  • 5 years and counting – from Fracsac

17 Pax including 2 FNG’s and 1 Down Range from ENC made a choice to take the DRP on their journey to get right and posted to Okwata to help YHC celebrate 5 years in F3. With a shovel flag planted, disclaimer was given, then:

Mosey toward the fountain just like the good old days, carioca around the fountain and circle up on the grass for a warmup:

    SSH IC x 31
    IW x 15
Bat wings x 15 IC of AC, OC, SC and MNC (dancing during Moroccan NC), finished with 20 count Iron Cross before dropping those aching limbs.

Mosey back to the fountain for:

Double Shots with Jack Webb at the Barre.
1 merkin with 2 air presses in people’s chair
    2 Merkins with 4 air presses….
    3 Merkins with 6 air presses…..
    …….
10 Merkins with 20 air presses in people’s chair.

Mosey to the House of Pain for stations. The pax first cleaned up the trash……

    Station 1 – Pull-ups AMRAP
Station 2 – Step ups AMRAP
    Station 3 – Big Boi Sit-ups AMRAP
Station 4 – Bear crawl up levee, 5 burpees, mosey back down (Timer)
    Rinse and repeat

Mosey to open area of grass for the much anticipated Shock & Awe! There was much rejoicing!
    5 x SSH IC
    10 burpees OYO
    5 x SSH IC
    9 burpees OYO
    Yada Yada Yada……..
    5 x SSH IC
    3 burpees OYO
    5 x SSH IC
    2 burpees OYO
    5 x SSH IC
10 burpees OYO (we never do 1 burpee!)

Mosey to the top of the levee for a disperse run. Form 2 columns, last pax runs to the front of column and yells “disperse” followed by an exercise. The pax run down their side of the levee, complete 3 of the exercises, and run back up top to continue. There were 8 count BB, Burpees, and even some Catalina Wine Mixers!

For the final 2 minutes, we did Quadraphilia AMRAP! Then return to the flag.

    COT and naming of FNG’s

    NMM

    – Welcome Lighthouse and Blue Clause!
    – Honored to have Waterboy from ENC join us and he even brought an FNG!
    – Thank you to each of the pax that joined me to celebrate my 5th year of F3.

Thank you for pushing me and making me better! SYITG!

  • It looked better on paper – from Rudy

Large crowd in the gloom at El Diablo this am. Weather was delightful. Ground was moist, promising a nice, muddy workout. So at 5:30 – YHC gives a disclaimer and 12 PAX head to the football field. BooBoo starts the festivities by mocking the Q about said disclaimer, so all PAX get to start with 5 OYO Boo-Boo Burpees. Then we warm-up. Stretches, SSH, IW, arm circles. Get the blood flowing. And lo-and-behold, Vagabond emerges from the gloom just in time to make for an even 13 PAX.

The Thang 1: Two teams, count total reps. Losing PAX team will have to do more Boo-Boo Burpees. What’s the event? 10 8-cts, run to the other bench and back (i dunno, maybe 20 yards each direction?) 10 BBS, run to the bench and back. That’s 1. Do it again. OYO. Count how many iterations you get done. YHC sets a timer (8 minutes, but don’t tell anyone. Its more fun when you have no idea how long you’ll be working….). Go. Team 1 (with only 6 members) still outshines team 2 28-27. Way to go FastTax and Hawg, leading the way.

    OK, that part worked ok.

Lets head to the playground. Quick round of 6 stations with pull ups as the counter. I’m not even sure what other exercises we did. This part definitely did not work out right. YHC was very confused about how to split PAX into 6 groups. So rather than multiple rounds, lets just get the heck out of here and go get a rock.

The Thang 2: Line up. What’s the event? 10 Overhead, 10 BBS, 10 Press, Bearcrawl 2 trees (20 yards-ish), mosey back. That’s 1. YHC sets a timer (again, 8 minutes. But don’t tell anyone). Go. OYO. Timer finishes, line everyone up by how many laps they got done (Bogey, FastTax, Vagabond and Hand Gernada led with 7). (one brief pause for 5 Hawg-Burpees as punishment for mocking the Q)

Lets do it again – the winner of each group gets to watch the losers do burpees. YHC sets a timer again (4 mins this time). FastTax, BooBoo, LeftCoast and someone from the “other-side-of-the-fence” group were the winners. Everyone else got to do 5 RevSox Burpees.

Overall, that one worked pretty well. Some room for improvement, though.

The Thang 3: OK, this one didn’t work. I hesitate to write it. But it happened. Partner up. PAX 1 does *whatever PAX 1 wants*. PAX 2 mirrors it. 90 seconds, then flipflop. The idea is to challenge our awareness, responsiveness, agility. Rougarou nailed it with a weird Irish clog dance that Hawg desperately tried to follow. War Eagle seemed to take it to mean “Can I just stand here?” which is, technically, allowed.

This one didn’t work so well. But YHC will adjust and try it again one day. Be warned.

