  • Let’s MOSEY

With no World Cup Soccer themes or any other ideas for a “LOVE FEST Beatdown” dancing in my mind, YHC figured it would be a good time to work off some of those holiday calories that invariably crop up at this time of year.  So, with a big crowd (T-Claps guys) on the day before Christmas Adam, here’s more or less how it went down:

To get the blood flowing, we did a brief round of SSH, HK, and BK to warm up.  all IC x 15.

Mosey Eastward, Circle up for some harder hitting exercises before the main course.  Smurf Jacks IC x 20, Monkey Humpers IC x 20, Shooter’s Burpos OYO x 10.

Now it was time to MOSEY again, however, this time we went westward.  It was back to the corner of Marigny and Lakeshore Dr for some RACES…(Yes, Bushwacker, you heard that correctly).  YHC divided the PAX into two random groups, and each group took turns racing around the first block of Marigny St (around the circle).  While one group was running, the other group did a continuous exercise.  Rinse and repeat x 3.  The exercises were T-Merkins, Squats, Shoulder Taps.  After some pretty intense running, it was time to MOSEY again…this time we went Eastward, all the way to the PULL UP BARS beyond the outfield fence at Harbor Field.  And that distance may have been a little farther than YHC had remembered, as the PAX thinned to a barely connected group.  Once the PAX re-assembled, it was time for some pullups.  As each man did a set of up-to 5 pull ups (apologies to Zoolander and The Hammer, both of whom can clearly can pop out around 20), the remaining PAX did and exercise.  First it was Imperial Walker Squats, then it was Mack Taraji’s, and last it was, Flutter Kicks.  After 3 rounds, and some really cold hands, we MOSEYED back to the flag for a brief set of Mary.  COT, and YHC prayed us out.  Welcome to our FNG, One Eye.  Thanks for letting me take the lead today and pushing me to greater heights!

Barely Legal, Bolt, Bubba, Bushwacker, Coconuts, Garfield, Jose Mourinho, Mathlete, Maverick, One Eye (FNG), Shooter, Toto, The Hammer, THE Manny, Tanked Up!, Zoolander

  • Turbo Charged

Many thanks to Turbo Tax for rallying the PAX to post this morning for a soggy beatdown at Grandmas House. YHC was grateful and honored to see some old friends and meet some new ones.  Anyway – to the beatdown – the good Lord brought the rain, but spared us the Thunder…. thankfully, AC/DC was there to fill the gap…

    Warmarama

SSHs through Thunderstruck, with a Burpee each time we hear “thunder!”

Thanks to Bushwacker for reminding us how blessed we are.  Grateful for the opportunity to lead.  Great seeing folks this morning.

    Happy Thanksgiving

  • Perfect Conditions

Cold wet and windy morning on the Mandeville Lakefront.  Perfect conditions to sharpen some iron.

Warmup of Imperial Walkers, Seal Jacks, Toe Touches, Lunges, SSHs and Windmills, all IC and 20x except for the Windmills at 10x.

Mosey Westward to the first COP, a rotisserie of sorts with three rounds on the wet ground.  Round one:  T hand release merkins, right side hip ups, left side hip ups, scuba Steves.  Round two:  shoulder taps, right side straight leg jackknives, left side straight leg jackknives, alternating Supermans.  Round three:  slow count merkins, right side Jane Fondas, left side Jane Fondas, and vintage Supermans. All IC and 10x each exercise.

Mosey further Westward to partner up and pick up some coupons.  10 minutes of every minute on the minute, rotating between coupon 10 thrusters and 20 donkey kicks with your partner.  50x thrusters and 100x donkey kicks total.

Then each team completed 50 coupon manmakers and 100 coupon swings, one partner putting in reps while the other ran 50 yards out and back to relieve his partner.

Last dance with your partner:  back to back Al Gore for a minute, then twisting coupon exchanges 1 minute each direction.  Waterpik, what were you doing over there by yourself?

Mosey Eastward towards the shovel flag for some sprint training.  Four cones spaced about 10 yards apart.  Accelerate from cone 1 to cone 2, float (maintain speed) from cone 2 to cone 3, and then accelerate from cone 3 to cone 4.  Recovery walk back to cone 1 to repeat; five total rounds.

