  • Fore! – from Landing Strip

I thought I was dusting off an oldie-but-goodie with a morning run/workout through Audubon Golf Course, but low and behold MacGyver beat me to it a week or so ago. Nevertheless, we persevered…

    Warmup
We moseyed over to in front of the clubhouse for the following exercises:
    -20 x SSH
    -15 x Forward Arm Circles
    -15 x Self Love

    Tha Thang
We then moseyed through the course, hole-by-hole. Each hole was accompanied by an exercise, with reps to match the # of the hole. But we waited for the 6 to finish that # of exercises before moving on. Make sense? Yeah, it was kind of confusing out there as well.

    Here were the exercises:
    1. Burpee(s)
    2. Diamond Merkins
    3. Mountain Climbers
    4. Wide Arm Merkins
    5. Peter Parker
    6. Incline Merkins
    7. Parker Peter
    8. Decline Merkins
    9. Air Presses
    10. LBCs
    11. Flutter Kicks
    12. LBTs
    13. Hello Dollies
    14. J-Los
    15. High Planks (didn’t get to these)
    16. Low Planks (didn’t get to these)
    17. Mission Impossible (didn’t get to these)
    18. Big Boy Situps

We were a few minutes late back to the flag, and there were some stragglers / bathroom breakers, but all in all, a solid workout wherein 5k+ was covered!

The goal this morning was to meander the AO through the park on the way to meet Rudy and his 55k krewe…so that’s what we did!

Then we moseyed across the track to the Drew Brees Playground for a station workout with the following activities:

Then we moseyed up to the pull up bars for another station workout with the following activities:

  • On the River with Big Freedia – The Twerk Heard Round the Swirl – from Willie

11 Pax met at the entrance to Audubon Zoo for a kettle bell work out led by yours truly. I had my bluetooth speaker in tow with a new and improved F3 playlist. My standard rules apply to the music. If any of the PAX want to skip a song, it means 5 burpees for everyone. There is only one skip at a time, so we are all stuck with the next song. Almonaster did the honor of hitting “shuffle” to begin the workout. After a short warmup, the PAX carried their bells to the banks of the Mississippi River to start the beatdown. Warm ups consisted of the following:

    Halos x 10 both directions, Self Love x 20 oyo, Grass Grabbers IC x 10, SSH IC x 20

At the river, we partnered up for a DORA 100, 200, 300… One Partner bear crawled about 20 yards then proceeded to run to the levee and back, while the other Partner did the following:

100 kettle bell pull throughs (1 is 1), 200 LBCs with the bell, 300 overhead press.

After we shook out our shoulders on a 20 count, the PAX then circled up for a Big Freedia Ring of fire.

All Pax held in Al Gore position. Pax 1 did a low slow squat with 20 pulses counting out loud to 10. At 10 the next PAX started his pulses, and so on.. This was followed by Monkey Humpers, all to the music of local hip hop artists Big Freedia, Mystikal, DJ Jubilee, and Freak Nasty.

The PAX and their bells made it back to the flag with a few minutes left on the clock for some Mary. Sandbar called for a skip making the PAX do 5 burpees at the very end of the workout. We closed Sweaty Bells with COT, then breakfast ensued at Panola Cafe.

It’s always a pleasure leading such a great group of men!

  • The Day After 100 Burpees – from King Kong

After 100 burpees and running up and down Wolfpack Mountain multiple times yesterday, I decided stay away from burpees. 9 strong Pax showed up on a beautiful Saturday morning.

First stop, we ran to middle of Tulane campus and did the following warm-ups:
self love, forward & backward arm circles, windmills, grassgrabbers, and SSHs.

Second stop, we moseyed to Tulane library and did Dora 1, 2, 3. While one pax ran that loop around the parking lot, the other Pax was doing the following exercises: 100 rows, 200 step ups, and 300 American Hammers cumulatively.

