  • We’re Conveniently Located Near Alabama – from Glitter Balls

5th or July, 5th week of GB Q’ing The Foundry, coincidence? Follow the numbers, trust no one.

Another conspiracy that the astute Foundry regular may notice, we’re being invaded by F3 Birmingham. Last week we had Upchuck, this week we had Bullseye. Who will we see from Alabama next week? Stay tuned.

Started with some SSH, Mountain Climbers, Windmills, Hillbillies and a mosey towards the Children’s Museum with some bear crawls and crab walks for good measure.

In the outdoor AC of the Museum we did 50 LBCs, 25 Merkins, 50 Squats. Mosey to the Foundry for some dora. Run to the track and back for timer with Pull-ups/Inverted Rows and Step Ups, 3 times.

Mosey towards NOMA, then back around to Roosevelt Mall with stops for Richard Simmons’s (reaching plank-jacks), V-Ups, Karaoke, Dips, Incline Merkins, Decline Merkins, Box Jumps, Dry Docks, Wife Pleasers, Slow Peter Parker’s, Dips and a run back to the flag for COT.

  • An Uninteresting Stat – from Glitter Balls

So, we’re on week 4 of GB’s Foundry monopoly, and we’re loving it.

Actually, Goose had the Q on the sheet but I think that was a misclick because Goose was nowhere to be found and none of us are sure who Goose is.

Anywho, it was humid as all get out and we had Upchuck from Birmingham with us, so let’s go see some of the park.

Mosey towards NOMA that ended at the bridge by the sculpture garden for 5 burpees OYO, then a quick warmup at the sculpture garden and contemplation of the opening piece:

20 SSH, 10 Windmills, 20 IWs, 10 Count of Self Love.

Mosey to the Great Lawn. Some stretch from one side to the other of Lunges, Bear Crawls, Crab Walks, Lunges, 5 Burpees OYO, a 10 count and run it back.

Mosey to the little Foundry for Dips, Squats, Decline Merkins and Pull-ups, then a quick hop to the Children’s Museum for some core work:

LBCs, Levels, Right Leg V-Ups, American Hammer, Left Leg V-Ups, Box Cutters, Flutter Kicks.

    Mosey back to the flag.

  • The One Where Everybody Has Fun – from Glitter Balls

It wasn’t hot but the humidity was awful, so we brave 5 set out to make the most of it. I promised/threatened I’d continue to Q The Foundry until someone else did so, being a man of my word, we began.

Warmup was a mosey to the NOMA bacon/chicken statue. We debated the artist’s intent behind the piece as we did a quick 25 SHH, 10 count arm circles (forward/reverse), and some def love. I think we landed on it looking like a chicken, made out of bacon.

First leg, bear crawl around said chicken-bacon statue, bunny hop up and down NOMA steps ending in 20 Merkins, repeat the process for 50 squats and 50 dips.

Mosey towards the Foundry, stopping for 10 Superman + Lat Pulls, mosey, 10 reaching plank-jacks (Jesus Juice then names these Richard Simmons’ – it is decided), mosey, 5 high-knee burpees, mosey to Foundry.

At the Foundry, Modified Murph (25/50/75)

Mosey back to flag with stops for 20 Right Leg V-Ups, 20 Left Leg V-Ups, 25 wife pleasers, 25 LBCs, Levels, 10 Doctor W’s, 5 High Knee Burpees, sprint to flag.

  • Just Making It Up As I Go – from Glitter Balls

Victory loves preparation – there was little preparation but perhaps victory only sort of likes preparation as a friend in this case of The Foundry.

    COT.

General consensus was that the High Knee Burpess were bad and not fun, 0/10. Might run them back if Tool calls me “Tim” again though.

Congrats on our FNG getting his name, Flexolite©!

  • The 5Q Foundry – from Fracsac

Doomsday was upon us, or at least that was what meteorologists across the south were claiming. In defiance of these alarms, 5 HIMs posted at the Foundry expecting gale force winds and horizontal rain.
Weather conditions were 72 degrees and muggy with a 5 mph southerly breeze.