Final mosey back to the shovel flag.  100 shoulder taps IC to wrap up the beat down.

Countorama, nameorama, Pledge of Allegiance in honor of Veterans Day, and Butt Splice prayed us out.

Thanks for letting me lead guys.  Always a privilege and an honor.  And great seeing so many of you post for the pre-thang foreplay run.  Let’s keep working towards Krazy Ivan dominance.  Recover quickly, Jose.

  • If you don’t blast it, it didn’t happen…

    There wee

2 weeks of beat downs at G-ma’s House the past 2 weeks, YHC cued both of these, but failed to inform the pax.

Last Tuesday, (7/24) chewy and bubba met for some jumping of the rope, 1/4 runs, and various exercises of the single leg persuasion.

this past tuesday (7/31) chewy and bushwacker met for some more jumping of the rope, manmaker merkins, and Rower sit ups (finishing off july’s ISI challenge) while chief sparkles climbed stairs in prep for the 9/11 memorial climb.

Thanks for the small yet faithful pax, that still make Tuesday mornings happen.

Yhc is hoping things will pick back up on Tuesdays once Steve is relocated and EiEi comes out of hiding.

    Sorry for the late blasts!

  • The Thrillabon in the Audubon

Being an F3 Nation member for only 10 months (last race I was nothin but a gleam in a Hawg’s eye), the Gnarly Nutria was the stuff of legend. A back and forth sporting event like the world has not witnessed since Ali vs. Frazier. Two heavyweights going toe to toe for 5.4 miles with the Uptowners dominating Gnarly Nutria I and The World squeaking by with a narrow victory in Gnarly Nutria II.

This year The World looked to overwhelm the smug Uptowners with numbers, and we have been recruiting. I was even dreaming of running the first race of my life but fell to the wayside with a calf injury on Friday. Although The World would now be missing their best runner, they still persevered and began the race with a distinct advantage in numbers.

Following an epic lightning storm, the race began at 9:10pm. Our first finishers were a family group, and hat’s off to Sandbar who brought two of his 2.0s who finished the first lap in solid time.

I knew the Uptowners were going to be in trouble when the first runners to not complete all three laps were Uptowners. Then the top two finishers of all three laps were both from the World and the landslide began. Like an over-the-hill Frazier against Ali, the Uptowners were no match for The World in Gnarly Nutria III.

The final score was 446 The World and 354 Uptowners. The World is so fast, we turned off the lights in our bedrooms when we got home last night and we were in bed before the room was dark.

We welcomed 4 FNGs into our numbers in the largest sweaty ball of man I have ever seen. I got to hand it to the runners, the names for our new members were great. We welcome Tubbs, Tramp Stamp, Right Cheek and his brother Left Cheek to F3. May we forget your real names and always refer to you by your F3 names in public.

Here are your Gnarly Nutria top finishers:

    1. Smooth – The World

    2. Turbo Tax – The World

    3. Pony Boy – Uptowner

    4. El Guapo – The World

    5. Mulligan – Uptowner

    6. End Time – The World

    7. YSR – Uptowner

    8. Swampcock – Uptowner

    9. Cavalier – Uptowner

    10. Mahatma-Ice – The World

    11. Right Cheek – The World

    12. Nip/Tuck – Uptowner

    13. Jadaveon – Uptowner

    14. Cowbell – The World

    15. Hawgcycle – The World

    16. Thighs – The World

    17. Freedo – Uptowner

    18. Cornbread – The World

    19. El Wire – Uptowner

    20. Mariah – Uptowner

    21. Rudy – The World

    22. Rocket – The World

    23. Peppa – Uptowner

    24. Saban – Uptowner

    25. Tubba – The World

    26. Tramp stamp – The World

    27. Bubba – The World

    28. Shorty – The World

    29. Brownbag – Uptowner

    30. Landing Strip – Uptowner

Left cheek, Bad Moon, Two Yutes, Shooter, Bushwacker, Einstein, 86, Pi, Walleye, King Kong, Triple Shift, Reluctant Yankee, and Roots fell just outside the top 30 in this order. I couldn’t keep up with the names after Roots. Congrats to all who finished and all who completed 1 or 2 laps. Thank you for helping us all be better men as we do stupid, pointless things like run for no reason in the middle of a lightning storm while chased by Jaguars.

