7 Pax posted for an Old School Uptowner brought by YHC. A disclaimer was given, followed by a short mosey to the rock pile.

    Warmup

    • IW IC x 15
    • Abe Vigodas IC x 10
    • Grass Grabbers IC x 10
    • Bat wings

Grab the rock and Cusak, aka rifle carry, to open field where YHC has some cones set up for 11’s. There was song and the Pax was filled with joy, until we got to where we were going.

1 x 8 count rock builders on one end, bear crawl 30 yards, 10 x big boi sit-ups, bear crawl back.

After round 4, where 4 x 8 counts and 7 big boi sit-ups were reached, all pax fingers were numb. YHC called an audible and changed to rifle carry in place of bear crawl.

Circle up for rock work – IC

    • Curls x 10
    • Rows x 10
    • Elf on the shelf – left x 10
    • Flutter kicks x 10

Return the rocks and mosey back to the flag.

    • The temperature yesterday and today looked the same, but the frost suggested it was far worse today.
    • North Dakota Finger Freeze was a hit – a hit to the fingers. YHC may have been presented the finger if the PAX had any feeling left in theirs. Some of the Mumblechatter was rather vulgar.
    • Coffeteria was great, making the beat down worthwhile.

Thanks for posting with me today, and for allowing me to be a part of such a great organization.

  • Lakeview vs. Pontiff II

Three months ago the men of Lakeview, unannounced and uninvited, strolled into Pontiff on the day of the Wally Run and threw down the challenge to the men of Pontiff for an Ultimate Frisbee battle. Pontiff never stood a chance as Lakeview mopped the floor with a commanding win.

Thus began a new tradition, the Lakeview vs. Pontiff Ultimate Frisbee War. Lakeview may have won battle one, but the war was far from over.

28 men came out for the competition on a cold December morning with 26 men playing for three months of bragging rights. Pontiff playing in Miyagi Do whites and Lakeview playing in Cobra Kai blacks. 13 vs. 13 Ultimate Frisbee – no rematch has been anticipated so highly since Rocky and Creed.

The Pax ran 2 laps around Pontiff Park (next match there will be some sort of penalty for the team with the fewest number of competitors to complete the 2 laps). Then we split for a standard game of F3 Ultimate. 5 merkins for each turnover. 10 merkins for giving up a touchdown.

Team Pontiff came out with bang like Daniel kicking Johnny in the face by scoring the first touchdown in moments as YHC caught one in the end zone and even completed a second pass to appease the doubts of team Lakeview, and Pontiff was off to the races.

Thanks to the quality play of Scantron and Two Yutes scoring strikes down the field – team Pontiff won in a blow out – 8-3.

The war is now tied 1-1. The next match comes in March.

  • Taking out some frustration after a Saints loss

After yesterday’s terrible Saints game, I had to work out some frustration with the coaches’ gameplan as well as the execution in an awful loss to the Eagles. With that said, and the sharp change in weather overnight, it would make for a challenging morning. 9 PAX gathered outside LCM, including Jingle Vader from the far away land of Uptown.

    Warm up:

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • Windmills x 10 IC
    • Grassgrabbers x 15 IC
    • Arm circles x 10 fwd/rev each IC
    • Self love x 15 IC
    • Hillbillies x 20 IC

    Tha Thang #1:

What better way to start a block inspired, no run beatdown than with some Flora 1,2,3. PAX partners up and all reps are divided evenly

    • 100 Merkins with feet on block total. PAX #1 performs 10 Merkins while PAX #2 holds plank. Alternate every 10 reps
    • 200 LBCs with block. PAX #1 performs 20 LBCs with block while PAX #2 holds block overhead and legs in air. Alternate every 20 reps.
    • 300 Goblet squats. PAX #1 performs 30 squats while PAX #2 holds Al Gore position with block. Alternate every 30 reps.

    Tha Thang #2:

At this point it was time to move on to The Gross. 12 exercises of 12 reps (mostly done in 4-count cadence) each. I divided up the exercises into 4 upper body, 4 lower body, and 4 core exercises.

