William Wallace, Braveheart and a Yippee Bag – from Rudy

August 23rd, 1305. William Wallace (better known as “Mel Gibson”) executed. 720 years later, we will remember him with an re-enactment of the Scots vs English. Spoiler alert: the results are roughly the same.

Weather: Hot, Humid, August morning.
PAX: several late stragglers (Triple, Hawg, Hokie, Vagabond) brought the final tally to 18, including 1 FNG (Goldberg)

The Thing:

🏴‍☠️ Braveheart Workout

The Peristyle for a brief warmup, including penalty burpees because Frac wouldn’t stop talking.

Separate the PAX into Scots (good guys) and English (bad guys) then mosey to thelawn,.

Part 1 –The Battlefield

Scene 1: Battle Lines (Stirling/Falkirk)

Teams separate to opposite sides of the lawn. Hold a Squat position.
On “CHARGE!” → sprint and meet in middle. Drop for 5 burpees, backpedal to start.

Scene 2: Spear Trap

Team 1 in the middle, hold a plank. Team 2 Charge to the middle while Team 1 screams “HOLD”. Then explode into a squat jump. Flapjack sides. Repeat.

Scene 3: Mooning the English

Meet in the middle. Team 1 holds Al Gore. Team 2 reverses and does 20 Monkey Humpers in cadence. Flapjack sides. Repeat.

Part 2 –Weapons of War

Head to the Rock Pile, and everyone grab a rock.

Scene 4: Freedom Fighters

Overhead Press , Curl, Row. x20/x16/x12/x8/x4

Scene 5: The Execution

Partner up. PAX1: Plank while PAX2 balances rock on PAX1 back. Then PAX2 rifle carry to parking log and return. Flapjack and repeat twice.

Return to the lawn for some closing Mary and a Hawg-led Q School for DaVinci.

Throughout, the Yippee Bag was in heavy use. Lots of exercises called out. A poorly executed game of “Capture the Cone”. A Staring Contest, and much to YHC’s delight, an enthusiastic rendition of Happy Birthday.
