  • Slow Ride – from Akbar

4 HIM at the Marsh today. Mumblechatter was all about Goose’s beatdown and the pain he brought to all. JV And YHC were sore from head to toe.

    Conditions: 67 and misty

Warm Up: IW, Grass Grabbers, SSH, Butt Kicks, Self-Love x10

Thang: Slow tempo with focus on form. A beatdown made for the king of form himself, Waterpik. 3 exercises: Block row, goblet squat, merkin.

Block row and goblet squat at one end of the court, run to the other end perform 1 merkin. Perform 1 rep each, and add 1 each round. Rinse and repeat until time runs out. If form is compromised, stay at that number or decrease reps.

Slow jams accompanied us to keep the pace.

    Metallica: Fade to Black
    Foghat: Slow Ride
    Twisted Sister: The Price
    Deep Purple: Perfect Strangers
    Puddle of Mudd: Blurry
Ozzy Osbourne: Dairy of a Madman
    Dokken: Alone Again
    Fleetwood Mac: Tusk
    Pearl Jam: Black

Mary: Leg raises, hello dolly, Little Manny Crunches x10

COT: Jose prayed us out with thanks for the F3 brotherhood and how it changed his life physically and mentally.

Great to see Jose 10k out again with the school break. Waterpik came running in hot after being greeted by 2 dogs on his typical run to the AO. The dogs circled back around and hung out with us for a while, racking JV at one point. Rep counts were 17-20 before calling time. No clean up required this gloom, the playground was in good shape.

    Til next gloom, Akbar

  • The Walls of (Chris) Jericho – from Steve

Simple beatdown at the Marsh this past Monday, the ol’ Walls of Jericho. But these were not the insurmountable, Grundyesque walls of old (which featured bear crawls halfway up the Gipper garage, sprints, and other such nonsense). No, we opted for much shorter walls – Steve-size walls. And good thing, too, we didn’t want to scare away the FNG that JV brought out.

Warmorama: IW’s, windmills, seal jacks, arm circles, cherry pickers, butt kicks, all around 15x IC.

Then a short mosey over to the Treen Center to get cracking on those walls. Seven reps of seven exercises, followed by a lap around the building. Seven times. The exercises were:

    7 burpees
    7 sit-ups
    7 jump squats
    7 t merkins
    7 leg raises
    7 smks
    7 wide arm merkins

Finished all 7 rounds and headed back to the court for one final set of each (OCD kicked in and I couldn’t leave the final count at 49 for each of these, had to bump it up to 50).

COT and naming of our FNG, which was maybe the most painful naming in memory. But welcome, nonetheless, Wrestlemania™! It was great to have a new face out at the Marsh and we look forward to seeing you Saturday. And t-claps to JV for the EH. Thank you men for posting and getting me out there, it always feels good to start the week at the Marsh with you guys.

  • Old faces, new faces – from Waterpik

Brisk 45 degree temps greeted the Pax at the milestone marsh. Speaking of pax there was a mix of old faces (Bushwacker) and new faces (fletch) who showed up for the beatdown. It was good to see fletch out there making his first post to the marsh. And Bushwacker’s return visit reminded us how much we miss his constant chatter throughout the entirety of the
Workout. His stories and commentary were out in full force as were his wardrobe (beanie hat, his trusty sweatshirt and I think he even dragged his bed comforter out there to keep warm. All joking aside , please grace us with your presence more, mr fire fighter.

Thang was 4 corners, then mary.

Men, have a great week! Let’s all try to be the best version of ourselves this week.

  • The Addams family – from Shooter

YHC planned a coupon workout for this Gloom that would see the likes of 5 PAX.. Thank you to Hogsbreath for today’s title, but know gentlemen I have selected with great thought your Addams family names..

We started off with the warmup consisting of 10IC, some 15IC as well as 20IC mixture of Grass grabbers, Torso twists, SSH, Butt kicks, Imperial walkers, Hillbillies and Cherry Pickers..