    • Chest press with block while holding bridge position
    • Goblet squats
    • Standing oblique crunches with block
    • Walleyes (front raises with block)
    • Single leg bridges with foot on block
    • Flutter kicks while holding block overhead
    • Curls
    • Lunges with twist while holding block
    • LBCs with block
    • Overhead triceps extension with block
    • Calf raises while standing on block
    • Box cutters while holding block overhead

    Tha Thang #3:

Walk over with your block to the nearby parking lot for a modified Quarter Pounder. PAX will walk across parking lot while rifle carrying block overhead and perform stated reps at each end of the parking lot.

    • Round 1: 25 Merkins
    • Round 2: 50 Goblet squats
    • Round 3: 75 Mountain climbers (1 is 1)
    • Round 4: 100 reps of core exercise of your choosing

Walk back to our normal exercise area with block and circle up. Countoff, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and socially distanced COT. Hopefully everyone was as fatigued by the end of the beatdown as I was.

  • Captain Seamus “Dirty” MacDeuce

    Captain Seamus “Dirty” MacDeuce

The site Q graciously added YHC’s name to the Q sheet for an AO outside of his Parish and that he also seldom visits. However, the name was on the Q sheet and Q he must. YHC may have also forgotten about his scheduled Q until this morning at approximately 0500. The good news is that the Legendary Captain Seamus MacDeuce would provide.

What do we really know about Capt Seamus “Dirty” MacDeuce. Born in Meade County, Ireland in 1786, MacDeuce would stow away on a ship headed for the United States at the age of 6. The crew named him “Dirty” as a result of finding him in the cargo hold among the manure. As we know from the published BB of 9/27/2020, “Do Not Do Murder Bunnies on Pavement”, he became a deckhand at the age of 12. It was then that he learned the navigation of the mouth of the Mississippi. Other than his wife, Latrina Bacardi MacDuece, and 12 children; MacDeuce had two loves; physical fitness and rum. Dirty would indulge in the brown bottles till and through nightfall; and then arise at 0530 to led his men for morning PT everyday. The routine was very standard; 12 glasses of rum, 12 exercises and 12 reps of each. Believing that strength without endurance showed weakness; he forced his men to run laps around the ship. While his dedication to physical prowess is how he is best remembered by the HIMs of F3; his heroics during the War of 1812 is how he best served. That, however, is another story for another day.

    W/U

    • SSH x 20
    • IW x 10

The Thang – grab a rock and head to the track for the Dirty MacDeuce: 12 exercises, 4 sets of 3 (arms, legs, core), 12 Reps IC, lap around the track

    • Set 1 – Curls, Squats, Flutter Kicks
    • Set 2 – Overhead press, Lunges, Big Boy Sit Ups
    • Set 3 – Triceps Curls, Side Lunge, Rows
    • Set 4 – Front Lifts, Rocky Balboas, Russian Twist

Return your rock and mosey back to the flag for some stretching.

Monday is typically not on my schedule of Beatdowns and neither is Rock City or Swollfest or any coupon/rock based workout. However, I greatly enjoyed getting out there and being pushed outside of my typical routine. Thank you site Q for signing me up, and thank you for the opportunity to lead.

  • Back to Basics at the Foundry

Today was back to basics with a traditional Foundry workout with circuits and pull-ups. 15 men braved the cool December air. We even had a @Rudy sighting in City Park on a Wednesday. The usual disclaimer and off we go.

We moseyed to the Childrens Museum for the warm-up COP:

    • SSH x 20 IC, IW x 20 IC, Grass-Grabbers x 10 IC, Windmills x 10 IC, Arm Circles 10 Forward 10 Backward IC, Mountain Climbers x 20 IC

Mosey to the front of NOCM:

    • 8-count body builders x 10 IC (for Catfish)
    • Left leg step-ups x 20 IC
    • Dips x 20 IC
    • Right leg step-ups x 20 IC
    • Dips x 20 IC

The we moseyed to the Foundry for some circuits: 5 groups of 3, rinse and repeat for 3 rounds total.

    • The count was: run to the track, 5 burpees, and back
    • Rows
    • Lunges
    • Pull-ups
    • Derkins

We finished with a mosey to the City Park track, stopping at each light post for 10 squats, and a 200 meter sprint at the track. Back to the flag for count-off, name-o-rama, intentions, and a prayer. Was a nice cool morning for a beat down. As @Belloq eloquently stated, thoughts and prayers during this stressful time of year to missing loved ones due to Covid, travel, work, and military deployment. Thank you for letting me lead.

