  • Tick Tock – from Hawgcycle

Conditions: Cloudy, 75 degrees, Humidity 88%, Wind 5 m/h from SSE (disappointingly dry.)

Pax: Almonaster, Boge, Catfish, Cheetos (FNG), Eagle Fang, Heisenberg, Igor, Java (FNG), PVC, Revit, Roach (FNG), Rudy, Spalding, Thighs, Tool, Triple, Vagabond, YHC

The Cantores were out last night, predicting a monsoon this morning. Excited to get wet, YHC laid out the swim trunks and took the Q. As previously established, YHC has little faith in the Pax’s desire to overcome conditions. So I started planning a workout for somewhere between 2-4 pax. I arrived at the flagless meeting point a customary 2 minutes early shocked to find more people than I could count on my hands….much less keep up with during the workout.

    The Thang
    • Mosey to the far side of the mediocre lawn and circle up for the warm-up: SSH x 25; Imperial Walkers x 20; Don Quixote x 10; Merkins x 10, Peter Parker x 15; Parker Peter x 15; Tempo Merkins x 10; Squats x 15; Lunges x 20; Low Slow Squats x 15
    • Mosey to the Foundry. Plank and wait for the six
    • Bernie Sanders (Hang in there as long as you can) – Partner up. Pax 1 does hangs starting above the bar and then below the bar for as long as possible. Pax 2 makes there way through BLIMPS. When Partner 1 can take no more – flap jack. Keep flap jacking, always picking up where you left off on BLIMPs until time is called
    • Start the mosey to the Football field stopping for 10 Catalina Wine Mixers
    • Continue mosey to Football field stopping under 610 for clock merkins (6 @ 12:00, 5 @3:00, 4@6:00, 5@9:00)
    • Continue mosey stopping in a mess of grass for 15 sumo squats
    • Arrive at football field and bear crawl 100 yards Then partner up and sled bear crawl back, switching on Q’s command. For sled bear crawl think the sled you push in football practice. One pax bear crawls while other pax stands in front of him pushing against his shoulders, providing resistance. We made it about 50-75 yards
    • Mosey to the parking bollards and balance for the six. Not a lot of participation on this one.
    • Start the Mosey back to the flag, taking a dangerous shortcut under 610 for the barefooted among us. Pausing at the Indoor Pickle Ball courts for some semi-balls to the wall
    • Continue mosey stopping for some alternating step ups by the Children’s Museum
    • Continue the mosey stopping for crunchy frogs.
    • Reach the flag 2 minutes early and finish up with penguins and 100s

    NMM
    • YHC was not prepared for the number of Pax this morning. Maybe there are heartier guys in F3 NOLA than I thought. It’s hard to lead a bunch of dudes all over City Park. Pro-tip: Start the warm-up with SSH and then proceed to rotate in a circle counting each guy as the Pax count the numbers. I am pro, so I did this. The problem was the number was too high for me. I got lost somewhere around 14 or 15.
    • Why do you need to count the pax? Because you need to make sure everyone stays with you, especially if you plan to cover a lot of ground, as I hoped to.
    • I had no clue how many people were with us. I thought there were 17 in the beginning, but then we had an even number at the Foundry? Then Tool left and we had even numbers again at the Football field? Was it because there was a Vagabond wandering aimlessly around the park, sometimes with us, sometimes not? Was it Almonaster that showed up 55 minutes late? Was it because Tool disappeared? Or is it because YHC has trouble counting once the numbers get into the double digits? I don’t know, but it was not good. I think I got all the FNGs back to the flag. There were only 3, so I could manage that. For all I know, there may still be someone out there. I also don’t have much faith in the pax ability to navigate City Park solo. Maybe if the Renaissance guys could take a drive around the park tomorrow just to make sure?
    • Roach wasn’t too excited about his name. Don’t worry Roach, we came up with another one at coffeeteria. We will gladly change it next week if you want. It’s up to you.
    • The sled bear crawl is my new favorite exercise.
    • The barefoot movement is afoot. Three au naturale pax today. That makes 4 for the week.
    • The indoor pickle ball courts need some work. The smell is reminiscent of the WPM stairwell. A number of pax warily stood by the street refusing to enter the grounds. It was telling of how much of their trust I had earned 45 minutes in.
    • I wish we could have had a photo shoot there though. The graffiti had Stone Mountain written all over it.
    • Less than half way through the workout The Boge started chirping in my ear about getting back to the flag on time. Everytime we stopped for a COP he reminded me that I needed to consider the distance back and the time remaining. I later learned that The Boge was watchless. Does he just have an innate sense of time or was it his familiarity with the Q that caused his anxiety?

