🕯️ In Memoriam – 2025 – from Rudy

PAX gathered in the city park gloom. Warm and muggy – temps too warm for December. Welcome back, Crawdad. Always great to have you back in town! Disclaimer given, and PAX moseyed over to the Pavillion for a quick warm up.

The Thang: A look back in those we lost in 2025.

The playlist, representing singers and bands who lost key members:

Thing 1: High Impact People. Pope Frances, Jane Goodall, Jim Lovell.

Can’t make an impact without a solid base to build from. 8 rounds of core exercises – 45 seconds on, 15 second break. Shoulder Taps, Sit Up, LBT, Peter Parker, Parker Peter, American Hammer, Heels to Heaven, Elbow Plank.

Head to the Lawn.

Thing 2: Comedians. George Wendt (Norm from Cheers), Polly Holiday (Flo from Alice), Loretta Swit (Margaret Houlihan from M*A*S*H) and Loni Anderson (Jennifer Harlowe from WKRP).

“Timing is everything”. Except for YHC. The expectation was a 4 corner drill with a 2 minute timer. Well, that didn’t quite pan out. So we modified a bit.

From the center – run to a corner, 20 reps, back to the center and plank / people’s chair. Squats, Merkins, Bobby Hurley’s, Carolina Dry Docks. Planked & waited listening to theme songs.

Head to the Rocks to the tunes of Big Bottoms from Spinal Tap (RIP Rob Reiner)

Thing 3: Actor / Directors. Robert Redford, David Lynch, David Southerland, Rob Reiner

Partner Up. PAX 1 (the Director) holds rifle carry. PAX 2 (the Actor) 10 Squats, 10 Merkins, 10 BBSU. Flapjack. If a Director sees an Actor acting poorly (i.e., doing a “Hand Gernada bend at the waist squat”, call out “CUT” and Actor does 3 burpees).

Then the return of a crowd favorite. PAX 1 plank. PAX 2 balance a rock on P1 back, then rifle carry 20 yards out and back. Flapjack. two times.

Thing 4: Musicians. Brian Wilson, Chuck Mangione, Ace Freely

ROCK – Rows, Overhead, Curls, Kettlebell

Line up. Start with 2x each. Carry the rock to tree #2 and do 4x. Return and do 6x. Then 8x. 10x. Finish with 12x.

Return the rocks, head back to the lawn.

Interlude: Hot Hot Hot by Buster Poindexter – a little karaoke, butt kick, high knees dancing.

Thing 5: Big Personalities – Phil Robertson (Duck Dynasty), Hulk Hogan, Ozzy Osborne, George Foreman

Finish Big – a Burpee Bonanza. 1x on the side. Run to the middle for 2x. Back for 3x. Back for 4x. Keep going until YHC calls it.

Finish with a little Mr Rogers led stretch to the dulcet tunes of Tainted Love.

NMM: Going through the list of people lost in a year is both sad and inspiring. Tales of lives cut short (Malcolm Jamal Warner) remind us not to take anything for granted. People who made a difference through their passion (Jane Goodall started with nothing – no degree, no experience, little more than a pad and a pencil). People who pursued multiple different paths in their lives – reminding us that whenever a door closes on one chapter, another door can open for us – or be kicked in.

May we all bring that passion and dedication to each day we are given.
