  • Leg-Free Bad Boy Day – from Rudy

Looking for ideas, YHC was stunned to realize that April 30th was the 60th birthday of the original Bad Boy: Isaiah Thomas of the Detroit Pistons. This definitely made me feel old. How can he be 60 already? Surely I cannot really be that old? But alas, things are what they are. But to remember the 60 year old “Bad Boys”, YHC decided on a 6-6-6 workout.

5:30: Disclaimer, then mosey to the rock pile to find a friend. YHC has been dealing with hip pain, so this was going to very very heavy on upper body. Choose wisely. Head to the field.

Warm Up: SSH, Plank-o-rama, some stretching.

The Thang: 6 Exercises. 6 Sets. 6 Reps. Starting at Tree 0 – Rifle carry your rock to Tree 1 for the first set. Then on to Tree 2. Tree 3. Back to Tree 2. Tree 1. Finish up at Tree 0 with your 6th set. Plank. No really, none of this lolly-gagging and catching your breath when you finish. Plank. Active recovery. There will be time for real recovery when the 6 arrives.

The exercises. All are Compound Movements (Thinking of you Milkman…)

    * Rock Burpees.
    * Curls: Up, Down, Straight arm Up, Down
    * Bench Press: lie down. Over your head. Straight up, down to chest, back up, back to overhead.
    * Elf on a Shelf
    * Row to Deadlift
    * Big Boy Situps

That took much longer than anticipated, so we had time to return the rocks (rifle carry back to the pit) and head back to the flag.

Thank you all for the opportunity to lead. Thanks to Boo Boo for the reminder the night before that I had the Q! And Happy Birthday to Bad Boy Thomas (# 11), as well as Happy Birthday to the great state of Louisiana.

  • Lakeview vs. Pontiff II

Three months ago the men of Lakeview, unannounced and uninvited, strolled into Pontiff on the day of the Wally Run and threw down the challenge to the men of Pontiff for an Ultimate Frisbee battle. Pontiff never stood a chance as Lakeview mopped the floor with a commanding win.

Thus began a new tradition, the Lakeview vs. Pontiff Ultimate Frisbee War. Lakeview may have won battle one, but the war was far from over.

28 men came out for the competition on a cold December morning with 26 men playing for three months of bragging rights. Pontiff playing in Miyagi Do whites and Lakeview playing in Cobra Kai blacks. 13 vs. 13 Ultimate Frisbee – no rematch has been anticipated so highly since Rocky and Creed.

The Pax ran 2 laps around Pontiff Park (next match there will be some sort of penalty for the team with the fewest number of competitors to complete the 2 laps). Then we split for a standard game of F3 Ultimate. 5 merkins for each turnover. 10 merkins for giving up a touchdown.

Team Pontiff came out with bang like Daniel kicking Johnny in the face by scoring the first touchdown in moments as YHC caught one in the end zone and even completed a second pass to appease the doubts of team Lakeview, and Pontiff was off to the races.

Thanks to the quality play of Scantron and Two Yutes scoring strikes down the field – team Pontiff won in a blow out – 8-3.

The war is now tied 1-1. The next match comes in March.

  • Friday the 13th – The View

What better way to jump back into the swing of things than by signing up to Q.
4 Pax posted at The Star View on Friday the 13th to pay tribute to Jason, the Star of the iconic 80’s movie.
Disclaimer given, then mosey to the levee for:

    NMM

    • Apparently Jason from Friday the 13th likes burpees
    • Jack Webb’s then ATM’s back to back was regretted immediately…
    • We had as many flags as Pax!

Thanks for posting with me today! I’m blessed to be part of such an amazing group that supports and helps one another!

  • IS IT NOLAN ROBINSON OR NOLAN RICHARDSON???

