Happy Birthday Vagabond! – from Hawgcycle

Nineteen pax posted to celebrate Vagabond’s Birthday, a rare act of leadership from YHC, the return of an OG, and a visit from F3 Valley Forge.

Faithfulness:
I gave the disclaimer (although I don’t think Hops was listening) and explained to the pax that we would be celebrating Vagabond this morning. Vagabond is a pillar in the F3 NOLA community. My first shoutout was for his Faithfulness. He is faithful in many ways. He is a faithful husband and father, he is open about his faith in Christ, and you can always count on him. And since he is also old, I set an Old Faithful timer to go off every 5 minutes and 7 seconds. We were already well into countdown by the time I finished explaining everything.

Warm-up

Consistency:
In true Big Easy fashion our warm-up circle grew by 4 or 5 late comers. As we started the warm-up I spoke of Vagabond’s consistency. Just as you can count on an F3 warm-up to start each workout, you can count on Vagabond to be at Pontiff and the Mothership. His consistency has kept both AOs alive at times.

SSH x 15, IW x 15, Peter Parker x 15, Shoulder Taps x 15, Lunges x 15, Tempo Merkins x 15, Low Slow Squats x 15, Bird Dog x 15

Middle School Humor
Somewhere in the middle of warm-ups, Old Faithful went off and we performed the prescribed 5 burpees and 7 wife-pleasers. The wife-pleasers are a shout out to Vagabond’s sophisticated middle school boy humor. At one point after Old Faithful sounded, an innocent bystander excitedly shouted out “Burpees!” to show her appreciation of our workout. She then watched in horror at what came next.

Generosity
Vagabond opens his house to us and our families on a regular basis. We’ve gone there for red beans and Monday Night Football, Crypto Talks, Name that Tune, etc. He has generously donated his time and money to F3 causes. I suspect he has quietly given more than we know. So We headed to the rock pile where everyone was instructed to select a generous rock. We did four sets of the following:

Bench press x 15, Curls x 15, Rows x 14, Low Slow Squats x 13.

After each set, the pax was instructed to find someone and show their generosity by switching rocks with them.

I then started walking back across the parking lot to give everyone a chance to catch their breath. SFx shamed me for walking and then took off in a dead sprint to the Great Lawn, although he had no idea if that is where we were headed or not. This is the same SFx that constantly whines about running. The same SFx, who earlier in the week asked me if there would be much running at the Mothership. The same SFx that is the reason I took the Q, so that I could assure him there would be minimal running in hopes that he would attend.

Flatulence
Vagabond is one of the gassiest pax. In his honor we ran an F3 version of Gassers that SFx introduced me too many moons ago. Pair up. Pax 1 sprints half way around the Great Lawn while Pax 2 walks across the Great Lawn to meet him on the other side. Once they meet, Pax 2 continues the Sprint around the Great Lawn while Pax 1 walks across to meet him on the other side. This continued for about 3 laps.

Leadership
Vagabond serves as the default Q at Pontiff. The Q sheet would be embarrassing to show Hops. It’s often blank and Vagabond takes it when no one else will. To celebrate his leadership and that funky looking Garanimals outfit he occasionally wears, we divided ourselves into 4 groups. Each group nominated a leader. We played follow the leader as the leader chose different animal exercises: Bear Crawls, Crawl Bears, Jameis Winstons, Winston Jameis’s, Kong, Frogger, Duck Walk, Spider Man, Inch worm, bunny hops, Kangaroos, Cobra, Cranes, etc.

6 MOM
We closed out in honor of Vagabond’s better half. We did LBC x 15, Flutter Kicks x 10, Superman to Boat x 5, Dead bug x 15

Great to have our F3 brother Hops down range from Philly. He is one of the OGs of the New Orleans plant at F3 Valley Forge. Also great to have the man that planted the flag in Valley Forge, SFx, down for the day. Happy Birthday Vagabond, thankful for everything you give to F3 New Orleans.