Mosey back to the flag (3 mins late…)

NMM: Thanks, Vagabond, for sharing a story of forgiveness. Good reminder for each of us to avoid holding grudges. Reach out to those we may have hurt, or those who have hurt us. Offer forgiveness. Bring ourselves to feel the forgiveness in our heart, even when our brain is not ready to.

  • The Calm before the storm – from Mahatma

Deciding where I planned to spend my Wed 4-21-21morning I saw that the Foundry needed a Q so why not!?
12 pax showed up with the intention of starting the day with more than hitting the snooze and rolling out of bed.
After a quick disclaimer we moseyed to the track for a warm up consisting of stretching, SSH, WM, something that Double Fudge new the name to, scuba kicks (not knee jerks) then off to the “core” event.
Pax line up (1-12) at mid point of straight away. Pax 1 ran (50-75%) to mid point turn 1, once there he moved into lane 2 while pax 2 started his run, when 2 arrived he moved over to lane 2, pax 3 started and pax 1 started a run to the other end of the track (so 1/2 way around) moved into lane 3, once 3 arrived 4 started, 3 moved over, 2 started. This continued with a 3/4 then a complete full 1/4 mi (1 full run around the track). We completed it (some got a little extra core while waiting for pax to finish) but it wasn’t as “smooth” as it was mentally thought out to be, so rinse and modification – break into 2 groups of 6 then go in reverse – full loop, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4: it could be brought back with additional modification. On to more core – as pax finished there was a line forming in the outer lane, each figured out just join in and ever pax added their version of core to the effort. We finished with a 2:30 minute plank / merkin initiative. Then back to the flags for COT.

Glad to see the crew and the opportunity to lead. We lift up DaParish’s buddy who passed suddenly as well as Disclaimer and his family. We ask for God’s Grace to lead with humility in engaging all who we come into contact with.
God Bless – get ready for the H8 – you against you!

  • A shot of DEWARS – from Rudy

Wednesday marked 1 year anniversary of my Dad’s passing. In the days leading up to his passing, and in the year since then, many of the PAX have reached out to offer YHC comfort, prayers and support. I am forever in all of your debt. Thank you for being here for me.

Today, 6 PAX will get to join YHC in commemorating the anniversary on a surprisingly rain-less day. YHC had prepped the workout under the expectation that we’d be trapped in a downpour under the gazebo. While the weathermen were wrong, the park was still very much a sloppy mess – so what would we have in store? Lets go to the rock pile and find out!

Warm Up: War Eagle takes one look at the muck around the rock pile and whimpers “can’t we go to the parking lot?” OK, lets grab a rock and go to the parking lot. Quick warmup with some stretching, SSH, Imperial Walkers.

    The Thang

Tabata workout. 10 exercises, 45 seconds on, 15 rest. We’ll cycle through 3 times.

    The exercises?
    Dips (using the curb)
    Elf on a Shelf
    Wife Pleasers (with a rock…)
    American Hammer
    Rows
    Squats
    T-merkins
    Overhead Press
    Raises of the Calf variety
    Kettlebell swing

    D.E.W.A.R.S. YHC’s father’s favorite drink.
S.T.O.R.K. YHC’s father was an OB/GYN, and delivering babies was truly his greatest love.

Lots of 80s and 90s rock on the radio. Fast Tax shared YHC’s love for the Bo Deans. Good to find another fan!

Finish up with enough time to rifle carry the rocks back to the pile and mosey back to the flag. Count off and prayers, and War Eagle took us home with an inspirational prayer.

Thanks for the workout, and thanks for all of the support.

  • SPACE – The Final Frontier – from Rudy

Cool gloomy morning – the best kind for a workout. Remember mornings like this when we are in the dog days of July and August. 4 PAX set off after a mislocated disclaimer (YHC was just testing whether the PAX were listening when announcing “Welcome to Okwata”).

60 years ago today: Yuri Gargarin becomes first man in space. 40 years ago today: First takeoff of the US Space Shuttle (Columbia). So a quick SPACE warmup with Side straddle hops, Plank jacks, Abe vigodas, Crunchy frogs and Eight count body builders. Then get a rock. The field was wet. Too wet, even for YHC, so instead head to the parking lot and line up.

Elevens with 8 count body builders and Squat Jumps. 10x Curls or Presses whenever you pass your rock. Then walk/mosey/meander to the gazebo for 2 rounds of Step Ups, Dips, Irkins and Derkins. Grab our rocks and rifle-carry back to the pile for a few rounds of Mary before the run back to the flag.

NMM: Thanks for letting me Q. Weekend reading had included one prayer that prompts me (and all of us) to always strive to be better today than we were yesterday. Each day, we will fall short of our ambitions, our goals, our calling. But that can never let us stop trying to be the man we are called to be the next day. Each morning as the sun comes up, we have a new opportunity, a new gift of a day, to lead by example, by word, by deeds. Let us use this gift of today. Prayers especially for Bolt’s father-in-law, who is in need of those prayers.

