  • A Dirty Dozen at Okwata

The Pax enjoyed another cool, albeit windy, morning at the Okwata AO.  Before long, the gloom will be filled with thick and humid air, so 12 Pax posted to take advantage of it.  YHC pulled up to the AO and was surprised to see our F3 Flag, which could only mean one thing:  Reluctant Yankee was in attendance.  Tagging along with our regional Nantan was none other than OBT, credited as co-founder of F3, which makes him awesome.  Bogey had indicated he may show up this morning, but YHC told him he had to.  That worked?  Cool!

Several other Pax slowly assembled as the clock approached 0530.  At 0530, YHC took a headcount and found we had an odd number, which was somewhat disappointing, but all would be good.  Brief Disclaimer, and we were off….

Mosey around the mardi gras fountain, carioca left, then right, then continue our mosey to the grassy area in front of the fountain.

    Warmup
Just as we started the warmup, the 12th Pax arrived, making us a dirty dozen! YHC could hardly contain the excitement!
    SSH IC x 31
Imperial Sq Walkers IC x 10
    Hillbilly’s IC x 15
    Mountain Climbers IC x 10
    Peter Parker IC x 10

With our dirty dozen, it was time to mosey to the levee. YHC was so excited, he forgot about double shots at the Barre with Jack Webb…but that’s ok, the Pax made up for that with the following:

Burp Back Mountain (There was much rejoicing)
    Partner Up
Pax 1 does Burpees at the base of the levee
Pax 2 does quadraphilia up the levee and run back down (always facing Okwata) 3 times, then swap with Pax 1
Continue until 100 burpees cumulative are completed. Once complete, both Pax continue with quadraphilia until all Pax complete the burpees

Mosey to the House of Pain (HOP) for stations:
    Partner up
    Station 1 – Merkins AMRAP
    Station 2 – Squats AMRAP
Station 3 – Step Ups AMRAP
    Station 4 – Dips AMRAP
Station 5 – Pull ups AMRAP
Station 6 – Bear Crawl up the levee, 5 burpees, run back down (timer)

The Pax was killing it, leaving plenty more time for more pain! Mosey to corner of Lakeshore and Canal for, you guessed it, 4 Corners!
Corner 1 – 10 Burpees OYO – Why? Why not!
Run up and over levee to Amethyst St and Canal
    Corner 2 – Monkey Humpers IC x 20
    Run across Canal
Corner 3 – Mekins IC x 30 (up down count)
Run back across the levee to Lakeshore
    Corner 4 – Squats IC x 20 (4 count, so that’s like 40)
Run back to corner 1 for….wait for it…..Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10 (and there was much rejoicing)

Mosey back to the flag for..

    Mary
    Flutter Kicks IC x 20
Tin Snips IC x 20 (OBT pointed out that these were egg beaters, but YHC likes to still use Tin Snips as a credit to HVAC)
    LBC’s IC x 30
    Penguins IC x 20

That took us to 0615, which means…

    COT
Countoff, Name-o-rama, announcements, intentions, and closed with a prayer.

    NMM
YHC indicated OBT was awesome as a co-founder of F3 because F3 is a gift that YHC wishes more men could experience. I know I’m preaching to the choir, but continue to EH like Triple Shift. T-Claps to Triple Shift for getting F3 NOLA aired by Ed Daniels on WGNO last night!  The Monkey Humpers at Corner 2 brought up some conversation about the camera crew again and the disappointment of not being captured on film…..

Thanks for posting with me today!  Until next time…

  • CelebrHATE on the small screen with Cowbell

With Ed Daniels being drawn into the gloom by Triple Shift on this 610 Stomp sort of day, YHC saw the opportunity to make Cowbell famous, sending him off into his glorious thirties with a beatdown dedicated to celebrHATE this once in a lifetime occasion.  Surely this would lead to monuments being erected, with the possibility of memorials following his departure from this world.

Spoiler alert:  Cowbell fartsacked.  Oh well, YHC tried……

Back to the Ed Daniels bit.  YHC arrived at 0515 to find Triple Shift promoting the F3 organization to the sports reporter and his cameraman.  T-Claps to Triple Shift for spreading the word.  This will certainly help to maintain his crown as king of the EH.  Not that anyone was getting close to knocking him off that hill…….