I’m inviting you to our next AO at “the Boxing Match” sculpture in Kenner’s Rivertown. The first Wednesday of September will be the launch of the F3 NOLA “Fight Club.”

Your Humble Scorekeeper (I don’t plan on doing this next year, so someone else better get hurt right before the race in 2019),

  • Testing Masculinity at the Gipper

Arrived to the Gipper with mild 70s and a hint of fog. This Gloom certainly lacked previous post of suffocating humidity, which helps with perspiration even when the beatdown may not start as intense and require a sweat towel of sorts. To keep the beatdown as masculine as one may, minus the chatter of “Zoolander” and ballerina spins performed by Maverick during the Qs exercises. The beatdown would soon dampen the chatter and there would be no more ballerina turning when all was said and done.

    warmup

    20 IC Imperial walkers

    10 IC Good mornings

    20 IC Mountain climbers

    10 IC Wind mills

    20 IC Butt kicks

    thang

Moseyed to the Taj around the flag pole for the “San Antonio Shuffle” which consists of left/right leg lunge, into a Burpee and wrapped up with a Plank jack. We separated into 2 teams and one team held Al Gores while team two completed the shuffle. This is where we were gifted with the talents of Maverick and the Ballerina swirl. R/R till each PAX reached 10 total. Short Moseyed to the top of the parking garage for the completion of the Qs previous deck of death at another post. With half the deck remaining the suits went this way. ♥  SSH, ♠ Merkins, ♣ Flutter kicks and ♦ Jump squats. With cards representing face value and the lone Joker left equaling 25 with the exercise chosen by the man who flipped it at which Einstein calls Burpees. Huh? Exercises are 🙄 sir and that was not an option, so with reluctance he calls the next best to count toward the ISI of this month the Merkin.. Once we completed the deck Moseyed to the back side of the courthouse for another workout grabbed from the Lexicon “Stairway to Seven” which is 1 Burpee 1 Incline Merkin up the stairs 1 squat and backdown R/R till everyone completes to 7. Moseyed to the front of the courthouse and split back into teams. Team 1 did sleeping Hillibilles while team 2 journeyed up the steps for 10 Merkins. Teams swapped positions till each PAX did left/right side then we changed to E2Ks and ended with Peter Parker’s. Total in all was 51 additional Merkins rounding out the ISI counters at 200 on the morning. Moseyed back to the flag for count off, announcements and COT.. Turbo mentioned the CSAUP of the Narley approaching July 19th and Bubba prayed us out.. Welcome to the Gipper Barely legal, glad to see you post..

Thank you Brothers for the lead!!

    ✌🏻 Till the next Gloom!!

  • Dice of Doom’s Hard Opening and The Battle Old Mandeville

With the winds died down and the hail unscathingly passing us by, it seemed like a good morning to bring out the Dice of Doom for and official hard opening. 12 PAX made sufficient numbers for a team battle of epic proportions.

    WARM UP

    each x20 IC:

    Toe Touches

    Windmills

    Imperial Walkers

    THANG-A-LANG

Ok, so it went down like this – team 1 rolls the dice and then attempts to answer a trivia question for a point. While they perform the resulting exercise, team 2 planked. After each team had a chance to be “plank-in-waiting”, they each took a round to hold and Al Gore instead… and so on and so forth. The team with the most points at the conclusion won the right to casually watch the losing team do an exercise of team 1’s choice to whatever rep count team 2 rolled.

Adding a lil lagniappe to this beat down, the PAX started at the flag and mosied down the lakefront to Marigny for the next roll, then up Marigny 1 block for the next, east 1 block, back south the the lakefront, and finally east to the playground/splash pad for the final roll.

Considering A. this was an idea that YHC was conducting semi-on the fly and B. YHC was also doing all of the exercises along with both teams, the exact numbers and order are a little jumbled in my Wackie mind. However, there were a superlative amount of jump squats, some putins, a WILD Q set of freak nasties, a sparse sampling of merkins, and a round of 50 side straddle hops.

