  • Thor’s got nothing on these Pax – from Akbar

YHC has been watching Limitless with Wicket this week, who still refers to him as Thor instead of Chris Hemsworth. We’ve been watching Thor do some pretty amazing things. Thor did this workout while on a Navy ship, and looked pretty tough. But the PAX today killed it with intensification.

Conditions: 64 degrees, 100% humidity, cloudy

    Warm Up
SSH, Arm Circles, Self Love, Grass Grabbers, Imperial Walkers

    Thang

7 exercises – 10 rounds, walk it out 60s after each round, 450 reps total
    5 Squats
5 Meter Bear Crawl – 16.5 feet – 3 point line to baseline. We intensified this to half court after 3 rounds.
5 Sit Through’s – Bear crawl position, on toes, right leg across body while left hand is raised, switcheroo. 2=1. Similar to Apollo Ohno’s in Bear Crawl Position.
    10 Merkins
    10 Mountain Climbers – 2=1
5 static Lunge, 5 each leg – hands or knees touch ground
    5 Apollo Ohno’s 2=1
60s rest /walk out after each round.

    Playground

Chin ups and Crunchy Frogs. 3 rounds x 10 or max. Last round midway hold on chin ups to failure.

    • Thought this would actually be harder, but we do this stuff every day. Great work PAX

  • Y’all do a lot of Squats, huh? – from Waterpik

A duo down range from North Carolina and an FNG originally from NOLA now living in Kansas brightened the foggy, humid, gloomy streets of Old Mandeville this morning posting at the AO we call the Milestone Marsh.

Welcome FNG, Wheels Up, to the F3 brotherhood. I hope you post near your home in Kansas or at least when you come to Louisiana to visit.

    Workout:

Tabata: 15 rounds of different exercises, starting with warmup cadences, such as side straddle hops and Imperial Walkers, graduating to more difficult sets of merkins and burpees.

Lunge walk to bars for 5 sets of pull-ups with alternating sets of your choice of core exercise.

Head back to center court for mission impossible hold, 5 count each man, then second set, 3 count each man.

Head out to street for 4 corners, stopping at each block for Stone Mountains, Peter Parker’s, mountain climbers, crunchy frogs

Circle up at center court for COT.

Thanks to Half Back for praying us out.

  • Burn, Burn, Burn – from Akbar

Wicket and I arrived home from the F3 Campout around 2pm, just in time to air everything out and start washing clothes, when some friends came over for a couple of hours. All of the sudden it was 6pm and YHC remembered he had the Q. During said camping trip, yours truly literally fell into a ring of fire (for about 2 seconds). Long enough to feel the burn, burn, burn. After it was clear that everything was OK, Whacker quickly said he would change my name to Johnny Cash. Knowing that mobility may be an issue, blocks were on the menu for today – with a burn.

    Warm up
SSH, IW, Grass Grabbers, Self-Love, Butt Kicks IC x 15

    Thang
Grab the coupons starting with 10 reps moving down the assembly line until all have finished, if you finish early plank for the 6.

    1. Grave Diggers
    2. Curls
    3. Shoulder Presses
    4. Skull Crushers
    5. Brick Flyes
    6. Renegade Row Merkin (20 lb Dbell)

Jog down to the mailbox and back.

QIC made a couple of changes since the Grave Diggers and Renegade Row Merkins took so much time, and took out the run. We did 5 more rounds, increasing reps along the way for 15, 20, 25, then decreased by 5 until time was called. After each round we bear Crawled to half court, skipped the rest of the way. Then Bear Crawl half, and backpedal.

    1. Curls
    2. Shoulder Presses
    3. Skull Crushers
    4. Brick Flyes

    • Although it was in the 30’s, no dampness made it bearable.
    • Good to see Steve back out again at the Marsh.
    • The knee injury was laughable on some exercises – especially warm up – since I couldn’t lift my left leg above 5 inches.
    • Got to here about Hammers Eagles concert with his daughter, talked about camping, football, and a host of other things.

  • The Song Remains The Same – from Akbar

The plan was a block day, which we haven’t had at the Marsh in a while. Until a group text went out that Saturdays beatdown would be at the Marsh due to weather, and could someone bring blocks? Grundy put it to us and YHC was about to switch up but stayed the course. For most of the pax, a 2 block workouts back to back. This one to a BBC live soundtrack of Led Zeppelin.

Conditions: Muggy, especially painful after the great weather we’ve had.

