  • 127(ish) Burpees + other stuff – from Heisenberg

I went to bed around 2 am on Saturday with little expectation making the Renaissance . A text message went out at 4:18 am requesting a replacement Q as Vagabond was ill. Duty called. The sky was clear and the starting temperature 41F. Feeling a bit hungover I volunteered to Q. I am not sure if this is exactly what happened, but it was something very close to this.

Warmup – Grass Grabbers IC, 5-Burpees on your own, Windmills IC, 5-Burpees on your own, Imperial Walkers IC, 5 -Burpees on your own. Then something else IC , 5 Burpees on your own.
Thing 1 – I think we did 3 burpees at each tree while lunge walking between each one for a total of 12 trees.
Thing 1.1 – stopped on wooden bridge for step ups and dips
Thing 1.2 – Mosey to Singing Oak – 10 burpees OYO
Thing 1.3 – Mosey to waterfall – 10 Burpees OYO
Thing 1.4 – Mosey to open field 11’s with Burpees and Squats
Thing 1.5 – Mosey to benches for some clean air H2 pumps
Thing 1.6 – Mosey to steps for some calf raises
    Thing 1.7 – Sunday Mornings
T-Claps to Chip and Dale for back to back posts with Chips
    COT

  • Folsom Prison Blues – from Rudy

21 PAX gathered in the gloom – 1 DR visitor from Katy TX (Happy Meals) and 2 more of the Chips brood – welcome Chip and Dale, his 9 year old identical twins! (also joining were the other 2 Chips boys – Frito Lay and Knucklehead. What a name — “Knucklehead”!!!)

6:30 strikes and after a disclaimer we were off to the rocks. Limber up with some stretches and low impact activities (Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies), then some SSH. We had to restart that after explaining to Maytag how a “cadence” works. Oh, thanks for joining late Mahatma and DAX.

Non-stop chatter from Heisenberg and Vagabond earned a quick 5 burpee penalty. Then go grab a rock.

YHC grabbed a rock that proved to be way too big. But we’ll get to that.

Deck-o-Death: start plowing through the deck with Overhead Press, Curl, Row and Squat. One variant – doing 2, 3 or 4 of any suit barely seems worth the trouble. So when those cards were flipped, we’d do 10 burpees, 20 Peter Parkers or 30 LBS instead. FracSac accused YHC of planting the deck with multiple King of Spades. WRONG. Half way through, Hawgcycle noticed that YHC was struggling – so he snuck in to replace my rock with a mere pebble that he’d been using. Shamed, but thankful…

7:00am – time to call the deck off (half way through give or take) and mosey to the Mini to gather up some bricks. Didn’t quite have enough for everyone – figure it out.

Partner up on the Great Lawn for a Dora-Ish thing. 3 rounds. PAX 1 (timer) runs back and forth with the rock while PAX 2 exercises. Flip. Rinse and Repeat. First round: PAX 2 does Brick-pees. Second round: PAX 2 does FLoyd Mayweathers (with brick). Third round: PAX 2 does Sit Ups. Rounds change on a timer, not on a count – so everyone just keeps going.

7:20 – time for the last item. 56 Years ago today, Johnny Cash recorded Folsom Prison Blues live at the Folsom Prison. So to honor the man in black, we’ll do Ring of Fire while listening to Cocaine Blues, Dirty Old Egg-Suckin’ Dog and other hits. First round with Merkins, Second round with Squats, Third round with Leg lifts.

And that got us to 7:30. Back to the flag for a COT. Naming of Chip and Dale might have been the FASTEST FNG naming I’ve ever been associated with. “I like Disney Land” said one of ’em. And that was that.

Intentions for sick and suffering F3 PAX and friends – Bongo’s wife, Mayhem’s friends the Schaff family in particular (but not alone).

YHC took us home with a reflection about Romans 7. Then off to coffee!

    QUICK FACTS ABOUT BEARS
There are around 180,000 to 200,000 brown bears worldwide. Most of them live in Alaska, Canada and Russia where the brown bear can still roam vast areas almost unpopulated by human beings and covered in forests.

The brown bear can reach a weight of between 150 and 370 kilogrammes depending on age, sex and season.
    – LBC’s – 20 IC
Despite their weight, the animals can cover short distances at speeds of up to 50 km/h.
    – Burpees – 10 OYO
Brown bears are generally loners who will only seek a mate for short periods.
    – Squats – 20 IC
At birth, bear cubs are blind and naked.
    – Burpees – 10 OYO
In the wild, these omnivores spend up to 16 hours a day looking for food, which is reflected in the saying ‘hungry as a bear’.
    – Freddie Mercury’s – 20 IC

  • Frisbee and Burpees – from Fracsac

The Mothership happened today with a visit by Goose from Thibodaux. Ballast, Heisenberg, Revit, Catfish, Bongo, Dax, Tool, Kennah Brah, Squints, and YHC brought us to 11.