Our cast members of the day included Hogsbeath (Gomez).. The Stache is golden and Bushwacker is sure to be jealous of how you rock it.. Then there is Akbar (Uncle Fester) wide eyed and refreshed returning from a trip with the family to VA.. Followed by JV (Pugsley) mostly for being the young chap at this mornings AO, but also seems like an individual who might have aggravated a sibling a time or two in his past… Next we have Waterpik (Cousin ITT), now I know there may be some confusion on this one, so let me explain. Last Thursday at the Scramble YHC had noticed Waterpik had not seen the barber in awhile, so much so that at the Mothership Saturday YHC noticed right away that his ears had been pulled back from a trim.. Now it is only fitting that I name myself (Lurch) simply because it was my duty to lead these men this morning..

Workout consisted of coupon Work starting out on the court and at the playground. Each PAX performed Squat thrusters while all did 8 pull-ups. Took to the street carrying coupons along the way alternating sprints, shuffles, back pedals and skips as we made our journey towards the lakefront stopping at each stop sign for called exercise. PAX without coupon did called core work while the PAX with coupon did stated rep count of called exercise. Coupon work consisted of shoulder presses, Block burpees, Kettle swings, One arm alternating kettle swings (which Gomez demonstrated perfectly in rhythm), Curls and cross arm block squats.. I realize there is another name but cannot think of it at the moment..Core work was plank, chillcut plank, Little Manny crunches, leg lifts, hello Dollies and flutter kicks..

Arrived back right on time for count, name and COT…

Appreciate the lead and follow gentlemen and until the next Gloom 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼!!!

  • Methodical Monday – from Akbar

Conditions – upper 60’s, windy, clear with lots of stars

Methodical is defined as something done according to a systematic or established procedure. Which is exactly what 3 PAX did at the Milestone Marsh. We ran the regular big block route to the Lakefront, Rips, and back up Noah’s Ark. YHC made it early today, watch reading 2:19am, since I didn’t synch the watch after battery failure. Pik helped me stay on track throughout the workout.

WU – IW, Hillbillies, arm circles (f/b), SSH, grass grabbers x12

Thang: 2 exercises per stop, OYO, 21-15-9-5 reps (for our non-accountants, that’s 50). Mumblechatter was mostly about weekend soccer and the cool front coming in this weekend.

Mosey to Lakefront stopping at intersections for 21 Merkins, 21 Squats; 15 Merkins, 15 Squats, etc.

Head to the Wall for Freak Nasties, Superman, and splashes from Lake Ponchartrain

Mosey to Rips for Stone mountains with feet on curb, and calf raises. Quick hello to Garfield running by, who promised to be in the gloom soon.

Mosey back to the Marsh stopping at intersections for Shoulder Fly’s, bent over back fly’s – both with a pause at the top on each rep.

    Mary – Leg raises and Little Manny crunches, 4 sets x12, x10 x8, x5

Upcoming: Convergence in New Orleans this Saturday; Hogsbreath/Barcelona leading F3/FIA Thursday Oct 21st at the Lakefront.

Count, name, Pik prayed us out.

As always, a pleasure to spend Monday morning with ya’ll – Akbar

  • Better late than never – from Akbar

YHC woke up to a foggy gloom to start the week out right. Wondering what the neighbor was doing leaving so early for work, a glance at the clock read 5:35. Undeterred, YHC kept on going and arrived at 5:45 – just in time for Waterpik to come running up after his solo beatdown.

We saw two other guys at the playground doing pull ups and merkins and went to introduce ourselves. Turns out one of them was Awol, who has joined us at the lakefront in the past. Invites were issued to both to join us again and we headed to center court for COT. Pik prayed us out with intentions for one of his patients, and an upcoming interview for myself. YHC went back into the gloom for a quick workout before heading home.

  • Something Borrowed – from Akbar

3 PAX at the Marsh this morning, arriving to a near perfect 61 degrees. Mumblechatter before warm up was of course IronPax, and JV was telling his tales of Saturday.

Mentioning his sister’s wedding happening this weekend, the tie in was perfect since YHC had already planned to borrow some ideas of a recent workout and modify it for the Marsh. We could have made the tradition work since Waterpik was wearing something blue and JV is new. But YHC is not old, and no one knows what a sixpence is.