No Q signed up and there was tension in the humid air. Pop Tart cut the tension like a butter knife goes through a strawberry pastry with a disclaimer and instructions to head to the Foundry. Once at the Foundry Glitterballs calls a Sudden Change and instructs the Pax to do a Half Murph, then asks what it consists of. Clearly this was meant to intimidate the other 4.
Tool then grabs the Q for some Core work, then one ups the intimidation factor by making us call out merkins in a ring of fire followed by 10 minutes of clockwise pax choice core work. The tension was getting too thick, so YHC had to intervene! Move to the grassy area for the following:
Prisoner genuflect followed by 1 burpee
Prisoner genuflect followed by 2 burpees
    Continue up to 5 burpees.

Scooter couldn’t keep himself contained any longer and gave the order to head back to the flag completing 10 derkins at each bench along the way. Thank all that is good we ran out of time after 5 benches….

-The meteorological folks likely kept a lot of Pax in the fartsack.
-Johnny Lawrence from Karate Kid and Cobra Kai were discussion points during the half Murph. Then it was brought up he was in One of the Guys, another 80s movie where he played a bully. He always plays a bully.
-Montana is a place Tool wants to see, mainly because he watched Yellowstone. I’ve been there but I’ve never watched Yellowstone. But we both like Johnny Lawrence. Don’t judge….

  • Triple Threat at The Foundry – from Fracsac

Eight Veteran Pax showed up at the Foundry with the intent to lead. YHC attempted to inform the other seven of the Q sheet and how easy it is to use. It did not go well, and went something like this:

YHC: Use the Q Sheet guys, it’s not hard.
    Tool: Shut Up!
Kuch: Yeah, LVCC Rules! Who dares challenge me?
Da Parish: I think this calls for a cage match!
    LVCC: Oh, it’s on!
    YHC: What the….????

And so an epic battle to take the Q ensued, which seemed completely unnecessary. Glitterballs was the first to go down in what can only be described as a cloud of dust which coincidently looked like glitter. Saban called out that he would no doubt be in the championship round, but he suffered two losses, one coming from Glitterballs before he fell. Abacus optimistically calculated how he could win, but distracted himself by attempting to decipher his odds and went down like a bead on a metal rod when turned vertical. High Rise rose up to the challenge, then went back down, because I suspect that’s how he’s built. Da Parish was seen stretching well outside the designed protection area. Not really sure why he would want to be there, but hey, you do you right? That left YHC, Kuch and Tool standing. After taking a severe whooping from both, YHC yelled “No Mas!” which is weird, because I don’t speak Spanish and don’t really even know what it means but it worked and they backed off leaving me in third place. Kuch got a little dirty and pulled out the Claw which surprisingly took down Tool. I mean, the guy has a hardware store, how does he lose to a claw? Anyways, that’s how we ended up with the three 15 minute Q share. Kuch the winner, followed by Tool, then YHC third.

Kuch took the pax around the track and to the open area for a warm up, then started with 8 count body builders just to remind the pax he was large and in charge. He did some other warmup stuff followed by 5 burpees OYO. People’s run to the Foundry for a couple minutes of Mary, then passed the Q to Tool.

Tool assigned stations: There were 4 stations of various exercises such as pull ups, step ups, decline shoulder taps and burpees. Timer included lunges and squat jumps. There were 4 rounds, so it was changed up by Tool as he desired to show his dominance. Tool then informed YHC it was my turn, and he emphasized not to screw it up.

10 Burpees OYO, as that seemed to be what the pax wanted. This was just to give myself some time to figure something out. I then did what I often do in these situations. I asked myself, “What would Triple Shift do?” So I gave the LVCC the gift of sore legs with a mosey to the open field for the genuflect lunge routine. 1 full genuflect followed by 2 lunges, then 2 genuflect and 4 lunges, etc. Continue up to 10 genuflect and 20 lunges. Triple Shift bailed me out again! Mosey back to the flag for COT.

