Eight PAX. Eight tires. One Grande Turtlebox. A handful of orange cones. And a gloom so dark we could barely see our fellow brothers.
Special thanks to Fracsac for supplying the rubber. The Goodyear blimp even made an appearance overhead. Apparently, word had gotten out.
WOR: Good Mornings, Imperial Walkers, Grass Grabbers, Low Slow Squats holding tires, and the newly christened Frac Tire: PP, shoulder tap, PP, all while planking on a tire. Frac’s legacy continues to grow (finally), whether he wants it to or not.
Thang 1: Farmer Tires
Partner up. One PAX farmer-carried two tires 30 yards and back while the other knocked out Plank Jacks, BBSUs, and Squats. Everyone completed each exercise twice. Simple instructions, though Architect apparently needed a flowchart and a superintendent to coordinate the sequence.
Thang 2: Tread Lightly
Two teams of four. Tire Indian Run for 100 yards. Last man carries the tire to the front, drops it, and the new last man repeats. Squints even tired er tried to throw his tire at the opposing team.
Round 1: Team A wins by a tread.
Round 2: Team B wins by a tread.
A tie. Naturally, everyone claimed victory.
Thang 3: Rubber Meets Road
Flip the tire 10 yards, perform 10 burpees. Flip another 10, perform 9. Continue to midfield and back, descending the burpee ladder. Somewhere along the way, the tires got heavier, the burpees got uglier, and the mumblechatter got quieter.
Thang 4: Tire B.O.M.B.S.
Flip 10 yards, 5 Burpees. Roll 10 yards, 10 Overhead Tire Presses. Flip, 15 Merkins on the tire. Roll, 20 BBSUs. Flip, 25 Squats. Turn around and repeat.
Architect, having finally deciphered the earlier instructions, absolutely crushed this one.
Frac offered some wisdom: “BOMBS are tough, but Tire BOMBS are even tougher.” Thanks, Frac. Deep. Very deep.
Thang 5: Ring of Tire Fire
Circle up. Hold Al Gore while gripping the tire. Each PAX takes a turn performing 10 overhead presses while everyone else holds.
Thang 6: Mission Impossitire (that one is a stretch)
Low, low plank on the tire. One PAX performs a merkin while everyone else holds. Five trips around the circle. It was delightful.
Mary: Tire held overhead throughout. Because apparently putting the damn thing down was no longer an option on this dark morning.
As we headed back to the flag, I grabbed Mr. Rogers vest for him. And that it was… just a vest. Perhaps he will install some weight next time.
COT: With tires, of course. Announcements included the Children’s Museum returning, Convergence 10/17, and the groundbreaking discovery that tires are fun. Prayer was delivered with one PAX standing inside a tire. Not sure if that made the prayer more powerful, but it certainly made it more entertaining.
Eight men showed up in the darkness, pushed some rubber around, and left a little better than they arrived. Great morning trying something different with a great group of HIMs. Shout out to Goodyear and Turtlebox for the sponsorships.
And seriously, man, it is dark in the gloom.
“See” you in the gloom.