  • And then there were 3 – from Rudy

Dreary, Soggy and Rainy am. YHC was silently hopeful that no one would show as he sat in his car in the rain watching the time tick by. 5:21. 5:22. 5:23. Maybe I’ll be able to head home. 5:24. Up in the mist, YHC sees one runner go by and thinks “What a fool”. 5:25. YHC realizes that runner is Hawgcycle. Sigh. So YHC gets out of the car, steps into the rain in order to fulfill his obligation. And at 5:29 Mahatma rolls in hot, seeming to savor the chance to workout in the rain. YHC is not sure the last time he saw such a big smile on Mahatma’s face (it could be, however, that he’s awaiting the call to announce his new grandbaby. you be the judge).

Since YHC is still generally afraid of the rain – lets just grab a rock and head to the gazebo.

Tabata workout, using the playlist YHC and kids put together over the quarantine. Interesting mix of classic rock (YHC), Taylor Swift-ish pop (daughter) and eclectic whatevers (son).

10 exercises. 45 seconds on, 15 rest. Repeat x3. Curls, Sit Ups, Squats, Mountain Climbers, Shoulder Pres, V Ups, Step Ups, 8 Count BBs, Rows, Twists.

One highlight – Hawg also recalling the Epic SNL performance of Faith No More. That was a seminal moment in YHC’s early musical journey…

Had a few extra minutes, so a few wall sits with curls to pass the remaining time.

Return the rocks (tossing them into the puddle to see how big a splash could be made), then return to the (virtual) flag for Count Off, Names, and close with a prayer. Blessings especially on Disclaimer as they prepare to welcome a new baby to the world!

  • Rock City meets Margarita on the Rucks – from Triple Shift

As 10 HIMs are preparing for the GrowRuck Alamo on April 9-11th, we had to put some work in with weights. As expected, the football field was wet with dew and the weather was unseasonably warm at 5:30 am. Here is the link to the explainer video!

Those men at F3 Alamo are killing it with their high quality explainer videos and exercises! In short, it was a suck fest performing rock rows, rockees (burpee with rock), flutter kicks, brickyard man makers, squats and then out 50 yards and back and rinse and repeat for 45 minutes. We had to modify it since your QIC was the only one with a ruck. Anyway, truly humbled by the men that yielded themselves to my leadership this morning. Ended in a prayer of gratitude and request to be growing in our leadership.

  • St. Paddy’s Day Brick Fest – from Rudy

    The Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/04wIJSMgALwapngjBJXwXP?si=dH03I0VjQ0qMJMSTUS5oqA

11 PAX joined YHC for a St. Paddy’s morning fest. Humid, and warm. Good to see some old faces (looking at you Amnesty) and new (Sir Purr! Welcome back to workout #2!)

Lots of green around the horn. Bongo didn’t get the message, but pointed to his light green light on his workout watch as if that counted. Catfish also didn’t get the message, but no PAX had the audacity to call him out for it. Much debate on whether Saban’s yellow-ish highlighter tank was closer to Green than Kuch’s Aqua Athleisure shorts. Thanks to Snooze and Da Parish for CLEARLY wearing their finery. The mom’s of the group (Ya Mom ‘n’ Dem, Mama’s Pride) – B- for effort on the attire front….

Disclaimer, then open up the Pot o’ Gold (i.e., YHC’s Mini) to grab 2 of the red-colored Bars o’ Gold (i.e., “Bricks”). Head to the track.

Quick warmup with some stretching, SSH and IW. Then b/c YHC had often wanted to try it – lets do Bat Wings with the bricks. That’s a good challenge. It will make a return appearance.

    The Thang:

Queue up the Irish Music. We’ll rinse and repeat a tabata-ish workout. 4 Rounds of Exercises (45 seconds on, 15 second rest), then a Lap aruond the track (everything with the bricks).

    + Round 1: Seal Claps, Dying Brick-roaches, Lunges, 8 count body-builders.
+ Round 2: Floyd Mayweathers, Crunchy BrickFrogs, Calf Raises (awkward…), 8 count body-builders.
+ Round 3: Merkins, Irish Twists, Monkey Humpers, 8 count body-builders
+ Round 4: Newston’s Cradle, LBBCs (Little Baby Brick Crunches), Squats, 8 count body builders
    + Round 5: T Merkins, Brick-guins, Side Lunges, 8 count body-builders

Back to the flag. YHC had grand ambitions of getting lots more 8 counts in. But I greatly underestimated the time it would take us in total to run a mile carrying bricks. So OYO over the course of the day – everyone owes about 300 more 8 counts (to commemorate the 1 year anniversary of the initial 8 count challenge, increasing by 1 per day until “No more covid restrictions for the great state of Louisiana”).

COT: Countoff, Name-o-Rama (Sir Purr? Surr Pur?), Announcements and closing out with a prayer. YHC especially wants to thank the “75 Soft” group under whose strict tutelage YHC has been driven to keep reading his bible. Specifically, messages over the last few days have emphasized import of Evangelizing. Its not sufficient for us to just hear good works, or even do good works. We need to be inspiring others through our actions. That applies spiritually, professionally, personally. Thanks 75 Soft-ers.