Third stop, we ran to the steps in front of Tulane’s UC. We did inclined merkins at the steps. First step with 2 merkins, 2nd step with 4 merkins, 3rd step with 6 merkins, 4th step with 8 merkins, 5th step with 10 merkins, 6th step with 8 merkins, 7th step with 6 merkins, 8th step with 4 merkins, 9th step with 2 merkins. Total of 50 merkins.

Fourth stop, we moseyed to the base of the small mountain. We ran backward up the ramps and forward on the flats to the very top. We stopped on the first level and did 15 hello dollies in cadence, second level to do 20 flutterkicks in cadence, and 3rd level with protractors.

We then moseyed back to the flag with COT. We prayed for Tenderloin with his recovery and Big Willie’s friend’s daughter who is battling leukemia. We are always thankful and grateful to have our physical and mental strength so that we can push ourselves everyday…. but today, we did ZERO burpees. SYITG.

  • Making it “uncomfortable” – from Sandbar

YHC kicked off his last WPM as site Q exhorting the PAX to push themselves and step out of their “comfort” zones with their reps and runs.

Mosey to the Loyola Palm circle for the Warm up. SSH, 5 burpees, Low slow squats, Windmills, Grassgrabbers, 10 more burpees.

Mosey to the mountain. Pair up for the burpee ladder. One pax does 10 burpees while the other runs up one ramp and flat and does LBCs until the second PAX catches up and then runs past up one ramp and one flat and does 10 burpees. This added 30 more burpees.

At the top we did 10 more burpees at the far end of the garage, then moseyed back and did 10 more burpees. (running total 65). Then all PAX down the stairs and 5 more burpees. Back up the stairs and 15 burpees. Back down the stairs and 10 burpees. Back up and 5 burpees. That completed a century of burpees @Bolt!.

Back down the stairs and the PAX moseyed to ROTC pullup bars. YHC reminisced about spending 3 years next door at TLS, and smoking a cigarette with Antonin Scalia in the breezeway and sharing a beer with Ralph Nader just inside. 20 yrs goes by fast.

At the pullup bars the PAX split into 4 groups – pullups, merkins, dips and LBOs. Count was 10 pullups and we ran the cycle 4 times.

Mosey back to the flag and COT. YHC announced that after 3 1/2 years as site Q he was handing the mantle to @meatball. Thanks for the opportunity. Find ways to make yourself uncomfortable.

  • Whatever It Takes to Win a Race – from King Kong

Before I arrived at the AO, I made a stop to drop off couple coupons in the front of the statue at Audubon Zoo. At 5:30 a.m. 15 Pax gathered at our imaginary flag. I gave my disclaimer and then headed towards the grass field in front of Audubon Zoo with few warm-ups in cadence: self-love, windmills, low slow squats, SSHs, Hillbillies, and Imperial Walkers.

After our warm-ups, we moseyed to the statue at the Zoo. Upon Seaman’s request, we did reverse arm-circles and forward arm-circles. Then we did the following:

    Thang 1
Hand release Merkins x 15 in slow cadence
    Lunges x 15 in cadence
    LBCs x 15 in cadence
We formed 2 lines and Indian Ran to Magazine Street and back with the coupon. The PAX at the front of the line was carrying the brick.

    Thang 2
Incline Merkins x 15 in slow cadence
    Squats x 15 in cadence
American Hammers x 20 in cadence
Indian Ran to Magazine Street and back…. except this time it’s a race. Losers did 5 burpees. With that in mind, G-Spot just took off with one of the coupon.

    Thang 3
Decline Merkins x 10 in slow cadence
Step Ups x 20 in cadence
Crunchy Frogs x 20 in cadence
Indian Ran to Magazine Street and back with the coupons.

    Thang 4
Decline Shoulder Taps x 15 in cadence
Sitting position with over head claps x 15 in cadence
    Flutterkicks x 15 in cadence

    Thang 5
Another race!!! We formed 2 lines in a plank position. The coupon was located with the last Pax in line. After he pulled through the brick to the next Pax, he got up and ran to the front of the line and planked. Rinse and repeat until the entire team got past the third light post. Losers did 5 burpees.

