  • Monday Mayhem – the 11th hour of 49

My plan is to never give in to a number so although on my last day this side of 50 I won’t blame age on forgetting I had the Q…..must have been the foggy brain left over from the LSU tailgating this weekend.  That said I’m glad that I checked the Q list driving in this morning which at least gave a few minutes to come up with something that resembled a beat down.

After a quick disclaimer, 22 men strong we left the gated bullpen and head towards open fields near the rock pile.

    Warm Up – in Cadence

    SSH – 26

    Side Lunges  – 10

    Peter Parkers – 20

Mnt Climbers 10 slow and 10 fast

    Wind Mills x 10

Peter Parkers Oh wait Parker Peters x 20

Go grab a rock……head to the hill, I’ll come up with something.  Switched to the Shelter….the aroma was way to inviting not to add it to our workout challenge!

3 rounds of Tabata 30 sec on with 20 secs rest ONE minute reset between rounds.  At some point during this fun our FNG – now known as Seabiscuit had to much of the rock/smell combination and took a breather –

    Rnd 1

Mnt Climbers (I think we already did these during warm up…..here you go that age thing creeping in)

    Overhead triceps press

    Squat with OH Press

    Curls

    Lunges

    Rnd 2

    Box Jumps

    OH Triceps

    Squat with OH Press

    BO Rows

    Lunges

    Rnd 3

Switch Leg step up (with extension)

    OH Triceps

    Squat with OH Press

    Curls

    Lunges

NOW on to EMOS – a little extra breather will Q fiddled with timer APP

    10 minutes of “Work”

    25 BO Rows

5 Man Makers – Burpees with rock jump at the end

    Lateral Raises x 15

    OH Press x 20

Wall  Squat Sit – 10 reps with a 2 second pause in the sitting position

Rinse and Repeat – Exception – adding reps

    30 BO Rows

    10 Man Makers

    20 Lateral Raises

    25 OH Press

    Wall Squat Sit – Same

Head back to the pile to return rocks – NOTE to those that were running back with Pebbles in hand; challenge yourself and grab a ROCK next time out.

PAX assumed a plank position while waiting for all to return; Q while yelling out some encouragement (as would expect) got some chatter for not “fully” participating?!

Upon all rocks being returned – there was little time for Mary:

1:30 of plank – rotating contact points

Head back to flag…..my only regret of the morning; not attempting to accept the challenge Cowbell threw out in his sprint; thanks for the push as that will drive me for a while!

    COT

FNG – Q was being pressed at the end to tie his F3 name brief break during the Tabata but his commitment to step back in and finish with the PAX definitely earned respect that is reflecting of the name bestowed (I can’t take credit for it but Q in this case gets the final word).  Welcome Seabiscuit!

F3 2.0 partner workout – Oct 28th 7:30 Brees sandbox – more to come I’m sure via other F3 announcements.

Special intentions – especially for those in Florida – Thumper is part of a group coordinating some relief effort – please reach out to him with donations as well as the potential to be part of the physical on hand support.

God Bless Brothers – we are held accountable to lead!

  • Winter Is Coming to Okwata!

Okwata was angry, and it rose up beyond its borders to claim the space where F3 normally gathered. YHC indicated the Shovel Flag would be relocated to the corner of Canal and Lakeshore Drive, which brought on much mumblechatter through the Group Me feed. With a map supplied from Heisenberg, 12 men, including one FNG, showed up to get stronger while enjoying the cooler weather and lower humidity. The clock struck 0530, a disclaimer was given, and mosey to a dry track of space for the warm up

Welcome Seawall! T-Claps to Heisenberg for the EH. The cooler weather brought on the comment that “Winter is Coming.” (As a GoT Fan, I had to capture it) This is true, and the weather felt great! It is hard to believe that only a few hours drive to our east was an area suffering from a powerful hurricane. Keep those suffering in your thoughts and prayers, and don’t let your guard down yet, as hurricane season is still upon us.