YHC made a quick mosey to the track to drop off some cones, more to come on that later.  Upon arriving back at the shovel flag that YHC planted, two more were planted next to it.  YHC almost gave the F3 flag a hug, as it hasn’t been seen in weeks.  As long as it has been cared for and used effectively, all is well.

F3 Nation had a plethora of good names ready to throw at Ed Daniels, but apparently he did not show up for the beat down.  At least 19 men showed up in force to promote the power and awesomeness of F3.  With the cameraman hanging out in the area, the clock hit 0530, and so it begins:

Disclaimer, and probably one too short judging by the scolding looks of Rudy.  But hey, “Not a professional trainer, so modify as needed” was said…..

Tuesday is normally a run day, hence the 610 Stomp name.  Due to circumstances, we did a sudden change and did a quick mosey to the track.

Circle up on the matting inside the track.  YHC still intended to celebrHATE Cowbell’s coming of age, but had to get something out the way first.

    Warmup

    SSH IC x 31

With that out of the way, it was time to celebrHATE!

    COP

    Hillbilly’s IC x 20
Alternating Shoulder Taps IC x 20
    Tempo Merkins IC x 10
    Escalator

The Escalator is 5 exercises, composed of:
    10 Burpees OYO
20 Merkins IC (Up Down cadence)
30 Smurf Jacks (a tribute to Cowbell)
40 Monkey Humpers IC – did YHC mention the cameraman was a female? Not absolutely certain, but this may have been when the film crew exited.
    50 Squats IC

Indian Run twice around the track, or 1/2 mile.

One final tribute to Cowbell – Smurf Jacks IC x 30

Mosey to the inside grassy area of the track where the cones were set up for some suicides. Starting at first row of cones, sprint to second set, sprint back and do 5 merkins. Continue this to each set of cones, set up like a basketball court, a tribute to the end of March Madness. Not only did the track crew forget to turn the lights on, but YHC may have left out one row of cones. The start line should have been one set with 4 sets beyond, which caused some major confusion. So much confusion that YHC decided to do it again with burpees.

Mosey to the first corner of the track for 4 Corners:

Corner #1 – Catalina Wine Mixers IC x 10 (there was much rejoicing) – Sprint to corner #2
Corner #2 – Bobby Hurleys x 10 OYO (tribute to end of March Madness) – Sprint to corner #3
Corner #3 – Merkins IC x 10 (there’s the 4 count the Pax was longing for) – Sprint to Corner #4
Corner #4 – Iron Mikes IC x 10 (lunge jumps)

Mosey back to the matted area for Ring of Fire #1
All Pax hold the plank position. The first Pax does 5 merkins, then resumes plank. The ring of fire goes around to all the Pax.
    Ring of Fire #2
Same as before, just replace with 5 Burpees. That’s a lot of planking!

    Mary

    Flutter Kicks IC x 30
    Hello Dolly IC x 25
    American Hammer IC x 20

Times up, mosey back to the flag(s)

    COT

    Count off and Name-O-Rama
We had one FNG, and no, it was not a reporter.  Welcome Phoenix!  Some claimed the name was too good, but they’re just jealous.  They all wanted Fracsac too, but it was specially reserved for YHC!

Announcements, intentions, and closed with a prayer.

Thanks for posting with me today and for putting up with my inability to design a proper court.

Remember: F3 is an organization of leaders, not an organization with leaders. Each Pax is expected to be a leader in other groups outside F3, as well as within F3. To lead in F3 is easy, just sign up and take the Q here

    NMM

If you didn’t notice, Bogey was especially happy this morning. He was the winner of the bracket pool, and will be exempt from any burpees this Saturday post Mothership. Here’s the Burpee count:
    Reluctant Yankee: 8
    YHC: 24
    El Guapo: 30
    Hokey Pokey: 32
    Seaman: 33
    Rudy: 35
    DaParish: 43
    Milkman: 56

Come out Saturday and see the Burpee debt paid in full!

