5Q’s for 5 Days – from Glitter Balls

The holidays are long gone. They weren’t kind to ol’ GB. I mean I got everything I wanted but I also ate and drank everything in front of me for a month+. It gets that way sometimes.

Staring down, I could barely see my toes, among other sundry, and I decided to go back that old well we all know so… well. But I didn’t simply want to Q Swolefest. I didn’t want to Q JUST The Foundry. No, men, nay, nein, niet.

I wanted to Q… ALL OF THEM.

And so I did. I went to the Q sheet and I put my mark, M-F. Highrise said I was a dumb person because I am running the Louisiana Half Marathon this weekend. He was right. But maybe, he was wrong? Never doubt how good a dumb idea is.

I won’t go into longform detail of all the beatdowns but here’s some highlights:

Swolefest:

Disclaimer, Warmup. Describe the beatdown. 3 rounds of Tabata. 8 exercises. 1 minute 10 seconds on, 20 seconds off.

The Playlist: A kaleidoscope of songs baring tribute and farewell to our beloved Mayor. Everyone enjoyed it, especially Whistlepig.

610 Stomp:

We ran, for 40 minutes.

Foundry:

Disclaimer, Warmup.

Thang: Route 66 LBCs down Roosevelt to Mini Foundry. Mini Foundry, 3 stations (Pull-ups, Dips, timer runs to streetlight for 3 burpees. On return, rotate. Repeat for 3 sets. Returning up Roosevelt we engaged in some crowd work of “Bench, No Bench” for 2 exercises per stop, with Q calling for Burpees OYO in between.

Okwata:

Temp, 41. Wind, 20mph off the lake. Feels like, 36. Highrise, Coxswain and Yours Truly, hopped over the levee and decided on a 45 minute run around the neighborhoods.

We talked about riding in Mardi Gras parades, Mel Brooks movies and solved problems in the world.

Wisner Mountain:

Weak, weary and ready for it to be over.

Mosey to the mountain, BOMBS over and back on the bridge (YHC needed a refresher on exactly what they all were but it felt right) – mosey to Deutsches Haus for a spell then back to flag with some light Mary to end.

Final Thoughts:

It’s never too late to bet on yourself again. We all go through funks, fit and starts, ups and downs. It probably doesn’t take anything as extreme as a week full of Q’s to pick ourselves up but sometimes it does and that’s OK, too. What’s important is to stay present in your mind – about where the positives in your life are, understanding that you can only control what you can – and being able to face the only person you see every single day, yourself.

Special thanks to Jesus Juice and Saban for 4/5 attendance this week, good to see Snooze back twice this week and CONGRATULATIONS to the ONLY HIM that made it to all five beatdowns – YHC, GLITTER BALLS!!!