  • Not going to follow the rules – from Mambi

Met at the normal meeting place.
Gave the disclaimer and instructed PAX to head to the middle of the football field at Pontiff.

Hokie and Belloq separated from the group for a recovery workout.

A line from Fracsac’s BB, “Warmup with the regular stuff.”

Mosey to the nearest bench area. For Left step-ups, dips, and right leg step-ups. 16,12,8,4 reps.
Mosey to the front of the Gym (or back side) calf raises 3 different ways, merkins, 3 different ways. 16,12,8,4 reps.
Mosey to the next bench area. Deconstructed Burpee 3 different parts, Mary, 3 different exercises. 16,12,8,4 reps.
Mosey back to football field. Finished with suicides and a long sprint the length of the football field.

Thank you everyone for posting and for your thoughts and prayers.

One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”

    God Bless.

  • Putting the 610 Back into The Stomp – from Hawgcycle

Conditions: Partly Cloudy and 75 degrees. Humidity 88%. Wind 6 m/h from the SSE

Pax: Abacus, Amnesty, Catfish, Cracklin’, Rudy, Saban, Tool, and YHC

    The Thang:
    • Traditional Bayou Route
    • 22 minutes out and 22 minutes back
    • 6 minutes of running. 1 minute of burpees and recovery. Repeat until you get back to the flag.
    • Seal the Deal

    NMM
    • The excitement was audible when I announced that we would be doing the traditional 610 Stomp workout.
    • Tool informed me that the 610 Stomp was rebranded as just The Stomp a few years ago. Remember when Radio Shack tried to just be The Shack? Hopefully we can learn from the mistakes of that once proud franchise. Like the TRS-80, the burpee is full of promise. Embrace it.
    • Amnesty was fired up after this workout. He and Tool were headed home to enter the next available Spartan Race, ironically, using a dial-up connection on Tool’s TRS-80.
    • Rudy and YHC were out in front to the turn-around. Rudy had informed YHC that he needed to slow down, because this was not a conversational pace. From that point on, YHC worked to keep that pace, knowing that Rudy would slow down, or at least stop talking.
    • I kid, I kid.
    • Saban was right there with us when we turned around, then he must have gotten spooked because he took off like a bat out of hell.
    • Catfish and Cracklin’ were right behind us talking about electron structures? Maybe I was hallucinating. It was muggy and we were running fairly fast, but I think they may have figured out Cold Fusion.
    • Much more productive than my conversation with Rudy, which centered around a large wart on my knee and the way it has changed in the past year.
    • Why did Saban take of so fast?

  • Oh look, here is a new spot – from Hokie

On Saturday night, YHC saw no one had signed up to Q Renaissance, so I signed up and designed a plan for or workout.

Sunday I woke up with a sore back and went ah heck, I need to come up with a new plan to accommodate and pull this off…. or modify greatly if no one shows up 😉

As 0630 arrived, there were 5 other Pax present so on with a new plan we went…

    Warm-o-rama

    Facing the bacon

    20 side straddle hops,
    20 imperial walkers,
    10 Slow Vigodas
    10 Concrete Grabbers

We partnered up and wheel barreled the short distance along the back
    Switch and wheel barrel back
20 decline merkins utilizing the railing
    20 low slow squats

We lunged the long length back to the Adirondack chairs for

  • Frac Week Kicks Off – from Fracsac

YHC arrived at the Renaissance and planted the shovel flag early in order to welcome the Pax that dared show to the kick off of Frac Week. Surge, Heisenberg, Vagabond, BayWatch, Tool, MacGyver and YHC were ready to roll at 0630. The disclaimer included the standard modify as needed, but no “Whiskey-Dicking!”

