  • Black Friday Gut Buster Queue

The morning was dark with a crescent moon and Jupiter trailing in ascension. My belly was full with gallopavo, stuffing, and beer! Saban greeted me saying I wouldn’t have to Queue alone. As we arrived we thought we might have a Metairie workout, as no one else was at the Flag, or at least where the flag should be. According to legend Roots lost it during yesterday’s Turkey Trot. That is at least what I was told because Roots didn’t show up to defend his honor. As we walked up to the Post out of the gloom came Nip Tuck, Duey, Bartman, and Spool. OH YEA!!! We are going to have a beat down!!

Started with a warm up jog to Gibson Quad at Tulane. Asked if it was fast enough most said “It’s okay..but certainly faster than ‘The Metairie’”. We did a circle of side straddle hops, arm cirlces (fwd/bck), and mountain climbers. Asked if everyone was warmed up and limbered up and the reply came back “It’s okay..but certainly more limber than ‘The Metairie’”.

We moseyed over to the Navy Building for some Pull Ups and LBCs. Breaking up into 2 groups we did 30 P/Us as the count. After a quick repetition we hustled over to WolfPack Mountain, up to the 2nd deck. From there we would push each other to new heights! We started with a modified Jack Webb doing 5 mericans w/ 10 air presses. We lunged our way up the incline and jogged over to the next incline where we increased the Jack Webbs to 10/20 followed by more lunges up the incline. We repeated this going up to 20/40. For the final incline we thought it best to bear crawl up the last part of WolfPack mountain. When asked the queue if this was hard they said “It’s okay…but its harder than ‘The Metairie’”. So we circled up for something about Mary where we went from LBC’s, to Pickle Pounders, to LBTs, to PutTrumpins, back to Pickle Pounders, to flutter kicks, and Hello Dolly’s!

As the sun was rising we hustled down the stairs and over the the fountain benches by the post were we went through a series of Dips, Shoulder Slaps, and Kossak Dips. When asked if this was hard, the group said “Yea it was hard…too hard for ‘The Metairie’”!

  • Yoga-free Friday

I had the pax settled in for a light stretching warm up and was about to roll out the Yoga mats when Rudy arrived on the scene. To not further the Uptown image as a pax of lightweights I audibled.

    Thang:

Progressive burpees around the jogging track: burpee plus one more at each successive jogging man icon on the track. Plank and wait.

Slow mosey through the roots and then mosey back up Walnut street to St Charles.

LIMPS: Lunges x 10, Imperial Walker x 15, merkins x 20, Plank Jack x 25, Squats x 30 ad we ran down the neutral ground. New exercise at each crossstreet until set LIMPS.  Creative street car dodging included.

As an F3 ad and to block the neutral ground for joggers we did some plank work followed by mission impossible x 20s.

Mosey across the Loyola campus to the Tulane ROTC pull up bars.  3 groups.  First group on the pull up bars with 1/2 the group spotting to 10 and then alternating so the spotters get their 10. Other two groups doing step ups and incline/decline merkins.  10 is all the pull-ups YHC can muster so one set it is.

Mosey back to WP mountain.  Divide up in 2  lines and Indian run to the top. Nice work.

20 count and partner up. Running partner takes stairs to 5th floor, runs up the ramp to 6, and then stairs up to 7. Stay at home partner does LBCs while mourning loss of running partner.  Switch.  Repeat twice more with shoulder taps and real Freddy Mercuries being the exercise.

Mosey back to the place-where-we-normally-leave-the-flag for nameorama and sweaty COT.  QIC expanded on the Proverbs verse ‘as iron sharpens iron, man sharpens man’ and asked the Lord to help us strengthen each other. Yoga next Friday!

  • Can’t Escape Golden Moutain

The pungent urine smell did not stop the PAX from tackling wolfpack mountain. Our friends at Loyola helped out with an orange cone placed by the large piss puddle in the stairwell. (T-claps for the head’s up, I guess)

Disclaimer then mosey up the stairs (over the puddle) to the top of mountain.

The Warm-Up: No Need (If you want a warm-up, go to Metairie)

    The Thang:

    1. Down stairs to 1st floor then back up: Squats x10, PlankJacks x10, LBT x10, Merkins x10
    2. Down to 2nd floor then back up: Squats x10, PlankJacks x10, LBT x10, Merkins x10 – repeat once
    3. Down to 3rd floor then back up: Squats x10, PlankJacks x10, LBT x10, Merkins x10 – repeat twice
    4. Down to 4th floor then up the ramp: Hello Dollys x10, Flutters x10, Putin x10, Merkins x10
    5. Down to 5th floor then up the ramp: Hello Dollys x10, Flutters x10, Putin x10, Merkins x10 – repeat once
    6. Down to 6th floor then up the ramp: Hello Dollys x10, Flutters x10, Putin x10, Merkins x10 – repeat twice

Down the stairs to the benches: RLSU x10, Dips X20, LLSU x15, Derkins x10

Over to the Loyola lawn: Elbow Peter Parkers x20, Plank Walks x20, Dying Cockroach x20, Elbow Pickle Pounders x20, MI hold 20 sec

Back to flag for count off, name-o-rama & prayer

    Good times…Thanks

  • Orion’s Belt at Wolfpack Mtn

14 Pax for our best weather of the year!

I knew we would be star-gazing with the Orionid meteor shower this AM. The full moon and lights at the top of Wolfpack MTN didn’t help us.