Warm Up: Walkout plank merkin hold x 10. (Standing position, bend at waist, touch the ground and walk out to plank, merkin, walk back up = 1)

Mosey to the lakefront stopping for SSH, IW, Self-Love x10

Lakefront Wall: Freak Nasty/ Bulgarian Split Squat L/R leg 12,8,5 IC

Rips: wall sit + 50 air presses; 25 Calf raises OYO

7’s at Rips stairs: T Merkins bottom, SMC top. JV guessed where this came from, one of Steve’s favorites.

    25 calf raises OYO

Lakefront Wall: Freak Nasties | Copperhead Squats IC 12,8,5 IC

Mosey back to the Marsh, stopping at the first 3 intersections for bear crawls and 5 Merkins. Jog to the Marsh for another round of Wall sit and 50 air presses

Mosey to playground for 7’s: Pull ups and LBC’s

Count, Name, and Pik prayed us out.

Announcements: 7 Year Convergence October 16th at City Park/Mothership

Thanks for letting me lead – Akbar

  • I know where I’m going – from Waterpik

With a hurricane evacuation and some knee soreness in the rear view mirror, it was good to get back on the Q sheet.

Not having been to the marsh in a while ,there was no doubt in my mind that today’s beatdown would include a mosey the lakefront. Its always enjoyable to work out with the lake as a backdrop.

So after a brief warmup and disclaimer, YHC lead the pax to the lakefront for exercises at the sea wall: derkins, freak nasties, step ups, Bulgarian split squats.

Mosey back to the marsh for countoff, prayer.

I’d like to send out a big F3 welcome to fng Junior Varsity who is spending time in our parts while his house in Destrehan is repaired following damage during Ida.

It was good to be back out in the gloom with you guys this morning.

  • Jaybirds – from Akbar

2 Jays gathered this gloom to postpone the punishment of the upper body. When Hammer explained what IPC week 2 looked like, YHC knew the correct decision had been made.

Warm Up: IW, Hilbillies, Grass grabbers, Self-Love x10

Mosey to the Lakefront for the Thang: Light Poles and Ladders

5 light poles. Perform 10 reps of said exercise at pole 1, 20 at pole 2, 30 at pole 3 up to 50 at pole 5. Exercises were as follows:

    Squats, LBC’s, SSH, Rocky Balboa’s

When on set 4 of SSH, we were at a stop sign at Noah’s Ark and a car pulled up. We simultaneously laughed – wondering what the driver must be thinking of 2 grown men flapping around like birds. At least we weren’t doing Monkey Humpers.

Mosey back to the basketball court for Sister Mary Catherine’s. 10, 20, 30, 40 on each line – time called.

    Mary: 25 Mountain Climbers

Short Countorama, Nameorama and YHC prayed us out: safety for South Louisiana, thanks to all of those still helping, and protection from the evil one.

  • Almost a Murph – from Akbar

6 HIM arrived at the Milestone Marsh with a late 0700 start for a Labor Day Murph.

Conditions: Blistering hot and no wind

WU – SSH, Self-Love, High Knees, IW x10

The first run was great, possible YHC’s fastest ever – maybe even a PR. We finished up and headed to the playground to start in reps of 5,10,15 x 20 rounds. Music kept us going with hard rock classics.

With about 5 rounds left, our jam session was interrupted by “How Great Thou Art” (the piano version). Was this divine intervention? We were all doing great. Or did my wife just bogart Spotify for her morning coffee accompanied by hymns? It was the latter, of course. After scrambling to switch it over, we then returned to Quiet Riot’s Bang Your Head and finished up.

Heading out to the last mile, the PAX requested we take the route to the Lakefront, since it was a mile. YHC’s math skills failed again by trying to convert feet to miles on the first run. It was .5 miles, so we came up just short of the traditional Murph.

COT – Hammer prayed us out with prayers of safety and recovery for Louisiana, and those still struggling with COVID.

Bird had some trash bags and we picked up the Marsh as is our custom every Monday. We found a $1 bill on the ground, which we decided to add to our Waffle House tip. Looking forward to some good grub and air conditioning, we headed out only to find that WH had limited food and we couldn’t eat inside. So, we ordered some hot food and sat in the hot parking lot using Jose’s car as a table.

Gret work men, thanks for letting me lead – Akbar
