The Classic Tequila Sunrise Recipe
Yield: 1 cocktail
Glass: Highball or Collins glass
Ingredients
Tequila: 2 oz Blanco (Silver) Tequila (100% agave is recommended for a crisp flavor)
Orange Juice: 4 oz Freshly squeezed orange juice (pulp-free is best for a clean appearance)
Grenadine: ½ oz Grenadine syrup (use a high-quality pomegranate-based syrup for better flavor)
Garnish: 1 Orange slice and 1 Maraschino cherry (stem-on)
Instructions
Prep the Glass: Fill a chilled highball glass with plenty of ice.
Mix Base: Add the tequila and then the orange juice to the glass. Stir gently to combine these two layers.
Create the “Sunrise”: Slowly pour the grenadine down the inside edge of the glass. For a cleaner effect, you can pour it over the back of a bar spoon.
Wait: Do not stir the drink after adding the grenadine. Because it is denser than the juice, it will sink to the bottom naturally, creating the color gradient.
Garnish & Serve: Add an orange slice and a cherry to the rim or top of the drink. Serve immediately.