We took a quick run across the street for a COP in front of Tulane.
    SSH x 20, Imp Walker Squats x 20, Mtn Climbers x 25, Plank Walks x 20

Mosey’d to the base of Wolfpack Mtn then up the stairs taking 2 or 3 stairs at a time. Once we got to the top we laid on our backs for Mary while it was still dark enough to enjoy the Meteor show. The full moon was a little too bright as were the parking lights at the top of Wolfpack Mtn.

Mary: LBC x 20, **we got our first shooting star in the first set! LBT x 20, Dying Cockroach x 20, Wife Pleasers with one leg x 20, Russian Twists x 20

Then we set up for a few one story laps. Separate with partners.
    Lap 1
Partner 1: Down the stairs one floor – backwards run up the ramp, sprint to PAX
Partner 2: Nolan Ryan Pushups (then switch)
    Lap 2
P1: backwards lunge up the ramp, sprint to PAX
    P2: side lunge
    Lap 3
p1: bear crawl up the ramp
    p2: shoulder taps
    Lap 4
    p1: Full sprint up ramp
    p2: peter parkers

Then we COP’d for a few more chances to see Orionid Meteor shower
    Hello dolly x 20, Scissor dolly x 20, Side crunch x 20/right, Side crunch x 20/left

Then downstairs to the bench alley.
Here we did Dips x 20, Power Ups x 20 right, Power Ups x 20 left

Then we mosey’d back to the flag for the COT.
Tclaps to Liberace who splashed merlot last workout but was back and ready to get to work on Friday.

Great weather – sorry we only got one meteor sighting but tclaps to Gspot for confirming my spotting!

  • An improv Q – Work those hips

It is supposedly FALL but you can’t tell from the heat.

PAX assembled in front of the park…away from the shovel flag per typical Friday at Wolfpack Mtn.

Cavalier had the Q but I hadn’t heard from him in a few days so I suspected I might have to do an improv Q. Where you at Cavalier?

Quick mosey over to the Tulane sign. At Tulane we did SSH x 20, Mtn Climbers x 20, Peter Parkers x 20, and Imperial Walker Squats x20
Then we did a quick mosey to the alley of benches.
At the alley – we did:
    Inclined Merks x 10
    Powerups – left x 20
    Slow Count Dips x 20
    Powerups – right x 20
Slow Count decline merks x 15
Bulgarian split lunge left x 20
    declined parker peters x 20
bulgarian split lunge merks x 20

Then we mosey’d up the Stairs for a COP on top of Wolfpack Mtn
At the top we did a COP for the hips
    Crazy Legs x 20
    Hip Dips left x 20
    Hip dips right x 20
Right/Left Arm reaches x 5 (not good enough – cut)
    Crab walk x 20

Take a LAP on the MTN. Down the stairs, across to the other stairwell on the first floor, up the stairs, and back to our original circle spot
Quick draw gave us some comic relief laying on the ground
    V-ups x 20
    Penguins x 20
Raised arm merks left x 10
Raised arm merks right x 10

    Another lap on the MTN

    LBCs x 20
    Side Crunch left x 20
    Side crunch right x 20
    LBTs x 20

Mosey down the stairs and back to the FLAG.

We had our COT. Prayed for Douille’s father and family. I asked that we be better men and fathers and husbands this weekend.

    Always a pleasure to lead-
    RY

  • North Audubon Mosey

Thankful for a break in the rain and wanting the PAX to remember my VQ I figured we would mix up the standard Wolfpack routine with some more time in the park.  What seemed like a great idea in the waning light the night before became a little dicey as we tripped through the dark fields of  the park in the gloom.  Thankfully all ankles survived.

The Thang:  After the disclaimer we were off with the last of the 17 PAX joining in as we took off for a Mosey down St. Charles and then back in to the park. Wound up near where we started.