Mumblechatter: LSU/Alabama mostly, but not a whole lot of time for mumblechatter.

PAX: Akbar, Waterpik, Hammer, Bird, Quarterpipe

Warm Up – SSH, IW, arm circles, Grass Grabbers x 20

    Round 1,2 x 20 each

  • From Grover, with Hate – from Akbar

YHC arrived to the gloom to see 2 shadows moseying down Lamarque, Waterpik and Hammer getting in a Lagniappe block after their usual run to the AO. At 70 degrees, maybe the last warmish day before the cold front moving in this week.

A quick trip to Hattiesburg yesterday had Grover and I painting a deck, when YHC realized he had the Q. Over sweet tea and pizza, Grover picked out the exercises for the beatdown with a Grinchlike evil grin.

Mumblechatter was a plenty as usual, catching up on the weekend. Pickaxe broken his wrist, Russo’s beatdown, soccer, Pik becoming a bus driver.

    Warm Up
Toe touches, SSH, Cherry Pickers, Self Love, Imperial Walkers, Grass Grabbers

Head over to the playground for 3 x 10 Pull Ups and Low Slow Squats OYO/IC

Head to Granny’s for the main thang.

Benches: Slow low Dirkins and Freak Nasties. IC x 12,8,5 for each

Grass patch: Lunge walk half way, bear crawl to the end x 3

Stairs: exercises at the bottom x 10 OYO, run up the stairs around the Pilot House, exercise at top x 10 OYO, rinse and repeat.

Back to the Marsh for more Dirkins/Freak Nasties – 10/8/5 IC with lunge walks and Bear Crawls on the court in between

Count, Name, and YHC prayed us out for Zoo’s dad, Waterpik’s father in law, Pickaxe’s wrist injury, and a chance to influence others for good this week.

  • Fit as a Fiddle – from Akbar

YHC arrived to 4 shadows on the basketball court at 5:14 today, the pax already in deep mumblechatter. Still sore from IPC week 4, we would stick to the normal Marsh route starting at the playground and heading down to Rips and the Wall. The exercises came from an article I read in Men’s Health UK called Fit As A Fiddle, but are really just the same as here in the good ole US of A.

Warm Up: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Grass Grabbers, Self-Love

Head to the playground for 3 sets of Merkins 12,8,5 IC and Inverted Rows 10 OYO

Mosey to lakefront stopping at intersections for Diamond Merkins 12, 8, 5 IC and Deep Squats with a 3s pause at bottom, IC x 15. Superman’s and Jump Squats x 15 IC

Head to Rips for 1 set of Single Leg Calf Raises x20, Irkins OYO, and regular Calf Raises x 20 IC

To the wall for Freak Nasties x 20 IC and Jump Squats. Head back to the Marsh stopping for Supermans and Jump Squats along the way.

Circle up for Mary of Merkins and Deep Squats with 3s hold IC. Plank with single leg lifts x20 IC. Nolan Ryans x 10 IC each side.

Count, Name, and Hammer prayed us out.

Announcements – IPC week 5; Wednesday night bible study

  • Return to the Marsh – from Akbar

YHC was excited to return to the Marsh after missing a couple of weeks due to travel. Looking forward to seeing everyone and the traditional catch up on the weekend mosey to the Lakefront. At 5:13, looked like I would be talking to myself this gloom. At the last minute, Pik came running up and we got to work.

    Warm Up
SSH, Self-Love, Butt kicks, Imperial Walkers, High Knees, and some other stuff

Short Mosey to the playground for 3 sets of 10: Australian Pullups and Mountain Climbers

Mosey to Rips, stopping at each intersection for Merkins and Sumo Squats, tempo style. 12 IC, 8 IC, 5 IC

11’s at Rips. Plank Jacks and Bobby Hurley’s with a run up the stairs + 20 calf raises each round. Calf raises were cut out halfway to save time and make sure we could walk the rest of the day. Quick Hello from Pik’s M on her morning walk, asking if we were trespassing and we finished up at 5:50

Mosey back to center court stopping a few times for Merkins and Sumo Squats. Mary was Heels to Heaven and LBC’s.

Count, Name, and YHC prayed us out.

Till next Gloom 👊 – Akbar

  • The Incredible Weight of Zero* – from Steve

Week 0. Meaningless. Inconsequential. Akin to a preseason Saints game with Ian Book in for all four quarters. A mere hors d’oevres for the real deal, which starts next week. A warm up, really.