Door Dash was double booked as Q for The View and Rock City, which was not discovered until Sunday night. YHC agreed to cover the Rock City Q so the levee dwellers wouldn’t get short changed.  I can share the love with the levee dwellers next week when YHC is Q at The View.  YHC reflected on a recent beat down from the Northshore that came straight from the Exicon.  13 men braved the 72 degree morning with high humidity.

After the standard disclaimer, the PAX moseyed to the nearby football field for the following:

    Warmup

All in cadence: SSH x31, GG x15, MC x20, AC (10 forward/10 backwards), and Chinooks

    Thang

After the warmup, the PAX moseyed to the rock pile to select a rock and was instructed to return to the nearside goal line for further instruction.  War Eagle confused the back line of the end zone with the goal line and was essentially lost in the end zone.  Totally understandable given he is a Bama fan. Bama is clearly confused as to where the goal line, end line, and side lines of the end zone are, as evidenced by Bama’s 2013 loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl which left them out of contention for a third consecutive BCS Championship appearance.  I digress.  You can get the highlight here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLO2SmM9gPw

    Round 1

YHC had the PAX count off by ones and twos just to make sure they could count to two since the Alabama native got lost in the end zone. The PAX was then instructed to pair up to complete 150 curls followed by 300 Big Boi Sit-ups.  PAX 1 began the exercises at the goal line while PAX 2 ran backwards to the 50 yard line, completed one Bobby Hurley, and sprinted back to the goal line and switched with PAX 1.  A DORA-style format.  A round of Mary was completed by the PAX who finished first, while waiting for everyone to complete.

    Round 2

Same format as above completing 150 Merkins and 300 Chest Presses.

With four minutes to spare, the PAX returned their rocks and moseyed to the flag.  Approximately half of the groups completed Round 2, and the other half came close.  We will strive for full completion by all next time.

COT: YHC noted he modified the “Nolan Robinson” workout form the Exicon. Hawg, who apparently has the Exicon and Lexicon memorized, was perplexed.  After much thought and debate, he realized it was the “Nola Richardson;” however, since YHC modified the workout, he believes the name should also be modified and stands by “Nolan Robinson” as true and correct!

Announcements- the H8! is Thursday, but according to mumblechatter, Kuch would prefer to do yoga.

Intentions- gratitude, the recent senseless killing of a two year old, healing for the sick and injured, and protection for a local Army National Guard Unit whose one-year deployment began this week. Fast Tax’s son and a close friend of YHC are members of said Unit. It was an honor to lead such HIM, and I am grateful for the opportunity to step up and assist in a time of need.

  • Respect, Respect

Today’s Q goal was to get a good full body workout and to keep moving. 13 PAX showed up for the beat down.

At 0530 the warm up began.

Smurf jacks, Peter Parker’s, Froggies, Parker Peter’s, Don Quixote, Arms circles

The Thang: 45 secs per exercise, 10 second rest between each.

Prisoner squat, Jack knife, Hand release pushups, Carolina dry docks, Wife pleasers, Jump Squats, American hammer, Dive bomber pushups, Alternating plank toe touch,

After completing these workouts for two round we moseyed to the wall for some “line of fire.” First, at the wall, we did Rocky Balboa for a little extra warm up. For the “line of fire” the PAX did a wall sit, while each Pax down the line did 10 donkey kicks. Next round was wall sits, donkey kicks, then they held the high plank. Next, they held the high plank and did shoulder taps. Lastly they held the high plank and did Peter Parker’s. With 3 minutes remaining more Rocky Balboa were due.

We closed with good spirits and a COT.

  • Wally Run Heavyweights

4 Pax posted at the Wally Run on a very humid Thursday in the gloom. At 0530 YHC asked who was going to write the BB, and the silence hung in the air, held up by the humidity. So, YHC gave a disclaimer, and said run!

    We all ran. The end.

COT with announcements, intentions, and closed with a prayer to the Sky Q.