Thanks for posting with me today!

  • 610 Stomp #162 – Run!

Late Monday, a request for a 610 Stomp Q went unanswered, so YHC committed to taking it, which would also make sure I got my hind end out there! RY mentioned that we might have an exchange student posting Down Range, but the late night temptations of New Orleans probably contributed to the Fartsack. Regardless the reason, no visitor today. YHC arrived to the AO with three minutes to spare and 5 other usual suspects of F3 looking lost in the gloom. With two shovel flags planted and a working streetlight, YHC gave the minimal version of the disclaimer, and said to be back at 0610. We ran……
Smooth, Rudy, Cowbell, and El Guapo took off way ahead as expected. Thankfully Heisenberg was there to keep YHC company. Not that we were slow. 4.2 miles in 38 minutes, equivalent to a 9:04 pace, is nothing to sneeze at! That sub-9:00 pace is right around the corner!!

    Mary
    Flutter kicks IC x 20
    Hello Dolly IC x 20
    Tin Snips IC x 15
    LBC’s IC x 30
    Crunchy Frogs IC x 10

Seal the deal with 10 Burpees OYO!

    COT

Count-off, Name-O-Rama, Announcements (Convergence the 13th), Intentions, and closed with a prayer.

    NMM
We somehow brought our numbers from 6 to 7 at the COT. Hawgcycle rode his bike to the Stomp, but it was apparent his ETA was a little off. Regardless, he got some good miles in, and still rode his bike home! Well done!!!
There are lots of opportunities to Q the Stomp. Feel free to change things up, or keep it traditional. Step up and Lead! Remember, leading a workout is how you give back to F3!

  • I guess Autumn is here…maybe?

YHC was greeted by downright cool temps and a nice breeze when he pulled up to the Flag.  Can Autumn finally be here? Unfortunately, the weather was back to hot and humid by the end of the Beatdown.  Maybe next week.   So, it’s been a few weeks since YHC has been able to join his F3 brothers at the Mothership.  Why not have YHC’s Mothership VQ for YHC’s triumphant return?  Let’s go!  With a short disclaimer we were off.

Circle up for count-off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions and prayer.

    Thanks for letting me lead!

  • Summer Sunrise

7 seasoned PAX arrived in the gloom to welcome the day at the best AO in town.  The humidity remains brutal – but YHC continues to hold out hope for the elusive Cold Front which is always allegedly right around the corner.

But not today.  Today is humidity and sweat.  So lets get started…

Mosey to the swamplands in front of the fountain for warmup.

    • SSH x25
    • IW x25
    • PP x25
    • MC x25
    • PP x25

Head to the benches in front of the fountain for The Conveyor.  7 PAX, so 6 stations:

    • LBCs
    • Box Jumps
    • Dips
    • Merkins
    • Step Ups
    • More Dips

1 PAX at each station.  The 7th PAX runs the circuit around the fountain and takes the place of the LBC PAX.  LBC moves on to take over Box Jump.  And so on….  Keep  exercising at your station until your replacement gets there!

The last Dip PAX gets tapped out and runs around to take on the LBC spot.  Repeat until everyone has hit all of the stations.

Mosey over to the leveee for Stairway to Seven (modified from the Lexicon to fit our purposes)

    • 1 Burpee
    • Up to the top for 1 Squat Jump
    • Down to the other side bottom for 1 Squat Jump
    • Back up for 1 more Squat Jump
    • Back down to where you started and plank for the 6.  YHC notices that “plank for the 6” too often gets interpreted as “rest when you finish and wait”.  So he started pushing the PAX to PLANK.  No rest until everyone finishes.

    Repeat with 2x, then 3x, 4x, 5x (take a break, we’re halfway there…), then 6x and 7x.