I’m sure the seven pax that posted – most of them blithely unaware of what was to go down this morning (despite the leak on slack) – would agree with this. I am sure they would not have preferred to do the simple four corners mosey down to the lakefront and back that YHC had originally planned. I mean, these Greenwood guys gently ramp up the Iron Pax challenges each week anyway, right?

Ugggghhh… let’s hope not. The Fat Coe Sandwich, as this beatdown is called, is a brutal joke for a week zero beatdown. It consisted of:

    – 20x Squat Thrusters w/ coupon, 20x merkins. Rinse and repeat 5x.

    – Bear crawl 100 feet, burpee broad jump back (3x burpees, 5x jumps). Rinse and repeat 3x.

    – 20x Squat Thrusters w/ coupon, 20x merkins. Rinse and repeat 5x.

Woof. That’s rough. For a Monday morning, that’s real rough. And for a Monday morning where you ran a few miles from your home to the Marsh, well, that’s just plain mean. (As always, t-claps to Hammer and Waterpik.)

Luckily we had Bacchus, a Southshore transplant that Quarterpipe EH’d the night before, post and inspire us with his incredible athleticism. For a guy that hadn’t posted in two years (I believe?), this guy was unbelievable. I mean, if I hadn’t proctored the event myself, I probably wouldn’t have believed it.

To see him go toe to toe with Bushwacker, the man whose bear crawl is as fast as my running, was just incredible. While Bush still had the edge on the crawls, Bacchus’ broad jumps were something to behold. Eventually he just outpaced us all, by a long shot. And it wasn’t just the endurance and speed, he was slinging those cinderblocks like they were nothing. It’s like Grundy, Tank, and Cowbell somehow had an incredibly tall child together.

YHC cannot recall the times – I know Bacchus was in the 18 min range (almost 19 mins) and Bush was in the 21 min range, and everyone else was 25 mins and beyond.

Incredible job, everyone. To get out there on a Monday morning and complete this challenge – or even attempt it – is incredibly inspiring. T-claps to Akbar, who prodded me to run with this instead of something easy. And t-claps to Bacchus, of course, for his first Northshore post and a memorable one at that.

And hey, as it sounds like Week Zero could ultimately provide an edge in the case of a tie breaker, well, this month’s contest – on the Northshore at least – could conceivably already be in the books.

  • Redeaux – from Akbar

QIC arrived to 5 at the Marsh this morning, still in recovery from the St. Vincent 500. Made worse by the air going out last night and camping on the floor with Wicket and Grover. Realizing there was no plan late Sunday evening, Even though the soreness was still harsh, there’s that inward force that says go get it today. And we did.

YHC pulled the old Redeaux from a Gipper workout a few months back. The difference was no bricks. A late Sunday trip to Ace Hardware came up empty handed – so it was modified to blocks. After some chatter Jose ran up and Fletch arrived later to make 7.

Mumblechatter was high as usual: ISI, St. Vincent 500, JV’s double Q, somehow Bushwhacker always comes up regardless of where we are. Since Hammer and Jose were there – lots of movie quotes today: Over the Top was a main focus. There may be a remake of Roadhouse – which will likely fail without Patrick and Sam.

Jose had the tunes, and Cry Little Sister came on. This brings flashbacks for YHC in high school from Jamie Gertz’s cave scene – which made the rest of the workout that much better. We didn’t even get to Less Than Zero – maybe another day.

    Warm Up
SSH, toe touches, self-love, arm circles, imperial walkers, high knees, butt kicks

    Thang
5 on blocks for a Tabata of 30s on and 15s rest, full body blocks. 2 men did LBC’s and we rotated each round. Warm up run before down to the stop sign and back, and again after legs/back/bi’s.

    Legs

    Shoulders

    Chest/Tri
Skull crushers, chest press, merkin, chest press w/ inward block, diamond merkin, block merkin, overhead extensions

Circle at center court for 4 exercises x10 IC. Chest press, curls, shoulder press, goblet squat.

  • Feel the Burn – from Akbar

QIC arrived in the gloom to see JV planting a flag with Jose 10k by his side, already in deep mumblechatter. The plan for today was a no run burn, which made it even harder due to the fact that Akbars family baked in the sun all day yesterday. After a grueling week of hard beatdowns, YHC was ready to take a walk around the Marsh for the workout, maybe even search for Garfield’s group and join them. But there is something down inside all of us that says, let’s get it. So we did – but without running.

Warm up: SSH, arm circles, self-love, high knees, but kicks, down dog.