    NMM

    • YHC is feeling a lot better, it’s amazing how much better one can breathe without blood clots in the lungs. YHC ran 4 miles. Not bad, but not good enough. Time to get back to where things were before PE, and then progress beyond.
    • Still no lights at Pontiff.
    • After the COT, the four of us talked about how we all became bigger men over the last few months, which is slowing us down. We want to be HIM’s but have a little less FUPA to ease our strain on the Big Ball. With that, Mahatma challenged us to meet back at the Wally Run the Thursday before Labor Day 2021, and report back on how much less of a man each of us have become. Challenge accepted!

  • Keeping up with the Joneses

There was a spectacular lightening show being delivered from north of the lake that YHC enjoyed on the bike ride to the AO. A clear sky south of the lake welcomed 6 Pax to the AO known as The View, but can you guess which chatting icon is attached to Fridays? (Hint: There was a Shooting Star that graced the sky during the warm up) I’ll just leave that there…..

0530, time for the disclaimer, then a short mosey for the warm up:

    • SSH IC x 31
    • Grass Grabber IC x 15
    • Abe Vigodas IC x 10
    • Bat Wings IC
      • Fwd AC, Bwd AC, OH Clap, Seal Clap, Moroccan Night Club
    • Hillbillies IC x 15

Mosey to the levee for the first set of pain. Starting at bike path, bear crawl IC toward levee, going up and over with ‘mericans called out by the Q. That looked a little something like this:

    • Bearl crawl IC followed by 10 ‘mericans on flat ground
    • Bear crawl up levee IC, stopping midway for Incline x 10
    • Bear crawl IC to top of levee, regular x 10
    • Bear crawl down levee other side stopping midway for Decline x 10
    • Bear crawl to base of levee for regularx x 10
    • Repeat on return trip over levee

YHC set up some cones about 30 yards apart for second set of pain.

    Lunge walk/Monkey Humpers

    • Lunge walk IC to midway followed by Monkey Humpers IC x 10
    • Lunge walk IC to other end followed by Monkey Humpers IC x 10
    • Repeat on return trip to starting point

Repeat with Peter Parker crawl/Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10

Burpee Broad Jump to one end and back.

For the third set of pain, YHC did a ring of fire:

    • Hold the Al Gore while sending jump squat around the ring x 10 (next Pax starts at 5). Send around twice.
    • Repeat in plank position with ‘mericans.

For the fourth set of Pain, The Suck…Embrace it! 3 minutes of the following continuously:

    • SSH x 7
    • ‘mericans x 7
    • Bobby Hurley’s x 7

One minute recovery, followed by another 3 minutes.

    Finish off with

    • LBC’s IC x 30
    • Big Boi Sit Ups (WW2) IC x 10
    • Crunchy Frog IC x 10

COT to close it out at 0615.

    NMM

YHC planned this beat down with a low impact (no running ) theme in mind. Not to brag, but this was a real smokefest. Ok, I’m pretty proud of it.

YHC doesn’t do many original things, but after reading “Freed to Lead” I found out that there’s nothing wrong with that. F3 is known for taking other ideas and building upon them. But I have to give credit where credit is due. Hawg has made the Bat Wings a regular thing, but the first time I saw it was when Kimchi brought it some time ago. I’m pretty guilty of dropping my arms during the evolution when War Eagle and Hawg bring it, but I didn’t when I Q’d it. There’s just something inspirational about delivering pain to others.

The bear crawl and ‘mericans up and down the levee was about as original as it gets for me. But I’m sure it’s been done before.

I like to set up cones, it makes life easier.

The Suck is something I remember Tool delivered. After 6 minutes of that, the Pax is pretty smoked. That’s a great one to keep in your back pocket.

I was saving some Shock and Awe, among other things, for the Mothership, but I found out Jingle Vader had signed up too, and he really wanted it. The issues with the Q sheet aren’t that big of a deal. Catfish made sure a Q is lined up, and that’s all that really matters. I have no doubt a serious beat down will be delivered by JV. I’ll save mine for another day.

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of F3.