Mosey to the House of Pain.  Partner up

    • Bear Crawl up the Levee, 5 burpees, run down (the timer)
    • Pull Ups – goal of 10x per partner (spot as needed)
    • LBCs
    • Dips

6:09 – time to head back for 6MOM at the flag.  25x of LBC, FK, Cockroach, HD.

Circle up for Name-o-Rama, Announcements (Convergence!) and Intentions.  YHC in particular asks for PAX to offer a prayer for his Father, Father-in-Law and Sister who are all facing health challenges right now.  Its been a tough month helping each of them get situated and prepared to face whatever comes next.  But with Sky Q’s guidance and grace, we will all be given the strength to face what He has in store for us.  Thanks to all of the PAX for the prayers, kind words, and support.

  • Leave No Man Behind

    Pre-Thang

The night before, YHC attended Martini Madness and had to behave himself by not indulging in every kind of vodka available.  Thank goodness that event ended at 11 p.m.  YHC woke up at 5:00 a.m. because he was excited to Q his first Mothership.  YHC got to the AO early around 6:10 am. and saw FracSac jump roping for the Sept. ISI Challenge.  He was at it!!!  YHC greeted him with a good morning and went off to set up some cones at the Great Lawn.  At 6:30, YHC gave his standard disclaimer and off the 15 PAX.

    Warm-ups

Moseyed to the Great Lawn and did the following in cadence:

    SSH x 20

    Forward Arm Circles x 10

    Backward Arm Circles x 10

    Hill Billies x 20

    MC x 20

After the warm-ups, Tool and Da Parish went off to the Grandmothership with a low impact workout while the remaining PAX partnered up for the first exercise at the Great Lawn.  For the rest of the day, the PAX would have the same partner.  Some mumble chatter from Rudy about having Cowbell as a workout partner.

    Great Lawn

Lined up at the first cone – 5 LBCs.  Get to the second cone – 10 LBCs….  increment of 5 to the sixth cone with 30 LBCs.  But how did the PAX get from one cone to the next???… wheelbarrow your partner and flap jack at each cone so each PAX got an equal opportunity to get his hands dirty.  Total LBCs = 105.  Then moseyed to the Fountain in front of NOMA with your partner.  Planked and waited until the last team arrived.

    The Fountain

Paired up the teams to form a team of 4.  For the remainder of the day, these were the teams:

Team A – Rudy, Cowbell, El Guapo, Two Yutes

Team B – Medulla, Moist, Heisenberg, FraSac

Team C – Outbreak, Thighs, Calliope, Out for Justice

As a team – performed 200 box jumps. But only one PAX can do the rep count while the remaining 3 PAX were doing the shoulder taps with your fists (called the King Kong).  A lot of mumble chatter after this as you can see later in this back blast.  After 200 box jumps, the teams had to perform 300 dips.  Once again, only one PAX can do the dips while the remaining 3 were doing air squats (YHC heard few PAX saying this must be Kong Squats).  Once 300 dips were completed as a team, Indian ran (YHC heard a PAX calling this a Kong Run by hitting your chest with your fists while Indian Running) to the main entrance of the park.  Planked and waited until the last team arrived.  YHC believes there will be a list of new lexicons coming soon with a Kong theme.

    Main Entrance

As a team – performed 300 merkins.  Only one PAX can do the rep count while the remaining 3 PAX were standing in Al Gore position.  Once completed, the team BLIMPS through the median.  Starting at the first light post with 5 burpees.  Ran to the second light post with 10 lunges each leg.  Ran to the 3rd post with 15 imperial walkers each leg…. to the fourth post – 20 merkins…..to fifth post – 25 plank jacks…. to the sixth light post with 30 squats.  Then Indian ran to Baby Foundry.  Planked and waited until the last team arrived.

    Baby Foundry

Pull-ups exercises – one pax would do 10 pull-ups, one pax was the spotter, 2 remaining pax were performing patty cakes.  Rotate until each PAX within the group finished with 10 pull-ups.  Then rinse and repeat.  So each PAX ended with 20 pull-ups.  Combined all teams and Indian Ran back to the Great Lawn to meet back up with Tool and Da Parish to finish the day with a round of Mary.