  • 610 Stomp: Through the Woods and up the Mountain

6 F3 vets gathered around an actual flag on this perfectly gloomy morning.

    DISCLAIMER

YHC was feeling like a throwback was due to mix things up a bit.

    The route:
Go under 610 and take a left, past the dog park and cross harrison ave. (~1.5 miles)
enter the woods of greater New Orleans, follow the trail (and Hawg) til we reach the highest land elevation in the city, just behind the rocky mountains in total feet. (~.5 miles)

Once at the top, conveniently, there was a perfect ledge for #ISI. 2 minutes of Rocky Balboa’s.

Head back to the flag (~2 miles) with 5 minutes to spare.

    30 X LBC
    20 X American Hammer
20 X Crunchy Frog (RIP Shorty)
    20 X Penguin
    10 X J-Lo (RIP Amnesty)

    Finished with COT.

    Thanks for letting me lead!

  • I got a fever……

T-Claps to the south shore and north shore pax who completed the Tough Mudder. The mumble chatter is that no obstacles were skipped and major injuries were avoided.  The mothership at the Lakefront was 5 strong including Rev Socks and Hog Sickle from the south shore. Honorable mention the Hog Sickle’s dad who took the ride to the north sore. He got in over 5000 steps during the beatdown!!!

    Warm-Up

20 SSHs IC, 20 Windmills IC, 20 Toe Touches IC, 20 IWs IC, 20 Butt Kicks IC, 20 High Knees IC, 10 forward arm rolls IC (baseball) – rinse and repeat in reverse, 10 forward arm rolls IC (basketball) – rinse and repeat in reverse, 20 Overhead Claps IC

    COWBELL DISCLAIMER

Those of you who made it to Ei’s Crazy Ivan on the North Shore saw the debut of the cowbell. It made it to the beatdown this past Saturday. Every time you hear the cowbell ring, all paxs drop and do ten burpees. After you ring the cowbell, you bestow the cowbell to another pac and they ring it at their discretion. The goal was to complete 100 burpees by the end of the beatdown. Mission Accomplished!!!!!

    Mosey…

    Indian Bear Crawl

All paxs line up in a single file line in the planc position. The pac at the front of the line starts doing merkins IC while the pac at the end of the line bear crawls to the front. Rinse and repeat until you get to pre-designated destination.

    Indian Lunge Walk

Once you get to the pre-designated destination from the Indian Bear Crawl, all paxs turn around and stay in the single file line. Pac at the front of the line starst doing squats IC while the pac at the end of the line lunge walks to the front. Rinse and repeat until you get to the original starting point.

    Mosey…..

    Heavy Bag Pull and Carry

All paxs line up facing “The Shaft” holding the Al Gore. First pac, sits on ground and pulls a 75 foot rope that is attachd to a 45lb heavy bag. Once the heavy bag gets to pac, pac picks it up and runs with it  it back to the starting position next to “The Shaft.”  Drop it and assume the planc position until all pacs are finished.

    Mary

25 LBCs IC, 25 Puttins IC, 25 Leg Lifts IC, 25 Flutter Kicks IC

    Mosey to Cazebo

Freak Nasty Step Up Super Set

10 Freak Nasties IC, 10 left leg step ups IC, 10 right leg step ups IC- Rinse and repeat three times adding 5 reps to each exercise every set

On the final mosey to the flag, we were left with 10 burpees to get reach our goal. I thought that Rev Socks was going to sabotage the mission, but he did not dissapoint. Turbo did not dissapoint either by changing his last 10 burpees into slurpees by doing them in a large puddle left by the torrential rain from Friday. Way to embrace the suck Turbo.

COT – Prayed out by THE Manny – Coffetteria afterwards

  • The 40, Part 4

Its Okwata Time. That means its Levee time. 40 times.

11 PAX gathered around the shovel flag this morning in the dark gloom. Alas, no glorious sunrise over the waters of Okwata. The PAX will have to wait several weeks for the morning light to appear during the workouts again. Until then, just gloomy gloom. The PAX welcomed the visitor – Schottenheimer from Cleveland. Thanks for coming out to join us!

At 5:30, YHC pronounced the disclaimer and so we began.