    • Warm up:
      • SSH x 25
      • Seal Jack x 25
      • Smurf Jack x 25
    • Burpee Run OYO:  Convenient row of 7 oak tress allowed for increasing sets of burpees from 1-7 with a run/sprint to the next tree
    • Mosey back to the track to the filed of lush grass for COP
      • Merkin ring of fire with each PAX sounding off as we did Merkins.  The goal was one Merkin per sound off which was in fact much harder than the typical plank and wave of Merkins.  Not what the QIC intended but we perserved and knocked out 5 sets of 17 reps.  Whoops.
      • On the 6 for
        • Hello Dolly x 20
        • Real Freddy Mercury x 25.
    • Mosey over to Walnut Street and to St. Charles for BLIMS, high visibilty WTF BLIMS for the passerbys.
      • OYO run down the neutral ground to the cross overs with an exercise at each cross over
        • Burpee x 5
        • Lunges x 10
        • Imperial Walker x 15
        • Merkins x 20
        • Squats x 25
    • Slow Mosey to the Loyola lawn where PAX divided in half
      • One group holding an Al Gore while the other did a Jameis Winston to the feet of the Jesus statue.  Once there they hold an Al Gore and while the other group takes off towards Jesus.  Regroup and repeat the other direction with a Bear Crawl/Al Gore combo.
      • Douille points out I ‘have 11 minutes’ which in my haze didn’t know if that meant 11 in or 11 to go. Thank goodness it was the latter.
    • Mosey to benches in the Loyola quad
      • R leg step ups x 20
      • L leg step ups x20
    • Mosey into the Wolfpack mountain
      • Indian run to the top.  I was thankful I was first in line meaning I only had to sprint once- solid work to the PAX that got to knock out two.  Stairs back to the bottom and Mosey back to the flag.

Nameorama and COT:  The QIC offered his own intention for a handicapped patient of his who died not from her chronic medical issues but from injuries sustained in a house fire.  God bless her and help us remember that God chooses our time and place and we should live each day to its fullest.  Thanks for the opportunity to lead an awesome group of guys.

  • Seek Higher Ground!

WWL tweeted a flash flood warning about 5am with a simple message: Seek Higher Ground!   Nine PAX including one FNG were unfazed by weather but none the less YHC decided to take heed. After a brief disclaimer we headed to the mountain:

    1st COP at the bike rack: SSH x20, MC x20, IW x20, Peter P x20, Hillbillies x20, Parker P x20 & Plank Jacks x15

Up the stairs to the 6th and last (mostly) dry floor for a round of BLIMPS counting 5,10,15, etc.

Right back down the stairs for a 2nd COP at the bike rack: LBCx20, Dolly Upsx20, Putins (Trump’s BFF)x20, Flutter Kicks x15, Dying Cockroach x20

And back up to the 6th for a “quick” round of 11s, Merkins & Squats

Lastly a long minute of plank-o-rama with a 15 second mission impossible finish.

COT in the mountain – count-off, name-o-rama & a short prayer of thanks

    Thought to ponder:

“Impossible is a big word used by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to fight to change it.” – M. Ali

  • Low Slow & Hold

    Pre-Thang

YHC called out by Yankee that only appearances are when Q’ing.  Guess there’s more Splash Q’ing in the future.  The normal flag staking was blocked off due to track repaving in the park.  Heat wasn’t so bad but humidity was right on up there.

    Warm-Up

Mosey around street car tracks and over to Touchdown Jesus for some Jack’n around:

    • COP IC: Seal Jacks x 30, Smurf Jacks x 15, Plank Jacks x 20, On your six jacks (horizontal side straddle hop) x 15, SSH x 30

    The Thang

Mosey to Green Wave pull up bars.  Pair off for circuit training.  Balls to wall right after burpees may not have been the best idea.  YHC nearly passed out going into pull up holds.  Not sure if it was the humidity or the blood rush to the head.

    • Count is 15 burpees, Balls to Wall hold, Pull-Up holds, Elbow Plank hold, Monkey Humps – rinse and repeat with burpee count reduced to 10

Mosey over to benches by the mountain for some slow counts (3 count down, 3 count hold, 3 count up x 15):

    • IC: Squats, Decline Merikans, Dips, Include Merikans, Squats

Slow mosey underneath the mountain for a quick Mary.  Great counts Mulligan, but it didn’t mess with YHC’s cadence.

    • COP IC: LBCs x 30, Box Cutters x 15, Russian Twists x 15

Mosey back towards the flag for some yoga stretching.  That’s right, yoga stretching for all the ladies to see.  Yankee thought the PAX was going to get arrested as we waved all our parts in the air.

    • 15 cadence count on up dog, triangle pose left, triangle pose right, bridge (wife pleasers but hold it up in the air)

Name-O-Rama: 10 men decided to get a little better this AM in Uptown.

Shout Out:  Prayer requests go out to RY and Agassi’s cousin as well as G-Spots sister.  Thanks to the Sky Q for making us better men.  We step into the weekend with gratitude and love for all those around us.