    Round of Mary

    Flutter Kicks  x 20 IC

    Dying Cockroach x 20 IC

    Hello Dollys  x 20 IC

    American Hammers x 20 IC

The PAX moseyed back to the flag for the COT at 7:30 a.m.

    COT

Count-O-Rama 15PAX, Name-O-Rama, announcements, intentions.  One thing I love about F3 is the comradery.  The purpose of today’s workout is to stay as a group.  Leave no man behind mentality.  Work as a team.  Thank You all again for the opportunity to lead.  SYITG

  • Courage for a Murph

Three brave souls displayed intestinal fortitude by showing up to take on another Murph.
Dictionary.com’s definition of Courage: the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery.
My definition: when faced with difficulty, danger, pain, etc… is overcoming that fear, which is Courage.
Disclaimer, let’s mosey… for a Murph; 1 mile run to the Foundry, 5 pullups, 10 merkins, 15 squats x 20 sets. Some completed this and some are working on it and getting stronger. 1 mile back to the flag.
Countoff, namerama, announcements, shoutouts, and a prayer. SYITG

  • 9/11 Stomp #159

YHC arrived to the AO early, and was able to greet those that arrived to participate in the 9/11 tribute. YHC was pleased to see members of the LARC, fresh off their BRR victory run.  YHC was glad to see 2 shovel flags holding Old Glory on this day.
At 0528, YHC took a couple minutes to read some fast facts about 9/11.
17 years ago, Nineteen men hijacked four fuel-loaded US commercial airplanes. A total of 2,977 people were killed in New York City, Washington, DC and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

    The Victims:

At the World Trade Center (WTC) site in Lower Manhattan, 2,753 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were intentionally crashed into the north and south towers, or as a result of the crashes.

Of those who perished during the initial attacks and the subsequent collapses of the towers, 343 were New York City firefighters, 23 were New York City police officers and 37 were officers at the Port Authority.

At the Pentagon in Washington, 184 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building.

Near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, 40 passengers and crew members aboard United Airlines Flight 93 died when the plane crashed into a field. It is believed that the hijackers crashed the plane in that location, rather than their unknown target, after the passengers and crew attempted to retake control of the flight deck.

As of July 2018, 1,642 (or 60%) of 2,753 WTC victims’ remains have been positively identified, according to the medical examiner’s office.

    A brief disclaimer, and we’re off……

The 9/11 tribute run would consist of running through the practice track and on to the festival ground bike trail, where the pax would run half the lap and meet at the Wisner Bridge.

At the Wisner Bridge, the instructions were simple.  The pax was to run up and over a total of four times, symbolizing the 4 planes from 9/11.  The Pax were instructed to run uphill as hard as possible thinking about the uphill battle the first responders had at the WTC buildings.  While running downhill, the pax was to think about the sacrifice the heroes of flight 93 made when they crashed nose first into a field, which potentially saved hundreds of lives of the unknown target.

Once complete, the pax was instructed to complete the lap of the bike trail and return to the practice track where they were to run 2 laps, sprinting the straightaways and resting on the curves.  YHC believes the minimum run was just over 4 miles, while the faster pax probably got closer to 5 miles.

Return to the flag, and complete one set of 9 ‘mericans and a set of 11 ‘mericans to seal the deal.

    COT

Count off, name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and closed with a prayer.

Thanks for posting with me today, SYITG

YHC told a brief story of the visit he made with his 2.0 to the 9/11 memorial site in 2017.  I wasn’t sure if my daughter could handle the somber experience at 10 years of age, but she was genuinely touched by the experience.  On our way out, I told her she could get whatever she wanted at the gift shop, which usually entails many stuffed animals and silly toys, but not this time.  All she wanted was a NYFD ball cap.  Nothing more to say there…..