  • Look Mom! I’m Three!

YHC turned 3 in F3 years on November 11th, but he forgot of this momentous day last month. Having his memory jogged a few days, his next Q at Whoppie on December 2nd was set as the day to celebrate. And there is no better way to celebrate one’s third anniversary with F3 than a workout fit for a three year old.

    Warm-Up

    SSH – 33

    Peter Parkers – 20

    Imperial Walkers – 20

    Annies – 20

    Batwings – 60 arm circles

    Smurf jacks – 20

    The Thang

Diego – the Pax moseyed a distance from the flag for a new Diego themed workout. The Pax needed to travel and for Diego’s animal rescue. On the way, the pax needed to travel to the flag by blending in with the animals in the area. Whatever animal name shouted out by the Q would be the exercise the Pax would need to do as they traveled to the flag. The Q alternated between calling out bear crawls, duck walk, alligator crawl, and crab walk.

Dora – standard Dora with 100 burpees, 200 LBCs, and 300 jump squats as one’s partner ran up and over the levee while the other knocked out the exercises

    The End

    The Alabama Motivator

Run – the Pax ran to the end of the bridge for a prayer of praise to the Creator for the beauty of His creation

Run – the Pax ran back to the flag for the Count-Off and Name-O-Rama

It’s been an incredible three years of F3 with the best friendships a man could ask for, physical testing like I never expected to be able to endure, strength for life’s journey outside of F3, and the endurance to push through pain and injury. Thank you men for three years!

  • Playing the hits

After some back and forth as to who would Q The Foundry today, I was summoned by the unwritten F3 by-law that if a Q is unable to attend then I will Q. I think I may need a lawyer for this but Kuch is the one who wrote said by-law so it’s probably pretty air tight. Anyway 8 PAX joined me in the damp cold morning. Since this was a last minute Q I opted to do some research and select some routines from previous beatdowns that I had Q’ed.

    Warm up:

Mosey around the traffic circle at the end of Roosevelt Mall and stop in the middle of the intersection outside the entrance to the practice track. Circle up.

    • SSH x 20 IC
    • Windmills x 10 IC
    • Grassgrabbers x 15 IC
    • Self love x 15 IC
    • Arm circles fwd/rev x 10 IC each
    • Hillbillies x 15 IC

    Tha Thang #1:

I opted for a socially distanced Route 66. While in our circle from warm up 1 PAX would run to a bench on either side of the mall. After performing 1 derkin they would yell go to the next PAX and move on to the next bench for 2 derkins, and so on increasing reps with each bench until they have reached the end of the mall. While waiting their turn PAX would hold Al Gore. Once completed derkins at all benches PAX would hold Al Gore until the 6 had completed all rounds.

    Tha Thang #2:

Mosey to the back of NOMA where we would split into 3 groups of 3 PAX for Triple Check. In each group PAX #1 held the People’s Chair and PAX #2 held a plank while PAX #3 ran around NOMA. Once PAX #3 completed the loop rotate positions until each PAX had performed all 3 stations. 3 rounds of this was performed by all 3 groups.

    Tha Thang #3:

PAX was lined up and spaced out along the curb in the back of NOMA for Dominoes. Hold L side plank and PAX on the far end would perform 10 merkins. Once he has completed 5 merkins he would call it out and the next PAX would start his merkins. Once 10 merkins were completed by each PAX they would rotate to holding a R side plank until all PAX have completed merkins. After a 20 sec rest break a second round was performed in reverse order beginning with R side plank.

    Tha Thang #4:

Mosey back to the end of Roosevelt Mall where we would perform another socially distanced Route 66 back to the flag. This time step ups (2 is 1) were the exercise of choice and each PAX would hold a plank until it was their turn to begin. Reps were performed in a descending count. Unfortunately I overshot it and was unable to complete all rounds in time. Thankfully PAX was able to begin some Mary while waiting on me to return to the flag at 6:17.

Count off, Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and COT. Thanks again for the chance to lead.
