Not sure if Rudy got the memo but he was scheduled to have the Q today.  Probably enjoying the best sleep of his life dreaming about experiencing the Path of Totality….

Anyway, here’s the thing: run 15 min out past the museum and down the bayou; and back.  OYO, 15 min on track of sprinting the straight aways and jog/walk the curves.

Back at the flag we knocked out LBCs until time was up.  T-Claps to the almighty Woz for showing up for the COT after posting solo for the Coastie.

    Countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts, prayers.

“What man actually needs is not a tension-less state but rather the striving and struggling for some goal worthy of him” – Viktor Frankl

6 men of NOLA gathered in a humid gloom.  Roots represented Uptown again, and Tool posted regardless of his flooded basement.  #Tclaps

    DISCLAIMER

    The Thang

    Two stations:

    1. The Track – Run a lap, then do 10x Burpees.
    2. The Refinery – Set of pullups / dead hang to failure; then a set of parallel bar / L-sit holds to failure.

Pax runs between the two stations (about 0.5 miles each way) for 2.0 / 2.5 sets.

Mosey back to the flag, where we were greeted by the Bucktown Coastie Pax (Da Parish, Triple Shift & Woz).  We welcomed them by sealing the deal with 12x Burpees.  Held the COT, which included the Countoff, Nameorama, Shoutouts, and a Prayer.

    Thanks for letting me lead!

It’s reinvigorating when you do something from the norm.  To harp on Hawg’s theme yesterday at Q-school, everyone has a different perspective and brings something new to the table.  This is why we need new Qs to step up.  For the existing Qs, challenge yourself to be creative in your beatdowns.

The 610 Stomp Pax ended up with over 3.5 miles ran, 40 – 50 burpees. and a great head start on their pullup challenge. #ISI

  • Wait, What? Who?

YHC pulled out onto Metairie Rd this early am hoping to get out to Roosevelt Mall a few minutes early to stretch these aging, tightening hammies.  No such luck, though.  Having forgot about the dreaded intersection closure at Canal and City Park Avenue, YHC started on the lengthy detour and pushed the pedal down to try and arrive on time.

Rolling in hot at 5:28, what sight greets YHC?  Something strange.  Mystifying.  Baffling.  Is that Cowbell?  And Shorty?  Whoa….. And Roots?  Will wonders never cease?  StubHub and Tool also waiting for me, along with one FNG – apparently, he goes by the name “El Wire” and only posts in this strange foreign world called “Uptown”.  Welcome to our part of the world, stranger.  Started the Disclaimer when I was startled by the sound of squealing brakes as Hawg pulled in.  Restarted the disclaimer.

8 PAX took off on the normal Rudy Route.  15 minutes out, 15 minutes back.  The lead pack finished close to 4 miles.  Nice work, Wire/Shorty/Cowbell!

Back at the track, settle in on our 6s for a little ab work waiting on the 6.  LBC x30, then slow Flutters x15.

3 laps of Sprint the straightaway (100m) and mosey the curves.  Total of 6 sprints.  Then just for chuckles finish with 1 more sprint.

Circle up for one more round of slow Flutters (at which point YHC sorta lost count while EH’ing a friend to join us in the circle).

Mosey back to the dual flags, and close the deal with 10 OYO burpees.

Countoff, Name-o-rama (perhaps the fastest FNG naming ever, as Shortly blurts out “Detour”.  Done).  Close with prayer asking for wisdom and guidance, and blessings upon all of us in our quest to be better leaders.

Gentlemen of the Stomp: thank you for letting me lead.  And thank you for pushing me to move farther and faster each day.

  • 610 Stomp #101 – Back on Track

This concluded our two week celebration the 610 Stomp Centennial Celebration.  The Inaugural Stomp went down on August 18th, 2015.  Four men attended that first Stomp and we can proudly say that we have seen the Pax increase a whopping 50% in the past two years as the attendance was 6 this morning.

The original idea was to celebrate the Stomp by running the old route – up Marconi, across Filmore, back down Wisner and into the park past Pan Am Stadium.  Tool did some reconnaissance and found that the construction of the new overpass makes the route difficult, but still passable.  In the end, I decided to retire the old route for good.  It’s just not a very safe route (remember the silver 4 runner going 80 – not sure what the make and model was as it was always going 80 when it past me on Filmore).  There is a lot of running on or near the road, it’s dark, and at times you have to run with traffic.

In memoriam of Cheech’s death during an F3 Lexington run, we went sleeveless and I used the disclaimer to preach running safety.  I went long on the disclaimer, but I thought it was important.  Some good tips I stole from someone else:

    • Ditch the badass black F3 shirt and wear something bright
    • Wear reflective bands or lights to make yourself more visible
    • Run against traffic and stay on sidewalks or grass if possible.
    • Run with a group – leave no man behind.
    • Bring your cellphone.
    • Get an ID bracelet or carry emergency contact info.