Face the bacon for standard warmup which included some arm circles and MNC where dancing was highly encouraged!

Mosey to the field for a little EMOM with 10 burpees x 5 minutes. The pax easily completed this task, questioning YHCs stopping at 5 minutes!

Mosey to the hill near the LCM for some gravity derkins and Big boi sit-ups. Then circle up for some bear crawl and Catalina Wine mixers x 10.

Mosey back toward NOMA with Good Morning Burpees fun. YHC found a young lady walking and veered in that direction. BayWatch yelled good morning from about 50 yards away, which did not earn a return good morning. Said lady seemed to pick up her pace in the opposite direction. 10 burpees for the pax!
Mosey to NOMA where more good mornings were called out. Total at this point was 80 burpees.
Set up some cones in the field for a few minutes of ultimate football with burpees . It was 3 on 4, with YHC, Vagabond and Surge thumping the other team. It’s YHCs week, so slight bending of the rules are allowed….

Back of NOMA for 5 x Sunday mornings.

Good morning Burpees again on the way back to the flag!

Roughly 100 burpees complete on top of the other awesome stuff.

    – If you listen to the F3 COT podcast, you heard our Nations Nant’an (Slaughter) questioning if the Pax were getting soft on the 1st F. Frac Week will determine if that is true. The HIMs at the Renaissance proved him wrong! Solid work from these Pax!
    – What is “Whiskey-Dicking” you ask? From the F3 Lexicon it is the Tentative execution of a task. In other words, not completing the burpees because you don’t want to. Are you modifying or are you Whiskey-Dicking??
    – Thanks to the 6 Pax that joined to kick off Frac Week!

  • Double-Nickel Training Begins – from Hawgcycle

I’m not sure if you have heard, but the inaugural double-nickel is happening in August. This brain child of F3 NOLA’s own, Rudy Tootie Fresh and Fruity is soon to become to 55 year old men what Bar Mitzvahs, Quinceaneras and Debutante Balls are to the youth of the world.
The excitement for the double-nickel has been palpable the past few weeks as we have all eagerly awaited the official start of our training regiment. There was a soft opening on Monday with some strength training, but it got real on Tuesday with the start of our training runs.

Rev Sox and I decided to bring back the Parten Patrol, the Tuesday morning run from YHC’s house to The Stomp (3.5 miles). We posted our Launch time and received three commitments to join us. Kuch, planned to drive to my house, Rudy would meet us as we passed his street and we would meet Tool in the middle as he started toward us from his house.

Rev Sox and I, dressed in our Tuesday attire, stepped off at precisely 0453. Kuch was nowhere to be found. We later learned that he got lost on the way when an Ambulance passed by and he instinctively ran after it.

When we passed Rudy’s street, Rudy was not there. I called him immediately.

    Rudy: Who is this?

YHC: Who do you think it is? Where are you?

Rudy: Oh. Good morning Hawg. I’m in an Ambulance on my way to Ochsner. I’ve been coughing up blood all night. I was still planning on running with you all. I got to the meeting spot a little early, but Noelle called 911. The ambulance picked me up on Metairie Road. I was too weak to fight them off.

YHC: How are you going to finish the double nickel if you can’t fight off a couple of paramedics?

Rudy: I know. I have a long way to go. What is that?!?

    YHC: Huh?

Rudy: Some guy in a tank top is chasing us. I have to go. The smaller lady paramedic is giving me the stink eye. I’ll see if I can escape at the next stop and join y’all. If not can you take the Q?

    YHC: Lady Paramedics?

    Rudy: …Dial Tone

I informed Rev about the tickle in Rudy’s throat and we proceeded toward the Stomp, eagerly anticipating our rendezvous with Tool. We were expecting to meet him a little sooner than we did, but at least Tool didn’t let us down like the others. We met him about 3 feet from the start of the Stomp.

I took the Q and with my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics I was able to easily divide 45 minutes evenly, instructing the Pax to run out 22 minutes and 30 seconds and then come back at the same exact speed. This saves us from having to do five minutes of Mary at the end of a running workout, like we often have to do when someone with a lesser understanding of mathematics leads.