    Disclaimer made, then mosey.

Warmup at the peristyle with some regular stuff and included TIE Fighters. #IYKYK
Ended warmup with a mental challenge. Count to 16 SSH in cadence than to 22 in silence. Penalty for non compliance was 10 burpees. Spoiler alert: we did 10 burpees.

Move to great lawn for variation of BLIMPS to recognize NDSU in FCS playoffs. 5 more burpees ‘cause the pax called their mascot a buffalo.
1 cone in the middle with 5 cones on the outside. Start with 5 burpees in the middle and then bear crawl to an outside cone to do next exercise. Always return to middle cone for 5 burpees.
    10 Lunges, 15 IW, 20 ‘mericans, 25 PJ, 30 squats.

Mosey for a while with a Bison run. Last man sprints to front of column and tosses frisbee to last man, continue until all get a shot.

Ring of fire in front of sculpture garden entrance. ‘Mericans, squats and then monkey humpers (just as a nun was walking by – not my best day).

Mosey and pass the frisbee across at least 4 pax. 5 burpees for the one drop.

11s at the bridge behind Cafe du Monde. Jump squats on one side and V-ups on the other side.

Some frisbee practice at Pops band stand with SSH.

Finish with some Mary then back to the flag.

    55 burpees total. #ironsharpensiron

  • Welcome Back Smooth, When in Charge Take Charge and Four Lucky Winners Treated to a Loofah Gourd – from Heisenberg

YHC was running late after gathering four large Loofah Gourd’s from my back yard and loading up my vehicle with an 80# sand medicine ball, 60# sandbag and a frisbee. I had agreed to Q at Frac’s suggestion after coffee on Saturday. I didn’t complete the signup until 6:00 am on Sunday, which created some confusion as Vagabond saw an empty signup sheet and was intent on Qing a Halloween themed workout. I arrived at 6:30 ran to the PAX who were lined up and took charge in my rightful role as the officially signed up Q. Vagabond kept the PAX entertained with a Halloween themed selection of music.

The warm up – Grass Grabbers, Abe Vigoda, Imperial Walkers, Side Straddle Hops.

The Thang – Mosey to the Foundry for some Murph training. Two pax took the sand bags while the other PAX used the Frisbee to move to the Foundry. After 5 frisbee throws the coupons would rotate. If the frisbee fell to the ground three burpees. Once at the foundry we began rounds of 5 pullups/rows, 10 Merkins, and 15 Squats. I think the winner was Vagabond with 14 rounds. Using the same mode of transportation we headed to the back of NOMA for some Mary (LBC, Flutter kicks, Freddy Mercuries). 5 Sunday mornings then back to the flag. Where minds were tricked with Loofah treats.

Welcome back Smooth who returned the day before from Spain after finishing his four year work assignment.

FYI My neighbors have an extensive trellis in their back yard and I am often the benefit of their botanical bounties that grow on my side of my fence.

Not a typical garden vegetable, luffa grows slowly and matures well into autumn. It prefers plenty of sunshine, hot summer temperatures, adequate water and well drained soil. In the right conditions, luffa vines grow vigorously, sometimes as long as 30 feet. When provided an overhead trellis, the vines’ tendrils twine and wind up and across overhead supports. They can even create a natural shade canopy.
Eye-catching, sunshine-yellow flowers appear in late summer through early fall. The flowers attract bees, ants and other pollinators. After the flowers are spent, elongated fruits form up and down the vines. They dangle here and there in random fashion.
The adage “things get better with age” applies to luffa. The fruit should fully ripen on the vine before it is harvested. As it matures, the fruit lightens in color and loses water weight. The shell hardens and starts to separate from interior fibers. Typically the vine starts to dry, as well. However, wait too long and the outer shell may over harden, which makes peeling difficult. Decay also can begin, as evidenced by dark spots, when fully ripened fruit is left too long on the vine.
Growers typically break off the mature fruit’s outer shell by slamming it on a hard surface or crushing it with a heavy utensil. If peeling is still difficult, a drench of water sometimes helps. Peeling reveals a spongy fiber within, which should be extracted, washed and squeezed to remove excess water. A bleach-water soak can lessen persistent stains. Otherwise, the fibrous “sponge” should be left in the sun to thoroughly dry, which helps curtail mold growth.

  • Casino games – from Fracsac

8 pax showed up and got stronger at the Mothership. Here’s what went down:

Mosey to the peristyle for a warmup consisting of regular stuff.

Mosey to the great lawn for some BLIMPS using the corners as the markers. Mosey and lung walks were MoT.

Partner up and play some casino games. Run to opposite corner, 5 burpees, then back to middle. Share a card number selected with non partner to keep in honest. Add cards together and team closest to 21 w/o going over wins the round and chooses an exercise. 4 rounds total.

Ring of Fire with squats and ‘mericans

Finish off with 21s doing LBCs and jump squats.