    The Thang

The 610 Stomp was originally created to prepare for a Spartan race.  The idea was to jog for 6 minutes and then take one minute to do 10 burpees and catch your breath.  Then repeat until the 45 minutes are up and you are standing back at the flag.  The 6-10 Stomp.  The 6-10 part has been modified to mean different things.  If doing burpees, the Pax usually picks their own number to do.  Sometimes we run for 30 seconds in lieu of burpees (a SFx special).  Sometimes we do something totally different, but today, we were going to get back to the original intention, with one caveat.  Since Side Effects famously got our numbering system of track by making us repeat 610 Stomp #18, the Pax was instructed to do 18 burpees during 2 of the breaks – you could choose when, but extra points if you did them on back to back breaks.

YHC hung with Shorty and we went too far.  We did complete the 86 burpees on the route.  When we got back (6 or 7 minutes late – #Cobains) everyone had to bail except Stubhub.  We sealed the deal with 15 more burpees bringing us to a grand total of 101 for the 101st running of the Stomp.  T-claps to Stubhub who makes his own rules and sealed the deal with 16 burpees.

    Moleskin

Thanks to those that came out to celebrate today.  Cobains for getting back so late.  We had some great representation today.  I went back into the historical records and found that Tool was there with me for the very first Stomp.  Shorty showed up for the second one (he was an FNG at RockCity the day before).  Fracsac shows up in the Backblasts at Stomp #56, although I’m not sure that is his first.  Stubhubb debuted at Stomp #96 and Roots grabbed his passport and posted for the first time at Stomp #101. T-claps to all.

  • 610 Stomp #99 – Let the Celebration Begin

    Conditions:  Temp – 79,  Humidity – 90%, Wind – 1 mph from the SSW.

7 men posted for the 100th running of the 610 Stomp.  (I realize the title says #99, that’s because SFx made us run #18 twice).

Today was a shout out to the most important day in 610 Stomp History, Stomp #14 on 11/17/2015, when Tool took the Q and altered the route.  Tool decided that we would exit the park by the museum and run down the Bayou (Moss St.).  Tool suggested that we run to an area that at that time had a statue of Jefferson Davis on it.  That would be roughly 4.18 miles give or take 2 hundredths.  We completed that route and I don’t think we have ever gone back to the old one.

    The Thang

Today’s instructions were to run as much of the route as you could in 40 minutes, getting back in time for a very special seal the deal.  Puddles, the only canine to every post at an F3 Nola workout has posted 13 times.  The Pax were asked to name the 12 men that have posted at the Stomp more times than Puddles.  1 burpee to honor each man, with a 5 penalty burpee if you shout out the wrong name.  We had about 5 misfires.  Here is the list of the top 12 all-time 610 Stomp Posters.

    1.  Tool
    2. Amnesty
    3. Rudy
    4. Jingle Vader
    5. SFx
    6. Hawg
    7. Shorty
    8. Cowbell
    9. Fracsac
    10. Kimchi
    11. Griswold
    12. OSHA

    • The Stomp was created to train for the Spartan Race in Alabama.  I never really imagined that it would still be going 2 years later.  T-claps to Tool, Amnesty, SFx, Jingle Vader, and Rudy for making sure it had staying power.
    • Two people in the top 12 don’t even live in Louisiana.  Impressive on their part.
    • I think Cowbell is the only one on the list that was an FNG at the Stomp, although OSHA may have been also – but I can’t find any historical records for his FNG post.
    • We’ve had at least 4 guys from out of town AOs post at the Stomp, and one, F3 Beetle from Atlanta, has posted twice.
    • At least one of those four out of towners was still drunk when he posted.
    • Surge Qd the only 610 Stomp he has ever posted at – a 100% Q rating.
    • T-claps to Tool for coming up with the Bayou route.  It is infinitely better than what we had before.
    • T-claps to Triple Shift and Da Parish for joining us from the Coastie to seal the deal and end with a COT together.

  • 610 Stomp #98

It wasn’t just another Stomp….it’s my birthday week stomp…

15 minutes out through the park, down the bayou and turnaround. Head to the track for sprints.

Sprint the straightaways and slow jog/walk the curves.

    Countoff, namerama, shoutouts, and prayer…

  • If My Math is Right – Today Must be Independence Day

No one was signed up for the 4th of July running of the Stomp, so being the good F3 Nola member that I am, I waited until midnight, saw no one had taken it, and dutifully signed up.  I then rolled in hot.  I divided the 5 pax by two and gave each team a number of burpees to achieve during their 45 minute out and back run.  Both teams decided to start with 10 or so and then took off on their run.  When we finished we sealed the deal with 10 more burpees each.  That given the one extra that Stubhub did just for kicks brought the grand total to 231 the same number of years since our great nation declared it’s independence.  Wait, that’s not right?  It’s been 241 years?  Drat…ok everybody do two more burpees.  There we have completed 241 burpees, one for every year since our great nation declared it’s independence.

    • Stubhub and I ran as a team and shared some good second F along the way.  Come to find out I taught both of his daughters math at Sacred Heart.  I told him that just minutes before I incorrectly subtracted 1776 from 2017.  Luckily they have been successful in spite of my efforts.
    • T-claps to everyone that made it out today.  No better way to kick off the celebration than practicing our freedom to assemble.
    • Thanks to Great Britain and their unreasonable rules, we banked 241 burpees for Operation Enduring Warrior Today.