    Thang 6
Final race!!! We formed 2 lines in a standing position. The coupon started off with the last Pax in line. After the Pax did an overhead press, he passed the coupon to the next Pax and ran to the front of the line. Rinse and repeat until the entire team got back to the stop sign by the statue. We were all winners, and everyone did 5 burpees.

Circled up in front of the Zoo with some Mary’s: Hello Dolly’s x 15 in cadence, Ukraine x 20 in cadence, Protractors.

Moseyed back to the flag for some COT.

We prayed for my friend John with his speedy recovery after his cancer surgery. We prayed for Tenderloin with a successful, smooth surgery this Friday. We also prayed for safe travels for family and friends who are traveling and rounding up summer vacations. Finally, we asked Sky Q to continue to give us physical and mental strength so that we can continue to lead in our communities.

  • Independence Day – are you smarter than a 5th grader? – from Hokie

On a hot, steamy and soon to be rainy Afternoon Delight, 7, then 8, then 9 and finally 10 Pax gathered for a little education and sweat and unfortunately burpees

After the warm-o-Rama YHC informed the Pax, I would ask a history question about our Independence Day origin.

After each correct answer, we would follow with 3 exercises 7.4.1776…7 reps of the 1st, 4 reps of the 2nd, 17 reps of the 3rd, and 76 reps of the 4th.

If there was an incorrect answer, we would start with 10 penalty burpees.

Here are the questions, along with correct answers and the four exercises after each question.

Btw – we did 80 penalty burpees 😜

    1. What date did Continental Congress declare its freedom from Britain? ~ July 2, 1776 ~ On July 4, 1776, once the delegates had prepared an explanation to the public, the Declaration of Independence was read in each colony and adopted by Congress. When the Lee Resolution was brought again before the Continental Congress on July 2, 1776, twelve colonies adopted it with New York abstaining. On July 4, only nine colonies voted in favor of adopting the Declaration of Independence. Pennsylvania and South Carolina voted No, Delaware was Undecided and New York Abstained.

    2. When was The Declaration of Independence Signed? Once the Congress approved the actual Declaration of Independence document on July 4, it ordered that it be sent to a printer named John Dunlap. About 200 copies of the Dunlap Broadside were printed. Most of the members of the Continental Congress signed a version of the Declaration on August 2, 1776 in Philadelphia. The last signature was not obtained until 11.04.76

    3. How many copies of the Original Declaration of Independence Exist today? 26 Originally, Congress ordered 200 copies of the Declaration of Independence from a printer named John Dunlap. On July 5, 1776, these copies were distributed to various assemblies, conventions, committees, and leaders of Continental battalions. However, only 26 of the original copies of the Declaration are still in existence today. The most prominent one lives in the National Archives, where it has been framed, protected, and displayed for public viewing.

    4. What is written on the back of The Declaration of Independence? Unfortunately for National Treasure fans, it’s not an invisible treasure map. Written upside down on the back of the document reads: “Original Declaration of Independence dates 4th July 1776.” It’s believed this text was added as a label, as parchment was oftentimes rolled up for transport during the Revolutionary War.

How many authors are there of The Declaration of Independence? 5 John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, Robert R. Livingston of New York, Roger Sherman of Connecticut, and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia. There were a total of 86 edits to Jefferson’s original draft by the time of its approval on July 4, but the famous Preamble remained untouched.

    7. How many of the authors signed The Declaration of Independence ? 4 Robert Livingston was a New York delegate, fervent patriot, and a member of the Committee of Five, which spent days drafting the Declaration of Independence. After countless hours of debating, Livingston was ultimately unable to sign the document. Although Livingston strongly supported the fight for freedom, he refused to sign the document before New York had formally instructed its delegation to do so. The last person to sign was Matthew Thornton, who signed it on November 4, 1776. Robert Livingston, one of the Committee of Five members, never signed it, stating it was too soon to declare independence from Britain.