QIC felt that the PAX was enjoying themselves a little too much, as shown by the over-abundance of mumble chatter. Thusly, the whoopin stepped up a notch with and abbreviated version of the B.I.T.E.M.E. (inspred by B.O.M.B.S.) better recognized as B.I.M. – 50 burpees, 100 iron hulks, and 150 moroccan nightclubs. That changed the PAX’s tune, or at least winded them enough to give their gums a little respite.

Broken back into team 1 and 2, the indian run back home commenced. Big props and T claps to Moby who kept moving at his best pace after pre-thanin’ it and recently returning full time from IR. Double respect was duly shown by a majority of the PAX circling back to join Shooter in rolling in with the great White Whale.

    MARY

    All x20 IC:

    LBCs

    Flutter Kicks

    Freddie Mercury’s

And finally, with a Dice of Doom trivia tie hanging over the PAX like spring-time storm clouds darker than 50 shades of gray (absolutely not erotic!), there was a final showdown still to be played out. Steve representing team1 stood eye to eye – nay, brow to brow with Ei of team 2, as these 2 titans of F3 lore faced off, each with a stare of intense animosity and rivalry that would have slain a fire-breathing dragon! With fists clenched, sinewy muscles taught, and lightening flashing in both of their eyes, their respective teams chomping at the bit with flared nostrils of wild stallions, QIC handed the numbered die to Steve to roll like a steel gauntlet slapping with indignation the faces of each of the battle-worn members of team 2. And what a blow! 50 – there would be no topping it, only another roll of 50 would agonizingly drag this battle out. Alas, it was not to be, for the brave and venerable Ei’s roll, as though time was moving at a near stand-still…..came up a 20. With the sweet taste of victory like honey on their lips, team 1 doled out the harshest penalty to their vanquished foes, BURPEES! As team 2 collapsed to the earth with the weight of the world on their backs to serve their sentence, a ray of sunny good will began to shine when team 1, under no obligation to do so, dropped to salute their worthy foes with planking of of superiorly perfected form.

Ok it wasn’t EXACTLY like that, but more or less.

COT, Bubba prayed us out with solemn vigor, and The sharp-dressed man himself, Waterpik pick up the forth-coming coffee. Many thanks to you both, and to all of the PAX who put forth a mighty effort in the wake of my humble lead!

PS – I’d also like to give special T Claps to the stellar beard that Turbo picked up in Colorado! Clean up the edges a little and you may look like a respectable lawyer of some sort.

  • Running In Circles

There were a couple of noteworthy things at this morning’s beatdown: Bubba’s victorious return after a lengthy F3 hiatus, Moby’s first completed workout since suffering an ankle injury, and Maverick’s remarkably prompt arrival at the Gipper!  T-claps to all these men for stepping it up.

So… after a month of running stagnation, YHC was finally in a running mood this morning.  Most of the thang today therefore involved… you guessed it, running.

Warm-up: Good Mornings, Toe Touches, Windmills, 15x IC.  SSHs, Seal Jacks, and High Knees, 25x IC.

The Thang: First, off to the Taj for a new partner routine: PAX performs flutter kicks while two men run the perimeter of the Taj in opposite directions.  Once they meet on the other side, they knock out 5 burpees and then return along the same path.  Next pair up, and so on, until the entire PAX has completed the run.  Followed up with the same drill but mountain climbers replaced flutter kicks, and lastly, jump squats.

Mosey to the grass in front of the parking garage for a quick set of Catalina Wine Mixers, 15x IC (at an odd 6-count that miraculously went over smoothly).  The name may be hoity toity, but the exercise itself is straight grunt work.  Then up to the 2nd floor to start another partner drill: P1 begins lunge walking up the ramp, while P2 runs past him to do a loop – up, around, and back down the stairs to catch P1 and switcheroo.  Then bear crawls, then broad jumps.

Lastly, before returning to the flag: burpee suicides.  Sprint to mid-parking lot and back, 5 burpees.  Full length and back, 5 burpees.  This one was inspired by Grundy’s looooong PFT sprint, which I think I can safely say kicked everyone’s ass last Saturday (except Turbo, of course).

Back safely at the flag, there was just enough time to do Jane Fonda’s, 20x IC each leg.

Countdown, nameorama, and Moby prayed us out.  As always, thank you men for the opportunity to lead and get stronger with you.
