), then hit the deck with a round-robin, each Pax assigned to a suit, and their choice of exercise.

BBQ led us out with prayer.

  • Farraginous Activities at The Gipper – from Einstein

Hot and humid at The Gipper.
No one signed up to queue, so what do you do? Round Robin was the consensus.

    Long Warmup:
Toe Touch, SSHops, Swimmers, Neck Rolls, Hi Jack Hi Jills, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Merkins, Peter Parkers, etc.

Then onto the Coupon event; rows, curls, presses, etc. mixed in with a run, and floor exercises
All in all, it was a good beatdown – even my eyeballs were sweating.

Circle-up, Count-o-rama, DarkWingDuck leads us out with prayer.