First, Mosey 10 yards to the flag (from all the way across the sidewalk). Circle up for warmup, sprinkled with mumble chatter.

    • SSH x25
    • Abe Vigoda x10
    • IW x25

Then off to the base of the Levee.

By now, the PAX know the drill.  10 exercises.  4 Sets of each exercise.  10 reps per set.  Back and forth over the Levee for each set.  That equals (do the math….) 40 trips over the levee.

    1. Cross Fit Merkins: Oh, the grass is cold.  And wet.
    2. Box Cutters: Out-Up-In-Down half the time, Up-Out-Down-In the other half.  Shorty finally realizes there’s a difference.
    3. 4-Count Lunges: Triple Shift appears to have mixed signals and went for the 20 reps of 4 count lunges.
    4. Derkins: a new wrinkle – stop half-way down the levee for the exercise.  Slip and Slide trying to stop
    5. Dying Cockroach: Frac rightly points out that Roaches crawl, forcing a clarification from YHC that we were doing the Dying variety.  On our backs.
    6. Bobby Hurley: OK, YHC certainly felt this when running up the hill.
    7. Irkins: stop half-way up the levee for the exercise.
    8. Monkey Humpers: I thought the Bobby Hurley burned….
    9. Hello Dolly: I think that just maybe I saw Mahatma break a sweat.
    10. Burpees: The crowning glory, as Tool was lamenting the lack of burpees in the workout.

Finished up at 6:08.  We are getting better at this.  That meant we had time for more!  Quadrophelia!  Up to the top of the levee, so we can run forwards-down and backwards-up (i.e., always look to the lake) for 4 minutes.

Back to the flag with a minute to spare.  Time for LBC x40.

Finish up with Count-off and Name-o-rama.  Intentions, then close with prayers.  Psalm 40, a song of praise.

    I waited patiently for the Lord;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
        out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.

    Thanks for letting me lead!

  • The Q needs a flashlight and directions

The only thing worse than posting at 5:30am to workout is posting at 5:30am on the Monday after Daylight Savings Time. I should have checked on that before asking Hawg to let me Q for the first time. Hawg did make my morning by arriving with the flag just before we started to get going. I think this was the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen the elusive F3 flag.

Disclaimer and then mosey to the rocks.

The cadence was shaky but we did:

    – SSH x 20

    – Peter Parkers x 30

    – Imperial Walkers x 20

    – Propellers x 22 (11 each direction)

    -Hillbillies x 20

We grabbed our rocks for some classic rock city exercises with more of my shaky cadence:

    Shoulder Press x 15

Curls for the Girls x 15

    Rows x 20

    Low, Slow Squats x 30

We moseyed over to the playground equipment for a 4 part rotation exercise. I needed a little help along the way to locate both the swings and later to the hill. It turns out that working out in the dark doesn’t help me know how Pontiff Park is laid out.

    Our rotation workout:

Elf on the Shelf with a rock for a 10 count while we rotated between elf, underdogs, dips, and mercins.

After playing around under the swings, we took our rocks to the hill for elevens. It was 10 bench presses with the rock on one side of the hill and 1 burpee on the other to start.

    We ended with Mary:

    American Hammer x 15

    Penguin x 20

    Dying Cockroach x 15

    LBC x 15

We dropped off our rocks and moseyed back to the flag. I got us there one minute early and was threatened to put shame upon my family name for finishing at 6:14, so we did Freddie Mercury for one minute.

Count off, namerama, announcements, and a prayer.

    I led. I survived. I am now a man.

  • Rudy’s back

    LBC’sX35

CO, NameO, Announc., Intentions, Prayer…few stayed to complete the day’s AMRAP challenge.

  • RED Friday – Captain Dan Whitten

This RED Friday Workout was in honor of Captain Dan Whitten.

Army Captain Dan Whitten, 28, of Grimes, Iowa, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, died February 2, 2010, when enemy forces in Zabul, Afghanistan, attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. Whitten is survived by his wife, Starr Whitten, his mother, Jill Whitten, his father, Dan Whitten, and his sister, U.S. Army Captain Sarah Whitten.