    Thanks,

    Hawg

  • 610 Stomp #96 – Full of Respect

YHC arrived at the AO to find four eager Pax with only a minute to spare, but with a shovel flag in hand.  With the AO properly marked, it was time to give the disclaimer…..and then instructions…

Run the regular route and be back at the track for 0600.  Seeing this was a running AO, the passing of Cheech came up.  YHC saw the Pax be more cautious of traffic, alerting each other of vehicles approaching.  We made it to Orleans Avenue, crossed the bayou, and started the return trip. While preparing to cross Wisner Blvd, where Beauregard previously guarded the entry to City Park, a car ran a red light where the Pax had the right away to cross.  Would the car have stopped if we crossed?  Distracted drivers can be a real threat to a runner, and we must stay aware and look out for one another.
Upon arrival at the track, we executed some LBC’s while waiting for the six, then went right into the Rudy special….Sprints! Three laps, sprint the straightaways and mosey the corners. Hey look, we have time to bank some burpees for Cadre Danny! 10 Burpees OYO! Times up, let’s mosey to the flag.

Count off, name-o-rama – where Tool and I discovered the other three Pax were Respect. So, with the Pax posting today being more than 50 percent Respect, YHC calls that Full of Respect!
Announcements and a prayer to the Sky Q, thankful for the day, and asking for guidance to make the most of it.

    Thanks for posting!

YHC intends to invest in some high visibility gear to mitigate the risk of incident caused by distracted drivers while running in the gloom. Hawg also posted some good information on the GroupMe app for identification purposes in the event that worse case scenario becomes a reality.

  • Stomp #93 – Running & Rucking

Good turnout with nine PAX in City Park this am for the Stomp.  YHC noticed last week that someone must have signed me up to Q so I kicked around a few ideas to vary up our running workout, aka The Stomp.  With lots of running and rucking on the radar for the rest of the week, I figured we shouldn’t go too hard on the legs and mix up the moseying with some calisthenics , speed work, and body weight exercises.  Several guys showed up with rucks so it became evident that we would be splitting up the PAX.  T-claps to Bubba, Fracsac, JV, and FNG Grave Digger for the early warmup run before their ruck.  Blast off at 5:30 with 5 runners and 4 ruckers, all in the direction of the museum.  Welcome Cowboy from F3-Nashville who showed up in the nick of time.

    Here’s what the runners did:

    • Mosey to the museum (0.6 miles)
    • COP on Museum Steps: SSHx20, Windmillx20,Peter Parkerx20, Skater Jumpsx20 (these were ugly and bad timing with ruckers passing by to witness the botched form)
    • Line up for a Burpee Catch Me If You Can Indian Run around the Big Lake track. (0.75 miles)
    • Run down and back on Lelong Dr. with a bit of speedwork, alternating reg pace and face pace between the light post. (0.4 miles)
    • Dips x20 on the cement ledge, just cause it was there
    • Another run down and back on Lelong Dr. with a bit of speedwork, alternating reg pace and face pace between every second light post.  (0.4 miles)
    • Dips x20 on the cement ledge, to catch our breath
    • Run around the Great Lake again OYO and if finished early, loop around the Museum and till the six shows up.  T-claps to Cowboy for pushing hard. (0.75 miles + lagniappe for Cowboy)
    • Mosey back to base.  (0.6 miles)
    • Two minutes left so one last mosey, this time around the Roosevelt Mall circle. (0.15 miles)
    • LBC x40 IC to seal the deal.
    • Total Distance = 3.65 miles according to geodistance.com

Here’s what the ruckers did (according to Fracsac’s MapMyRun post):

    • Pre-workout mosey of 1.64 miles
    • Rucked 2.92 mi at a 15:39 pace

COT included a rather drawn out naming process for Grave Digger.  Welcome and t-claps to Quick Draw for the EH.  Prayer to close it out.

    Always great to lead.

    Tool

Moleskin:  YHC advises future Q’s to use caution if they decided to try skater jumps in a workout.  They looked cool when watching the online Men’s Health video of the ripped guy doing them but backfired a bit when the YHC attempted to lead them during a COP.  Maybe there’s a reason they’re not on the F3 recommended exercise list.

  • Rucking Around in the Rain

Ruck for 45 minutes in the rain: that’s about it–if you’re counting time.  But life’s a journey.

So after Cowbell ditched his Q to stay an extra day at Orange Beach, and after Da Parish texted at 5:04 that he would be fartsacking (dude, you’re already up!), and after Rudy was fearing that he might even like the Green Eggs and Ham if he tried it, and after an apparent loss of the Red Pill amongst others, an intrepid PAX of two showed up in the rain for a nice stroll along Bayou St. John with their rucks.

When you’re rucking, the F1 is on autopilot, so the F2 kicks into gear.  A nice chat about life.  The rain stopped when we finished: I love the rain in late spring.  A great time for a beatdown.

Prayers for Fracsac’s father who begins radiation treatment.