    NMM

The Foundry is alive and well, so if you’re looking for a fun and challenging Wednesday beat down, take a look at the Foundry,

It was cold again this morning, 46 degrees with a cold wind making it feel like 40 degrees. It’s nice to have hurricane season behind us though, so I guess we should welcome it. At least it was dry.

The Q sheet does need some love. Remember, we are an organization of leaders, not an organization with leaders. If you don’t step up and lead, you will slowly become a consumer. Don’t be a consumer, be a leader. You can Co Q with another pax if you would like, or take the whole thing. Sometimes pax need a little push, so feel free to give that gentle nudge, respectfully, to get others to step up.

  • Battle Frisburpee at the Foundry – from Fast Tax

It was the usual hot, humid, and sloppy August morning at the Founrdy, but at least it wasn’t raining. As the clock hit 5:30 there were 5 of us and, after the usual disclaimer, we moseyed a ways and began our warmup. We were soon joined by two more, much to YHC’s relief, because Battle Frisburpee can’t be played with five. Thus YHC was spared having to call an audible.

    Warmups included some Pontiff favorites:
    Hairy Rockettes
    Mountain Man Poopers
    Chinooks
    SSH
    And Frac’s favorite – Wife-Pleasing Crab Merkins

Sufficiently warmed we headed to the track for the first exercise, the Quarter Pounder. Admittedly, YHC wanted to guinea pig this one at Foundry before trying it at Pontiff.
With PAX lined up on the track along the edge of the field, we sprinted to the 25 yards and did 25 merkins, ran backwards to Start, sprinted to the 50 and did 50 squats, Backwards to Start Line, sprinted to the 75 and did 75 Mountain Climbers, Ran backwards to the goal line and sprinted to the hundred and did 100 SSH. Plank and wait for six.

The next event was Captain Thor, an ab exercise performed OYO, start with 1 BBS followed immediately by 4 American Hammers, increasing by 1:4 each rep, 10 reps. For those who like to avoid math, the total effort was 55 BBS and 220 Amer Hammers.

Having dispensed with the pleasantries, it was game-on, BATTLE FRISBURPEE time.

Team 1: Fast Tax, Fracsac, Backed Up
Team 2: Mall Cop, Mama’s Pride, Saban

After a quick recitation of the rules for those PAX who were new to the game, we commenced. Given that it was 3-on-3, strategy was everything. Team 1 clearly owned the 1st quarter, 2-0. Halfway through, Team 2 had battled back. The rest of the game belonged to Team 2, winning with a final score of 5-3.

It was agreed by all that a larger game of Lakeview vs Metairie was in order.

With game over we headed to COT for name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and prayer.
Thanks for the fellowship and the chance to lead at The Foundry!

  • Fun and Frac at the Foundry – from Fracsac

8 Pax posted to the Foundry knowing what was coming, and they still showed! A brief disclaimer followed by a mosey to the track.
Warmup was mostly normal stuff, including MNC where dancing was highly encouraged.
There were no SSH for good reason. They came with 1st COP:
Shock and Awe with SSH x 5 per round, 10 burpees descending downward. Since we never do 1 burpee, it was 10 at the bottom of the round for 64 total. Cap it off with 6 more to get to 70.
Partner up with Catch Me if U Can on the Track. Pax 1 starts running backwards while Pax 2 does 3 burpees and then sprints to catch Pax 1. Complete 4 rounds for 12 more burpees.
Set cones in a circle in the field and split up for two teams of 4 pax. We played a game of keep away with the football where 5 complete passes gets a point, two hand touch style. Fun times!
Finish off burpees to get to 100.

Mosey back to flag for COT

    NMM

-100 burpees sort of sucks, while 100 burpees with a fun game rocks!
-We get up early to be challenged, and we want to have fun. Adult male recess is something you won’t find at a gym. Keep challenging each other, support one another, and fun! Laughing and burpees? It’s a thing!

Thanks for allowing me to be part of F3, and know that you are all loved.