    Warm-up:’

    Imperial Walkers x 10

Then YHC turned it over to Abacus to complete the warm-up:

    SSH x 20; Windmills x 20; Low Slow Squats x 20; Arm Circles x 15 forward x 15 back

    The Thang:

22 Kettlebell swings; 22 box jumps; 400 meter run; 22 burpees; 22 Squat Thrusters.

Do as many rounds of the above as possible in 30 minutes.

    Moleskin

    • Great work today.  Everyone finished at least 3 rounds.  Mahatma was a beast, completing four rounds in honor of a friend with very serious health issues.
    • Kobains for the box jumps on the wall.  Not the safest exercise.
    • Great job by Abacus leading the workout. Come support him next Friday for his VQ.

  • Double Dir-TAYY Mac Deuce

Pre-Thang:  Weather was awesome 70-ish with the temp, a little humid but nothing crazy.  Ground was wet from Friday rains – perfect for something on your six.

My first workout ever with OBT was a Dirty MacDeuce.  It makes me happy every time.  Happy in an I hate you but I love you kind of way.  So on past Saturdays I have often done a regular old Dirty MacDeuce.  I have done other things — Rounds with Tyson, 11’s, the Route 66, the baseball diamond, deck of death, etc but I have always loved the total body workout given by a MacDeuce.  So I wanted to one up it – and I Q’d a Double Dirty Mac.

The Thang:  Mosey to the big Quad.  Here we did a SSH x 20, Merks x 20, Imperial Walker Squats x 20, Low SLow Squats x 20.

LOOOONG Mosey to the track.  Through some puddles.  Tried to go around then at some point it was too much so we just went through the muck.

Once at the track we did some LBCs just to rest from the long Mosey.  Then we went straight into the DMac.

Lap with backwards run at the end — Circle we did:  Staggered Merks, Roaches, Reg Squats x 12

Lap with kerioke at the end —  Circle we did:  Staggered Merks – Right, Freddie Merks, Lunge x 12

Lap with butt kicks at the end — Circle we did:  Diamond Merks, Iron Cross, Lunges to the side x 12

Lap with high skips at the end — Circle we did:  Plank Walk, Pickle Pounders, Lunge backwards x 12

Started to worry about time so the 2nd mac deuce we had to double up all exercises.

First lap Indian Run.  Second lap on your own.

We did x 24 Mat Jumps (had to make up 4 at the end), Russian Twists, and Shoulder Taps

2 full laps – at your own pace

We did x 24 Hip Dips, x 24 Nolan Ryans, x 24 Low Country Crab

We did it!  With 5 min to the buzzer and mumblechatter holding my feet to the fire about the “time email”  we walked to the street and ran to the flag.

We arrived at exactly 730am.  Good job men.   We logged 3.6 miles.

Rudy arrived from his LONG run just in time for the Circle

Immediately after I couldn’t stay for coffee – I had to hustle to the 504k race.

COT:  For Splash.  For friends who are sick.

    Thanks for letting me lead.

  • The Other Mountain

Fun time in the gloom this morning with a great turnout.  Obviously inspired by Hawg’s presence, the PAX amped up the mumblechatter to near-Metry levels and kept it going throughout the workout.  After a quick disclaimer, we took the traditional stroll up and down the Avenue and set up in front of the Tulane sign for warmup (all IC):

    • SSHx25
    • IWx25
    • Merksx15
    • LSSx25

Short mosey to the Loyola music building for BLIMPS, starting with 10 burpees and increasing in increment of 5.   Hard run from there down Calhoun to Freret.  At mini-WPM, alternate sprint/jog up the parking deck, stopping at each level for a different exercise OYO until Q says halt (about 30-35 reps each):

    • Level 2: Mountain Climbers
    • Level 3: Plank Jacks
    • Level 4: Peter Parkers

At the top of MWPM, we partnered up for some core work.  Partner 1 ran down then up the stairs, while Partner 2 did the prescribed exercise, then flapjack:

    • V-Up
    • LBC
    • Russian Twists
    • Box cutters
    • LBT

Short on time, we hurried back to the flag for the count, name-o-rama, and prayer.

    -Mulligan
